Getting sound through internal monitor speakers not my sound card

Q: Getting sound through internal monitor speakers not my sound card

I installed a internal sound card months ago when my original ports on my PC stopped working. Just recently sound started coming from my monitors built in speakers and not my sound card.
I purchased a new sound card to no avail. I still get static and no sound and control panel says device is working properly.
What is going on it has to be something simple I am looking over.
Help please.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Basically i've just got my new laptop this week, had desktop pc's for nearly 10 yrs with internal sound card to power a 5.1 surround system

now ive ordered some krk rokik rp5 g2 monitor speakers but i want to be able to play music from laptop with media player etc, through the monitor speakers at good sound quality.

i no your can get cheap converters, but i imagine a usb sound card with rca outputs would be a lot better yes?

budget around ?70 or so. heard creative aint that good for music, more gaming, films, and been told m-audio or tascam are good for audio.

I have a recording studio. I use Focusrite (British Company) recording interface unit and also drives my Samson Resolv studio monitors and headphones.

Actually, I would try the built in sound module (card) first before buying any add on sound unit. You will be surprised at the improvement in internal sound modules are compared to what they used to be.

Installed a Creative Soundblaster card and it automatically disables the onboard sound and when looking on recording devices Realtek doesn't show. Can I go into the BIOS screen and re-enable onboard audio (providing it allows me to) and will the Realtek HD Audio once again appear in recording devices along with the "what you hear" option the Soundblaster sets up when installing the soundcard ?  Basically, can you have both Realtek and Soundblaster show in recording devices at the same time and have the option to disable one when your not using it ?
The sound card I'm using is the Soundblaster Audigy RX 7.1.
Thanks for any help

Hello there from the Midwest! So I recently had a virus which took out one of the drivers on my computer, thus not allowing me to Start Windows Normally, in Safe Mode with Networking or anything other option. So, I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now, everything is running smooth, except I have not sound coming from my internal speakers. I tried going here, Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers , to which I saw that my HP Compaq DC 7800 needs troubleshooting. I right click to do troubleshooting and it finds that I need PCI Simple Communications Controller as well as the PCI Serial Port. I tried to install the fixes and that was no luck! Now my question is... What in heavens do I do? I really miss listening to my music every morning.

It looks like the first two upgrades for Win7 are BIOS and Chipset drivers and that sounds to me like a good place to start as both of these will help Windows 7 correctly identify the hardware on your computer.

I would first install the chipset drivers which are basically inf files that correctly describe the hardware configuration. A BIOS upgrade is a little more tricky if you've never done one before, I would visit the Hardware & Devices sction of this forum and post a question (re: BIOS Upgrade) there.

Don't know if there's an easy fix as it looks like a couple of things need to be updated first.
Go for the chipset drivers and see if Win 7 recognizes your hardware.

Also, one other question... did you install Windows 7 over the top of your previous operating system or did you wipe (format) the drive and do a fresh install.

The first two

Hello, since today, i don't have sound from the internal speakers, headphones or external speakers work fine! I tried reinstalling sound drivers but nothing has helped so far, can anybody help me with this? It stopped working overnight, I do use the headphones a lot so the jack gets used a lot, is this a hardware or a software issue? And what is likely to fix it since I'm not to keen on sending it in while I'm working on my bachelor's thesis for school.

Hi, erceve
If you go to the Control Panel and open up Device Manager, you should see something called Sound, video and game controllers. Open this up and right-click on the device that controls your speakers (likely Realtek) and select Properties. What is the driver version and status as listed in this Window?
Thanks in advance,

CTO HP Pavilion dv8000 (with Media Center) XP
For some time, I've had sound from headphone jack but not from internal speakers, though when I take out the headphones, for half a second, the music continues through the speaker. HP help told me to reinstall the operating system (XP) which I was not willing to do, as I wasn't sure they knew what they were talking about (again--I've had ill experience here). So when I saw some issues here that sounded similar to mine (turn off digital output--SPDIF), I contacted them again. They determined (likely from some far away place--the grammar and spelling weren't very good, though they were very polite) that it is a hardware issue. I am loathe to send this thing away into the black hole of HP repair. The posts I read here usually had to do with VISTA, but I have XP and couldn't figure out how to do the same thing in XP (SPDIF). Any help would be great. Without some software fix, I'm liable to limp along using headphones and external speaker systems.

it seems like everyone's solution to re-install Windows... easy way out i think... but really... is it worth trying to get these speakers to work? are they very good? you can easily buy external speakers, cheap and they work fine is there anything wrong with external speakers? like you say, its really no point to in sending it away... dunno... don't just take my advice though....

