Replace Insider with regular Win10 keeping your apps?

Q: Replace Insider with regular Win10 keeping your apps?

Hello.

I've Windows 10 Insider Preview 14279 but it has several bugs that affects me.
I'd would like to remove it.
I've tried to install Windows 10 (the regular version) but it doesn't offer me the option to keep all my apps and personal settings.
How can I force it to keep everything and just upgrade?

Both are the Professional and x64 version.

I don't have the backup folder anymore.

regards.

Preferred Solution: Replace Insider with regular Win10 keeping your apps?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Replace Insider with regular Win10 keeping your apps?

You can't.

To opt out of Insider Preview, you will need to do a Clean Install.
Clean Install does not allow keeping files, nor settings, nor apps.
Backup the files you want to keep first.
You will have to reinstall all your 3rd party programs after clean install.

I have some old instructions on how to do this (I currently have Win 7 and Win 10 and want to add Win 10 insider version) but they do not work with Win 10.
The instructions I have involve a command prompt to rebuildbcd. But with Win 10, when I get to Troubleshoot/Advanced Options there is no command prompt option.

To cut a long story short, I reinstalled Win 10 from an image and on booting it goes to a "preparing for automatic repair..." message which either stays there forever or quickly opens a new screen with options to continue booting, advanced boot option or close the computer. None of these are of any use.

If I go into my UEFI, and look at Boot and at the bottom at Force boot, there are three options, only one of which is valid. Choosing that one boots OK.

Looking at Disk Management applet, I see the C: drive has three healthy UEFI partitions. Clearly two are redundant but which ones to remove???

I really, really don't want to do yet another clean install and go through reinstalling all my programs and settings. The reason I've had to do this several times recently is part of a long story I'll save for another day!

The only way to go back is to erase the insider preview and do a clean install of version 1607.

I can't really find the best way to do this and be sure i'll retain a license - it's not very well documented it seems.

My machine just did to upgrades in a row to 14926 and now I can't use it to do my development work. It sounds stupid but the last two builds disabled the way the context menus and file/edit/ etc menus work in the Unreal Engine editor where i do my development. I'm now stuck unable to regress to the working build and have decided it's probably best to install a fresh build that's not on the insider builds programme.

What's the simplest way to do this? I understand i'll probably lose all of my app installs which i'll just have to suck up. Do I use the 'clean installation' tool? Will it save my license for me? Will it just reinstall the insider build?

Please help! I've lost hours of time already on this - i'm really cheesed off with the pushy upgrade.

Thanks!

Error message on my Windows Update page:

"Theres a problem getting preview builds
your preview build settings nned attention. go to advanced options to fix this issue"

I go into advanced settings, and see that my MS Account is linked correctly.

"Your security settings need attention to get preview builds."
"fix this issue" button, click this, and it says in order to make this change it needs to restart the PC. I do this, but it doesn't fix the problem

The problem of not being able to get Insider Preview builds persists after a "reset windows 10 and remove everything" reset.

A:Win10 refuses to get Insider Preview Builds

If you don't mind reinstalling all the 3rd party programs you have installed, then do a CLEAN install.
Backup your personal files to an external hard drive or an USB flash drive.
Download the current Win 10 ISO from Tech Bench link below > burn it to a bootable DVD or USB > then do a clean install.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench
If you are asked for a product key, just click the SKIP option and continue.
Activation will be automatic.

Once you have a clean copy of Windows 10 running, then enable the Get Insider Preview Builds option.

Hi Everybody,

I apologise for asking such an inane question and I am probably being thick. On the weekend I decided on installing Windows 10 (Clean Install) and I downloaded Windows 10 Creation Tool and created a bootable USB which installs the default build10.10240 and I have set everything up for Windows Insider yesterday and put it on the Fast Ring but still noting coming through. I know it can take hours or even days after setting up Windows Insider and changing from Slow to Fast... I had the same problem on my MS Surface Pro 3 which is also running Windows 10 but that is on 10.10547.

It does not make any difference, if the profiles are identical on each device does it? When I say identical, both my MS Surface and my Main rig are running Windows 10 Pro on the same profile which shouldn't make any difference because each Product ID and registration key is unique to each machine that the OS is installed on. Windows is activated on both my MS Surface and my Main rig.

I had the same problem on my MS Surface, as it took over a week before the 10.10547 finally showed up in Windows Update. Unless I wait for 10.10558 which I would estimate possibly the end of October or the beginning of November.

