I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is an article from the newsgroups that tell you how to adjuct the message count for XP.
"Doug Knox MS-MVP" <[email protected] wrote in message
news: [email protected]..
To reset the message count, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Look in the subkey for each e-mail account. The value you're looking is MessageCount

Double clickthe MessageCount entry and set the value to 0.

To disable this option completely visit my web site,
www. dougknox. com and go to the Win XP Fixes section. Follow the link for Disable/Enable Unread Message Count

I added three new e-mail address to my outlook express program. My original address is the default address for start up. Program will not authorize, so I cannot recieve e-mail or use outlook.
The e-mail program starts by it self when the computer boots up. Pop up keeps asking for user name and password, which are on pop up. I hit OK it goes away for a few seconds then returns.
E-mails are on Main Identy page, yet there is not properties for Main Identy.
I have been working on this for hours with no success.

A:outlook express main identity log on

Do you mean that instead of just having three accounts in one identity ; you decided to create seperate identities for each account?
In this case, yes it will ask you to provide a username and password if you set it up that way.

I've got Windows XP. On outlook express, when it first opens, the main window has gone, which says how many unread email messages you have and things. It's gone in the last week or so, but I've scanned my pc for spyware, viruses, malware, adware, everything! Is there anyway to get it back, because I liked it better than opening on to a blank white screen, or my inbox. Thanks.

For some reason in Outlook Express I have an identity called "Main Identity" that appears that wasn't listed before as one of my identitiies. When I try to delete the identity in Manage Identities, it will not let me delete it. When I click the remove button it brings up the message saying "Are you sure you want to remove this idenity?..." and then I click the delete button to go ahead and do it....however, NOTHING happens when I do this. If I try to switch to that identity it brings up an error message saying "Identity Switch Canceled." This identity has never been set up for use for anything and it won't let me change the properties to it or anything. Nothing happens when I click on properties for this identity under manage identites. All I want to do is to GET RID of this identity. It is used for nothing and I can't get rid of it. And by the way, my default identity (the identity used when starting Outlook Express is NOT this identity). Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this "Main Identitiy"

When sending attachments in Outlook Express 6, attachments end up as both an attachment and in the main body.

This is regardless if 'Tools' 'Options' 'Send' settings for mail setting format is set to HTML or Plain Text and when set to HTML, 'Send Pictures With Messages' is unchecked.

Is there any way to toggle OFF a setting that will result in the attachment not being included in the main text body?

Hi jimdell73

Are you referring to the Outlook Express program itself or to a message window?

If messages, drag the edges of the message to fit the screen. Once you close the message the next message you open should open to the same size.

Otherwise, a bit more information is needed. You can also post a screenshot if you think that would help.

Hello All,

I am trying to help a friend clean up thier computer.

There is a small window on the Outlook Express page. This is below the message window. The computer at one time had AT&T Worldnet Service, it is still on the screen. I have searched the register and remove all references to AT&T Worldnet, but still have this window.

Can you tell me how to remove this eyesore?

This is a Sharp brand notebook computer model pc 9020. Win95, 1 G HD about half free. Outlook Express Ver. 5.50.4807.1700.

I have removed all "junk" that I can find. Took the branding off of IE and OE, can not find any thing about the small window using find in the register or hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm using Outlook Express ver 6.00 on Windows 98. I have it configured to take me into my Intray upon startup. Once in there, I have a preview pane on the left hand side showing of all my folders.

Today, I happen to click on the "Outlook Express" root folder at the top of the preview pane. On the right hand side, it displayed what appears to be a bogus "Outlook Info" page -- it showed how many unread e-mails are supposedly in my intray (wrong amount -- it always says 2), as well as a bunch of search-related links all pointing to findwhatever.com, a "tip of the day", and an advertisement for hot, wild dates (adsmgr.com).

Is this how Outlook Express' main start-up folder works (basically useless), or is something else going on?

That is a problem withe the FORM on that webpage, not with your browser.
Click on View/Page Source and find <form and then type=submit.
Somewhere between those items is where it goes wrong for them.

In Win7x64, Google email in the form of HTML source becomes mangled in Office Outlook (which I've substituted for incompatible Outlook Express).

To replace Outlook Express, I first tried Thunderbird, and then Eudora. Only Office Outlook, which is part of MS Office, had all the functions and options of Outlook Express that I like, plus formatting and organization features.

