Lenovo Twist Keyboard Ribbon Cable Connectors

Q: Lenovo Twist Keyboard Ribbon Cable Connectors

Hi All,
I have a Lenovo Twist laptop. I spilled coffee all over the keyboard ruining it. I took the keyboard out to replace it and broke the thin black clips that hold the ribbon cables to the motherboard. Everyone I spoke with winced when I told them what I was looking for and I cannot find them anywhere on the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Its the longer of the 2 clips. Maybe a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch black clip, really thin and small.

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It might be hard to find the exact clips for the Lenovo. Have you considered just taping or hot gluing the cable in place?

Hello,It looks like my Lenovo Y50 Full HD NON-TOUCH video ribbon cable is dead.  My screen used to give me a rainbow colour blast time to time, and I had to wobble it up and down for a couple of inches each way to make the image come back. With the time, I had to increase the range of "wobbling" by moving the screen panel all the way from closed position to wide open to spot the very exact position when the image would be displayed properly. If I would touch the screen even a bit, rainbow would come back and I had to play the "wobbling" game again. Finally, one day it because pitch black. "Wobbling" did not help anymore . I guess the ribbon cable finally came to its end. At the same time, external monitor connected to HDMI works no problem. I decided to buy a ribbon cable replacement. Replaced the old one. Did not work.  Still pitch black. I consulted a technician guy and he told me that I bought a wrong replacement cable. When I compared my original and replacement cables, they looked identical. Part numbers are also the same. Except one thing: Original:ZIVY2 LVDS CABLE NON TSDC02001YQ00REV:1.0HONG-LIN (NE) 14/07/15 Replacement:ZIVY2 LVDS CABLE NON TSDC02001YQ00REV:1.0HONG-LIN (CQQS) 15/09/22 (Screenshots attached) The only thing, which is different, is:Original: HONG-LIN (NE) / Replacement HONG-LIN (CQQS)  The question is ? does it make any dif... I would like to leave the second connection free to add the "slave" temporarily and hook the CD-ROM to the second controller.

Hi All; I'm trying to get into the BIOS without any success. According to an HP ?Read-This-First!?, publication 746074-B21, I must connect the monitor to the VGA display port on the back panel. Unfortunately, I don't have a VGA display port on my back panel ? I have two serial ports connectors... I've found the VGA 16-pin motherboard connector and figure that I need to connect a VGA ribbon cable to it to get BIOS POST screen. The standard motherboard ribbon cable (16-pin to 15-pin VGA port) won't fit. The 16-pin motherboard side of this cable I need a either a laptop, thin client, or HP propriety cable to fit the 18mm by 5mm motherboard connector. So, can anyone tell where to get these cables, or what they are called so I can do a search, or the HP part number so I can order it from HP? Any assistance would be appreciated; Thanks, Norm

I've scoured the net for any evidence that ribbon cables can adapt to USB, but have not found any yet...so I was wondering if there is an "easy"* way to accomplish such a task? Thanks for reading.

*"easy" meaning splicing/soldering only...

A:Adapting a Ribbon Cable to USB

Are you talking about adapting a device that uses a ribbon cable interface like an ATA hard drive to use USB -or- make a USB cable out of ribbon cable?

The first case will need a bit more than just splicing and soldering. An ATA to USB converter would need a bit of active electronics.

The second case would not work except for maybe a very short length of a couple of inches. A standard USB cable has a shielded twisted pair for the data lines that has a specific impedance characteristics and the two power lines may use heavier gauge wire than the data lines.

Hello there,

'tis my 1st post on this forum.

I'd like to know if an IDE 80 pin (standard flat ribbon) is oriented. That is, is there a technical reason for the blue end to plug on the controller, the middle connector on the slave device and the end one on the master device (although I understand why you shouldn't leave the end one loose).

Some techie told me NO. The one at the next shop told me YES, for there were two different speeds (uploading and downloading).

The bottom line is: usually the two devices (master & slave) are sitting very near one of the other, whereas the controller is farther. And since I have yet to see a middle connector sitting exactly in the middle of the cable, I'd like to know if I can plug the blue (motherboard) end on the device. Also, does the device type (HDD or CD) make a difference?

I would of course enjoy the technical explanation as much as the answer. Thank you.

A:IDE 80 pin flat ribbon cable: oriented?

Everything I have read says blue end to motherboard.

As far as where you plug device's as far as I know it only matters if your using cable select mode. If you jumper the drives master and slave then it doesn't matter which connector there connected to.

At least my opinion

In cable select mode the end connector is master, the middle connector is slave.

Hi, I'm planning to replace the ribbon cable for the monitor on my IdeaPad Y510P, because my screen experiences constant flickering horizontal bars which get a bit better if I squeeze the bezel. I was wondering if there's some kind of part ID/number for this ribbon cable so I can buy it online? And also can I easily replace this myself? Not too hardware-savvy, I did manage to remove the bezel and reconnect the ribbon cable following youtube earlier, so if that's all it involves then should be no problem. If it involves diassembling the entire backside then I'll probably run into issues. Thanks.