Okay this problem is driving me slightly insane...
I actually called in a dell engineer to help fix it but he completely failed. (as expected).

Okay so the problem is:
My speakers are absolutely fully functioning, they work perfectly when a test is run on start up. I.E. they output beeping sounds.

However when the operating system loads up, there is no sound. If I use headphones it works fine, but the speakers don't output any sound on their own.

So the tech guy changed the internal speakers- still the same problem-and then checked out/updated the drivers which left us with STILL the same problem...tried it in safe mode-still the same problem.

Is there any kind of *easy* solution to this that we're missing?

I'm still waiting for a response from Dell, but don't expect anything really.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can only have one default audio playback device, such as your "Speakers" (the PC's sound card and speakers) or some other device such as the USB soundbar, if it sets itself as the default audio playback device.

I'm using Windows 7 SP-1.  After my system plays audio for a while, distortion sets in.  The only way I've found to get rid of it (maybe for a day or so) is to reboot.  Driver is up-to-date.  I need someone to point me in the right direction.  Dell has been no help to date.  I think it's software related (or the driver is faulty).  Just my opinion.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!

A:M 6800: Distortion in the sound -- internal speakers

Am I correct in understanding that the problem won’t return after a day or so? If rebooting the computer corrects the problem then you are probably correct that this is just software. Just to be sure you may want to completely uninstall the audio driver and reinstall from scratch to make sure that there is no corruption there.
The next time you notice the problem bring up task manager and see what applications and services that you have running. End task any unneeded programs and see if that helps. While in the task manager, click on the performance tab and check to see if all the system resources are being spent. Click the resource monitor button on the bottom and look at what applications are using the most resources.. it may give a clue as to what software is causing the problem.
If restarting the system corrects the problem every time this really doesn't sound like anything is defective with the hardware of the system, hopefully you will be able to find the culprit. Please let me know what you find out.

Dell Inspiron 3542
Windows 10 Home 64bit (1703)
I was watching (and hearing), videos with the laptop at rest on top of my desk and suddenly sound went mute. I check all the typical culprits (Volume Mixer, Playback Devices, Dell Audio Sound Manager, downloaded and reinstalled latest driver, etc), but no sound. Sound does work with headphones and when I insert them the system automatically detects them and adjust volume. When I remove them the system quickly sense that and adjust the volume. So I came here and read Jimco's FAQ. Followed all the recommendations and ran the pre-boot assessment test. Sadly I can not hear the 8 tones. So now, what are my options to fix the problem?

I hope someone here can solve this problem because I'm at my wits end.

I installed a Microsoft headset called "LifeChat LX-3000" with a built in microphone. I only want to use it to make online videos for my business. Everything worked fine until I unplugged the headset. I can't get any sound at all from my computer. The internal speakers and external speakers give me no sound. The only way I can hear anything is by wearing the headset. I finally gave up and uninstalled the headset, but I still can't get any sound.

Any suggestions?? Why in the world can't I get my sound back??

A:[SOLVED] No Sound Through Internal or External Speakers

First, I am assuming that you still have your speakers hooked up the female mini pin that is green.

Second, go to
Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Device properties

3. Click on audio tab. Default device listed should be your onboard audio or sound card. If is not selected, select it and hit apply. If nothing is in the selection box, you may have to reinstall or re-enable your audio device.

4. Click on volume tab. Make sure mute is not selected.

Hello,I have recently noticed that my T480 is making "humming" sound into internal speakers when they are inactive (not playing anything). When I mute them (Fn+F1) it'll stop making humming sound immediately. I also noticed, that killing audiodg.exe (Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation) from taskmanager helps until another sound is played from speakers. It looks like audiodg.exe is unable disable it self into some kind of "inactive" mode. I'm running lastest Win10 1803 with latest drivers from Lenovo Vantage.Thank you

I've just received my Laptop back from repair and all seems to be well, I had my screen panel replaced, gpu replaced(from 570m to 670m), new hard drive and CPU fan. However the problem I seem to be having is that internal speakers are completely not working.

I can see that bolume bar in for my internal speakers is actually changing but there is no sound. My system is not muted (unless there's some secret button I'm missing out on) No matter what i try it seems that sound will not work through my internal speakers, I've plugged in my Razer headset(Kraken) that works with my other computer but is not even detected when plugged in the Audio jacks of my laptop(Doesnt even pick up the microphone) and this did work before I sent it out for repair. Sound only works through HDMI output into a TV/Monitor.

