Q: My Hp laptop won't turn on and its battery power LED keeps b...

Hello every one!I have an HP probook 4530 with upgraded windows 10 -64 bit on it. it was working pretty well since yesterday that i shut it down. (i'm used to hibernating my laptop, but i shut it down once every week) after that i could not make it start. it won't turn on, and the battery power LED on the side of it keeps blinking white for the whole morning!I tried battery, AC power, and both plugged in, but the power button exactly does nothing.i've found a table here with buttons flashing and sequences but neither matched my situation.I have to add that it has recently been warming up a little and had a few lags, which i guessed it's because of the new windows.please help me... i really don't want to hard reset my laptop because i have much data on it.thank you so much...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, my girlfriend in Beijing has an Acer Aspire S3 latop. She bought a new battery for it a while back and told me it was no good. I was in Beijing recently messing around with it and found that actually the battery is fine (lasts for >4 hours) but when unplugged and running on battery power, the laptop often just cuts out suddenly (loss of power). I took the battery out and had a look and cleaned all the connections but they seem fine.

The next part is the strange part and which I hope might give someone a clue as to what's going on...

When it cuts out, it will never restart again unless the mains power cable is plugged back into the laptop. As soon as that's done and the power button is pressed, it starts up again and the cable can be taken out immediately (I mean immediately - you can plug the cable in, push the "power on" button and pull the cable back out in less than a second) and it will start up and run fine on battery again... until the next time it suddenly cuts out without warning.

Because any unsaved data is lost and because the laptop cannot restart without the power adaptor, this very portable and light laptop is now reduced to having to be kept at home all the time and plugged in, which is exactly the opposite of what she bought it for.

Anybody have any idea what the problem could be or suggest some tests that could be done to find out? She took it to a local computer shop but the guys there had no idea.

Thanks in advance for any adv... Read more

Recently I noticed that the amber LED on my HP Probook 650 G1 flashing constantly, even when the laptop is powered off.   The System Tray battery indication is 100%, fully charged, when on AC power and 100% on battery power shortly after undocking.    I find the Probook won't power up if AC power is not available (no response when pressing power button) but remains powered when I remove it from the docking station.    Have the electronics that control this LED flashing and power up when not on AC gone bad?    Is this an indication of other failure? thanks

My wife told me that her computer just turned off. I came home and found out that the power cord had a short in it and I replaced it. I tried to turn it back on and it started to boot up and then it turned back off. I tried again with the same results. I tried it with the power cord disconnected, with the battey (and the battery will not hold a charge long), still the same thing. I took the battery from my computer which is the same as hers, and it booted back up. If you turn it off and try to boot it up it will turn off after the windows logo. note: I just put a new motherboard in this computer about a week and half ago. I removed the memory one at a time and then it started to boot up, screen went black and then a short blue screen and looped back to start up. don't know if it is the motherboard or not, one thing I did notice, with the computer off the charge light isn't lit up at all. The power supply light at the plug is blue but no charge light. When the computer is up and running, in the systems tray you can see that the indicator shows power plugged in and charge indicated but still no blue charge light. I have a HP dv2171 with a AMD prossessor. Can anyone help me?

I would run chkdsk /r on the hard drive from Recovery Console as going down probably created some magnetic shock to the drive, that can fix.

After spending another harrowing half hour trying to get my computer to boot, I have to ask: is there a way to turn off the battery unseat via power button thing? In case my description of the issue is unclear (it may be), here's the situation: I actually carry my laptop places.  I know, portable computer being ported around, weird right?  Well, since lonovo decided we can't access our battery, they gave us a way to 'unseat' or 'disconnect' it, holding the power button down for 20 s or so.  Of course, this causes a lot of people to do this on accident and think their machne is broken.  Of course, allowing us to actually remove the battery would be a better  option, but we're sorta past that now. Anyhow, the issue I have is sometimes the battery unseat command is sent as a result of me walking places with the computer in my backpack.  As in, I get places, and the computer will not boot... and sometimes even the standard 'press for 20, plug in, boot' process fails.  Anyhow, just spent the last half hour trying to boot this thing... it finally worked, BUT I would love to know... is there a way to disable this 'feature'?  As in, is there a way to prevent the computer from disconnecting the battery via a power button press and hold sequence?  If so, please let me know, it would save me a lot of trouble.