Thanks
Mel

Hello!

I have been a Windows 10 Insider since the beginning. My main "test" machine for the builds is on my Mac but in Parallels Desktop. I'm considering moving to Boot Camp instead and just use Parallels to boot from the Boot Camp partition if I need OSX and Windows 10 side by side for specific tasks.

My question is this: Will I still be considered an Insider (or rather, still activated) if I install a fresh new insider build on Boot Camp and just sign in to my MS account? I'm planning to use the ESD file that updated my build to 10240. Once that is done, I'll just delete my current VM. Just to be clear, I am not trying to migrate the Win10 VM itself to a Boot Camp partition. Since that in itself is quite a hassle to do and considering a boatload of hurdles to overcome.

Oh and please tell me if I posted this question on the correct category thread and move it accordingly if needed.

Thanks! ^_^

Hello.

We are monitoring windows insider preview to check in advance the updates that can cause incompatibility issues with our software and recently we have stumbled upon an unexpected issue: Internet Explorer (v11.1000.19608.0) can't reliably do https with a server
if the latter requires clientAuthentication. When accessing the URL, IE is offering the user to pick up his personal certificate, as it always did before, than it asks for PIN to the smartcard with the private key, but then it is no guarantee that handshake
will be successfully done - it may, and it may not, without any obvious predictability.

When such a handshake ends up unsuccessfully, we can see through server logs that client (IE) did not really provide user certificate (and TLS certVerify handshake message) in spite of fact that the certificate was chosen by the user and the PIN-code was provided.

As far as I can see, this first comes up with update specified in the title (10.0.19608). From our experience, older version, including all of the actual ones that are in circulation now don't show this kind of behavior.

It seems to me that there is smth with AcqureCredentialsHandle call, which no longer receives user certificate for SChannel credentials, even if certitifcate was chosen via GUI.

Can anyone direct me or suggest what am I doing wrong?

Ive just freshly reinstalled Windows 7 64bit on a small 120GB SSD on my PC which is my C drive. It shows up as 111GB in size in My Computer and of this, a mere 58GB is shown as free.
My PC also has a 1 x 1TB and 3 x 2TB mechanical HDs.
D, a 2TB HD, has been reformatted and is empty except for a newly created Windows Image Backup folder.
The E,F and G HDs contain a mixture of data (separately backed up), apps, utilities etc. The 1TB drive has been used for temporay storage of things which may, or may not, eventually find a permanent home on the 2TBs.
I know that the 58 GBs on the SSD will be swallowed up in no time if I start installing space hungry apps like MS Office, Photoshop, audio apps, the odd game and flight sim program on it. Furthermore, my understanding is that constantly writing to a SSD is to be avoided if possible.
Ideally I want to leave the SSD with just the OS on it with the benefit of a speedy system start up time.
I would very much like to
1. Install all apps, or as many as possible on D, not C
2. Transfer every folder appearing under the PCs name folder to D

Try this - look for hidden install.esd and copy elsewhere.

Convert to iso using

ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File - Windows 10 Forums

Double click on iso and run setup.exe to do a repair upgrade.

I want to buy an ultrabook, but it has a 512gb SSD with raid0. I would like to remove this and replace it with a 750gb or 1tb 2-1/2 HDD.

If I make an image of the SSD and put it on the HDD (or clone the SSD to the HDD) will the raid configuration -- which I won't need on the HDD -- cause me some problems?

If so, can some suggest the best course of action to achieve what I want?

A:Can i replace SSD (raid0) with regular HDD in ultrabook?

Hi DocTerry,

Be very careful here. Since you didn't give the specific model number of the laptop in question, there is little to go on; however, I hope you understaand that attempting such a drastic change would instantly void all warranty support. And, I'm thinking the complications of attempting such a thing, without a vast knowledge of the processes involved, you are only headed for big trouble here. Moreover, you are going to take a huge performance hit here by making such a modification so why not leave everything "as-is" and buy yourself a nice external USB drive for that extra storage.

but it has a 512gb SSD

Are you sure it doesn't have a 2x256MB SSD arrangement?

I'd just leave it alone until "after" the warranty period expires. Good luck.

