U310 can no longer access bios

Q: U310 can no longer access bios

I bought a u310 slightly used but had a failing HDD. The person who was using it installed an operating system on the SSD and now I can't seem to access the bios at all. I had read that this may happen if Rapid Start is not disabled before formatting the SSD. What do I need to do to be able to access the bios again? There is no bios files listed as a download for this computer so I can't even seem to be able to flash the bios. I already sent it to lenovo to replace the HDD and instead they tried to charge me $167 to image the machine, which I said no to and they sent the computer back without fixing it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear All, Hope all of you are very good! My name is Eduardo and I'm from Brazil. I have a ultrabook U310 touch from Lenovo, s/n QB06816995, and I am in a terrible problem! The screen of this ultrabook is broken and I'm using an external VGA monitor at this moment. I have connected the external VGA monitor in the HDMI port of the ultrabook using a HDMI/VGA cable. Using an external monitor I'm not able to see the BIOS or boot screens when I turn on the ultrabook. The first screen that I have seen is the Windows logon (maybe because in that moment, the operating system has sent a signal to an external monitor and in the boot this situation doesn't happen). The problem is: I want and I have to install a new operating system in this ultrabook once I can't enter into the original SO anymore, and for doing that, I have to access the BIOS and change the priority of booting in order to use a windows bootable pendrive or DVD. I have already tried to do the following steps: 1) to use the keys to change from the main screen to an external monitor; 2) disconnect the battery for 15 seconds and drain the energy in order to do the first step again; 3) remove the HDD and connect it in another computer to format it using a wintohdd software and assemble it again in the ultrabook; 4) to do the third step without using the wintohdd software; 5) look at the youtube and try to find some videos where I could watch someone doing something i... Hello, I have had a U310 Touch for over three years now and I have recently discovered that after the upgrade to Windows 10 the BIOS is now nonexistant. When I run the command prompt to identify the BIOS it is blank where it should show which version I have. When pressing the NOVO button I receive the option screen to boot to BIOS or Boot Management screen but no matter what option I select the OS boots regularly. Is there any known solutions for this. When searching the drivers and downloads section with the computer in question no BIOS files appear. Thanks

Hello, I recently installed a new SSD in my U310 laptop and put Windows 10 on it. Everything was working fine until I ran the Bios update found on Lenovo's website located here. After the update installed without any error messages, the machine rebooted and I was left looking at the boot menu. I selected the ssd and the screen went blank for 15 seconds or so and then the boot menu appeared again. I've restarted the machine several times, tried booting from usb, and even tried putting the old hard drive back in but I just keep getting the blank screen and then back to the boot menu. Nothings working. When the computer first starts it doesn't show a lenovo logo or any text. Because of this it seems that I'm unable to get into the bios too. What do I do here? Hello, Thank you for your time, my issue started with a broken screen, I asked for a replacement through mail, when I installed the new screen it seemed to work fine. At a certain time of turning off the computer and starting it, the resolution is off by 86 pixels horizontal, the original resolution is 1366x768 (16:9), and now shows 1280x800 or multiples (w=1280,h=*). At first I thought it was an issue with drivers with Windows 10 the forums entries I found seem to indicate this, tried all of them. I also tried the custom screen resolution tool from Intel, it adds the resolution inside the tool, but it does not list the new resolution in the "graphics properties" section. With no luck at solving the problem I tried to boot a GNU/Linux Live version from a FlashDrive, with GNU/Linux showing the same resolution limitation. I've noticed that going to the BIOS is showing the same screen usage. After this, my old screen still works it just the crystal that got cracked, I reinstalled and noticed that has the same screen size problem, so is not the new screen it seems. This is the point till I've gotten, don't know much about UEFI maybe it saves screen resolution information at a place I can't reach, and is not adapting itself correctly imposing it screen scan to the OS that start to work after UEFI. The only thing that comes to mind. Your help is appreciated,Thank you.

