Q: Unable to start programmes and unable to restart

So sometime I get this weird condition, where I am unable to open any programmes, even task manager will not open. When this happens, I am also unable to shutdown or restart the PC. The only way to solve this is to push the reset button and after the reboot windows runs normally again until the next time it happens. Does someone know what could be causing this? I attached the debug files and my system specs are current.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I've been googling and browsing forums for the last several hours and have not found my exact error.

The only time I'm getting the error svchost.exe unable to start error 0xc0000142 error is when I'm trying to shutdown and reboot. Windows 7 will force a restart, and after a while will eventually close the error window (x'ing out of it does not work, nor does clicking ok), and reboot, and all seems fine otherwise, but it's beginning to really bug me. I've tried just about all the fixes suggested, and have cleaned and recleaned my registry and run other diagnostics, and everything looks okay.

Any suggestions?

I've recently started to experience problems with my eMachines E525 (Intel Celeron (R) CPU 900 @ 2.20Ghz, 2.00GB Ram, 150Gb, Vista Home Basic) when I try to open a programme.

If I attempt to open an existing programme on my machine or, having downloaded a new one, I get an 'Open With' box with a selection of icons that I can choose from or a lower portion of the box allows me to search and browse my machine for programmes to use to open my choice with. Even then it's hit and miss.

At first it was annoying but only applied to a few programmes. Now it's everything and certain programmes iTunes,Spotify won't open at all. I have tried System Restore and CCleaner.
I've even bought a System Recovery Disc but to no avail.
I'm at the stage of wondering if I need to buy another copy of Vista?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thankyou

I would be obliged if anyone can offer any advice on a problem I am having with my PC running windows XP home edition.
Basically when I try to open a number of utilities or programmes all I get is the egg timer appear and nothing else happens - ie no error messages.
I am unable to open any of my administrator tools apart from data sources.
I cannot open disk defrag, add /remove programmes or device manager.
Also Photoshop 7 or CS will not open although Illustrator will.

Using the run command I managed to run disk defrag although it made no difference.
I have also run Spy bot and Trend Micro virus scan as well as system restore although this for some reason only went back one month and made no difference.
I have recently installed service pack 2, but am not sure if the problem pre-dated this problem.
I have considered inserting my XP disk and selecting the repair option but am unsure if this would delete any of my files.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Yesterday afternoon, my PC went haywire (Quite understandable some might say)

Quite a number of "quick launch" ikons as well as several ikons on the desktop failed to open normally.

When I clcked on the buttons to open them, each one just displayed a page of hundreds of lines of odd letters and characters, just pure gobbledegook,

It happens when I try to open MS Word, Word pad, Google Earth, Logitech Webcam and even Norton 360 anti virus.

Unable to use "System restore" because I get a similar jumble of leters and characters when trying to open.

Hoping that somebody has previously encountered such a problem, and even more importantly remembers what the solution was.

I do know that a brand new PC would solve the problem, but with that would come the tedious task of re-installing countless programmes.

Does anybody have any suggestions please !

I've just tried to download the TSG SysIno for my PC but that also shows up as line after line of meaningless charaacters and letters

I have tried the HP assistant as I am having problems trying to run some programmes such as BBCiplayer. The assistant is absolutely useless and appears to be a money spinner as all it ever tells me is that it can't download HP updates and I must call the tech services, a service I cannot afford.Why is is that this laptop only bought new in June this year will not download HP updates nor run basic Iplayer, it keeps telling me a basic part is missing and then refuses to download the missing programme or stops the installation. Why is this HP laptop unable to download HP updates and why must I pay out extra for a service I should not need if the machine worked as it should.

For several years I have been using Readerware software to catalogue my books, videos and music CDs without the slightest hitch or problem. Today, out of the blue, I find myself unable add information in the appropriate fields of the programmes by a simple cut & paste. I have done this hundreds of times.

I am not able to open Add or Remove programme as it gives me an error :-

Windows Cannot Find ' c:\windows\system32\rundl32.exe' make sure you typed the name currently.

Tried opening it from my computer and control panel still did not work.

Hello there,

Okay, let me start you off from saying that i have NOT got a genuin Microsoft windows and i, for some unknown reason, enabled Updates for my windows. I was told not to do this because it's not genuin and there is no need. I did this and i installed certain things and now i am unable to access msn, see pictures in Picture Manager, Play online games such as Lord Of The Rings Online. I believe i installed updates that have overlapped what i originally had and... well lets put it this way... currupted it?