I could use Web Mail with Gmail or ATT-Yahoo, to which I have access, but I prefer getting my mail to my PC and keeping it there.

Hi,

I am new to bleepingcomputer. It's excellent!

My question is this:

At work I have upgraded my computer recently. The new PC runs windows XP home SP2 with Microsoft Office 2003 (plus upgrades). As a result, the email client is Microsoft Outlook.

I have my emails from my old machine saved as .eml files on an external harddrive. This was using Outlook Express. My problem is that XP calls .eml files 'Outlook Express Email Message', and consequently opens them in Outlook Express, not outlook.

So I tried right-click>Open with... and browsed for outlook. All this achieves is creating a new blank outlook email with the old .eml as an attachment. Not the idea!

Is there anyway I can convert the files to open in outlook, not outlook express, so they can be replied to, forwarded, etc.

Or can I configure Outlook better?
Thanks

Simon

A:Upgrading From Outlook Express To Outlook - Problem

Hi Simon, welcome to BC.
You can use either apps import\export function but the messages must reside in the program itself.
Copy your OE e-mail messages from the external drive back in to OE's inbox.
Open Outlook 2003 and click File>Import and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses.
Choose Outlook Express and make sure "Import Mail" is the only option checked below.

A:Problem moving Outlook Express to Outlook.com

Hi,
The equivalent to outlook express is live mail not outlook.com,
Once you download and install a new default email program you'll be able to move the express information to live mail,
Then if you want to connect live mail to a on line service like outlook.com you can,
Live mail is one of many features included in Windows essentials 2012,
Import messages into Windows Mail from Outlook Express
Download a email program,

You can also use a service like Thunder bird,

I am an old guy. I tend to like Outlook Express. Some years ago I finally got it customized in terms of text size and layout the way I like. I am used to it. But, it seems to have some kind of fatal flaw - that every year or so MS OUtlook Express's InBox gets corrupted and makes either or both sending or receiving email no longer possible. It is as if after working properly for a year or two the InBox file gets to a certain size and goes haywire. Is there any remedy for this? Does anyone know of a way to get the RSS of only those 5 articles? (I am pretty sure that it would have to be something custom.)

Dear Forum:

I use Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP 3. My main browser mainpage is MSN. I have others like Google, and Yahoo. I prefer MSN as the main browser, however. For the last three days or so, when I log in to get on line, I've seen the top part of the MSN page-the part that includes the headlines and address bar (so I can navigate to other pages), has simply been erased or something. Only the bottom parts of the headline lettering appears. Other people appear to be having this problem as well. I don't have any bugs in the system as far as I can tell. What's going on? Is MSN being targeted? The Microsoft main site would probably charge me an arm and a leg for a fix that they should be providing their customers for free. The Google and Norton toolbars are there, but they have never blocked out the MSN main pages.

Any suggestions? Steve

Ok, this is really weird. I've looked high and low to see how I could fix this but haven't figured it out. I have had IE 8.0 installed since it came out. I can access every webpage on the planet except the yahoo main page. If I type "mail.yahoo.com" or "sports.yahoo.com" I can see those pages fine. But acessing plain "yahoo.com" just gives me a blank page and the bar at the bottom just says "done". It doesn't say "cannot display page", the page is just completely white. I've checked all my settings and can't figure it out. I had a bout with a virus about a year ago and thanks to several great people on this board, I completely clensed my system and have had no problems since. I had no issues accessing the main yahoo page with other versions of IE.

I have firefox installed and can acess yahoo there just fine, but I use both browsers for various tasks and this one is just plain bugging me. Anybody have any thoughts?

A:Cannot access Main Yahoo page with IE8

Well, in my experience with it, IE8 is a little finicky with the syntax of what you type into the address bar.Click this link and see what you get: http://www.yahoo.com/Also, try typing just yahoo, then hitting Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard (Save 15 Keystrokes ? Hi,
can anyone give me a step by step description, how i can export my Emails and the Address book from Outlook Express 6 to another Computer which runs also Outlook Express 6?
I tried already to export the Address book but it only allows me to export it as a *.csv-File and after i put the data on my usb stick and try to import it on my new computer by File - Import - Addressbook, the program keeps asking me for a *.wab-File? (btw: i can only use the: "Text File (Comma Separated Values))" Option, when exporting the address book.

