I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

friends this is an old problem but wondering if someone can quickly school me on how to PERMANENTLY resolve.
Windows xp pro and Home are good stable animals that handle all sorts of USB devices pretty well.
XP Media Center Edition does not. this Dell Dimension has XP MCE SP3, all updated [not that updates were ever great with the Media Ctr version] - it still gags on just about anything plugged in - wanting to reinstall drivers for things it has already mounted in previous sessions. I am guessing this is a registry problem? i.e. the drivers are in the right place [i guess] in the windows system32 folder but the registry isn't carrying the right pointers?

what's the permanent fix?

Hello everyone,
Over the past few months, my install of Vista Ultimate upgrade has gotten steadily quirkier. Windows Mail (I hate it) will not properly delete e-mails. My DVD drives have disappeared and Vista will not find them. IE7 will not connect to the Internet but Firefox does. Installation problems with new programs, etc., etc. It is pissing me off and I just want a fresh start and reload Vista but I don't want the headache of having to format my drive, reload XP (which was also an upgrade), then reload Vista. Is there an easier way? If someone knows, please post and I will grant 1,000 kudos! Thanks to anyone that can help.

A:Is there a way to reload Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade without having to reload XP?

Hi Manley, and welcome to the Vista Forums,

When you looked at the compatability report for the upgrade, did it say VeriFace Pro was compatible? If not there's no way to get it back sadly, although Windows 10 does have built in face and iris recognition software. Edit: Corrected typo .

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Unfortunately Veriface is not compatible with Windows 10 and that is why the Windows upgrade removed it.  Please see this Lenovo Knowledge Base article regarding Veriface and Windows 10.....

There is a third party software application that some folks are using in place of Veriface.  That application is called KeyLemon and more information on it can be found here.....

Looks like these two recovery CDs are in fact dive image CDs made with Ghost.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ghost.nsf/docid/1999021911433525

Either the CDs are in need of cleaning or they are not of very good quality.

To recover data on these CDs what I do is to copy them using NERO Burning. Not copying directly from CD to CDR (Don't ever use CD-RWs!) but copying to the drive and then copying to CDR using data verification.

You need to be sure that the machine you borrow for this is virus free. (I use Plextor CDRs, btw.)

Now if you can borrow an XP CD you can use it just to preformat the drive using a full format to make sure it is clean.

I don't know if you can use these CDs if you partition your drive and make a smaller Primary drive partition. Better to ask emachines.

If you have the Free SP2 CD you can update to SP2 immediately after re-installing from the Recovery CDs and add your Firewall and Anti-Virus program before going online to fully update the AV, run a full scan, and then update the operating syste... Read more

A:reload XP Pro

If you load the drivers from Lenovo does it blue screen on you? If it only does it with the win updates, you could be running into a driver conflict which the system doesn't like. As well, you may want to check the drive as well, it could be hitting a bad sector on the drive each time and be causing problems.

This is about my daughters notebook which is an ASUS Eee PC1001PX running Win XP SP3..
It has stopped working and will not run windows, it drops back to the Hardware fault screen, where you have choice to run Safe mode etc,,
From here it will not boot any of the Safe mode options it tries and eventually drops back to this page.
It will not boot from a previously good version of windows ... same as above
nor will it run windows normally....

OK.. this notebook has a recovery partition accessed by pressing F9. this has no effect so assume the recovery partition is somehow corrupted.
I have connected a usb cd/dvd drive with a windows install cd .
Have changed the boot options in the BIOS so that it boots to DVD.
DVD boots and starts loading all the processes. it gets to the running Windows screen, and finds the harddisk and starts the check ... at this point windows installer seems to freeze and doesn't complete, only way out is to power off by holding down power key...

any advice on how to resolve this would be grateful, am fairly knowledgeable but this has me beaten at moment?

Regards and thanks in anticipation.

you could try running UBUNTU from the DVD only and NOT install -- and then test and see if the harddrive is faulty

------------------------------------------------------------------------

UBUNTU Stand Alone CD

NOTE : version Ubuntu 12.04

It may be possible to boot from another Operating System
This will at least test the Hardware and also see if you can see the Harddrive and possibly get data off.

