I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just had a most unpleasant experience with Windows 10, I would like to find out how to prevent it from happening in the future. I was in the middle of typing up a long album description in Picasa when Windows decided to just reboot to install updates. There was no option to postpone the update until I had finished typing. Admittedly I had previously deferred Win10 from updating (also because I was in the middle of doing something), but I think it's unacceptable to just quit and reboot itself without presenting the user with an option to cancel or do it later. Here is a screencap of my Windows update settings. Thank you.

My 3 year old Inspiron 7537 (Service tag: 56H5812) w/ Windows 8, which until this time had been 100% problem free recently would not turn on. I would press the power button and nothing would happen (even w/ AC adapter plugged in)- even the charging indicator would not turn on. This was the case even when I tried using a friend's charger. I left the system pluggged in for a few hours and it eventually began to charge and has since been turning on reliably w/ either battery or AC adapter power.
The bigger problem is that since this time the LCD does not display any image at any time- not even a very faint one. Interestingly enough, the HDMI output still works fine (currently typing this w/ the laptop plugged into my TV). Also, the touchscreen somehow continues to work flawlessly. I.e when the laptop is plugged into my TV if I touch center of the (blank/dark) laptop screen it shows up on the TV as that part of the screen being touched.
My immediate reaction to these issues was to check for updates. I performed all available Windows updates and then I logged onto the dell website and used System Detect and the "detect drivers" options to find appropriate drivers and updates for my machine. A BIOS update was identified (7537A14.exe, A14).
I have spent hours trying to update the BIOS but keep getting either an "ERROR: Unknown or invalid AC & DC power condition." This happens with the AC adapter plugged in (including when I use my friend's). It persis... Read more

My notebook is around a year old and in good condition - a few days ago the keyboard completely stopped working. I went through a lot of fixes and troubleshooting, and some of the symptoms really don't match what i am seeing online. For starters, the majority of the time it will not accept an external (USB) keyboard. Also, in order to be able to enter my password with a USB keyboard i have to boot the computer whilst holding Shift and Enter. Now the keyboard is being extremely temperemental, it isn't useable. Certain keys will occasionally work but not correctly, for example the 'T' key will operate TAB. So far i have done a full system restore, i have removed the battery and held the power button for around a minute, i have updated the keyboard driver and reinstalled it. I've been trying these things in different orders for the past 2 days and i'm not making any progress. The computer hasn't been in contact with any moisture, it hasn't been dropped.  The next step i am considering is updating the BIOS - i have no knowledge of this and wondered if this was an appropriate thing to do? Thanks for reading!

A:Notebook Keyboard not working - Bios Update?

Rturner9314 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! You don't say what Model laptop you have, but my guess is that it did NOT come with Win10 preinstalled.  Is that right? And if so, did it come with Win7 preinstalled or Win8x? Asking because MS recently pushed out their Anniversary Update and, as evidenced by LOTS of postings on the Win10 community forum, and here, that has been causing serious problems with folks whose Upgraded PCs worked fine with the older versions of Win10 (i.e., 10240, 10587) but not with this new version (14393).We can proceed once you provide the answers. And NO, a BIOS update is NOT going to address this problem; plus, unless you have a very new PC, there is no BIOS update available for it.Thanks

Hello,I've been trying to reach you guys on twitter, facebook and no one replied. My laptop suddenly shut off yesterday after the sound system started not to work, later on, I tried turning the computer on with results of the display was not showing anything as the on button and keyboard light button indicates that it is on, so, I went online to check on all sorts of reboots and try them on, I stumbled across the BIOS reboot and it worked, but, now all it does is that it kept on repeating the same thing at the first stage of rebooting whenever I turn on my computer. I thought that I should leave it for couple hours if it'd work, but all it does was looping the process again and again. Can anyone please just fix this problem? ASAP? This is my only computer for uni and it's starting soon.Thanks,Jessica.

A lot more information will be needed:
                          Machine Make & Model
Operating System (even though BIOS comes ahead of that, it can be useful)
BIOS version you had before and the one you attempted to upgrade to
Source for the BIOS file you used to upgrade
This will also belong on another forum, but having the above might help to decide which one.

Hi there,

I uninstalled Intel Smart Connect Technology after experiencing a BSOD that seemed to be caused by a related driver. When the uninstallation tool asked if I wanted to restart now/later, I chose to restart now, which was followed by another BSOD.

Now I can boot into Windows just fine but neither my mouse or my keyboard are working. They work in the BIOS but as soon as Windows is loaded, they stop functioning. I've tried resetting my CMOS but this did not solve the problem. I've also checked that they are enabled in the BIOS.

I would try a system restore but Windows 8 doesn't seem to allow me to boot into repair mode without actually going into Windows first, but I can't do it from Windows because of my malfunctioning peripherals.

I can't use the Windows 8 installation disc to repair because as soon as the message that says "Press any key to continue" comes up, my keyboard stops working. However, it seems I can force the PC to boot from the CD which after a bit of a wait gets me to the Windows installation screen, with my only option being to completely reinstall Windows.

I'd like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have alternate solutions?