Hopefully someone here can help solve my issue, because I'm practically at my wit's end with it. I recently ran Lenovo's Updater program and it installed a few new things on my Laptop... I don't remember all of them, but I know one was a BIOS update, a Firmware update (can't remember specifically for what though), as well as a few programs I was missing on my computer (like Lenovo Power Management, just to name one).  It's something I hadn't ran for a good year, so I'm sure everything was using an older version! In any case, it seems after I did that, many of the games on my computer started playing worse.  Long story short, after checking out a few programs to monitor what my computer's doing (CPU-Z, and even Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility), I noticed that my Laptop's suddenly only using a portion of what it can do. For example, the core speed should be able to go up to 2.6ghz - 3.3ghz... but strangely, it's staying at a solid 1.20ghz the whole time. No matter if I run any graphic-intensive games or do anything else that might need some extra power, it stays exactly at that number. Here's the weird thing though.  If I unplug my Laptop and let it run off the battery?  It shoots straight up to the 2.6ghz-3.3ghz, as it's supposed to.  As soon as I plug it in again, it drops right back down to 1.20ghz and many of my games run like crap again. I've tried looking up solutions online, but I've found nothing that helps. I've tri... Read more

Hi,

I bought a new battery for my Sony Vaio (VGP-BPL9) about 2 months ago. It worked for a while, but all of a sudden my laptop would not turn on with my battery in there.

The battery is fine, it's new. How can I fix this?

A:Laptop will not turn on with battery

It could be that the Charger can no longer handle chrging the battery and running the laptop at the same time. But how have you confirmed that the battery is good? Just because it is only 2 months old? Or has it been tested in another compatible laptop to confirm this. Also did you buy this battery from Sony or some where else?

I have just received a replacement battery for my Toshiba Satellite L770 laptop which I purchased from a preferred seller on Ebay. When I put it in the laptop to charge and use the computer while it's charging, the computer will not even turn on. I contacted the seller and this is what he replied:

"We are sorry to hear that the battery did not work well. No problem for return and you will get a full refund if we receive your return within 60 days of the purchase date.

However, before the return please check the following:
1. Make sure that your power adapter and electric outlet work well
2. Make sure that the connection part between battery and laptop is clean. If not, please clean and try the battery again
3. Many new batteries need several charge to reach the full capacity. If it is a newly received battery please recharge several times to allow the battery to its full capacity.
4. If you recently upgrade your operating system to windows 7, it may cause the battery not charge. Please go online for a solution for your specific laptop model.
5. Please check your laptop manufacturer's website for a BIOS update. Recently a few customers reported that the Bios update solved the problem having with their battery.

Hi, my laptop (HP ProBook 450 G0) won't turn on without the AC adapter although the battery is charged (97%). When the adapter isn't plugged in, the adapter/battery LED (on the left side of the laptop) is flashing really fast (like 20times per sec). When I press the power button, nothing happens. When the adapter is plugged in, I can turn the laptop on. The adapter/battery LED is off, Windows say "plugged in, not charging". I ran battery test and system hardware test and everything's OK. I tried hard reset (pressing power button 30 sec) and it didn't help. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Your system should power on if you have the charging adapter connected, if it is not you could have a bad adapter or the motherboard could have a problem.

Hi all,
I'm new here and have a problem with my laptop...it wont turn on! When you plug the power lead into the laptop, the battery light is lit but when you try to turn the laptop on it goes off- there's also a small clicking sound each time I try to turn it on. I've tried running the laptop without the battery and still no success. Also if you leave the power lead in the battery light goes off within a minute...I'm absolutly stuck with what to try next- I've used compressed air etc to try and clean everything out...still nudda.

Any help much appreciated!

A:Laptop wont turn on- dead battery?