Export and Import from email messages doesn't work either.

Has anyone a really step-by-step description how to do this??

Thank you very much in advance for your help

A:Solved: Import & Export from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook Express 6

Hi wizzle2003

When you are ready to Import the .csv file on the destination computer,
In Outlook Express,
File > Import > Other Address Book
You should then be given the option to choose a Text File (Comma Separated Values)
Then Browse to the .csv file to complete the Import.
Enable Show Hidden Files and folders:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
To locate the directory where Outlook Express keeps it's message store:
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab > Store Folder
Note the location, then Cancel out of the window.

Navigate to that directory, copy all the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Copy those files to a folder on the Desktop of the destination computer.
If you are using a Flash drive to transfer the files, it may take a couple of transfers to complete.

Once all the .dbx files are on the Destination computer,
Open Outlook Express,
Tools > Import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express 6 > Next
Select: Import mail from an OE 6 store directory
Click: OK
Browse to the folder containing the .dbx files on the Desktop.
When you reach the Finish button,
You should see a "Congratulations Your data was successfully imported"

If there is more than one Identity in Outlook Express, switch to the other Identities in Outlook Express and repeat the steps above.

When sending a group e-mail, i.e. 20 or more addressees , after hitting the send button, I immediately receive an error notification that says my server cannot be found and the e-mail is routed to the outbox. I highlight the e-mail, and again hit the send button, and according to OE, it is sent. I have included my address in the "To" field to help troubleshoot this problem. I receive 2 versions of the e-mail, one in which the "From" field is my e-mail address, and the subject and all text in the message has been stripped.
The second has my name (not e-mail address) in the "From" field and the message and subject is intact. I have had some people tell me they only receive the stripped version.
None of the above happens when I send a single addressee e-mail or even include 3 or 4 addressees. I have configured OE to include my name in the "From" field, not my e-mail address. I have checked under "Accounts" for multiple accounts or some setting issue, checked my virus and spamkiller (McAfee) for some setting problem, but cannot find anything. I am not sure what the threshold is as to the number of addressees (apparently somewhere between 5 and 20) that seems to cause the problem. As noted I do not encounter any server errors when sending single e-mails. Any help would be appreciated.

I mistakenly deleted the Main Identity in Outlook Express since I did not think it was needed anymore as I have three identities that I use.

However, since I deleted the Main Identity, the "switch identity" function does not work; it appears that another identity may be loading since the hourglass appears for a few seconds but nothing appears on the screen. I can also no longer load outlook express at all until I reboot.

If I reboot the computer, then I can bring up one identity but can't switch identities.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

All of my e-mail goes directly to deleted Items on my outlook express. What do I need to fix to get it working correctly

A:Outlook Express Problem

Click on "Tools" then "Message Rules > Mail" and make sure there isn't a rule set up to make it do that. If there is modify or delete it.

When trying to email a previously sent/received document with attachments from 'my documents', oe reads 'one or more of the pictures in this message could not be found; when you send this message these pictures will not be included.' Does that mean only my new message is being sent? If so, without sending it as a new message, is there a way to send it so the new message and all the attachments are sent together?

Also, a friend is trying to email me something with attachments that oe won't let me accept. it reads something like 'oe is not accepting this email due to it possibly being unsafe'. i know i can change the settings in security, but this is the only email i have ever received that oe won't accept. is it Norton or OE? i am concerned that its not just a settings issue. my friends attachment has done no damage to his computer, so why might it be considered unsafe for mine?

A:Outlook Express Problem

I can't help with the first problem but for the second one try opening OE and then go to tools>options>security tab and uncheck box that says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could be a virus"

Be VERY carefull of file attachments unless you are real sure of what they are and who is sending them.

Hi, I get emails OK in outlook express version 6.0 but if there is a link, clicking on it doesn't work. All that happens is that the "from and subject line" turns blue. When I click on "help" all the drop down options appear but none of them work either.
I tried to delete OE and do a fresh install but the deleted files keep coming back. I tried downloading OE version 8.0 but it terminated the download saying that the default browser couldn't be accessed. I've set up Mozilla as default and then Internet explorer but still no joy. I've tried re-loading OE from my Windows XP disk but still no joy. My system is Windows XP and scans show no virus or malware present.
Any help welcome re repairing OE or removing it and re-installing.