If you have another PC with a cdwriter and spare CD
goto http://www.ubuntu.com/ and download the ISO http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

You can also run from a USB device now - if the Machine supports booting off a USB Stick
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

full details are here (Note this is for version 9 - so the start up options are slightly different )
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

click on the image "download ubuntu"
Select a location
then begin download
Save the file onto your PC – remember where you saved it – so you can find it again to create the image bootable CD.

You do NOT copy the ISO file onto a CD - you have to use the ISO to create a bootable CD
The CD creator software you have on the PC may have an option to create an image from an ISO
If not - use this free program http://www.imgburn.com/ - Choose the option Write image file to disc
OR
you can use this stand alone ISO Burner to burn the ubuntu onto CD ftp://terabyteunlimited.com/burncdc... Read more

Years ago, I bought an acer aspire E1-571.  I made a recovery key but lost it when I moved to a different state.  3 weeks ago I backed up my data and used acer recovery to reload windows 8.  It went fine but when I tried to make another acer recovery key, it stopped at about 99%.  So I left it, went to work and came back and it was froze.  So I shut the computer down, removed the key and planned to start again on the weekend.  When I tried to start it up, I found out the hard drive went bad.  The laptop is out of warranty so I purchased a new hard drive.  Next I came here expecting to get a copy of the OS and drivers.  Drivers yes, os no.  But I found it at microsoft.  But what I would like to know is: Where can I get a copy of the acer recovery so I can put it on the new hard drive I just purchased from new egg?I do not want to have to purchase a media set, like they require you to do at HP.  Is there a place to download it here?  I have searched and found the drivers page but not a copy of of the recovery so It will be just like I purchased it.

My system is 5 years old and getting extremely slow requiring about 10-15 minutes to boot-up. The overhead is loaded with bits & pieces of programs not required plus years of other garbage. All O/S updates are loaded. I have two hard drives formatted identically with Drive Image 2002 and a copy of the existing O/S on each drive. Id like to reformat the C drive and reload the XP O/S from scratch using the CDs supplied by Dell. Until I get it completed I hope to operate off the secondary drive. Ive also got the application programs and data loaded and backed up on separate partitions on each drive. Can I operate off the secondary drive and format the C partition of the primary drive, then change the Bios to boot from the Dell O/S CD and reload the primary drive from there?

Will I to have to reload all the applications on the primary drive after rewriting the O/S and getting it to the latest version? The common files folder is on the C drive so Im guessing all applications no matter which drive they are loaded on will have to be reloaded, correct?

Will the new O/S recognize the drive partitions when I delete the Drive Image application?

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks

I do, but want to be sure the drive is wiped clean first. Can I boot from the CD? I hoped the OS Disk was an image. I am in Canada and my friend is in Mexico and I am trying to support over Skype. A:How to reload XP

You should be able to boot with the OS CD. It will ask about existing partitions. You can choose to wipe\format them at this time then XP will install.

One way to be sure there is not a hidden restore partition is there will be a prompt to strike a certain key when booting. Usually an Fx key. x = a number. Do not confuse this with two other options that may appear with the Dell boot screen. Both of these will also include an Fx key option. One is to enter set-up. The other one that may appear will be something like "to enter BIOS" or "to change boot order".

Hi Everyone, I have a HP Compaq Presario Desktop. I haven't used it for months (probably closer to a year) and I would like to reload it and give it away. The problem is I can't reload it. I have reloaded this machine several times in the past with no issue. Instructions I would normally follow are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00814731#N530 Its totally ignoring me hitting the F11 key, which is the option for System Recovery on my boot screen. The only change I have made since last reload was to put another 2GB of RAM in it. I tried taking that out. It didn't make a difference. The computer didn't come with a reload disk. It has a recovery partition which is showing up as the D drive. As stated above, I have reloaded this machine off the recovery partition before. Any suggestions as to how I can get this darn thing to reload before I toss it out the freakin window?

A:Reload Vista

What's the complete model number of that Compaq Presario so we can determine if a recovery disc kit is available for it?

If you don't know for sure, advise what the product number(P/N) on the sticker is.