After nearly two years of running with few problems, suddenly my system does not recognize the HD.

I had some serious issues when I installed XP SP3 when it came out but was able to restore to an earlier configuration and uninstall it. I read that AMD processors had issues with the update so I did not install it - thought Microsoft would release a new version that was AMD friendly eventually.

Now I'm having errors that remind me of that event however I'm not able to boot successfully even when I try to choose the last configuration that worked option on boot up.

I am able to boot with the XP installation CD in the CD ROM. I am able to get into the Bios. Neither option recognizes any hard drive installed.

Any ideas on what I can do to get the bios to recognize the HD? I have not changed any physical settings inside the computer (jumpers, cables, etc.).

I'm running XP SP2 (unless SP3 somehow managed to install itself when I wasn't looking) on system I built. CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core, 1G memory.

That's pretty much all there is to it. I overclocked my computer too far, reset the bios to fix it and when i got back on MSN and AIM failed to work. Yahoo still does, and if i try trillian i can still connect to AIM, but MSN wont let me connect.

Actually thats slightly inaccurate, i COULD log onto both AIM and MSN for about 12-14 hours after resetting my bios but now i get errors. I can still log on on my laptop though.

I get error code 80048820 for MSN
and i get a simple connection failed with AIM which then asks me to auto configure or change settings.

I have tried re-installing MSN which didnt work, ive also tried fooling with both of their settings and that didnt work either. Everything else works just fine. Not quite sure what to do =/
thanks for any help!

A:after hp bios update pin no longer works

I'm not an expert, but i might be able to offer some help. Do you mean: You now have to use a password to log into Windows instead of a pin? Or Do you mean: You now have to use a password to even start the computer loading Windows? I'll assume you mean the former and that should be easy to remediate:That option you can set in the Windows 10 settings panel. You just open that from the Start-menu -> Open accounts -> Login options -> Add pincode.

Hi,

I ran into this problem about a week ago and have not been able to find the solution to it, so I'm turning to you folks for help.

Normally, when I turn it on, I get the Asus logo (it's an Asus laptop, obviously), then shortly thereafter I would get the Windows log in screen. When I now turn my laptop on, I get a black screen for about a minute, then I go directly to my BIOS screen. I check the boot menu and I can see that it has selected the Windows Boot Manager as the first boot option. If I select it and try to change it, the only options are the Windows Boot Manager and Disable.

When I exit the BIOS and my laptop reboots, the same thing happens. I can repeat this several times over and never get past my BIOS.

I have tried using a Live USB. I can get past the BIOS and get the Windows logo. It appears for several minutes, then disappears and leaves me at a blank screen. It will stay in this state until I decide to turn the laptop off. I've left it for over 24 hours like this with no change. During this time, I have not seen any indication of any hard drive activity, nor any activity from the USB stick. I would expect a menu that would allow me to do some troubleshooting, get me into Safe Mode, or the command prompt, but I get nothing. Even if I press the function keys when I see the Windows logo, I still get nothing.

I tried to boot using an Ubuntu live USB and was able to boot into Ubuntu without any problems. Ubuntu is not installed on my laptop, it's ... Read more

I just received a brand new Thinkpad P50 with Windows 10 Pro. It originally came with a 256GB SATA M.2 SSD where Windows 10 Pro was installed. I was originally able to get into the BIOS settings by holding 'enter' during boot up where it displayed a message like 'to interrupt normal start up, press enter'. I know this worked before because I went in to check on the virtualization settings to enable them. Upon booting Windows 10 Pro, I immediately used the Windows Backup and Recovery to take a full system image and created a Windows repair disc too. I then swapped the 256GB SATA M.2 SSD for a 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD and used the Windows repair disc to restore the system image onto the new 512GB SSD. The restore process completed successfully and rebooted, but at this point, the system would not reboot with error "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE". After a lot of messing about, I eventually did a "reset my PC" where it appears to re-install Windows and now it boots up just fine on the new 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD. Although not as smooth of a process as I would have hoped, but at least I made progress. HOWEVER, now when I boot the machine, and I see the message 'to interrupt start up, press enter' message, pressing enter does nothing and it immediately boots Windows. The only way I can get back into the BIOS settings is:1) boot into Windows2) -> 'settings'3) -> 'update & security'4) -> 'recovery'5) -> 'restart now'6) -> 'Troubleshoot'7) -> 'Advanced options'8) ->... Kushana77,

I wanted to provide some information regarding "Always On USB".