So i got help from a friend and he gave me a programme that would change my microsoft windows code to a different one automatically which would then make my windows Genuin. I did this and i installed the Genuin Notification programme from the updates to see if it was now genuin or not, it worked and it's now genuin.

Still had problems, so i uninstalled .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from add and remove programmes, when i did this, this got rid of other microsoft programmes such as what would be shown with .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 in the add and remove programmes.

I went to the Microsoft Update site and installed .NET Framework 2.0 still problems so i thought, lets look at another computer in the house and see what its got, so i looked and it showed .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. Hi everyone,

I've been having some trouble with Windows 7. I find that when I'm playing games such as Warcraft or Steam games and I minimize the window to do some stuff on my desktop, I am unable to maximize the window when I try to get back into the game.

What happens is when I click on the icon in the task bar, the usual animation occurs and it seems like the game is coming back on. But just when the game should reappear, it goes back to being minimized and I'm back in windows.

At first I wasn't that affected by it, but it gets rather irritating especially when you're midway in a game but you need to do something on the net or messenger. If anyone has any ideas, please help me out.

I noticed my BitDefender was not running and sent an email to the company.  They sent me back a response that the licensing code was not valid (after two years) and they had disabled the software (without notifying me).  I downloaded AVAST and immediately started having lots of problems such as unable to shut down, screens freezing.  I unstalled, but the problems continued.  I did a system restore back to the installation of AVAST, but stil having problems  I purchased a new BitDefender, but it will not install.  I tried updating Windows Security Essentials, but it will not install.  I think something has hijacked my internet as it does not come on for a few minutes after I start the computer.  I am unable to start in safe mode to try to install that way.  Please help!

Hello. Just bought an emachines d620 with vista basic. To make it a little 'lighter' I uninstalled some programmes and replaced with some others. Having made these changes I now cannot uninstall anything else. I try to uninstall via 'control panel' then 'programmes and features'. But after clicking on 'uninstall a programme', in top left hand corner of window appears 'programmes and features not responding'. The changes I made up until the problem occured were:
Deleted Adobe reader and replaced with Foxit Reader.
Deleted Norton Antivirus and replaced with MSSE, Malwarebytes and Spywareblaster.
Hope you can help and that the problem is not serious!

Help my Laptop Studio 1555 seems to have a virus although McAfee is currently enabled and has not detected it. I can not access the internet or certain programmes. All the advice sites so far tell me to download programmes but as I can't get on the internet this is impossible. I also get constant popups from it claiming to be an antivirus and it clearly isn't because it is asking for payments. I don't think it is legitimate.
Is there any way of rebooting my laptop or equivalent in order to remove it. I am a beginner go easy and please explain simply.

Since yesterday it seems I have some mallware.
I have managed to run the Kaspersky TDSS Killer (advice from forums), found something, rebooted.
I have quickly installed AVG Internet Security (trial period) , Mallwarebytes AntiMalware Pro (trial period) .
Now I have scanned with all of these and again with TDSS Killer , and all of them report nothing.
But I am not able to download anything, all my downloads are deleted for virus reasons directly in the browser (IE9). I think that Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Defender are corrupted, because I cannot start any of them, but I think one of them is blocking my downloads. Also my Windows Action Center reports that "Potentially harmfull software detected, but the "Clean" button does nothing.
All of this is happening with AVG and Malwarebytes active.... and no reaction ... so.... need some help

After a lot of reading, I have managed to solve this with Hitman Pro and then RogueKiller.
The only thing that is not working is Windows Defender. I can click it in the Control Panel, the service is stopped, but when I hit "Start Now" to reactivate it I get "the specified service does not exist as an insltaled service (code 0x80070424).

When I try to restart Win 7 (64bit) I get this error message from apache.exe or mysqladmin.exe like this

Question Re: XPS 8700 with Windows 8.1.  if computer is no longer able to boot into Windows.
And Restore is not able to correct issue. 
And Refresh is unable to correct issue.
But Dell Backup and Recovery indicates no issues were found and now asks to Reinstall Operating System.
is Installation Restore/Original Image Media required to complete the Reinstallation usind Dell Backup and Recovery?
Alternatively if the Reset My PC option is used is Installation media required?

