I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello HP Team & Community, I've been using this laptop for about half a year now, never had a problem with the detachable keyboard before. I think it was even charging correctly before when I first installed Ubuntu on the machine. After that, I started trying out differet Linux OS's but came back to Ubuntu in the end. My issue is that the keyboard is not charging anymore, rendering it useless. I attach it to the laptop but the little orange light doesn't come on. I've looked over some other issues regarding the keyboard not working, the replies from the HP Team varied, and none of them specifically addressed Linux users having the issue... My guess is that I'm missing a driver for the keyboard... Is there any way to confirm this? Does HP have an Ubuntu equivalent of the HP Assistant? I'd really like to start using the keyboard again. I already tried asking at askubuntu.com - I received no answers. Hopefully, I'll find better luck here.

The Bluetooth connection on my keyboard goes out frequently and will fix itself in a few seconds. Last night I thought this was what was happening, but pressing the Bluetooth button (F10 key also) does nothing. I turned the keyboard on and off several times, left it attached thinking it might charge, and everything, but still it is completely unresponsive.Replacement keyboards are in the range of $200, which I can't afford. This laptop was bought refurbished. Any troubleshooting might be appreciated. Because it's refurbished, I have no idea what the warranty status is.

Forgot to include this in my post: I made the computer forget the keyboard thinking I could pair it again. It showed up for a second and said "Ready to pair" and then became unresponsive.

Everytime i try to press anything the light over the bluetooth key turns on and off, and the on/off light of the keyboard is always off until i attach it to the screen it stays on for a minute or so and then back off. Also tried pressing the bluetooth key for a bit longer it starts lighting on and off but the keyboard doesn't actually work.

I am unable to get a definative answer from any one whether of not this new 12" (not the 13") model support an external monitor.  Specs and screenshots show only USB-C ports.  Is there another port?  Can you attach one with an adaptor via the USB-C port?  A support export said he saw an HDMI port, but I suspect he was looking at at the 13" Spectre.

I have had my Spectre x2 for 6 months. In that time it has turned itself off and won't restart x 3 or 4 times; won't start when I first turn it on after being shut down, twice. It has taken from 3 to 30 minutes of trying to turn it on before it will start. When it starts (anytime) the light on the caps lock button flashes; when it won't start no light flashes-nothing happens. I don't believe this is a power issue. I read on another forum that some of these models have needed to be returned to HP for repair as there is a hardware fault.

Can any one suggest an external battery that can charge the Spectre X2 12" detachable via USB-C?

A:Spectre X2 12" detachable external battery via USB-C

I too would also like to find an external battery pack and/or cable that can charge the x2. Although the Spectre x2 has relatively poor battery life, I was willing to purchase it as it charges via USB-C and I incorrectly assumed any high-power USB charger or external battery pack would charge it. I've tried a number of USB chargers and battery packs with a Belkin USB-A to USB-C charger cable and have had no luck charging the Spectre x2.

Why HP's the odd duckIn the chart above you can see there?s one vendor with a glaring-red problem: HP with its Spectre X2. Keep in mind, I?ve updated the Spectre X2 with the latest UEFI and it still won?t work with third-party chargers. Here?s why. After speaking with HP officials about the issue, it appears the company is just playing it safe. Fearing that a counterfeit or out-of-spec charger could make the touchscreen or audio subsystem flaky, HP has limited the access non-certified chargers have to the device. For now, HP exec Mike Nash told us, only ?overnight? charging, or charging while the device is off, is supported.?Are we being too conservative?? Nash asked. ?I don?t think so.?HP is committed to USB-C?it already has four or five devices that use it for charging. The company just doesn?t believe the spec is ready for interchangeability yet.Lee Atkinson, a distinguished technologist at HP who?s been leading the effort to corral PC makers around USB-C, said the upcoming Power Delivery 3.0 spec should solve many of the outstanding issues, such as how much voltage to supply and how to control which way power flows between two devices. Atkinson said OEMs all agree it has to be done correctly and with group consensus.

To reset an X2 detachable it is only necessary to  set the keyboard into "discovery? mode: Turn off keyboard. Hold finger down on Bluetooth button until it blinks continuously.Go to device manager and select "Add Device" you should see  "keyboard (ready to pair)?Click on pair and let drivers install. The keyboard is a simple Bluetooth device.  Attach it like any other Bluetooth device.  That is what the little Bluetooth key is for.Unfortunately, HP forgot to document this and the techs get this mixed up with the notebook instructions and the tablet instructions. Happy Bluetooth-ing.

I have searched across this site and other forums and have yet to find a solid answer to this question even though numerous users are having the same issue. This keyboard has worked fine for me for about two years, but now all of a sudden it will not hold a charge.  Even after turning the keyboard off, plugging into the tablet for 24 hours, and then turning back on, the keyboard only works for about five minutes.   I can only assume that this is an issue with the power going from the tablet to the keyboard, but when trying to update any drivers related to batteries or the keyboard it says I already have the latest driver.  Please help because I'm essentially stuck with only using a tablet for a computer as of right now.