My plan was to [1] backup all data externally, [2] replace the HDD, [3] recover OS and system setting with the recovery disk and [4] reload my externally-backed-up data. However, my concern is that I am not sure where the recovery disk is located, and my worry is that by replacing the HDD, I would have removed the recovery disk too. (In which case I may need something like Acronis to capture an image). Does anyone know if the recovery drive is tied to the HDD? I recently installed Microsoft Office 2013 and, out of curiousity, clicked on Lync. I'd never heard of it so I thought I'd try it to see what it was. It seems to be a new version of their older IM program, Microsoft Messenger. I have no interest in using this program at this time but my computer insists on launching Lync for me on every reboot.

How do I coax Windows (8.1) to NOT launch Lync automatically? I realize that uninstalling it would probably accomplish what I want but I'd rather not do that. I might find that I want to use it somewhere down the road. In the meantime, I'd simply like it to be on the computer so that I can start it via the Start menu if I really want to use it but I don't want it starting automatically on every reboot since that just uses resources that I'd rather leave available for programs that I'm actually using.

I realize I can use Task Manager to kill the Lync process manually after the reboot but I'd rather keep it from starting in the first place. How do I do that in Windows 8.1?

A:Keeping apps from starting automatically

If there is a 'Lync' entry in the Startup tab in Task Manager, right click on it and choose 'Disable'.

There is no need to manually keep items in your Dropbox up to date.  You can keep things in sync by installing the Dropbox client.  When you install the client, a Dropbox folder will be created under your user account.  Anything you put in that folder is automatically synced with your Dropbox.  A Dropbox icon will also appear in you system tray.  Clicking that icon allows you to perform various actions, including opening your Dropbox folder.  A shortcut icon will also appear in the left (navigation) pane of Explorer from which you can easily get to your Dropbox folder as well...

If it has secure boot enabled it may stop it you would have to disable it. If you put 7 on it will start downloading win 10 you also need to be sure you can get drivers for 7 before you do it. Give 10 ago before you jump ship you can set to work mostly like 7

A:INSPIRON 15--- Remove WIN10 OS and replace with new WIN7

If it's the interface you don't like, install Classic Shell, which is free (open source) and lets you have a WIndows 7 interface over Windows 8 or 10.
If you really want to run 7, realize that if you have a Skylake (6th generation) CPU, there are restrictions on how you can install Windows 7 -- and within two years, Windows update will cease to function on Skylake and later CPUs.
If you do install 7, you'll need a license for it (only Windows 8 and 10 Pro carry downgrade rights;  the standard version does not) and realize that Dell won't support your installation of the older OS - you'll need to check the specific model you have to see if 7 drivers are available from Dell, and if they're not, you'll have to check with the individual component manufacturers for drivers.

Can I replace it with a mail program where it can be accessed from either computer, without duplications, and of course be able to work with W10.

A:I am looking to replace Microsoft outlook 2007, for Win10 & Win7.

Hi and welcome:

You didn't specify what type of accounts you have (ISP, webmail, Exchange, etc.), whether they are set up as POP3 or IMAP, or how many accounts you have (that might influence your choice).
But there are many choices for email clients, both free and paid. Each has advantages and disadvantages.
AFAIK, they all work under both Win7 and Win10.

See these articles for a bit more information:
Email Client
and
Comparison of email clients

I have used Thunderbird for many years with ISP, webmail and Exchange accounts. But it is just one option.
There are tutorials available on how to import your Outlook data into Thunderbird.
I expect other email clients have similar tutorials.

It sounds from your description as if IMAP is the way to go for you, so that you can access your messages on the servers.
Another alternative is to set up some form of "sync" -- this can be done from within certain email clients.

It can also be accomplished with a helpful 3rd-party app (Mailwasher Pro) -- it permits cross-platform syncing across multiple devices. The Free version works if you have only 1 email account. You'll need the paid version if you have more than 1.
The other advantages of Mailwasher Pro:
Spam filtering at the server, before the spam (or malicious emails reach your system)Unified preview, quick reply, quick forward and other functions for incoming messages from ALL your mail accounts in a single, easily-customized "dashboard" -- very efficient!... Read more

Starting some weeks ago, launching apps on my windows 10 machine became unbearably slow.
My observations are:
1. Launching an app can take minutes (even launching Notepad, or trying to connect to a new Wifi network).
2. After an app is running then it is responsive. So I think the issue is mostly with launching apps
3. Login also takes a very long time
Here are links to my system info log and events log
Thanks a lot for the assistance

I have a 128gb SSD and a 1TB HDD.