It's possible that the built-in recovery D partition has become damaged or corrupted and can no longer be used.

------------------------------------------------------

If you're planning to give it away to someone who's computer-savvy, that person may want to do a clean install of Windows Vista or Windows 7 in it and not use the recovery disc kit and reload all the outdated and useless "bloatware" that came in it.

That's what I would do.

Hi again
I attempted to reload windows XP onto my computer as it was full of crap and probably viruses too. I got it to repair the original version and it did so for about 2 hours. Then It restarted the computer and got to the black windows XP is loading screen. It stayed on this for around 6 to 7 hours by which point I thought it had crashed so I turned it off and on again, it loaded everything fine until it went onto the blue screen before it asks for a password, at this point it preceeded to restart itself. It does this all the time now....have I screwed it up big time? and if so how do I format the drives without being in windows?

A:Attempted to reload XP

If you repaired the previous version, you still have all the same viruses and infections that you had originally. Repairs don't work well on infected systems and don't clean out any problems.

Start over and do a complete restoration to factory defaults. All your programs and so on that were added by you after you bought it will be gone, but that is the only way to get a clean system.

You can't format a drive in Windows if it is in use. Restoring the factory defaults will also restore a new file system so formatting is not needed.

I'm assuming you are using the recovery from your own hard drive and not CD's. Is that the case?

I had ITOK look at it from the internet. They spent 8 hours with it and now it semi-works. Can't install or remove programs, programs don't run right. They said to reload xp! I bought a OEM xp pro sp3 disk with COA on the internet. I need to know how to reload the xp os. I would really like to reinstall to same partition overwriting the defective install. My programs and files would survive that way. Much of my software I bought online and downloaded it! I have no disks! With Win 98SE I just found win.exe in the system 32 directory and deleted it. Then I could reinstall Win98SE over the defective os. CAN I DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT WITH XP?????? I REALLY NEED HELP!!!! Thanks in advance to all who will help me!!!

Chances are the infection only caused some minor damage to your system files. Are you quite certain the Malware was completely removed, if there are any remnants left they will remain on the system unless you do a format and clean install. Have you tried running the System File Checker.

You could try this first which will repair any damaged system files:

Please download this and save it to your desktop: XP SP3 .ISO download

You then need to burn the .ISO image to a CD. You must use and ISO burning program, just copying the file to a CD will not work.

If you do not have an ISO burner then please follow this:

Download this and save it to your desktop: ImgBurn

Install the program and start the application. Select the top left hand option to burn image file to disk and then on the next window click on the small yellow folder icon and browse to the ISO file you wish to burn. Then click on the two grey discs with the arrow in between (bottom left) and leave it to complete the operation.

Boot the PC and then when at the desktop insert the CD.
Open Windows Explorer and then double click on My Computer in the left pane.
In the right pane double click on your CD drive.
Then in the right pane double click on the AUTORUN icon and follow the prompts.

==========================================================================

If that fails to cure the problem we could go on to find the damaged files or services, it's up to you.

IE 6 will not reload my Flash application correctly when a user returns to my page. When I select check for changes on the page 'Every time visited' it fixes my problem, but I certainly can't rely on my users knowing that. What is the best way to force IE 6 to reload the page?

Thanks in advance,

Kriszti

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that suffered a hard disk drive crash.
I have bought a new drive and installed it and went to find the disks that came with it and could not.
I have to load an operating system to use the laptop again.
Underneath the laptop I have the green "Windows XP Professional" Product Key.
Where can I get Windows XP to load from?
If I do, Does the Product Key work like a Lic Key and let me use it?
Or do I have to bite the bullet and go and buy some new disks from the computer shop?
Thanks for your help.
Gavin.

A:Reload XP. No Disks. Help.

With XP having been out of production for some time, it would be difficult to purchase new installation media. But it is completely legitimate to re-install the same version of XP from any media you can organise to have the use of. So if you can borrow an OEM XP Professional CD from anyone, as long as it is a normal XP install CD, not a system restore CD tied to a specific computer, you should be able to install it using the key printed on the COA sticker, and activate it normally. You should be able to obtain drivers from the Sony support website - since XP probably won't have the right LAN drivers, you'll likely need to obtain the Sony drivers using another computer. Also if the XP is Service Pack 2 or lower, you should have the SP3 installer available (XP needs to also be at SP1A or higher to take SP3).