Now I'm not sure if this some software configuration that I have to do or something physical with the hardware but I would prefer to not have to send it back as it would take a month to get back to me and also the repair company states that if the problem is due to software then they will charge.

I assume it's a conflict that Realtek HD audio manager is having or something but none of my devices show up on the RealtekHD Audio Manager nor do I get a pop up when a device is detected(which is what normally would of happened)

Hi there

I have an Acer Aspire laptop and bought a little bass speaker that will enhance what I currently have on my laptop.

Only problem however is that when plugging this speaker into the headphone jack my internal speakers don't play anymore.

How can I play through both my internal laptop speaker and through this external speaker at the same time.

Your help would be much appreciated!

A:Play sound through internal speakers and headphones simultaneously

For most systems dual sound is impossible. Actually I'm not sure if that is possible at all on any card at all...I've browsed around the internetz, and this is what everyone seems to say on this subject.
My advice would be if you are using your laptop for home use only, just go buy external speakers as well, as long as you have 2 sound ports. If not you can get a splitterand plug both the bass and speakers in that.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help!

I just reloaded a laptop with XP SP2. After reload, my laptop internal and external speakers don't produce any sound. I loaded the driver from the laptop manufacturers website. And everything appears to be set correctly and working from a systems view. However - no sound from PC on boot, application, or cd or dvd play.

In Control Panel/Sound and Audio
Hardware tab - Windows says the hardware is working OK
Volume tab - All mute buttons are off/unchecked. Volume is high on all componets - PC Speaker etc.

I've also removed the driver and reloaded it. still nothing.

Is there anything else I should try? I doubt it is the motherboard.....

A:No sound from internal or external speakers after XP reload on laptop

It may not be the correct driver. There are some cases that the OS wopuld not report any abnormalities but the driver may not be the exact driver you need. Identify the sound device you need ( you can use unknown device identifier for that ) and download the apropriate driver.

Also check the microphone socket incase something got stuck in there.

Hi community, let me first explain how I assume the switch between headphones and speakers should work:I turn on music or anything esle and if no headphones are plugged in, every sound comes from the internal speakers. Now if I plug in headphones then the sound comes exclusively from the headphones. If I pull then out again the sound comes from the speakers and so on. In my case the situation is the following:If I have no headphones plugged in and turn on music, then I hear if via speakers. If I decide to continue listening to that music via headphones and plug them in, then the music continues to come from the speakers, but for example the notification sound from outlook comes from the headphones. This works vice versa. If I open, say youtube to watch a video, while having the headphones plugged in, I will hear the sound via them. If I now unplugg them, the speakers will stay silent. What can I do that if there are no external speakers plugged in (headphones etc.) every sound will be played by the internal speakers, if I plug in some sort of external speaker it comes from them and if I unplugg it it switches back to the internal speakers?Thank you very much for your help!Best regards

I just installed a used sound card that I got from a friend free, a Soundblaster Live! Value card. Before I had a cheap SB card, 128D or something. Anyway, I removed my old card from device manager and then I turned off the computer and took the old card out and put the new one in. Then I switched the computer back on, it gave me some grief about the drivers and such but I fixed that and device manager now says its fine.

Also, before with my old card I just had the card appear on Device Manager and that was it. Now, I have this new tree appear that says "Miscallaneous Creative Devices" (?), and under that is "Creative Multimedia Interface", and "Creative SB Live! SB16 Emulation". I don't know what those are. Then under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" I have the "SB Live! Value" card show up. I don't know why 3 new things appeared when I only installed the sound card, but whatever. Device Manager says there are no problems, conflicts, whathaveyou.

Everything looks fine and I have the little volume control thing on the taskbar as well as "SB Live! Mixer" on there, I used to have that with my old card but it had a different name but the same icon. Welcome to techsupportguy smoothcrimin
I think that you might have a problem with drivers ... Basically using the old SB drivers with the new SB card. It's normal to have a new entry in Device Manager ( why creative labs makes it , i really don't know). Try and remove all the entries in Device Manager ( SB wise) , restart in Safe Mode( if you have win98 or win ME , for win2k or XP is a different story) and do the same thing. Power down , then go ahead move the card to a different slot. Power up and install the lastest drivers for SB ( from www.soundblaster.com )

.I've updated the Realtek High Definition driver and believe system is up to date on everything else. Would this be a matter of just disabling the onboard speaker?