When I initially set this up on Windows 7, I had to move the default documents, apps and temp files folders to the HDD.

I am have upgraded to Win10, but want to do a fresh clean install.

Do I need to do anything to point not only my documents and apps but temp files to save to the HDD by default?
I know i can do this in storage settings for apps, docs etc - but what about temp and other files?

Any suggestions - thanks?

I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 in developer mode, with the latest version of Visual Studio 2015 Community.
I need to install the Windows Universal App Development Tools in order to develop UWP C# apps.

1) Firstly, I've tried to download & install the packages from VS setup. I chosed Modify, and checked all the packages of Windows Universal App Development Tolls, then Next & UPDATE. The installation ends up with this message:
2) I didn't thought it should prevent me from UWP development, so Iv'e launch VS, and then tried to create new UWP blank appliction project. This ends up with this message:
3) Iv'e tried to download some UWP & IOT templates from VS extensions, didn't solve the issue.

4) So I kinda understood this connects to the Windows 10 SDK. I tried to download the SDK from the standalone setup:
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-u...windows-10-sdk'
Threre are 2 options to download the SDK:

Both options installation ends up with this error:
5) Iv'e tried to either Repair and Uninstall VS. Didn't solve the issue.
6) Iv'e tried to delete the Temp folder in AppData>Local, didn't solve the issue.
7) Iv'e tried to download the standalone SDK files to 2 another PC's. It's also ends up with the error in section 4.

I don't have any idea what to do in order to install the SDK and create UWP apps... Someone can help me please?

Hello,

In need of basic advise please.

I am building a new computer next weekend and have three drives and would appreciate your advice on a partitioning strategy for 3 drives:

- Drive 1: New 256GB SSD m.2 pci-e SSD for Win10 and apps (autocad, sketchup, Adobe CC, rendering apps)

- Drive 2: Old 2010 Vertex SSD which is 90-120gb (can't recall) for scratch disk/win page file for Adobe and apps

- Drive 3: New HGST 7200rpm 4TB 3.5" HDD for files, pics, video and possible system image ( necessary on Win10?)

1) I plan to format all 3 drives as NTFS unless there is strong suggestion to do otherwise?
2) what is best partition strategy for Drive 1? How much GBs for partitions for Win vs Apps? Is 60GB adequate for win10 partition leaving just under 200 GB for apps?
3) I read on win website to create 3 partitions for sys in this order: utilities; sys; win recovery. Does default win setup do this automatically or must I specify how many partitions and in what order and in what size? I'm clueless on this.
4) Disk 2: how much risk am I taking by using 5 yr old SSD for scratch disk? The virtual memory is volatile anyway so am I just risking each current session? I plan to point page file, cache, scratch to this drive. If too risky, I presume that using boot SSD as scratch is better than using HDD #3?
5) Disk 3: does win10 still require that user do image of opsys for recovery (using acronis et al) and, if so, how many GBs do I partition on Disk 3 and if so does it matter if it... Read more

A:Partition strategy for clean install (Win10, apps, scratch, storage)?

I can tell you how I would start. Boot from the Windows 10 install USB, select custom install, delete any partitions on the first SSD, install Windows 10 to the unallocated space and let it create it's own partitions.

Also, I would not pay full price for a Windows 10 product key, I would purchase a cheaper Windows 7 or 8 and use that product key to activate Windows 10 with.

I have been having so many problems with the Windows 10 installation I'm thinking about going back to Win7 until MS works out all the bugs in Win10.

My PC came with 8.1 and updated to Win 10. Win10 was fine until the last major update when everything went h--- in a hand-basket. Update reset everything to defaults, installed apps I'd uninstalled.

Question: Can I remove the HD with win10 and put it on the shelf until MS gets it running. I want to install a bare HD and install a valid genuine Windows 7 OS on the bare drive. Is there anything I need to know before I give this a try? I know I'll have to reinstall all programs and all missing win7 updates...

Will I be able to install the Win 10 HD at a later date, install updates and be back up and running under Window 10 user accounts?

