Windows 10 Lock Screen Background Doesn't Show Up (stays theme color)

Q: Windows 10 Lock Screen Background Doesn't Show Up (stays theme color)

Just installed Windows 10 on my primary laptop and the lock screen is a solid blue (if I change my theme color, the lock screen changes too). However, I have Windows Spotlight turned on. I've tried setting a static picture or slideshow as the background. I also confirmed that the files needed for Windows Spotlight are indeed downloaded onto my computer. It just refuses to change.

It's worth noting that on my secondary computer with Windows Insider builds, I have, and have been having, the same problem. Any ideas as to how to fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 10 Lock Screen Background Doesn't Show Up (stays theme color)

And blue is the accent color for that theme, correct?

After installing Windows 10 on my laptop my lock screen is experiencing the same problem as you, as well as in the desktop. In the desktop I found out that if I set a specific picture or slideshow and set the taskbar to detect color, the taskbar will switch colors to match the picture(s) as if they were displaying, but the pictures themselves don't actually appear on either the desktop or lockscreen.

If we are having an identical problem, that would mean that the pictures are still displaying, but the accent colors are taking priority over them, in a sense.

Hello.

Since a few days my lockscreen wallpaper on my Windows 8.1 system shows not properly. It looks like this:

When I press space I can insert my password.

When I restart my computer I get my lock screen wallpaper correctly, the bug is only when I lock my system or wake it up from sleep mode.

Anyone have any idea how to fix?

I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems.
Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.

Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.
However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.
But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.

Is this a bug or what in Win10?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've recently been testing out some face login programs, and although I have now uninstalled them all, it seems that my lock screen setup has been affected.

Whenever I *previously* used to lock my screen (using either Windows Key-L or after being woken from sleep or hibernation), it would show my user account tile with my user name, and under that was the password box (as in the picture below)

But now, when I lock my screen using Windows-L or when it locks automatically after being woken from sleep or hibernation, it just shows a smaller tile with my user name under it (as in the picture below), and the switch user button under it, but nowhere to enter a password.

I have to click on the tile and then that takes me to the first screen shown above where I am able to then enter the password. I know it seems a little picky but I did prefer the setup I had previously.

I've already tried changing the following settings in Local Security Policy without success:
Display user information when the session is locked
Do not display last user name
Does anyone know what I can do so that the lock screen with the password box is shown immediately (first pic above) when the computer is locked?

thanks in advance!

A:Lock screen doesn't show password box

Well, its seems to have fixed itself after I did a reboot... Also had to do a couple of system restores because some of my startup icons weren't appearing in the system tray...

Hey all,

I have a question regarding the font/background colors on the Windows 7 log screen. I just accepted a position with a school and a few computers have customized log screen font colors/backgrounds. The Windows 7 classic background is there, but the username and password boxes have been changed. For example, one computer has green text that sits on a black background for both username and password. Another has a different combination of colors. I've searched related topics but am having trouble finding a good, clear cut solution. I basically just want to reset the log screen back to the default white background with black text for each box.

Anyone advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Use to, you could change the background colorof a window box and it would be the background color of all windows. EX; background color of, word docs, exceldocs, file manager and other such things could be a color of yourchoosing. I have followed the instructions and still cannot get the word, excel and other backgrounds to change. It seems as if all other colors change but the one I want to change. Any advise?

That's because Microsoft in their infinite wisdom? has decided that we need to see the same thing on all our computers! This version of themes came with Windows 8.1 Update and I hate it! Sorry, but I haven't figured it out how to change it back yet.

I think the themes are tied to the Microsoft ID we sign in with.

I haven't tried it yet, but it may be that if I sign in with two identities, such as [email protected] or [email protected] (neither of these will get an email to me) it could be that I could have separate themes.

I'll try this tomorrow to see if it works. I don't like to have decisions made for me!

Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."
However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).
Any insight on this is appreciated.