Most modern motherboards no longer feature legacy connectors such as PATA. You have a couple of choices here. Either use a SATA/PATA bi-directional adapter (probably the cheapest option, but not guaranteed to work correctly), or replace the drive with one that comes with the SATA interface (recommended)

Does anyone know where to buy a PCIe x1 riser cable where the connectors on end are mounted on a right angle to the cable? My motherboard only has two PCIe slots, with the x1 slot being right next to the x16 slot. I have a graphics card plugged into the x16 slot and like most cards, the heatsink and fan cover up the x1 slot, making it impossible to use that slot for anything. There exist riser cables that you can plug into a PCIe slot and then plug a card into the other end, however all the cables I can find have the connectors mounted straight on the end of the cable, which causes the same problem as trying to use a card in the slot, namely that the graphics card is in the way. Additionally, my motherboard is short, so there are two slots in the case below the bottom of the board. One of these slots would be perfect for mounting a card on the end of a cable, but if the connector isn't on a right angle, it won't fit. I've seen pictures of such a cable, but I've never found anywhere to buy one. I'd like to add a USB 3.0 card to this system. PCIe x1 cards go for less than $20. A standard PCI card (I have two free PCI slots) costs about $60 and won't give full performance because of the limitation of the PCI standard. A PCIe card and a riser cable with right angle connectors would solve the problem perfectly. I could get a x16 riser cable for the graphics card, but it would have to be long enough to go over any USB 3.0 card I might add. Since the cables ... Read more

Well I just looked at some new sound cards today and I have to say -

[RANT]OMFG how many more audio 3.5 mini-jacks will I have to plug into the back of my PC?

I say they take some other connector type and make it so all audio goes through 1 cable. Heck they can even overload the cable with a few extra not currently used lines for "future upgradability".

What are your thoughts on changing the hardware setup to something a little simpler -

Hi,

Recently the ribbon cable on the underside of the DVD-RW drive keeps catching in the drawer and is becoming mangled. I have to carefully thread it back in with the drawer to stop it being squished.

So far the drive is functioning correctly but the ribbon needs replaced as it will not return to its former unkinked shape.

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a replacement ribbon for this drive? The number printed on the cable is type:

I can't find any for sale. Is there an equivalent? Should I buy a reconditioned DVD-RW instead (a new one is too expensive). I have no clue about ribbon cables!

Sony and Pioneer were unable to help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a HP Split X2 Model 13-m110dx.  I replaced the LCD/Digitizer assembly, which required I remove all hardware from the display assembly.  My question focuses on the cable that connects the motherboard to the audio/HDMI/Dock board (item 7 on page 17 of http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03958968.pdf).  The cable of interest is the left one (with a 45 degree bend in it), and how it connects at either end.  A pic is below with the cable (yellow/gold). My question:  Is this a ZIF connector or do I need to lift up the front to release it?  A portion of the gray part of the connector broke off when I tried to lift it, assuming it was a clamp style ribbon cable connector.  The other end of the cable connects to the Motherboard with the same type connector.  I pulled that one out, but it's unclear if that is damaged if I did that wrong. Problem:  The HP Upgrade/Parts manual doesn't define how to disconnect these cables.  After reassembly, the keyboard/dock no longer connects, so what I have now is a standalone tablet w/o any USB ports or keyboard.  I ordered a new audio board in the hopes that resolves the issue. Anyone have any input on this?

Should I have a main connection panel in garage and then feed indivudal cable to each room?

Thanks

Doug

I get a bit jittery when I'm unplugging cable connectors (these images are just examples, I'm thinking of all types of connectors). What's the best way to safely unplug them?, pull from the cables or from the plastic case. What's your experience?. This pics are just a few examples of connectors. I'm posting this thread about any type of connectors. Thank you.

Many simply pull apart. Watch out for the ones with locking tabs though. I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you take your time.

I bought a new keyboard for my L502x because the old one was beginning to wear out, and I noticed that on the motherboard the connector for the backlight ribbon cable was completely missing the little hinge that locks the cable in place. It wasn't broken, just missing. I have a photo attached, it's a bit blurry but you can clearly see that the little white connector at the top has no locking hinge.

Is there no way to get this fixed outside of just buying a new motherboard? My model was a refurbished one and did not come with a backlit keyboard to begin with, but I heard people say that the connector was there...and yet it still has no option of locking the cable in place, which is very frustrating.
(The keyboard does work regardless, I'm just mildly annoyed that I can't use the backlight)

Stupid question but I have to ask, was the connector there when you took off the old keyboard?  Maybe it somehow got stuck on the old keyboard ribbon cable?  If its the white connector i'm thinking of, if its gone its gone and I don't know of any replacement.  You could try electrical tape to hold it in, just so you can have your backlight working.
