I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is an article from the newsgroups that tell you how to adjuct the message count for XP.
"Doug Knox MS-MVP" <[email protected] wrote in message
news: [email protected]..
To reset the message count, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Look in the subkey for each e-mail account. The value you're looking is MessageCount

Double clickthe MessageCount entry and set the value to 0.

To disable this option completely visit my web site,
www. dougknox. com and go to the Win XP Fixes section. Follow the link for Disable/Enable Unread Message Count

I've got Windows XP. On outlook express, when it first opens, the main window has gone, which says how many unread email messages you have and things. It's gone in the last week or so, but I've scanned my pc for spyware, viruses, malware, adware, everything! Is there anyway to get it back, because I liked it better than opening on to a blank white screen, or my inbox. Thanks.

I added three new e-mail address to my outlook express program. My original address is the default address for start up. Program will not authorize, so I cannot recieve e-mail or use outlook.
The e-mail program starts by it self when the computer boots up. Pop up keeps asking for user name and password, which are on pop up. I hit OK it goes away for a few seconds then returns.
E-mails are on Main Identy page, yet there is not properties for Main Identy.
I have been working on this for hours with no success.

Do you mean that instead of just having three accounts in one identity ; you decided to create seperate identities for each account?
In this case, yes it will ask you to provide a username and password if you set it up that way.

For some reason in Outlook Express I have an identity called "Main Identity" that appears that wasn't listed before as one of my identitiies. When I try to delete the identity in Manage Identities, it will not let me delete it. When I click the remove button it brings up the message saying "Are you sure you want to remove this idenity?..." and then I click the delete button to go ahead and do it....however, NOTHING happens when I do this. If I try to switch to that identity it brings up an error message saying "Identity Switch Canceled." This identity has never been set up for use for anything and it won't let me change the properties to it or anything. Nothing happens when I click on properties for this identity under manage identites. All I want to do is to GET RID of this identity. It is used for nothing and I can't get rid of it. And by the way, my default identity (the identity used when starting Outlook Express is NOT this identity). Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this "Main Identitiy"

When sending attachments in Outlook Express 6, attachments end up as both an attachment and in the main body.

This is regardless if 'Tools' 'Options' 'Send' settings for mail setting format is set to HTML or Plain Text and when set to HTML, 'Send Pictures With Messages' is unchecked.

Is there any way to toggle OFF a setting that will result in the attachment not being included in the main text body?

I'm using Outlook Express ver 6.00 on Windows 98. I have it configured to take me into my Intray upon startup. Once in there, I have a preview pane on the left hand side showing of all my folders.

Today, I happen to click on the "Outlook Express" root folder at the top of the preview pane. On the right hand side, it displayed what appears to be a bogus "Outlook Info" page -- it showed how many unread e-mails are supposedly in my intray (wrong amount -- it always says 2), as well as a bunch of search-related links all pointing to findwhatever.com, a "tip of the day", and an advertisement for hot, wild dates (adsmgr.com).

Is this how Outlook Express' main start-up folder works (basically useless), or is something else going on?

Hi jimdell73

Are you referring to the Outlook Express program itself or to a message window?

If messages, drag the edges of the message to fit the screen. Once you close the message the next message you open should open to the same size.

Otherwise, a bit more information is needed. You can also post a screenshot if you think that would help.

Hello All,

I am trying to help a friend clean up thier computer.

There is a small window on the Outlook Express page. This is below the message window. The computer at one time had AT&T Worldnet Service, it is still on the screen. I have searched the register and remove all references to AT&T Worldnet, but still have this window.

Can you tell me how to remove this eyesore?

This is a Sharp brand notebook computer model pc 9020. Win95, 1 G HD about half free. Outlook Express Ver. 5.50.4807.1700.

I have removed all "junk" that I can find. Took the branding off of IE and OE, can not find any thing about the small window using find in the register or hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

In Win7x64, Google email in the form of HTML source becomes mangled in Office Outlook (which I've substituted for incompatible Outlook Express).

To replace Outlook Express, I first tried Thunderbird, and then Eudora. Only Office Outlook, which is part of MS Office, had all the functions and options of Outlook Express that I like, plus formatting and organization features.

I could use Web Mail with Gmail or ATT-Yahoo, to which I have access, but I prefer getting my mail to my PC and keeping it there.

Hi,

I am new to bleepingcomputer. It's excellent!

My question is this:

At work I have upgraded my computer recently. The new PC runs windows XP home SP2 with Microsoft Office 2003 (plus upgrades). As a result, the email client is Microsoft Outlook.

I have my emails from my old machine saved as .eml files on an external harddrive. This was using Outlook Express. My problem is that XP calls .eml files 'Outlook Express Email Message', and consequently opens them in Outlook Express, not outlook.