A friend who receives his e-mail via Yahoo complained yesterday that I sometimes send him yellow text on a white background, which is very hard to read.

Of course it would be hard to read, but I never send e-mail with yellow text on a white background. What I do send has a dark background color against which the yellow text (or even white text sometimes) is quite readable.

The problem is that Yahoo can't display a background color. My question to you folks is, "Why?"

Is this a MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension) function? Or something else?

AOL users had this same problem, I believe, prior to release 7.0.

An example of all this is available at
http://home.pacbell.net/rds33/combined.html
where you can see a message I sent to my friend Rich who made the complaint.

Please enlighten me (and Rich and several other friends who also use Yahoo). What causes this problem? What can they do about it? What can I do about it (other than sending everything Plain Text or always using a dark text color)?

I'm eager to hear your suggestions.

Hi.

I was searching for a while, and i can't really specify what my problem is, so i decided to ask here instead.

Recently i started to use custom themes (yeah, patched with universal patcher, everything done sucessfull). Every single Custom Theme I download works perfectly fine, with one exception. Things like start menu, window icons, custom icons and explorer bars works fine, but folder backgrounds doesn't. I mean, for example this theme:

k-rlitos.com - El sitio casi mas pulentosamente inestable

When I'm opening it with Win7 Style Builder, it finds background images:

these 3 images are exactly the same 3 as folder backgrounds displayed on screens from Custom Theme i linked above, still they aren't showing up when I m using the Theme.

Same goes for navigation pane:

image which was suppose to be navigation pane background (check the screens from custom theme above) is in theme, but yet, it's not showing up.

Screen from My Computer when I'm running theme above:

Theme and files seems to be fine, but still I can't see custom backgrounds, so I don't really know if it's my fault and I'm doing something wrong, or it's theme's fault.

My question is, do anyone using custom skins knows how to install them properly so they'll show up custom backgrounds as well ?

A:Custom Theme backgrounds doesn't show up.

Welcome to the Seven Forums

It is most likely the theme (I will not install it to test because it is a .exe a good theme will not come that way)
I have Windows Style Builder and those locations are not part of a theme.

You will need to ask the theme maker what going on.

Sorry

Hi,

So, when I am using the Windows lock screen, especially when I am not currently signed in, Windows tends to set my lock screen accent color to purple, much like my wife's account on the computer. She has chosen a purple accent color for her account, which is fine, except that mine is red. Now, this is not really a huge issue, as everything is normal once I have logged in, but the fact that everyone else's account is normal and it isn't assigning that color to any other accounts is extremely annoying. I've just been dealing with it for the past few months and I'm just tired of it.

Does anyone have any possible solutions to this? Or maybe an explanation as to why this would be happening? Thanks.

Hi there. Recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have been experimenting with changing the Lock Screen. I know how to change it manually. The point is, I put the setting to 'Play slide show'. I even told the system to use a picture folder. Maybe I am misunderstanding. I was expecting the lock screen to be different each time. But no change. I even installed Lock Pic. But I noticed it's working with the actual windows settings. It just gives me a different choice of pictures. So what am I doing wrong?

Hello gallicbear,

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens. One is set by the user that is displayed only when they are signed in. The other is the default Lock screen image that is displayed when there are no users signed in.

The lock screen slide show only works on your lock screen when you are still signed in, and not the default one.

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep and shows the lock screen, I click and type in my PIN as normal. But on the lock screen at the top right, there's a Cortana box usually giving an example of what I can do, like 'tap and say remind me to water the plants when I get home'.

The problem is this box stays on the screen after the computer is unlocked, and displays semi-transparently in the top left over all other windows, with the only way to remove it is to double click, have a Cortana window display full screen and then close it.

I'd like to find a way of either fixing this or disabling Cortana from the lock screen altogether as I never use this feature. Any tips would be appreciated.