Yesterday when I tried to turn my laptop - an Acer Timeline - on it would not switch on at all, no lights came on and the screen remained black. I left it for about an hour and when I tried to turn it on this time, it said "Windows was unable to start..." The options it gave me were safe mode or an option to try and go repair it. I clicked the second option and after checking the laptop, it asked if I would like to restore it to an earlier point in time so I clicked yes. It starts to load and then completely shuts down. This has happened several times. Now when I try and turn it on either the same thing happens or the lights come on to indicate there is power but the screen remains blank.
I didn't have any problems before this point as far as I know.
I would be extremely grateful for any help or suggestions? Really not technically savvy at all, I'm afraid.

A few days ago, my HP Pavilion X2 10-n011ca, which has been upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago, did an automatic Windows update.When I turned the computer on the next morning, it ran a disk scan, PC diagnostic, and then came up with a BSOD entitled Automatic Repair...Your PC did not start properly.  The error message given is that a Critical Process died.  I have gone through the advanced options, trying safe mode start, Reset this PC, using the HP Recovery Manager to run an SFC scan through a DOS prompt, and all of the Advanced options.Unfortunately, my computer does not seem to have a Restore point.  I have always assumed that Windows Update creates one automatically before it updates.No matter what I do, the computer continues to restart only to come up to the same BSOD.  I have restarted the computer dozens of times trying all of the options listed above.I have a backup of the critical personal data, but I really hope I don't have to reinstall programs as some of them are a ROYAL pain to get installed, requiring several updates, etc.From my research, it would seem the last Windows update changed a driver that is now preventing my computer from starting up. Is there someway to refresh the Windows 10 OS without having to wipe the drive and start over? If I have to resort to that, I understand I need a Windows product key, but there does not seem to be a label on the computer or orginal packaging to give that information.  How do I fin... Hey Ken, Here is what I recommend.  Create a bootable Win10 disk here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/ Boot from that disk and repair the OS.  You won't need a product key since Win10 was already activated for your PC.  You'll lose your installed apps unfortunately. -wes

Basically I get the error message, and in like 10 seconds my screen goes white and thats the end of it. It either eventually shuts itself down or I just plug it out. The computer has been doing this for about a week. I just used my laptop now. I downloaded HiJackThis on the computer and it give it error messages when it tries to scan certain files or registry keys, what ever it is.

Hi guys!

Today I was working in a Corel program, and got a message that my computer was shutting down in xx seconds, don't remember the exact number. After this, I turned it back on and got this message "unable to launch restart.exe". Everything works except internet-based applications, the "search" function, and "add/remove programs". I am running McAfee (I know how ya'll love Mc!). I'm Windows XP.

Can't get to net to download anything; don't know how to proceed. Please help, and thanks so much!!
I can get to here on my laptop, but I prefer using my desktop and would love to get it going again.

I dont know where to post my question. MY operating system in windows xp. My antivirus, malware, firewall are all through earthlink protection control center. It seems daily I get the same error message, "Unable to launch restart.exe. After getting this message my computer will not perform any other tasks. reconnect to the internet or simply open a file on the desktop. The only i can do it shut the computer down and then restart. I am getting tired or this error, causing me to waste time on downloads that fail. Can someone please help me get rid of this problem. thank you.

For whomever is out there, I have a problem concerning my computer's ability to restart/ turn off. The thing is, I noticed something strange last night with the computer last night. The first main concern was a windows security 2012 rogue virus trying to take control of my computer. I noticed that when I shut down the computer, the screen turned off as normal, but the cpu kept its green light and was still running. I had to hold down the power button to force turn it off. Fortunately, I used this link from this site to take care of the rogue:

Note that I did not use rkill or do a followup after running Malwarebytes. Plus, I receive a random pop-up maybe once per hour.I am also hearing a random doink sound that you would normally hear when clicking at an unavailable partwhen not even doing anything with the computer.
But anyways, I now have full control of my programs and internet and stuff, Which is good. But, all is not completely ressolved. I have to still deal with the problem which I believed was accompanied by the rogue at first, which was not being able to restart or fully turn off my CPU without forcing it off. I don't know why this is happening. Can someone tell me what the deal is and can it be ressolved internally or will it require repairs from a technician. Please let me know as soon as you can. I upgraded my Lenovo Z570 to Windows 8.1 and have been encountering lots of problems. I'm unable to boot after restarting. So every time it enters sleep mode or restarts, I have to shut it down using the power button and then restart. I've unchecked the Fast start-up option too but there's no use. Also tried Automatic Repair but it doesn't work.