So I tried right-click>Open with... and browsed for outlook. All this achieves is creating a new blank outlook email with the old .eml as an attachment. Not the idea!

Is there anyway I can convert the files to open in outlook, not outlook express, so they can be replied to, forwarded, etc.

Or can I configure Outlook better?
Thanks

Simon

A:Upgrading From Outlook Express To Outlook - Problem

Hi Simon, welcome to BC.
You can use either apps import\export function but the messages must reside in the program itself.
Copy your OE e-mail messages from the external drive back in to OE's inbox.
Open Outlook 2003 and click File>Import and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses.
Choose Outlook Express and make sure "Import Mail" is the only option checked below.

Hi,
The equivalent to outlook express is live mail not outlook.com,
Once you download and install a new default email program you'll be able to move the express information to live mail,
Then if you want to connect live mail to a on line service like outlook.com you can,
Live mail is one of many features included in Windows essentials 2012,
Import messages into Windows Mail from Outlook Express
Download a email program,

You can also use a service like Thunder bird,

I am an old guy. I tend to like Outlook Express. Some years ago I finally got it customized in terms of text size and layout the way I like. I am used to it. But, it seems to have some kind of fatal flaw - that every year or so MS OUtlook Express's InBox gets corrupted and makes either or both sending or receiving email no longer possible. It is as if after working properly for a year or two the InBox file gets to a certain size and goes haywire. Is there any remedy for this? Dear Forum:

I use Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP 3. My main browser mainpage is MSN. I have others like Google, and Yahoo. I prefer MSN as the main browser, however. For the last three days or so, when I log in to get on line, I've seen the top part of the MSN page-the part that includes the headlines and address bar (so I can navigate to other pages), has simply been erased or something. Only the bottom parts of the headline lettering appears. Other people appear to be having this problem as well. I don't have any bugs in the system as far as I can tell. What's going on? Is MSN being targeted? The Microsoft main site would probably charge me an arm and a leg for a fix that they should be providing their customers for free. The Google and Norton toolbars are there, but they have never blocked out the MSN main pages.

Any suggestions? Steve

Ok, this is really weird. I've looked high and low to see how I could fix this but haven't figured it out. I have had IE 8.0 installed since it came out. I can access every webpage on the planet except the yahoo main page. If I type "mail.yahoo.com" or "sports.yahoo.com" I can see those pages fine. But acessing plain "yahoo.com" just gives me a blank page and the bar at the bottom just says "done". It doesn't say "cannot display page", the page is just completely white. I've checked all my settings and can't figure it out. I had a bout with a virus about a year ago and thanks to several great people on this board, I completely clensed my system and have had no problems since. I had no issues accessing the main yahoo page with other versions of IE.

I have firefox installed and can acess yahoo there just fine, but I use both browsers for various tasks and this one is just plain bugging me. Anybody have any thoughts?

A:Cannot access Main Yahoo page with IE8

Well, in my experience with it, IE8 is a little finicky with the syntax of what you type into the address bar.Click this link and see what you get: http://www.yahoo.com/Also, try typing just yahoo, then hitting Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard (Save 15 Keystrokes ? Hi,
can anyone give me a step by step description, how i can export my Emails and the Address book from Outlook Express 6 to another Computer which runs also Outlook Express 6?
I tried already to export the Address book but it only allows me to export it as a *.csv-File and after i put the data on my usb stick and try to import it on my new computer by File - Import - Addressbook, the program keeps asking me for a *.wab-File? (btw: i can only use the: "Text File (Comma Separated Values))" Option, when exporting the address book.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

Has anyone a really step-by-step description how to do this??

Thank you very much in advance for your help

A:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

Hi Everyone I am new here and having problems with my OE. I receive lots of attachments from friends and have encountered this problem. This file does not have a progrma associated with it for performing this task. Create an Association in the Folder Options in the Control Panel. I am not really good at doing things with my computer but have lots of attachments that I really wanted to look at and had to just delete them because I did not know how to fix the problem. The OE is 6.0. Sure would appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me.

Firstly, you have to have a program installed that can open
that file type.eg .ppt opens with Microsoft Power Point
.doc - Microsoft Word There`s a list of extensions HERE
and explanation HERE

Save the attachment to the desktop and right click on it.
Select "open with" then "choose program".
Then select the program that can open that file extension,
and check the box that says "always open with this program".

To add a new extension or change the action associated with it
you can also go to Control Panel/FolderOptions/File Types and click
on "New" to add an extension or "Change"to change the program associated with it.
Hope that`s clear.

BE VERY CAREFUL OPENING ATTACHMENTS-think viruses, spyware.