But, When I create a table and right click -> format cells -> Fill -> background color and then chose a color then OK.
After that I chose all cells of that table (which now has a background color) and the Clear->clear formats.
But the background color also will be cleared. Why? The wrong is with my work or the book's text please?

I cannot see why Clearing cell formats would not clear the Colour formats as well. This would be the logical approach & also why would you want the cell colour remaining if you have cleared the cell format.

I suspect that your 2010 manual may have an error & not your work.

Hello, I am having an issue with an HP Compaq dc5000. Running XP SP3 with 1 GB of ram. I've taken the harddrive out of the defected PC and the HD works perfectly fine in another system. but when I check another harddrive with the defect PC the same problem occurs. The XP logo will appear with the blue scroll bar while loading windows and it'll pause on that screen with the blue scroll bar moving very slowly. After this it will appear to load windows but only the background and no login screen just staying idle. It will boot up in safe mode however. I am out of ideas as to what might be causing the problem. I've tried playing with the RAM but that appears not to be the issue. If anyone has any ideas please let me know because I am content to just diagnose this thing with a MOBO failure...

A:XP logon screen does not show just stays idle.

Before diagnosing it as a mobo failure, open up the case and remove/unplug everything except the boot disk (you've already decided it's not RAM so leave that alone), including any expansion cards in the PCI slots. Specs show it has a built in video so remove any plug in video card and use the internal. Unplug any USB devices, and the 3.5" diskette. Even unplug the mouse. Leave the keyboard & video. That's it.

Set the BIOS where necessary to reflect any changes you made. Reboot. What happens?

Since i don't have XP Recovery disc(It's left back in other country). So I tried downloading xp recovery iso. After steps like burning it, I was able change boot order to the CD/DVD Drive.
I was able to get into the PC DOS, later I used my friends computer to search for solutions to my problem.

I found methods like overwriting, fixing registry and such.

Anyways, here is the big problem, After the Acer Logo Screen, it just load into a black screen with options, I press the one says "Boot Windows since last know good configuration." random codes flash at bottom of the screen. And go to a black screen which nothing will happen.

Before the problem occurred, I used the registry cleaner. I am wondering if that is the problem.

P.S. called my dad to send the XP Recovery Disc to me, and if that doesn't work. The only option is to reinstall XP(which the computer provider did not give me.) or I will have to install the vista disc which my dad will send me if he can't find the recovery disk

Your Help would be greatly appriciated.

Hey everyone

Not going to explain my entire life on here, just a little question.
I want my laptop to have a nice dark theme to it
I have very sensitive eyes and normal brightness hurts very quickly.
So the only way i was able to nicely darken the screen, was to select one of the high contrast themes that comes preloaded with windows 8

and with a darkish desktop background, i think i did pretty well, I will try to post a picture up here so you can see what im talkng about, but im not sure if it will work

so anyway, i locked out of the computer, and took a look at the lock screen and it is this horrid looking dark blue purplish background, almost made me puke. Then i found out that you can change the background image

but

not for high contrast themes.

is there ANY way around this?
I dont care about the contrast, i just want a darker screen, and the only way i was able to achieve such freedom to change window colors and general colors was by selecting the high contrast theme and fiddling around with it.

I saved it as my own theme but theres no tricking this device, it still counts it as high contrast.

Does anybody know if i have any options around this? I have looked around for similar incidents, but nothing has come up yet.

any input is valued, friends

happy holidays.

