Latitude E5470 touchpad stops working during videos

Q: Latitude E5470 touchpad stops working during videos

I have a Dell Latitude E5470 on Windows 10 Enterprise, running the most up to date BIOs, chipset, touchpad driver, and display driver.
I am running into an issue that whenever a video, be it streamed or saved locally, begins to play, the touchpad no longer responds. The icon in the bottom right tray will not show any input, be it clicking or trying to move the mouse, and the mouse will not move, or allow clicks to register. Once the video is exited out, the touchpad resumes functionality. An external mouse and the Pointstick will continue to work during videos.
Has anyone else ever experienced this before, and if so, was there a fix?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just bought a refurbished Dell latitude 2110. Worked fine when I got it, but then the touch screen stopped working. If I reboot, it works until I choose a user, then stops when I open the user account. It's going back unless I find that I've inadvertently turned the touchscreen off. Without the touch screen, it's pretty much a brick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Recently I have bought my Dell Latitude E5470 laptop and from the beginig I have annoying touchpad issue :(
When trackpoint and touchpad are active at the same time, cursor freezes for 3-5 seconds and moves to the left at a small angle. When trackpoint is disabled, cursor freezes for 3-5 seconds and doesn't move at all. If I use touchpad actively, this happens each minute or two.
I have checked this situation from the BIOS and the case looks slightly different, but still the same.
Please, help me to solve my problem. Thank in advance!

This Latitude E5470 is quite new, but out of warranty, but the fingerprint has never worked properly.
It works sometimes, but mostly not. I've tried re-doing the fingerprint recognition several times, but it keeps telling me that it might need cleaning. I have to put in the pin number most of the time. Its terrible.
My 5 year old Vostro works fine, but this new laptop is really bad - this was an expensive laptop, I'm really disappointed.
It didn't work with Win7 and Win10.
Any ideas on how to fix this.Should I reinstall the driver (how do I do this?), replace the fingerprint pad - anything else? Thanks

HI folks,
Not sure if this problem belongs here but I thought I'd give it a try.
So my laptop(on battery) windows loading starts and ends and before the logon screen the laptop goes dead.
On AC power I don't have this issue.
I havent tried fresh windows installation etc because it's a work laptop and would result in a couple of days delay before i get back on track.
Any solutions ?
Many thanks

Hi Guys,

It's my first post, i need help with a Latitude E5470, we got it with Windows 7 preinstalled, i load our Windows 10 corporate image on it and encripted using Bitlocker.
The problem is that the user forgot his Bitlocker PIN and locked the TPM, i got to Windows using the recovery key and decrypted the drive succesfully. Now, when i try to encrypt the drive i got the "The tpm on this computer is currently locked out" message.

I already upgraded the BIOS to versión 1.4.7, formatted the drive and loaded OS again, restored BIOS defaults/Factory settings, used PowerShell commands but all with no progression.
Thanks in advice for any help.

A:Tpm on Latitude E5470 locked out

The TPM can be cleared by using the Windows administrative snap-in (start-run-tpm.msc).
Note that doing so will clear not only the TPM keys but everything protected by them.

I can't find a straight answer in the support docs.

A:Will a Latitude E5470 fit a 9.5mm 2.5" HDD?

That chassis will take a 9.5 mm drive -- the higher line 74xx models are slimmer and are 7 mm only.

I was offered either a Dell PA-2E and a Dell PA-3E by a friend to use with my Latitude e5470. I lost my original charger and part of the attractions of these other two chargers is that they are slim and better for packing for the travel I have to do.
Is there any reason that these two charges would not work with my Latitude?

A:Latitude e5470 Charger

If the system has integrated video, either will work.  If it has  hybrid video you need the 3E (90W) -- the 2E (65 W) doesn't provide sufficient power.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 7559 for about a week now, it runs windows 10. Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work. At first the single tap (left click) didn't work. But the left click button worked fine and the two tap (right click) worked fine too. I restarted it, single tap works again.
This happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate. There was no touchpad on my mouse settings, only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS/2 Compatible Mouse. I don't have any mice. I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up. I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly. However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows 10 settings said the trackpad was on, the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said that the Elan smart-pad was not enabled it and restarted. When I went back to the same settings after the restart, it was not enabled again. So I enabled it. Two hours later, the trackpad was back to not registering single taps. Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing.
The next day, single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll/zoom etc still worked. I restarted and it worked again. Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar. Once you opened something you couldn't click at all. Again I restarted and it "fixed"... Read more

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing.  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only three days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.
These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

what else should i check,? even turning off visual effects its still handling like a brick....