"Always On USB" was not supported in Helix-2 hardware. The BIOS menu for AOU control was accidentally included in previous BIOS, and subsequently removed in BIOS v1.83.

Unfortunately, AOU function is not related to the symptom of your battery draining quickly during connected standby.

Hello all, I built my own PC 4 years ago.

Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Corsair 1000HX Modular PSU
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme 1366 RT

Everything went fine until recently. I noticed when I would restart it wouldn't load back up. I had to shut it down and restart it again, but it would always work the second time. Now it happened again and it isn't starting at all. I mean the power runs and the fans spin and the lights on the mobo and videocard both seem positive, but I cannot get anything on the screen. I have to shut it down by holding down the power button.

I have tried the clear bios button, I have tried using only 1 stick of RAM and swapping them around, and I put in a new CMOS battery. None of them did the trick, it still just turns on and hangs with no output.

What can I do next?

Thanks!

Need Help!!!!

Okay,
I've been searching the web all day and keep getting stuff that dances around this issue.

My PC has a gigabyte mobo model GA-7ZXE Rev 2.1

Prior to this I have had no problems from this PC...
About a month ago I updated the Bios due to some problems I was having and it took the update but caused my PC to boot up really slow then it began crashing frequently. So today I flashed the bios back to the earlier version.
After the reboot the post gets to checking NVRAM...... and stops. It never searches for drives nor counts the memory or anything, I have tried everything under the sun. I have used another PC to creat the bootble flash diskette, but the bos never gets to the point of loading the drives.
I have removed the CMOS battery for over 10 mins both with the power supply plugged in to the mobo and disconnected from it. The only jumpers I see are for the CPU clock speed.
Beside the battery PRINTED on the mobo is BIOS_WP but no jumpers near it. There is a set of jumpers below it labeled IR. But nowhere in the manual does it explain what IR is, or what it does. I am guessing Infrared???

Because the stystem hangs at the checking NVRAM I can't even press DELETE to enter the CMOS/BIOS setup. If I could get there I could reload a different Bios. The Bios is AMIBIOS the chip has 686 on it.
I have looked all over AMI's website adn Gigabytes website. No Luck.
I you need to look at the manual for the mobo it can be found at www.gig... Read more

I encountered this problem and was lucky to find the solution on this forum. To help others, I am making this new post with more detailed info. Problem: you wish to update the BIOS (for whatever reason). You either do not have a CD-Rom (disc drive) in your machine, or it is not working. Solution: locate an external disc drive, or better: install (even if only temporary) a CD/DVD drive: there are lots available for free from anyone who deals with computers. Reasoning: the "flash using Windows" method is risky. I used it, because the drive that came with a "new"(used) computer was inop., and I didn't want to stop, find one and swap it out. The BIOS flash routine failed before completion and  therefore did not initiate a re-boot. The end result was that the computer would start, but hang after the BIOS loaded and went to boot the OS. No method of starting would work. {Described in this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M92p-no-longer-booting-after-BIOS-update/td-... } Rant: the text file detailing the "Flash with Windows" utility should include a specific warning that flashing within an OS is inherently _RISKY_! It should strongly recommend using the "make a CD-rom disc" method. Furthermore, the instructions for recovery from the Hardware Maintenance Manual SHOULD BE INCLUDED!:&... Read more