I have a Laptop with a 120GB Solid State Drive. My primary operating system has been Windows 7 Ultimate. Recently I decided to try and Install Windows 8 Pro Along side windows 7 . Dual Boot. I read about Dual Booting in this Official Windows 8 Magazine and it seemed easy. I ran into a few problems:

I did 25GB's because my 120gb solid state drive was almost full with other windows 7 files and partitions. The problem I ran into was in creating a 'New Simple Volume' and formatting my new 25GB's of space. An Error message saying "not enough memory or space available to perform operation" kept popping up.
Am I getting these error messages because I already have 4 different partitions on my drive? The different partitions were A: Windows 7 OS and Files, B: Windows 7 Hibernation, C: Windows 7 Recovery and D: an unknown 8gb primary partition

2. I decided to delete the Windows 7 Recovery partition, because I have my Windows 7 DVD, and I didn't mind re-installing everything if I were to mess up. Plus my OS doesn't run from that partition, and I'll have room to create my new Windows 8 simple volume. (probably a dumb decision)

3. Disk management didn't want to delete my Recovery partition (probably for good reason) and merge it's free space with my 25GB' partition that I had previously created and was unable to create the New simple volume in. I had to use a 3rd... Read more

Hi! I'm having a lot of complain from my colleagues when i installed the MS Office 2013 not the new features of it but the annoying boring color (White-Grey-Dark Grey). i just want to ask if there's any chance or any possible way we can change the color theme of it into different color.

if there's a way of changing it by using software or any kind of application or by accessing regedit it would be appreciated.

thank you and advanced

A:MS Office 2013 Theme...can we change the color theme?

As far as I know there is no way you can change the colour scheme & I don't know of any 3rd party software to change it either.
I use Office 2013 Pro & while I was not impressed by the colour schemes to begin with, I have got quite used to it. While it is nice to be able to play with colour schemes it does not make it work any better.

I am trying to get into my computer's BIOS setup to change the boot sequence, but the problem is that when I turn on the computer, I can hear the noises that tells me it's loading, but the power button on my monitor is orange. It doesn't show the BIOS screen or the Windows XP loading screen, but the monitor turns on when it gets to the login screen. Does anyone here know what the problem is? I didn't have much luck Googling this problem.

This is a problem I've seen solved in Vista a lot, but isn't something I can find a help thread for at all with Windows 10. :/ I am unable to change the theme color from an icky blue. I can change the desktop, I can enable and disable the color on the Start, taskbar, etc., I can make them transparent. I cannot change the color. If I attempt to click a different accent color, nothing happens. No color change on the preview. No color change anywhere. Just icky blue. :c

I've made sure that the Theme service is running and I've tried installing themes online. Nothing I'm doing is getting this color to change and it's really buggin' me out.

It could have to do with this being an Origin laptop. It was originally Windows 8 when I got it wherein, as an Origin PC, it had a default-installed Origin theme where the accent colors were red and black. I was able to change the desktop background while it was in '8, but I was unable to ever change the accent from red. Now that I have Windows 10, I am not using the Origin-installed theme and my accent is not locked in red but is instead locked in blue. I'm really frustrated, ghgheh. I've not yet attempted a hard refresh of Windows 10, especially seeing as the refresh USB will simply install Win8 again with the Origin-brand-lock, so upgrading to '10 would only be extra time and stress for an issue that is going to happen in '8 and be brought forward again.

Is there a way to force the color scheme to change?

Thank you for any help.

A:Windows 10: Theme Color Not Changing?

The only real setting for color of the taskbar would be thru themes. Download themes that include the color you prefer.
Unless you use High Contrast themes then you can change the colors at will with this shortcut. Color and Appearance shortcut - Create in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums[1]=Shortcuts

I upgraded my PC from 8.1 and I had a black background for the login screen before and after I had upgraded it had grandfathered that background color.
Now that I did an in-place upgrade (to fix some bad windows files), it seems it has taken on the default blue since I have accidentally changed themes. I can't seem to find my old theme from 8.1, or change the background color without changing the accent color.
In 8.1 I was able to set a whole wack of colors to different things, including the login screen independently from the accent color but now it seems impossible
So, how do I change the color on the login screen?

What was Microsoft thinking when they not only made this login (not the lock) background image impossible for a user, using normal means, to change, but also stuck the user with the most hideous looking stock images (those cartoonish images of Seattle, etc)? I finally found different sites that gave elaborate instructions for changing the login background, which I did, but it was quite a messy process.