A:Latitude E5470 running very slow

The Dell diagnostics may reveal something - F12 at powerup.  Also, 4G of RAM is relatively low for a 64-bit system - you may be seeing a lot of virtual memory use, and if that's on a conventional spinning hard drive, is likely the system bottleneck.

We just received a batch of E5470's but we are unable to encrypt them with Bitlocker.  We will be installing Win7 64bit.  The BIOS is at 1.12.6.  We will PXE boot and image these from a MDT.
In the BIOS, we select:
Boot sequence - UEFI (uncheck onboard NIC ipv4 and 6)
Advanced boot options - Select "enable legacy option ROMS" and "enable attempt legacy boot"
Integrated NIC - Check "enable UEFI network stack" and "enabled with PXE"
SATA Operation - AHCI
Security TPM 2.0 - "TPM On"  "SHA-256"  "Attestation Enable" "Key Storage Enable" and of course "Enabled"
Secure boot enable - "disabled"
MBAM gets loaded during the image.  When we login and attempt to enable bitlocker, it fails to encrypt every single time.

At the first login after the image, the TPM does show in device manager as "Broadcom USH" with an exclamation point.  After running Windows Updates and rebooting, it'll show as "Trusted Platform Module 2.0".

Does TPM need to be at 1.2 instead of 2.0?
Could someone please post the exact steps in order to get this enabled?

Hi ,
I am having problems installing our corporate version of Windows 7 Enterprise.
I have four new E5470 Laptops, all without an internal CD/DVD drive installed.
When loading Windows 7 Enterprise from either an external USB connected CD/DVD Rom drive, or from a USB 3 stick, the installation commences as far as letting you change the language set from US to UK English but then bombs out after this.
It comes back with the error "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains drivers and then click ok".
I have downloaded and installed all the drivers from the Dell web site for this model laptop onto the installation USB 3 stick but it still does not see and let you select them. Or if you plug in another separate USB stick or if you burn the drivers to CD and change the disk in the external drive unit.
It seems to be because these 'drivers' or whatever files are required, need to be slip streamed into the installation routine.
I have four of these laptops in total, all brand new, and the fault happens on each.
Windows driver problem?

A:Latitude E5470 - Win 7 Installation - No Drivers

If I understand your situation properly, we're in the same boat. Basically I received a laptop with the 7 pro install on it directly from Dell and wanted to install 7 enterprise by using a bootable USB.
Due to the age of the win7 ent installer, a lot of new dell systems are coming with usb hubs which can't properly read an external drive without the USB3 driver being manually installed during the process. Since the problem is that it can't read the USB, you can't put the drivers on the USB. My solution was to put them onto a partition on the internal drive and install them from there. Once that was done (and the installation media was in the USB on the right side, as the back would still not recognize it?), I hit the rescan and the OS installation went forward without issue.
If you want to actually solve your problem to avoid this in the future, you could potentially import the USB drivers into the bootable .wim through use of the DISM tool, but my first attempt resulted in a frozen installer so I didn't bother. I have had the same issue with a few new Optiplex towers, so it might be worth it in the future.

Dear all,
I have a Dell Latitude E5470. It is 13 months old. I'm experiencing a very annoying problem. During the last weeks, as soon as I turn on the PC, the battery led starts flashing orange, very rapidly. Once I'm in Win10, the battery icon reports that the battery charge is 5%, but it is not charging. If I try to turn on the PC without the power supply, it doesn't start at all, as any battery is pugged in.
I tried several solutions I read and found on the forum (remove/add the Microsoft ACPI, turn off the PC and remove the battery, update the BIOS, etc.) but none of these succeded.
The BIOS says that the battery is plugged in, but there is a "communication error" so that the status of the battery cannot be identified, whilst the power supply is correctly identified (it reports "90W"). The ePSA diagnosis ends up with an "ePSA 4300-19 - Alert" that says: "Battery - The battery is not installed" and "Error code: 2000-0131".
Honestly I'm running out of ideas other than send the PC to the assistance: that means tens of days of inactivity...

I have enabled "DragLock" on my Latitude E7470, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Selecting and dragging behavior is exactly the same with it on as when it is off.
I'm not actually as concerned about dragging as i am about selecting - i need to select large areas of the screen.
on my Latitude E6410, i can double tap to begin drawing a box to select an area.., and when my finger gets to the edge of the track pad, I can lift my finger, move it to the center of the trackpad, and continue selecting the area. Another tap then ends the area selection.
I would like to have this behavior on my new 7470
Is there a problem with TrackLock.., or am I doing something wrong?