Sounds like a failed HardDrive (if it is you will need it replaced)

Just in case though:

Remove all power (battery and adaptor)
Hold down the power ON button for 30secs (dispersing all internal voltage)
Plug the power adaptor in only (for the moment)
Turn on

If it still doesn't work, I think the HardDrive has gone (ie clicking noise)

Last week the fuses in my bedroom suddenly blew. At the same time I heard a loud crack and the smell of burning and smoke. Nothing was on fire so I thought it was something in the wall. I checked the fuses, turned them all back on and everything was fine. I went back to my computer, finished with it and turned it to sleep mode. When I woke up the next day it wouldn't turn on again. Everytime I press the power button I see the light by the plug flash 3 times. I've looked this up and tried removing the battery, draining it of electricity... I've tried everything but I only get those 3 flashes. Have I maybe broken the charger and has my laptop drained of electricity? I can't think of anything else, but that the burning smell might have been from the charger. Can I check this somehow? If the connector fits (it may not - the older systems use a much larger barrel connector than many of the new ones), AND the power (wattage) is equal or greater, yes.

What may be the problem?

A:Attached portable phone battery to laptop now won't turn on

try disconnecting the batteries and anything else connected to the laptop
then
Lets try doing a hard reset on the Laptop

This will work for Laptops that have a removable battery
Remove the Battery
Unplug the Power Adapter/charger
Now hold the Power Button down for 60 seconds - let go of the Power Button

Now Put back JUST the power adapter/charger back into the Laptop
Start the Laptop up
If it now Starts up OK
we know its working and can put the battery back in - But first we need to use the normal windows Shutdown on the Laptop, before we can put the battery back in.
So, run the shutdown , when the laptop turns off completely
remove the power adapter/charger lead again

Put the Battery back into the laptop
Put the power adapter/charger back into the laptop
Now see if laptop starts {sometimes batteries can fail and stop the Laptop starting}
If the PC starts OK with the battery , then all should be fixed

Recently in the process of upgrading my Dell laptop the plastic cover of the CMOS battery broke off. I held the battery back into the casing with a sticker tape. The system worked fine until I took the laptop to work some weeks after. At work I pressed the power button to turn on the laptop, but it wont turn on. Absolutely no sign of power to the system; no power led, no sound or feeling at all. When I noticed some noise inside the laptop, I opened it and behold the button CMOS battery was no more in place.

I got back home and I fixed the tiny plastic that holds the battery to the casing with a little epoxy adhesive, and used the opportunity to replace a new battery. After coupling the machine back the condition remained the same. Any assistance from this great forum would be appreciated to be able to get my laptop up and running again. Thank you all in advance.

The Laptop is: Dell Inspiron 1501, 2GB RAM, 2ghz speed processor, Win 7 installed. I have no reason to suspect the power pack, everything looks fine.

Hi everyone,Please help me with my issue if you can. My laptop will not turn on/ power on even after I charge it.  When I plug it in to charge and try to turn it on, the charging light on the side will turn white for a moment and then turn orange.  Also, the light of the "power on" button will light up for a second before turning off.  When I attempt to turn on the laptop without the AC charger plugged in, the light on the "power on" button will not even light up. When I first experienced this problem, I was working on my laptop in class without the laptop plugged in.  Suddenly the laptop turned off although the power was still at 80%.  I plugged in the laptop to see if the battery had died, but the aforementioned results occurred and my laptop would not turn on.  Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Side notes:My computer does not have a removable batteryI have already attempted a hard reset Thank you, Vinny

A:No Ac Power or Battery power to Laptop

Sounds like a major failure in the laptop.

You can buy adapters for laptop HDD to Desktop IDE drives, quite cheaply. That will allow you to access the files on the hard drive.

USB cases are also quite reasonable for laptop hard drives and give an easy way to access the drive.

I've read that the thing that destroys the battery fastest is overcharging the battery. That's why I want to turn it off. The only alternative that I have been able to find is unplugging the battery which means I have to restart machine from scratch, as opposed to waken it from sleep, every time I want to use it.

Is there a way to stop the battery from charging other than unplugging it?

Hi all,

I have searched and searched for an answer to this problem, but can't seem to find a solution. Maybe someone here has a new idea...