Edit: Obviously I cannot post the minidump files so I'm sorry for not following the posting rules to the letter :S
Edit2: I am able to enter Windows Repair Mode with the Installation disc, but there is no option for Safe Mode and when I attempt to System Restore, I get this error message: "To use System Res... Read more

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Try starting the system and then shutting it down by using the power button to turn it off.
Try it 3 times and see if that will allow you to get into the repair options.at

What happens when you reboot and look for the option to select an operating systems?
What other options do you have for the repair/restore/reset/refresh?

Hi guys,

This is gonna be a long story, so sorry in advance. I bought 2 Alienware Aurora R4 PC's on sale 2nd hand. They were bought but never used by a company I have connections to, so it's not the newest one, but 2-3 years ago. I also got a spare R4 from them, because that one doesn't work so I used it for spare parts. I have 3 R4 in total and 2 of them work. I sold one to my friend and he has been using it for over a year now, but he started to get a lot of blue screens lately. With different error codes.
These are the codes he is getting:
STOP 50/0A/D1/3B/FC/1A (kk pc - Album on Imgur)

Things I've tried:
Swapping video card and RAM with the spare R4 (What are the chances all components are faulty)
Used Advanced Systemcare to clean it (new to this program)
A friends is saying the motherboard should be faulty because the errors are all over the place. Can you guys help me and see if this is the case, maybe have me run tests to see if it's faulty.

My HP Envy was purchased in May 2016 (by my employer) and has been problematic from the start. I constantly check for updates and always run them when available. When I run multiple programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, Skype) it is likely that my computer will freeze as some point. This freezing used to resolve itself, so I could go back to work. I would see the classic spinning cursor, leave it alone for a minute or two, and then things would right themselves. However, for the last month the freezing has become very different. Instead of the familiar spinning cursor, the computer now simply freezes, and I can only use my computer if I force shut down. Every time I do this I've lost about 20-30 minutes worth of work. This has also happened a few times while I've been on Skype calls with colleagues - suddenly they are cut off. Has anyone else had this happen? What can I do?

Check bios entries for boot order and disable PXE (network) boot. Also run diagnostics on HDD while in BIOS and check to see if HDD problems show up.Last - if no hard drive issue is present, and your computer says no system disk present you may have an issue with Windows OS or the boot loader it uses. Boot from Windows DVD or EasyBCD emergency disk to repair any issues with the Windows boot loader.Good luckCB

After successfully updating my BIOS with the latest from HP I completely borked the BIOS by fiddling around with the settings. Push 'power on' 6 long beeps no video. Then a thought came back from the dim recesses of my mind from the dawn of time...that is about 5 years ago. I carefully(!) pulled the side cover of the machine and extra carefully removed the CMOS Battery (CR2032) and let it sit for 5 minutes. Reassemble, power on, successful boot. Remember this trick so you can tell your great-grandchildren...no wait they'll be quantum computing by telepathy...hmm.

thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
thanks again

ps. i just found this

if that is any help.

A:help with updating bios. cannot find bios upgrade - 6A69RPRDC-00

Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)

I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).

You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
Try WWW.driverguide,com

You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.

otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellie P750 (less than a year old) running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I've been struggling to fix my computer for 3 days and have no idea what caused the problem.

Here is the most recent issue:

My computer (finally) gave me the Repair Computer option after pressing F8 (presumably from my DVD-RW).

1. Startup Repair found no problems.
2. Computer still says it contains no restore points.
3. Ran the memory check--no issues found. However, after it was done and I logged in, it came up with a blue screen and a new error code:

STOP: c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I was just trying to restore my computer from my WD Passport, but it doesn't show up as an option when I plug it into the USB port to find a system image from an external drive.

(My Passport did back up a ton of data--I don't have enough know-how to understand if I can use it to restore in this way.)

Please advise me how to proceed! I really appreciate the help.

Day 2:

Previous Issues, Attempted Solutions, and Important Info:

Windows 7 would not start/run normally. I'm not sure how to repair / restore it or which one I should do.

1. Windows 7 will permit me to login normally. However, after login, I can only see a blank, black screen with a normal-size cursor. No task bar, no de... Read more

Should I update the 9300M GS in my notebook? Nvidia does state to use OEM drivers first, but the newest drivers available are from Nvidia's website. Seeing as I don't play too many games, should I update the card along with DirectX or leave it?

A:Updating notebook drivers

If you don't play games just leave it, especially if notebook is working OK. That's my opinion.
Recently, I updated the ATI driver in my second lappy just to find out it doesn't work like it should and I have to roll everything back to the previous one.

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Every day now for over two weeks, my auto update advises me that the update is ready for Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474). I keep updating and it says I'm successful and then pops up again the next day.

It won't leave me alone.

The updates have always said 'successful'--never had an error message. And the update is listed in my programs. I tried downloading it directly from the site, and it still wants to install the same update. I tried another forum, and had no luck.

Can anyone help?

How do I stop updating dates of files saved previously. When I open previous files, date automatically updates in my MSoffice 2007.How can I stop that ?

A:How do I stop updating dates.

Are you talking about Created, Modified dates in File properties or some date formulas on the Excel sheet?

Have you tried changing properties of this file to make it Read-only?
You could also archive this file into a zip file (Right click - Send to compressed folder). You would have to undo these options if you would ever want to edit it again though.
