I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:T400, Loose Hinges?

Hi,

The Hardware Maintenance Manual should help with that.  The instructions on removing the LCD show how to access the hinge screws, I think.

Don't let this go too long.  Once the hinge mounts get loose, something else can break.

How can I fix loose hinges on this machine?

Solved!

A:T420s - loose hinges

Im my opinion the best thing to do is to replace them, you can find them for cheap in eBay or Amazon. Replacement is not very difficult if you follow the HMM ;-)

I have read some threads were users were applying some superglue to particular areas, but it's tricky since I remember you had to avod glueing tiny screws so I personally would rather avoid doing this.

Hey all,  I have loose hinges and want to replace them on my t61. I red the instructions on that link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T61-and-prior-T-series/How-to-replace-loose-broken-hinges-on-t... Just to make sure - In order to take off the lcd front bezel - it's only 5 screws and just pull it up gently all around? Is that glued or latches?  No need to get the back cover of the lcd too? Cause on HMM it seems I have to take back cover too.  Thanks in advance

Replace them. Here's a page with the manuals to aid in disassembly.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&lang=en&cc=us&jumpid=hpr_R1002_USEN&y=4&x=6

Near the bottom of the page is the complete maintenance manual. The instructions are pretty complete for most anything you need to do to the machine. You can also buy the parts from HP.

Dell India support  say it is due to usage. Please note laptop is meant to be use and not to keep on showcase. If your hinges broken with in 6 month, do you think next time the same user will ever look for a Dell laptop.
Either improve your quality in India or replaced your poor quality spare. Or else simple go away from India.

I am using a Gateway 600 Series Laptop(600YGR). I have had this laptop for about 2-3 years. The hinges connecting the lid/screen and the bottom half started to become loose a few months ago and have become progressively worse. Now I pretty much have to had the screen at an upright 90 degree angle in order for it to stay put. If I push it back or forward even a little bit it falls all the way back or all the way forward, respectively. How do I got about fixing this? Can I fix what's there or do I have to replace something? Is the solution for this problem specific to each model/make of laptop or is there a universal solution? Any help is appreciated.

Can hp send me some screws? My product is out of warranty

A:The screws on my laptop fell out and the hinges are loose as...

We need your exact model number. Screw kits are available on eBay for maybe $6-10. However, screws don't just fall out. They get stripped because something else is going on, likely hinge issues. The hinges freeze up and cause stress on the screws so that they get stripped out of the holes which means if you try to put a new screw in the same hole it will fall out, too.

The screen panel hinges on a Dell Latitude C610 I have are EXTREMELY loose. Everything else about the system is perfectly fine, it was my main computer for about ten months. But if the screen is not propped against a wall or something, it will fall open or fall shut every single time. Balance the screen in a perfectly vertical position, sure, but if someone walks by or closes a door it will fall open or fall shut. Really annoying. People have actually told me to use duct tape or super glue. Is there an easy, step-by-step guide to (ideally) fixing, or (if not) replacing these hinges? Thanks in advance

Hi, Over the past while I've noticed the lid of my laptop becoming quite loose. The hinges now have no control whatsoever and opening the laptop causes it to bend the enclosure upwards as well as cracking the plastic base. The laptop is still very much within warranty and has sustained no falling damage - literally just the day to day process of opening and closing it. As it seems to be an existing hardware fault for the model, am hoping for some assistance in having my warranty cover a repair.

I recently bought a HP spectre x360 15'' touch screen laptop from best buy. Within 2 months of my usage , while opening the laptop last week, the screen got cracked from the centre . This was totally unexpected. Just by opening the laptop , the screen has a crack in it. I have found several people with the same issue. Also , the hinges of the laptop are way too loose. The screen looks a bit slant . I have found this issue common with alot of people. This is not the problem. I have been to bestbuy , given my laptop for repair. They are charging me $514 for it. This is extremely expensive , given that the laptop cost is around 1000$. The screen repair costs me $514 which is way out of my budget. I dont think this is done and fair. I am ready to spend a bit of money for repairing it even while considering the poor design of this laptop which i realize now , after using it for a while. I cant spend half the laptops cost on only my screens repair. Please look into the matter and give some positive feedback. This has been dragged way too much and its urgent as per my situation.

I bought my wife an HP Envy M6 notebook in March 2015. She has the exact same problem that other people have had with their notebook hinges. In her case, both have broken somehow.  Her notebook casing separates from the screen  when opening/closing, and it is hard to keep open unless you push the screen 110 - 120 degrees or so. When the notebook is closed, you can see a big gap between the screen and the casing. At this time, her screen has not suffered, but I experienced something similar myself with an older HP notebook and my screen turned light blue. I would like to avoid hers to get to that point. The warranty on her notebook has expired already, but I would like do something, so that she can continue using her laptop for another couple of years if possible. I think HP should have a plan (repair/replace) for this specific issue, since it seems to be a very common one among HP notebook owners.  This is the 3rd case of a hinge issue with HP notebooks in our household. I have kept getting them because I like their looks and versatility, but I am getting to the point where I might have to switch to a different manufacturer with stronger built machines.  Would appreciate any help... Thank you!

My HP Envy 15 is less than two years old and has never been dropped or handled roughly, but the hinges started popping open from normal use a few months after the warranty expired.  Seeing as I am  a college student and unable to afford expensive repairs I had hoped it wouldn't get worse if treated delicately and have avoided moving the hinges as much as possible.  Unfortunately several months later, the left hinge has now completely detached from the casing, the metal inside has popped out and the hinge cover has fallen off the computer entirely leaving the wires inside the hinge exposed and the left side of the screen unattached to the base of the laptop. The right hinge is seperating as well and is splitting the side of the computer open.  It can't be closed without breaking the rest of the way and it won't stay open without being supported.  As it is, the computer is almost completely unusable and my only options are to get it repaired or replace it because I need a computer for college. It appears from this forum that this damage is the result of a very common manufacturing defect, so I'd like to know what my options are for resolving this issue.  Does anyone know what can be done about this? Thanks!

The left hinge completely broke a year or two ago and I've been dealing with it for over a year by pinching both sides of the base of the laptop where the hinge is located, and it was an annoyance, but a minor one. I figured it was just my computer and so I didn't think I could do anything about it, but today my other hinge broke, so I did some research and apparently this is a big problem for some HP computers. Recently, we noticed it wasn't closing properly.  The hinge mounts on both sides are broken. The pressed in metal, threaded mounts pulled out of the plastic base. Some of the plastic mounts are broken. An internet search revealed the problem is systemic with this laptop so we figure its a quality issue. What do we do next? The laptop is just about unusable. FYI I also sent this info into support. Thanks Fred Gasior

Inform you that you should not buy Toshiba branded laptops, exactly the L models, like the Toshiba L50-B-1XP. Since they have a factory defect, and is that the hinges of the screen are broken and do not let the screen close at all .. and the most serious is that although the laptop in warranty, from the technical service say it is a damage Physical, WHEN even less than a year ago if they fixed this defect (said by the service technician toshiba in Mallorca).

Apparently a common problem. I like HP and this has been my choice for years, I already had 3. I am disappointed now.

Within the past month or two,  I started noticing an issue with the right hinge when trying to close the laptop.   About two weeks ago, the same issue started with the left hinge also.   It has now become a challenge trying to close the laptop.  It soulds like plastic is cracking/popping, and gets into a bind.   This is my home laptop, and has been very well cared for.  It has never been dropped or abused.   Any suggestions?