When I start my comp. it gets all the way to desktop picture but with no icons, or start bar. The cursor is not there and i can only shutdown manually. This happen after a shutdown that was never completed. I thought that i may have a virus. But I tried to insall a new hard drive fresh and load xp and was unsuccesfull. The new hd was to be the only hd. I can't get past checking dmi pool. I just got the bios info and am considering a reflash. Problem is... When I decide to do a restart all I get is a flashing cursor on the top left hand side of the screen. It doesn't do it on the start up but on the shut down. I recently ran Ad-aware and found and cleaned 85 or so objects. Mostly registry issues. I'm posting a Hijack log for you pleasure.

I have searched and searched for answers to this problem. It doesn't seem like any of the posts that I've seen have the same detailed characteristics as my situation. Whenever my computer is started and logged on, a few minutes go by, then the message "unable to launch restart.exe" pops up. Once we hit the OK button, everything seems to be fine. So it's not a big problem, but it's kind of a nuisance.... Anybody have suggestions?

As I said previously, I have read MANY other posts regarding this error, but it seems everyone was having much more serious problems regarding this message. This computer seems to run just fine after we hit the OK button on the error message. FYI... this is an HP computer, running XP Home Edition, P4 2.93 Ghz, 1 Gig ram, Ad-aware is installed, and Norton Internet Security 2006, both of which are fully up-to-date and scans have been performed. All standard windows disk utilities have also been run.

I don't know what else is appropriate to tell you...
I do have Hijack This installed and have run it once... but at the time I wasn't registered for any of these help forums. If needed I can run it again and save the log file for someone to assist me.

Upon recharge of my laptop the message came: do not turn off loading update windows 10 / 100 % complete and that was it. Now it will not restart / one time it came repair / then with window 10 logo / or the little wheel turning / and that's it. I have mastered these issues before but now I am at a loss...

My PC was shut down in running mode 15 mins after starting, now its unable to start, means there is no noise from pc even after pressing start button of CPU, However supply to moniter is on which is taken through SMPS of CPU.
Earlier one of the fan was making heavy noise as soon as PC started, after 20 minutes it reduces, this was occurring for last couple of month. sometimes it was showing system overclocked message, but while starting if we keep pressing F2 it use to start.

Pl help me out.

Unluckily, your motherboard MAY have gone bad.

How old is your system? Have you checked the power supply (PSU)?

Have you opened the unit before you turn it on and watched the fans to see which is having trouble, especially the CPU fan?

Dear TSF,

I am not quite sure whether this is the right forum, ... my appologies if it isn't.

I cannot restart my pc any more. All started with Microsoft Security Essentials detecting 2 trojans and advising to remove them, which I did (at least 1 of the trojans was located in the Documents and Settings). After removal, I decided to close all programs and to restart (interestingly I had to close an online video I did not recall starting), but could not restart my pc ever since. Here is what is happening now when I try to start the pc:

1. motherboard screen appears (with option to enter SETUP)
2. black screen appears (with info about BIOS (5.1.39) and option to enter RAID utility)
3. other black screen appears (with info about primary & secondary disks, SATA, and PCI device listing)
4. other black screen appears advising that Windows did not start sucesfully, possibly because of recent hard/software changes (with option to enter Windows in safe mode, normal mode, or last known good configuration)
5. a) if I enter in safe mode, a listing of "...System32\Drivers..." files appears, then system aborts, and restarts b) if I enter in normal/last good mode, the splash screen appears, then system aborts and restarts.
6. back to step 1.

I am worried that Microsoft Security Essentials, by removing the trojans, actually might have removed part of the system files for start-up. Is this possible? How could I fix this? Is this the end of it? Do I have to burry my pc now... Read more

It turned out that I needed to regain access to my stuck pc more quickly than I thought earlier. Consequently I do not have the time to go through the TSF process. Intsead, I brought the pc to a local pc repair shop. My excuses if anyobody has put some thought-work in this already, but this thread can be closed now.