I have a HP Pavillion a350n with Windows XP SP3. The factory default is Windows XP SP2. Here is my story:

My computer became infected with viruses about 4 months ago, and so I felt I had no choice to reinstall Windows XP. My dad had a Windows XP CD and so I used that. When it was completely installed, it asked for a Windows Activation Code. I didn't have one, so I clicked activate later. 30 days go by and it says I need to enter a code, so I went online to learn about using OOBETimer to get past this. It worked. 30 days later, it said I needed to enter the code again. So I looked online and found a way using some really long command that would reset the 30 days. All was going good until a week ago. Now when I try to log into my regular account it says I need to activate the code, and when I click enter code, it says it's already been activated and sends me back to the log-in page and this just repeated. So I went into safe mode and tried to look up some possible solutions and I learned abut making CDs with HP Recovery. Only problem is that that program is gone now that I don't have the original windows installed. So I restarted and pressed esc to see my "boot from..." options, and Recovery (H: Drive) wasn't on the list. Now when I log into safe mode, it says I must activate windows and I cannot do that in safe mode.

I have heard of a way using something called Bart's Boot Disk to show the files in the Recovery HDD and click Restore.exe, bu... Read more

A:No longer access my PC. Fix?

You really want to read the forum Rules to make sure you can stick around and enjoy the site for a long time.

We don't help with illegal or pirated software at all, and I was about to close this until I saw "does anyone know of a way to get around this and just reinstall my original windows?". This we can try to help with.

Trying to get the Recovery disks was correct. I infer from a couple of your statements that this computer came with XP pre-installed. Yes? If so, you should have the valid 25-character Product key (or Windows Activation Code) on a sticker on the side, bottom or back of the computer. If your Dad's XP matches yours (Home or Pro or Media Edition) you should be able to install from his CD and use your key.

If you have the key but the versions don't match maybe you can borrow somebody else's.

If none of the above works then the next options are to buy a valid XP from a legitimate retailer or learn to use a Linux distribution on that machine. I suggest you give Ubuntu a look. Not everybody will agree with me, but I think it pretty much has the "look and feel" of XP. If your major use is games you probably will not be happy with Linux, but for doing most everything else (except for becoming infected) it matches up well with Windows.

Hi,
XPS 9350 (still in warranty) often freezes at DELL logo on restart after the latest ROM update 1.4.4.
I followed the Dell APAC support instruction to perform ePSA, quote:
For your case, I suggest you can run the test first?can check your
computer is hardware issue or software issue?
1.Shutdown.
2.Connect the AC adapter.
3.Long hold the "Fn" key, and then press power button.
4.When you see colour screen, please loosen the "Fn" key?select "Yes".
5.System will auto run the test, you can wait the result.
ePSA freezed on memory tests. I have no option but to long press power button to poweroff and reboot. Then, my BIOS password no longer works and Dell Support now said the following:
Received your picture, for this issue is the BOIS password issue. Is beyond the scope of warranty.
So if you want to repair in DELL, need to pay.
I really don't understand how Dell could degenerate into this (or perhaps just a bad support) after being a loyal customer for many years. Could anyone helps here?

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it was genuine for over a year and suddenly it is not genuine.

When I try activating with my key it said that the BIOS is missing a license.

Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks.

Hi All,

I've had my BIOS update from toshiba website, when i used it to update my laptop it crashed and now my computer is no longer working, tried authorised service provided but they were unable to fix it!, and said i have to change my motherboard which is almost more expensive than my laptop itself, i'm sure you understand now that i don't have warranty anymore

What i need your support about is the following:

Can someone provide me with .ROM BIOS files for this model?

If not does anyone have any information of how to fix it?

If this is not available either can someone provide me with the model of this particular motherboard so i can order a new one?