I have a hp pavilion mx70 monitor with side speakers and usually they work perfectly fine with my usual harddrive but I have swapped it over to an NEC Powermate VT harddrive (hp harddrive had the motherboard die on me and i haven't gotten a new one yet)

Anyway, the sound coming through the hp monitor is really soft even though all volumes are turned to max. Is this a problem with the driver for the monitor or is it something to do with the harddrive? I'm really not sure where to even look to find how to fix this problem.

A:sound through monitor speakers

when you say all volumes do you mean the ones in the volume controls in your computer or on the speakers themselves? what jack do have the speakers connected to on your sound card? in volume controls, if you checked there, did you turn up all the levers, including wave, line in , etc?

Dell 5559 i5 6200u with AMD m350 audio crash(audio cracking sound) when power source is changed usually when power shifts to battery. the problem often occurs when watching online videos, like from youtube or Facebook. the sound is choped and terrible noise came with audio from Laptop speakers. But no sound issue when using a plug in device like headphones. or external speakers.
only solution is to restart that application.

Drivers are fully updated.
battery is fully charged.
problem with all web browsers.

A:Dell 5559 Audio Crash or /cracking/Choping sound from laptop internal speakers when PowerSource is changed.

Search for sound goto the properties of the speaker now to the advanced tab and select the bitrate '24 bit,48000Hz....or you could just uninstall the audio driver....hope this helps

I have plugged in a new sound card to my HP Pavilion 500 PC series because I want one sound to card to run with iTunes and the new one to run with another media player.

I simply opened the case and plugged in the new sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy FX). The new sound card is working but the original one is no longer working.

Any help to get them both working at the same time?

A:New internal sound card

Windows, by default, will only use one chipset for all audio.

Some media players will allow you to select the destination (ie: audio chipset) in their configuration. If either of your media players has that option (in the audio configuration of the media player), then use that player to select the non-default audio chipset.

My usb keyboard and mouse stop working for abt 30 sec or so when I put my phone in charging mode with one of my usb ports...will it be safer to get a usb sound card or an internal pci sound card?.I prefer the usb sound card for its portability;especially if I shift to notebook platform. but I am worried about not getting enough juice through the usb port to power the sound amplifier since I have connected quite a number of devices on existing usb ports.. choices are either,'asus xonar DG' internal pci sound card or 'creative sound blaster play 2 usb sound card'.

I have a Dell 3847 desktop running Win 8.1 My monitor is an HP W2072a with two internal speakers. I originally hooked pc to monitor with a vga cable and plugged the sound cable into the audio out on the pc. I went through the system check and it recognized the speakers and when I checked for latest drivers it said they were already at the latest. I made surfe speakers on the pc and the monitor were set high. Could not get any sound through the system sound effects tests.

I then hooked the pc up to my desktop external speakers and all was well! So the sound card works! I did not use the audio cable that came with the monitor. Could it be bad? I doubt it.
Checked with HP support and a not very knowledgeable guy said to get sound I needed to go DVI instead of vga. My pc has only vga and hdmi so I took a cable that went hdmi on the pc to dvi on the monitor and no sound again.

Any ideas?

My boss just bought an Hp w2207h, 22'' monitor. Built in speakers on monitor plug directly into back of desktop, but no sound

His previous external speakers work just fine, and when the monitor is plugged into another computer it works just fine.

I should mention that this is all on a brand new computer which I don't have the spec's for, but could get if needed.

Thanks in advance

Hi Gents,

Here I am again with a strange problem:-(

When I connect my speakers to the Headphones jack at my PC I can't
hear any sound any more.
Win7 pro reports no errors.
When I start from a Ubuntu LiveCD it works fine.

Any Ideas

A:I can hear sound only from the Monitor speakers

When you plug in your headphones make sure they are not muted. In the bottom right of the screen click on your speakers icon. Worth a shot especially if they work in Ubuntu.

If that is correct then right click on the icon and then click on 'Volume Control Options' and make surethe settings are correct for your headphones.

My computer monitor has built in speakers. They use to work fine and all of a sudden I can't hear sound out of my monitor speakers. I have speakers that I can hook-up to my computer, and when I connect them the sound works fine, but if I choose not to connect the speakers and just use the monitor speakers like before. I can't get any sound. I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. I've ran all types of sound checks and I don't have any errors on my sound...but just can't get the sound coming from my monitor anymore. Can you please advise what you think the problem may be?

Windows Edition: Windows 7 Ultimate
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800 + 2.00GHz
System type: 32-bit Operating System

Thanks in advance,

There is a cable running from the monitor to the Sound output on the back of the computer. Is the cable plugged into the monitor? Is the cable plugged into the Green audio out port of the computer?