After downloading CloneCD from the CCD website and installing was asked to reboot. However after reboot the following message box appeared:

"lsass.exe error

An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function"

and then rebooting itself.
Trying the repair options after booting off CDROM, resulted in being asked for the administrator password, of which none has been set. That happened 3 times and then reboot was the only option.

Safe Mod and all the other F8 menu options result in the same error message

Restore does not work and no restore points are present. I had reinstalled a week ago.

Tried a repair reinstall from CD which resulted in the same lsass.ex error and reboot without warning

Now I'm stuck. Is this a virus or simply some setting that needs changing. I have a dual disk setup for just this eventuality but don't know how to make changes to system settings on the other disk

ran memtest for 7 passes with no error

seems like all my recent bsods are memory related. i dont have any spare rams to try.

any help much appreciated. im getting tired with all the recent bsods.

My computer is another recent victim to the msblaster worm. I did download nortons msblaster remover and successfully removed the virus from the computer and i think also the registry. However, i cannot install the patch from microsoft because of the update.inf file setup error. Ive read alot of the other threads about restarting cryptographic services in order to do that but i cant even do that because there is an error when i try to restart it. Not only that but i also cannot view the properties of the cryptographic services. Any ideas of how to restart this service another way or what could be wrong? I really need to patch my computer because I still cannot cut paste, and certain websites have been blocked(hotmail is one of them) and other important functions on my computer no longer work properly. This crap is really pissing me off and i need help ASAP. Any helpo would be greatly appreciated. Im lucky that my friggin browser works rite now so that i can even create this new thread.

After installing Windows 8.1 updates, my PC  did not restart. Every reboot ends up with the same blue screens listed below: Automatic Repair. Your PC did not start correctly Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Also at the bottom of this blue screen there is the message of CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED I know for sure there is no HW fault as did all the test using HP diagnostic. Also using cmd.exe I can see partitions and drives (even virtuals) listed and recognised. Yet, in cmd.exe I did a system scan (sfc /scannow) and windows resource protection found corrupted files and successfully repaired them. The system file repaire change will take effect after the next reboot. But after rebooting everyting goes back to the initial blue screen problem. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks

I recently had a BSOD error show whilst using Chrome (in Windows 8.1). It failed to restart automatically and now I have several problems with the computer:

1. Computer won't shut down properly. The screen goes black but it's still on. Holding down the power button sometimes turns it off but that doesn't always seem to work.

2. Computer won't restart properly. On restart it hangs at the 'Restarting...' screen (wheel just keeps on turning forever).

3. I can't open control panel. If I try the window opens but it stays white with a loading wheel and never loads properly. I also can't close it afterwards.

4. No programs seem to be launched on startup. I have things like 'The Audio Service is not running' when hovering over the volume control on the taskbar. I have several programs set to launch on startup and none of them do but I do appear to be able to start them manually (and they will then show in the taskbar).

Those are all the symptoms I have noticed so far. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

It seems that the startup programs do eventually launch but only after an hour or so of the computer being switched on.

I tried a system restore but that did not help and attempting to repair startup files from the windows 8.1 install disk failed.

It's getting to the stage where I think I'm going to try a full reset (at least I've been able to backup files) unless anybody can give me any advice.

Hi there,
I have posted occasionally with spyware issues - but this is not that. Suddenly in the last several days, our computer tends to freeze up after anywhere from several minutes to about a half hour of use. Sometimes it happens when it's been left on and not in use - sometimes while we're using it. When it happens, we can't even do a restart - we have to turn it off manually. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to it.

We have checked for spyware etc. through search & destroy, etc. and found nothing. Our virus reports turn up clean.

I did a Belarc Advisor report for yo - this omits the software licenses.

A:Windows XP: Computer keeps freezing and unable to restart

Failing hardware (memory, hard drive, power supply) or overheating (dust buildup, failing fans) can cause system instability. Have a glance at the four diagnostic LED lights on the front panel of the PC, next to the USB ports. When the PC is powered on, all four should be steady green. If not, to see what error state your PC is experiencing --- http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...m/WD846A02.pdf (on page 47, "Diagnostic Lights"). Also, you can try running the Dell Diagnostics to thoroughly test how the system's components are holding up. You can enter the Diagnostics by pressing the F12 key as you computer is powering on, and selecting Boot to Utility Partition. All the details are in the manual (which is the link just above) -- go to page 50. You'll want to run the extended tests.