Hello. My month old E560 has been great until recently, when the touchpad has decided to play up on me.What happens after a while of use, the touchpad will begin not responding to my gestures, finger movements, sliding, etc. It will sporadically work for maybe a fraction of a second after, but 99% of the time when I frantically draw circles with my finger it will not respond. This proves it is NOT the touchpad completely disabling/turning off, etc. There are no issues with the trackpoint or any hardware buttons. Even right clicking with the touchpad does what it's supposed to.  This is on the most up to date version of ALP Lenovo Ultranav drivers for the e560 from the Lenovo website. I have found that uninstalling this driver (and thus using Windows' default touchpad driver) prevents Lenovo-specific multitouch features such as twofinger scrolling, and also slightly changes what the middleclick does, but at least prevents the issue of an unresponsive touchpad which is the most important feature. Usually, a quick restart solves this issue. But after the computers shut down and started up again after a while of being off, the issue will occur again. I am running Windows 10 home 64 bit with, as said, the most recent Lenovo-issued ALPS Ultranav driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

A:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

I have an Acer Aspire One D250 with a synaptics touchpad bought on March 20th which hasn't given me any problems till 3 days ago.

Friday, when I turned the computer on, the touchpad wasn't working. I tried Fn+F7 and nothing. The usual synaptics animated icon wasn't beside the clock. I went to the control panel>mouse>device settings and no device was listed there, while all the options were greyed out. I went to system>device manager and no "Mouse and other pointing devices" was listed. I went to Acer.pt (I'm from portugal) and downloaded the driver and installed it. Saturday was spent going to the store where I bought the netbook and trying to find a solution. Just as when I was going to give the netbook to warranty, a guy turned the computer on and the touchpad was magically working again.

I went home, all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.

We use a script in SCCM OS Deployment to assign PC name based on a WMI query of the BIOS SerialNumber.  This works for all of our earlier models, but not on the E5470 so the resulting PC name is MININT-something and it has to be manually changed.  Once the OS deployment is finished, running a WMI query from the command line (wmic get bios serialnumber) properly returns the value that should have been detected during the OS deployment.
Any ideas as to why this not working on the E5470?

A:Latitude E5470 Audio controller none in BIOS

Hi lw2525,
When you say no audio controller in BIOS, are you referring to the Device Information section under System Information? If so, can you try entering the diagnostics (press and hold Fn whilst powering the system on) and running the speaker test? If there is no sound from that, it's not looking too good I'm afraid.
All I could then suggest is to try updating the BIOS:

At my employer we have experienced several issues with the TPM disappearing from device manager.
This causes us to not be able to reactivate bit-locker.
We would image the device with Windows 7 Enterprise.
We have had this happen with several machines that did and did not have windows updates processed.
Same with Dell drivers and BIOS processed and not processed.
I have run HWINFO tool and it lists the TPM with a memory address of something like 0000FED4000 yet I cannot find that in device manager or msinfo32.
I have went in to the BIOS and turned off the TPM and turned it back on and activated it.
I have reloaded the BIOS firmware.
If we re-image the laptops the TPM shows up in the device manager as expected so I do not believe this to be a problem with the motherboard.
Oddly enough though we have had motherboards replaced and the TPM shows up.
I don't feel that replacing the motherboard is the solution to this issue as we can restore functionality with a re-image or reload of the OS from scratch. But that doesn't satisfy the risk of the issue rearing its head again.
I have searched for weeks to find a solution to this problem but I have come up short.
I am certain others are having this issue.
With all the drivers processed and windows updates processed it does not resolve the issue.
What do you think I am missing?

I thank you for taking the time to review this.

Hello Everyone!I bought an open box Dell Latitude E5470 today at a very cheap price. Unfortunately this laptop had a non backlit keyboard and a TN (1600 x 900) panel but it had the much needed 6300HQ, so I went ahead and bought it thinking that I can always buy a backlit keyboard later from aliexpress. I looked at aliexpress again today and noticed something I had overlooked before purchasing the laptop and that is that all backlit keyboards available for E5470 have a different shape thanks to the two stupid top mouse buttons that are not present in my variant of E5470. I now have to find a new top panel with frame that has the cutout for those two extra mouse buttons. This is a nasty situation for me as I am not even sure if the required top panel will be compatible with my variant of E5470. Any advise on what I should do?