I was just on my computer randomly watching anime, when all of a sudden, I get a pop up message from outlook express contact info/message, can't remember what it said, a couple minutes later, I got another outlook express contact info/message, and in the to, sender, pretty much all of it, it said can't stop a true blue hacker, on all the lines, can anyone tell me if this is spyware or what? Thank you very much. I have not had this problem, until just today, I am also at the moment running norton internet security full system scan, and ad-aware anti malware: anti spyware+ antirootkit full system scan as well. so far all I have picked up is a tracking cookie via norton. Also nothing has been picked up thus far, and I don't ever use this e-mail program at all.

I am running winxp professional with all the current updates on an Athlon 3200 system with 1gb of ram. Usually when I start IE it would come right up. Also when I would click on a link in Outlook Express IE would quickly respond and open the correct page.

Last week this started happening:

When I click on the IE icon it takes maybe 30 seconds for it to open. Also, when I click on a link in Outlook Express, a link in an email, the screen loses some of the graphics and text and at first I thought the computer froze as the mouse is non-responsive but if I wait, it usually takes maybe 15 - 20 seconds or so, the link will open a page and Outlook Express will go back to normal.

I have not installed any new programs but my computer is set to update windows automatically.

All of the other programs respond normally. This problem seems only to affect IE and links accessed through Outlook Express. Outlook Express, by itself, seems to operate normally.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Ok, this could be a number of things. I could be spyware, a bad driver etc. Do you have anti-spyware programs and an anti-virus?

Hello there. I'm trying to access email using outlook express using AOL as the internet connection. The pop and smtp servers are set up correctly along with the username and password, problem is when I try to receive or send mail, I don't seem to be able to connect to either server. Now I've tried on another computer and it works fine, so that rules out any problems with the servers. I also disabled the firewall on the computer, but that didn't solve it either. I'd rekon that there it must be something that AOL is doing, external firewall or something like that? Anyone with any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I recently manually moved my email files to a different folder. When I opened Outlook Express all of my emails were GONE. I then moved them back and it did not bring them back. The files are in my documents, I have tried to import them back into Outlook Express and it does not work, it only goes back to 2 months ago. I need to know how to recover my emails back into Outlook Express.

Thank you

Just fitted an ADSL (1/2 broadband) system and a firewall to what was a perfectly usable computer! Now, when I click on a link in an email to take me to an internet site (hyperlink?) I get an error message that reads... "PROGRAM ERROR: WOOBrowser.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the page. An error log has been created"
I don't have to restart the page, just cancel the warning. However, clicking on a hyperlink in Outlook express used to take me to an internet page, now it takes me nowhere. I can copy the hyperlink (or shortcut) and paste this in a web page but that's just inconvenient. Has anyone got any ideas as to what is causing this?
Thanks, tiffo999

I saw a closed session on this-but no solution.
I have to use Outlook Express with Facebook, because Mozella-Foxfire does not work right.
Last week I deleted my cookies-AND HISTORY----
And after that I have to type in facebook- go to search page that shows facebook-sign in and sign in each and every time. I check leave me signed in- but it has not worked since. In other words 4 steps for what used to be 1.

I am sure I need to re-set something-but what? I have not changed anything- same password, same everything, except no cookies and no history.

How do I get this back in History?? Thanks

Outlook Express is an email program, you wouldn't be using that to access Facebook. Do you mean Internet Explorer? What version of Windows are you using?

I'm sorry, I know this is not the right forum but I decided this was the closest one relating to my problem.

I have a slight problem with Outlook Express, I'm not getting certain e-mails that come from certain sites, I do receive e-mails just some of them from certain sites do not come through. How do you change the filter in Outlook Express, I was searching through the help Contends and Index and was unable to find anything.

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2 (Everything is up to date.)

For anti-spyware ete I'm using Windows Live and Windows Defender.

Thanks.

The question I have is: who is your email through? Is it yahoo, hotmail, or some other provider.

It sounds like there is a spam filter on the account and is blocking the emails from coming through

When I go to switch identities in Outlook, it asks for the identity password. Problem is the user never had top put a password in before. I reinstalled 6.0 Express and when I open it back up for that identity, it is prompting for the identity password. It is not the email account password or the user login, which I tried. Is there a way to override the password, delete it or whatever in order to retrieve the old messages? If I try to import the messages to a new identity, it prompts for the password. How can I remove the password without knowing it, or at least reset it?

A:problem with outlook express

Outlook Express is a part of windows xp & can't be removed. The only way you can reinstall outlook express is to reinstall windows xp. If you do reinstall windows make sure you have the windows install cd that came with your machine. If it didn't come with a cd then you have a recovery partition that will do the job a lot faster than the cd.

On another note you should have created this thread under windows xp not vista. I will ask a moderator to move it for you.