Check for overheating. Listen carefully to see if the system fans seem to be spinning well. Does the exhausted air seem overly hot? If yes, shutdown Windows, power off, and unplug the power cord. You can then ground yourself, open the case, and use a can of compressed air to blow out dust building up in the case and case-fans. Be careful not to touch the circuit boards (static shock can cause harm to the sensitive electronics). Close up when done. Details for opening and closing your case are in the manual linked to above.

Since the last update I can't change the restart options for the updates. I have Bitlocker enabled so the system restarts after the update and stays at the Bitlocker screen, would be nice to restart the system when I get home.

Is there a way to get around this ? My multimedia server is installed on that machine and it keeps getting offline because of this...Not really helpful when I am out and about.

My laptop is an HP Compaq Presario with AMD Turion 64 2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 80GB HDD using Windows XP SP3. I was able to restart/standby/hibernate the laptop without any problem until recently. But now, though it can enter restart/standby/hibernate status smoothly, it would not wake up or resume most of the times. Only the lights for power, volume etc. would come up but the screen remains blank and there would be no light from the USB mouse. The hard disk indicator would not blink and the system sound will gradually become louder (may be it is heated up).

However, when I press the power button for a while, the system shuts down and it would resume/wakeup from whatever state it was before from hibernation or standby or restart.

Please help me to resolve the problem.

Four days ago I did something moderately unwise and restarted during a seemingly stalled (XP equivalent of) scandisk. After that, I could not get as far as POST during startup. Power was cycling through the DVD drives and hard drives, video card and cpu fan worked fine, but no monitor info, no F11 for Boot Menu, no F8 for Safe Mode, No F2 for BIOS Menu, no POST beeps.

After several attempts to restart with just the video card, still no change. Reseated RAM, booted once without RAM, double checked all cables, no luck. I cleared CMOS, no change. As an out-of-ideas act, I tried a restart with a floppy... and POST occured.

After resetting BIOS, my system seems back to normal. Can anyone shed light on what happened? I'd be greatful to hear your ideas.

Hello everyone, I'm running a windows 7 operating system and I need help I've been having this issue for a few weeks. Usually when I download something big or stream my internet on my PC specifically will go out and I cannot get it back unless I restart my pc I have tried ipconfig/renew and I get the unable to contact DHCP.

Now saying that, I have tried other methods that don't work at all however my wifi works perfectly on my phone and other devices in the household and it is only my pc. I am connected via Ethernet as well but I also sometimes use a wireless adapter however have not experienced the internet go out using the adapter but for network adapter I have updated drivers, tried different ports as well as using different cables and none of those have helped I've looked up many solutions and none seem to work please help thanks

I have recently bought a new system running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

After I played Cities in Motion 2 on Steam the problem first occurred. The screen freezes and one or two seconds late the system restarts. There is no BSOD.

Yesterday I played all day with no issues but today the problem happens regularly, even when just browsing the internet in one window.

I am unsure what may be causing this and would welcome any help you can offer. Please find attached the SF Debug tool zip file.

If you need any further details please let me know.

The system is still under warranty but I thought I would try here first before going back to they system builder.

The first dumpfile mentioned Probably caused by : AuthenticAMD, the analyse gives a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred.
The important thing to note in this is the following:


This could mean a lot of things, however it could mean the RAM in slot 4 of the board is faulty.

Another very important thing to note is in the DUMP itself, but not the WER structure output, is this:





What this means is this was NOT caused by software, but an IRQ request or another hardware related issue did. Essentially there was a bus communication issue (CPU, RAM, video card, PSU , etc).

The second dumpfile is Probably caused by : atikmdag.sys ( atikmdag+c48bb )
This is the driver for your AMD videocard, could be software or hardware related.

What I recommend:

You mentioned that your PC/system is still under warranty, so return it asap back to your system builder.

For a few months now, I have not been able to update Windows with any Windows Updates that require a restart.

At the moment, I can't apply:
Update for Windows 7 (KB979538)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

I have a feeling this might have something to do with the error I get when I shutdown/restart:
csc.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.
I can't find a csc.exe anywhere!

For troubleshooting, I have ran SFC /SCANNOW, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, adaware, AVG scan, and a TrendMicro House call(which found 2 trojans). I tried the registry
Research on google has not helped mo out so well.