Basically my computer suddenly stopped running on battery power. It had been working just fine until about two weeks ago. Here are the bullet points:

The computer won't turn on with battery installed unless the A/C adapter is also plugged into it. And, once on, the computer will shut down immediately if the A/C plug is pulled out.
The battery is relatively new (less than six months old.)
When pressed, the button on the battery itself indicates the battery is healthy (all lights illuminate, none flashing).
The meter on the computer indicates the new battery is working properly. When left out for a couple days and then put back in, the dell meter shows that it has lost 1% power and goes about charging it then successfully reports 100% charge after a while.
I've tried two old batteries (known bad, just haven't gotten around to taking them to be recycled) while using A/C adapter to see what the battery meter on the computer says... The meter displays an empty battery with a red x at the bottom when either of those is put in.

What I can't understand is why is it only working one direction? The battery will accept a charge from the computer then won't run off that charge later?

Other suggestions I've already tried, but haven't helped:
Verify computer has latest bios update.
Check for bent contacts.... Read more

Hi, My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1000) is missing the battery but I thought I could power it up using the AC adaptor but no luck. Should this particular laptop power without the battery?

One year later, I'm back with another problem! I just hope this is the correct forum...

I purchased the laptop I'm using about two years ago. For those two years, I have never removed the battery, but have used AC power nearly always, with the exception of a few quick trips and a couple of hours once every week or two. Initially, the battery lasted about 2 hours on a good day, with Wi-Fi enabled. A few weeks ago, that was reduced, seemingly instantly, to about 5-10 minutes. Upon doing some research (which I should've done when I first got the laptop), I'm pretty certain that the battery is about to kick the bucket.

What worries me, though, is how the laptop seems to be becoming increasingly hotter these past few weeks. Despite the fact that my battery hasn't been involved in any recalls, the paranoid side of me is hesitant about leaving it in for much longer. For now, however, being able to afford a new battery is up in the air (that's a nice way of saying not an option). So, I attempted to remove the battery and use only AC power. About three seconds after I turned the laptop on, it shut off. Upon a second and third try, it wouldn't turn on at all. I let it rest for about 30 minutes and tried again; it lasted long enough to show the Windows XP logo (ten or so seconds) and again shut off. I popped the battery back in, and it turned on without a problem.

So I'm left wondering: what's wrong? Has my laptop become dependent on batte... Read more

A:Laptop won't run on AC power without battery.

I've seen a number of laptops that won't run without the battery, so I'd say that could be normal. A laptop shouldn't damage the battery pack with it plugged in continuously. My wife's laptop has been plugged in most of the time for a year, the battery is just fine. The charging circuit in the laptop should not overcharge the battery.

If the laptop is getting hot, you might consider blowing the dust out of the fans, which is a major reason for overheating of laptops.

When I have the laptop off (Toshiba A75-S229) the ac power light is on and the battery charge light is on. As soon as I turn on and it starts to open windows the charge light goes off. Then as windows opens the laptop runs only on battery even though the ac light is on.
Except if I enter bios then the battery keeps charging.
Just wondering if anyone knows a setting or conflict that would keep laptop from switching to ac from battery?
Or could there be something in msconfig that I could check?

I am a handicap veteran who has no use of my arms or hands. I have a working HP  envy laptop. This may sound crazy, but, I was wondering if there was a way to be able to turn on my laptop without having to have someone else  press the power button. My power button is not broken. It works just fine. I would just like to be able to turn on my  laptop all by myself. I have been searching the Internet for solutions to this question. All I have found, is basically how to fix a broken power button. I was just wondering if this is a possibility. I currently have a head tracking system as well as Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Both have allowed me to do everything on my  laptop with the exception of powering   it on. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.  William Kochevar

Hi, I came home today and when I pressed the power button to turn on my latop, nothing happened. I pressed it multiple times, with and without some force, as well as held the button down. It still didn't turn on. I tried it with the battery in and without the battery but plugged into the charger and outlet, but nothing happened. I'm not sure if it's that the battery drained and the charger died and that my laptop has no power. Right now my laptop is plugged into the outlet with the battery in and the light next to the power insert on the laptop is unlit. Something of note that happened yesterday was that my laptop randomly shutdown and restarted a few times actually. I wasn't sure what happened, but it was fine afterwards and it said the laptop was charged. I'm thinking these two issues are related, but I don't know what happened. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