Had an issue with my detachable keyboard losing bluetooth connection.  I then noticed when I would lose this connection and go to the device manager the bluetooth adapter would not show up.  This drove me nuts because it was not always happening at any specific time but randomly.  I would have to reboot a couple of times for it to come back then all would be good until the next time.  After almost two months of this I started to catch on that it would mainly do this when I was on battery power and when I hooked up to the power cord and reboot all would be fine.  I finally found the resolution on a Lenovo web site that has cured this issue.  Haven't lost connection yet and I have even tried to make it lose connection short of shutting it off. 1) Go to the Device Manager (Windows key + X)2) Select Bluetooth and right click on your Bluetooth adapter (mine was Intel Wireless Bluetooth (R) 4.0).3) Select Power Management tab.4) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off device to save Power."5) Click on OK I tried finding this on the hp.com site but never did so it would be nice if they would post it because I am sure others are having this issue on battery power.  Mine would almost instantly lose connection as soon as I unplugged from power and went to battery power so no doubt I am not the only one with this issue.

So about a year ago, I bought a ROG Asus GL552JX (Windows 10) which came with a Cerberus Gaming Headset. This headset comes with an extension cable (I think), a cable that splits into two (mic and speaker, since the headset itself doesn't have a mic plug), and a detachable "boom" mic.

The headset has worked fine the past year, but when I never could really figure out how to use or enable/configure the boom mic to work.

Also I'd like to mention that my mic had one of those one side only problems, so I searched online and found an easy fix by switching the cords (I used the "extension" cable's cord) and it works fine again, but the mic still does not work.

Sorry if my wording is a bit off, I am not really familiar with technological terms. (if that's a thing anyway)

I realised that the spectre keyboard is designed differently from other laptop that I used.  I used Microsoft Excel for my work. When I press F2 in the excel, the formula of the affected will be highligted. Now in the spectre, when I press F2, its to adjust the brightness. To activate the excel shortcut, I would need to click fn and F2 together.  This is totally opposite in most laptop keyboard that I have used where clicking FN and F2 together is to adjust the brightness or other FN-F keys is to adjust different settings.  How can I change the setting so that when I press F2 in the Excel, it will show the formula or even F5 to refresh? while when I click other FN-F keys  it will be to adjusting such as brightness, sound and display.

Owned this laptop for about 6 months.  Since last month (January 2016), after it has gone to sleep and I wake it back up, the F5 key lights up but then goes off, and I find that I have lost my touchpad and the physical keyboard.  The screen and touch settings are fine.  At first, I could fix the problem by resetting the mouse, but this fix has stopped working.  Now I need to run "Find and Fix Problems" from the Control Panel Systems menu.  Although this always recommends re-starting the computer, I have found that I have to shut it completely down, wait several seconds, and then start it fresh (i.e., "Restart" doesn't work).  It seems to me that all this started after an automatic windows update, but I didn't capture what it was exactly at the time.  Is this something significant going wrong?  Or is there a better solution than just shutting it completely down every time I use it?

Upon arrival I updated all the drivers, ran HP assistant, and let windows update. I am looking for feedback and advice from fellow Spectre owners to see if I can get this laptop to a satisfactory condition. Here is a list of some of the problems I have encountered: This trackpad is almost unusable for me. I wish to move the cursor with one finger, then click using my other hand?s finger, but the trackpad goes into two-finger scrolling mode and rejects the click. I can click with one hand, but for rapid tasks I would like to be able to click as if there was a true button. I?ve explored all the trackpad options, and there appears to be no way to correct this. Furthermore, the trackpad seems to completely ignore clicking frequently. I can try keep trying to click and nothing will happen. The keyboard seems to stick when the buttons haven?t been pressed in a while. Especially the tab, control, shift, and space bar. There is an extremely loud snap/crunch when these buttons are pressed for the first time, after which they remain quiet. This is quite embarrassing. I haven?t seen anyone reporting this issue.Trackpad is loose, it wobbles, and makes excessive noise. I have seen the electrical tape modificat... Read more

I was able to fix the Synaptics icon removal from the task bar. The problem was actually that none of the settings would remain after a restart (didn't notice until later). The fix was to change a registry value as follows:  Open up regedit.exe Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install Note this is LOCAL MACHINE, not CURRENT USER. Look for a key in that Install folder called DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade Double click and change the value to 0  Source: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-10-synaptics-touc...

My hp spectre is less than two years old. The past 3 days the keyboard has been malfunctioning. A full disc cleanup resolved the issue at first and gave me back a fully functioning keyboard. When I opened my laptop tonight all of the keys between a and enter did not work, besides the letters g and h. I ran a scan and received the failure id: U4QKMQ-7QP8HU-MFPWMF-G06C03 I have tried every single solution in the guided tutorial given by HP support and tried upgrading the BIOS, nothing works. My product ID is K6C19AV

I recently bought a HP Spectre x360 - 13-4159nd and I noticed when switching the laptop into tablet mode, no virtual keyboard shows up. In the settings I've turned on the option to Optimise Windows when the device is being used as a tablet, but this just switches the screen to tablet mode while I'm still using it in laptop mode. The option is also automatically turned off again, when switching between different modes. In the settings -> devices -> typing the option to automatically show the screen keyboard when no physical keyboard is attached to the device is turned on. Is there any way to solve the problem of the missing virtual keyboard? tl;dr: No virtual keyboard when using tablet mode, optimise function doesn't work and option to show screen keyboard when no physical keyboard is attached is on.