Hello Everbody,

This is my first post. I have a Compaq SR 1720nx that I am fixing for a freind. I want to do a reload of the OS but the backup has all them darn preloads on them!
Is there any way I can load without putting all the preloads? or I have a new copy of Windows XP that i bought for a problem at work. Can I load that disk or will i
have problems? I have the knowledge to load and get running. What I am worried about is after the format will windows load? i remember that I had a problem
on a HP that required HP recovery Which s the best? I do't want all the preloads so that is why i want to do a new install. Thanks

A:Recovery or Reload

Both ways have pluses and minuses.
Using recovery CD you're getting back all preinstalled crap, which you have to uninstall. You don't have to worry about drivers though.
Using Windows CD, you have a very clean install, but you may need to install some drivers.

Hi. Running Acer Aspire T180 GB7Z. Messed up Vista and partitions by pressing the wrong button when re-loading Kubuntu (all was well until then). Probably made ir worse by trying to mess with the partitions to see if I could find what was left. Tried to re-load Vista but it says it cannot repartition without drivers, where can I find these? and will that solve my problems (obviously I have to download them on a different computer)? I have all my data backed up, and the Acer system back up (but that wont run either). Hope this is not entirely the wrong place to post this - it was hard to decide.

I got a message during boot up a couple of days ago saying I had a corrupt file in C:documents and settings, it is on my old 733 Dell. I was going to do a sys restore only to find it was not turned on, well that left e trying to do a repair with the Dell recovery disk. Much to my surprise I could not get past an applet saying the version of Windows on the machine was newer then the CD, strange that is what was used to load it and it ran on it for quite a few years. It is my backup machine and seems to run just fine except for the corrupt file message, I have done MBAM, Superantispyware both on full scan and also a full scan with KIS it appears to be just fine. How do I get around the newer version thing?

Phil

A:Odd reload prolem

To do a repair of XP, using an XP install CD (note that I don't say Dell recovery CD)...the files on the CD must match the SP-level of the system. If the system reflects SP3, the CD must contain SP3 files. If the system reflects SP2, the CD must contain at least SP2 files.

It's been that way for years now.

Dell is the expert on its recovery disks, you'd have to check their website or their personnel to find out how they work.

People, can I ask for the benefit of your knowledge and experience, please?

I run XP Professional, and am up to date with all patches, fixes and service packs. I hide behind a router (Netgear), and also protect myself with Avira, Kerio and Comodo (free versions). These, days, I use the system mainly for e-mails and web browsing (using Thunderbird and Firefox). I'm very careful what I download (no pirated music or films for example) and never open e-mails if I don't know the sender. So, I should be clean.

Yet, recently, the system has started to show "twitches". The main one is when I try to "Turn Off and Restart". It doesn't, or at least, I run out of patience and end up switching the power off.

The system (and thus Windows) is about 18 months old - it was shipped just before Vista. My son has suggested that what I need to do is reload Windows and start again (backing up my personal data first, of course).

Should I?

Thanks

A:Time To Reload The Os?

This usually happens when system fails to unload some device driver or shutdown some service when shutting down Windows. System keeps waiting for the service/device driver to unload.

From what you write, you are running 2 firewalls simultaneously and Avira. You can try uninstalling one of the firewalls. I would also test by uninstalling all such antiviruses or services that run in background. You can use System Internals AutoRuns tool, and tinker with different non-Microsoft services/apps.

It may also happen, because you are shutting down before properly terminating network connections. You may try turning off LAN first.

You can also edit the registry to auto-terminate the services/apps that are not responding to system shutdown event. You can set these values:

Set AutoEndTasks at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop to 1. The Value 1 means Windows will terminate automatically apps/services which are taking long time to respond to shutdown event.

Set WaitToKillAppTimeout at HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop to 5000.

Set HungAppTimeout at HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop to 1000.

Set WaitToKillServiceTimeout at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control to 5000.

Ofcourse backup your registry first.