A:Install Win7 to replace OEM win8.1 w/Win10 install

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Since you're talking about a separate win-7 installation on the machine your plan is sound and exactly how you should do it

You might in your bios have to disable fast start and possibly secure boot but otherwise you shouldn't have any problems installing win-7 fresh
You might have to gather drivers if this is a laptop but a desktop would have no issues windows updates will provide most
If you review device manager and see if any unknown device listings are there just post about them same goes for installation of win-7 issues.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I have external VGA display 1920x1080, in Win10 it is set as primary display. Both Intel and Radeon video adapters are enabled. Most of Win10 "modern" aka "metro" apps (Mail, Store) fail to render correctly when their window is bigger than the built-in LCD (1366x768).At least it looks like this. When I resize these apps more than certain size, the added area does not render and stays transparent or filled by background color.Moving the window around, further resize does not help. This behaviour started in version 1708 and still continues after 1803 update.   Please advice how to fix this. Very annoying. Thanks,Pavel A.

Hello Pkshadow Welcome to the Ten Forums!

The prompting you are seeing is most likely to get you to notice and install updates that have been accumulating. Otherwise that is a strange one. You might have to sign into an MS account if you already had one setup in order to see that account's information updated on the change from Insider to Anniversary. That would then see everything synced properly.

In my case I would like to replace cmd.exe with Take Command or Cygwin, Notepad with Notepad++. Calculator with DreamCalc, Regedit with Torchsoft Registry Workshop, and the default clipboard with ClipMate. I'm a poweruser of sorts and find these apps far superior to Microsoft's built-ins. I have already replaced Task Manager with Process Hacker 2, it has an option to do so. I want to be able to press Windows key/Super and type in any of the default builtin names, and have my custom app display instead. I have found a method which requires making a backup copy of and replacing files in %Windows%. But I'm leary of this sort of thing, so I need an alternate method. Perhaps there is some Registry entry I can modify? Environment/system variables? Anything else? Whatever the case may be, it must be easily reversible as well.

Thanks for any help!

Hi, im new here and have abit of a dilemma. I'm not much of a computer wiz so please bear with me,

I've been recently getting BSODs following getting a new hard drive and a new case for my computer. The hard drive replacement and transferring of parts to the new case was done at a professional hardware store.
Its been happening every 2 days or so, and I've checked multiple threads, but can't seem to find any solutions to my problem.

Help would be greatly appreciated , my computer seems to be going through a phase of problems so if this gets fixed, hopefully it should put an end to it!

Hi,
My disk contains 5 partitions:
part1 = ntfs-win10 free upgrade of win home premium (primary)
Part2 = ntfs-win7 home premium (primary)
Part3 = ext3-Extended (logical)
Part4 = ext3-LM rafaela (extended)
Part5 = swap (extended)
This setup worked good.

Part2 win7 got buggered, and reinstalled (nvidia chip-set melt down during win7 boot). The MB was replaced.

I can no longer get to win10 boot Part1. Booting to Part1 or Part2 results to booting the newly installed win7. Rafaela boot did not change: still working.

How can I reclaim my win10 boot? I can't upgrade for free anymore so I'm hoping there's a way to work with what's there.

Thanks,
Keith

Hi everyone,

 - Start with Vista 64-bit SP2 on PC with two drives - OS on Disk0 - working fine for years
 - Downloaded Win10 64-bit English-International ISO image from MS on 23 March
 - Installed on Disk1 as Home edition on 24 March
All works fine with dual boot Vista/Win10

 - Win10 Update arrived on 25 March (I think Win10 Cumulative Upate, but can't be sure)
 - Update installed with Shut Down on 25 March
Now fails at dual-boot time:
  PC/Device needs to be repaired
Required device isn't connected or can't be accessed
  Error code:  0xc000000e

Fortunately F9 boots Vista correctly.  I conclude that either the dual-boot is messed up OR it recognises that the Win10 OS is messed up.
I'm a hesitant to go further without expert advice as I'd hate to mess up the Vista possibilty ! ! !

Many thanks for any help - David

I've just "recovered" an S400 running Win10 and it restored Win8!  My guess is that it was originally running Win8 and then the owner (a friend who managed to install some viruses!) used the free upgrade to Win10; but the Lenovo recovery system didn't upgrade what needed to be recovered and just went back to whatever was on the laptop when it shipped. So now that we're back at Win8, what do I need to do to get back to Win10 again.  I was pleased that Lenovo had the clever recovery system but am now sad that it doesn't cope with upgrade properly :-(. P.S. If Lenovo are reading this, please add some warnings that this might happen to you online instructions!