Thank you in advance

Until recently I saw a startup screen with message ESC = boot menu, F1 = Setup and F10 =  System Recovery.  Now the screen stays black until logon screen appears.  Logging on etc is OK.  My BIOS Version/Date is:  Phoenix Techmologies, LTD 3.11, 12/2/2005. When purchased it had Win XP that I updated to Win 8.1.  Last year when Microsoft offered free upgrade to Win 10, I attempted the install, but the OS crashed forcing me to do a System Recovery back to Win XP.   It was very difficult finding Win XP SP3 to download again.  Maybe the startup screen with BIOS choices no longer showed after the Win XP SP3 upgrade.

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Hello

My last BIOS update has failed and now my laptop Satellite PrU400 PSU45E is out of order.
I want to use the Crisis Recovery Disk with an USB floppy drive but I don't know the key combination to run the boot-block.
Is anybody can help me?

Best regards

Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. What is my best course of action?:

- shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)
- replacing the BIOS chip
- something else?

Any guidance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:Toshiba A105: Failed BIOS flash; now no BIOS access & won't boot

Im trying to figure out why I've had no replies yet.

Have I asked a stupidly easy question that everyone is rolling their eyes to and cant bear to tell me the answer? Or have I stumped everyone?

I have a hard time believing this is a stumper. I've found the same question posted elsewhere on the net and shorting the CMOS seemed to help. That or removing the battery altogether (its soldered to the board), but I dont think Im doing it right. Can someone give me directions on that?

or is this just a lost cause? :-/

Thanks in advance

HI, Please skip to paragraph six for the actual issue I am having--the preceding paragraphs include info that may help to identify how to fix this. I am posting this using my HP desktop running Windows 7 as my Lenovo Ideapad 110 cannot connect to internet as explained below: Firstly, Sorry if I am breaking community guidelines in any way with this post. I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

Hello,

I used a program to transfer my OS and the desired contents from my HHD to a new SSD drive. Everything is working well with the new SSD besides one thing, when try to save or access any files on the old HHD I get an "Access is Denied" error or something similar.

I tried right clicking on the HHD (now F) and going to properties>security> and changing permissions to allow all. I've also gone one step futher into advanced>owners and tried changing the owner to the name of the computer.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I just want to use the HHD as storage as my SSD is only 120 GB.

Thanks for your help.

A:HHD to SSD OS transfer - Can No Longer Access HHD

You could try changing the ownership of the "F" drive to "System" or "Admistrators", just choose the account from the active OS. You may need to take ownership of the "F" drive.

Alternatively, you could just delete the partition on "F" drive and/or reformat the drive in the same, or other PC.

I have a Windows 2000 server / domain controller in my home office, with a windows 2000 workstation and several non-windows machines on the same network. We are connected to each other via the router whch connects us to our DSL connection. This has been up and running without a hitch for over a year.

I only have required ports open on the router, I have virus protection enabled on the machines, and everybody's clean. All machines are completely current on windows patches.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my workstation crashed... since I have rebooted it, I can no longer reach my network server. No error messages, no problems, just can't reach the networkserver. From my server I can see my workstation just fine. From my workstation, though, I cannot reach the domain ... I SEE the domain, and when I double-click on it, I get "server not accessible". I tried to ping the internal address of my server from my workstation (192.168.1.x) and I get "PING: Transmit failed, error code 65."

Can someone point me in the right direction for what to check, what could have "dropped" in that crash? Thanks in advance.

I can no longer access my midi on usb. It worked well on earlier OS, it has been sketchy since I moved over to W10, it would lose my midi ports or they would lock up with a memory problem. I could fiddle around with things sometimes and get it back but I can no longer do that even. The ports it 'sees' are the wavetable and MIDI Mapper, but not either of the cables I have been using in the past. This occurs on my scoring program and on the VanBasco player as well. Please help, and thanks.

A:No longer able to access internet

Welcome to SF,

What type of Security or Firewall software that you're using? Might be interfering your browsing in Normal boot? Completely disabling it of uninstall then reinstall might help.

If that didn't help it can be some malware activities.