A couple of things to try:The first one was a response by Animal in another topic Sometimes this happens if another program or application has registered itself as the default application for browsing the web. If this other program or application has somehow become corrupt, or it has been uninstalled, Outlook Express cannot launch a browser window when you click on a link within an email. To resolve this issue, you need to re-register Internet Explorer as the default browser.Start Internet ExplorerSelect the Tools->Internet Options menuSelect the [Programs] tabLook for a checkbox labelled "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"If this checkbox is not ticked, this is likely the cause of the problem, you need to tick this.Click OKClose Internet ExplorerRe-open Internet ExplorerClose Outlook ExpressRe-open Outlook ExpressIf that does not workAccess Internet Options, from Tools at the top of this page OR from Control Panel.Once you are looking at Internet Options:Advanced tab.RESET your Internet Explorer settings. You will be given the option to Delete Personal Settings. It's up to you whether to delete them. Before you reset, you will have to close out any pages open in IE. By resetting, your home page will be changed to msn. You can easily change it back to whatever you prefer. It will also delete your history, add-ons, form data, etc. After resetting, open up OE, and see if links will open. IE and Outlook Express are closely inter... Read more

I saw a closed session on this-but no solution.
I have to use Outlook Express with Facebook, because Mozella-Foxfire does not work right.
Last week I deleted my cookies-AND HISTORY----
And after that I have to type in facebook- go to search page that shows facebook-sign in and sign in each and every time. I check leave me signed in- but it has not worked since. In other words 4 steps for what used to be 1.

I am sure I need to re-set something-but what? I have not changed anything- same password, same everything, except no cookies and no history.

How do I get this back in History?? Thanks

Outlook Express is an email program, you wouldn't be using that to access Facebook. Do you mean Internet Explorer? What version of Windows are you using?

Outlook Express is a part of windows xp & can't be removed. The only way you can reinstall outlook express is to reinstall windows xp. If you do reinstall windows make sure you have the windows install cd that came with your machine. If it didn't come with a cd then you have a recovery partition that will do the job a lot faster than the cd.

On another note you should have created this thread under windows xp not vista. I will ask a moderator to move it for you.

I got help here yesterday with an outlook problem and fixed it. Now I have one more problem. When I read an e-mail and it goes to Deleted Items folder nothing shows up to tell me how much stuff is in it. This is nothing major but I would like to fix it so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the Deleted folder showing, I just don't have the number showing beside the folder to let me know how much is in it. How do I get the number of items showing????

A:Outlook Express Problem

If you don't have your folder list activated click on "Inbox" to the left of header just above text screen and it will give you your folder view and you can click on Deleted Items folder. You can go to View\Layout and put a tick in "Flolder List" to have the folders showing all the time. Look at these images.

From time to time I will send myself various emails from the office with attachments. For example I forwarded a .wmv video file today and when I click it I get the following windows security warning...Windows found that this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file.I click on the "how does this help protect my computer" I getIs there any way I can open files that have been blocked? If you are certain that you trust this file and want to open it, follow the instructions below.Save the file onto your computer. Click Start, click My Computer, and navigate to the file that you saved. Right-click the file that you saved, and then click Properties. Click Unblock near the bottom of the dialog box. So when I try to do that I get a outlook express message that says "that command failed to execute"I've gone into tools/options/security and have unchecked the box "do not allow attachments ..." and it still doesnt work.I am running Kaspersky Internet Security but see no options that might be causing this to happen. Strangely enough I can forward the same email to either of my children here (who also have Kaspersky) and they can view it just fine. I've looked through their options but can't find anything different. Can anybody help me, I know it has to be something very simple but I can't seem to track it down. Thanks!Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I moved a main folder from the Local Files in Outlook Express at right over to the left because it disappeared, not sure why. It transferred okay but none of the named files within that main file moved including the documents in the main file that still needed to be filed. Is this recoverable? My server told me all files are gone but to check with HP and/or Microsoft. Everyone wants to charge me $59 & up just to answer my question. I can't afford that!

Second question: If recoverable, where would I begin to find all of the missing files? I did get a popup box that I thought it said move to Outlook, but I'm not sure. I clicked on the button too fast. Help.

I have a HP Media Center m7250n with Windows XP operating system.
