driver power state failure

Q: driver power state failure

I have a user whose laptop has been acting up, crashing, freezing, etc. randomly, she was only using word.

Her BSOD happened after awaking from sleep. Error message was "driver power state failure" stop: 0x0000009f (or however many zeros!). She had to pull the battery to get the laptop to restart.

I've attached the SF zip file - any help appreciated!

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

I've been browsing the site and the internet for a sollution to my problem, but can't seem te find it. There are similar postings, but they're always just a little different. So that's why i posted the new thread.

Since a couple of days i've been experiencing troubles shutting down my PC and using my USB ports. It started when i tried to log onto my work from home. It failed and the IT guy from work told me to reinstall citrix reciever. So I did and I was able to work from home. After finishing and logging out (to get back to my own PC) I found that my USB portst didn't work anymore. I tried rebooting, but af 10 minutes of "shutting down" I got a blue screen: Driver Power State Failure with code 1000009f.

I did the following:
- tried system restore - it failed with different time stamps
- update drivers - they were all up to date the system said
- Malware Bytes, CC Cleaner, MS Essentials, Hitman pro - Did them all, had some minor stuff, fixed that, problem remained.
- SFC/scannow - no problems
- Memory check - no problems

As it is now, the only update I have left is the update to WIN10. However it has tried and failed during a few of the reboots, so that doesn't seem to be and option.

After try all different kinds of things from a lot of posts I decided to refresh my windows install. Did a lot of updating and still the problem remains. Although I now found out that USB devices that are plugged in upon startup work. Once I unplug en replug them, t... Read more

So I have a pirated windows 8.1 which I have been using for more than a year now. Since the past one week my drivers ( especially the internet driver) keeps crashing and stops detecting any networks. Upon an attempted restart I get the Bsod for which I have attached the files ( All the minidumps.) I run a Dell 5521 R and have updated the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them too. Kindly help ASAP as I require my wifi urgently tomorrow.
Note: After restart the drivers get refreshed automatically and start working for sometime. And then the same issue. Please help.VATSAL-Tue_02_09_2016_101910_61.zip

Hey, I got some BSOD problems. Do you got time & experience to help me?

I got Windows 8 at the moment, I will install 8.1 shortly. Had 8.1 before i re-installed OS when the first BSOD showed up, so I doubt that 8.1 will fix things completely.

My problems ATM!

- Driver Power State Failure
- Video TDR Failiure (nvlddmkm.sys)
- Screen freezes at start up or when I get to the desktop
- Have to Disable my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M to use the CPU (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43).

Got two other kinds of BSOD before I re-installed windows but don't remember what they said, I just felt like "Hey I need to re-install my OS anyways so w/e". But apparently that didn't solve the problems.

I also gained "NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 340.52 stopped working While playing CS:GO" but that was before I re-installed windows. And now to use my CPU I need to go into Device Manager and shutdown my NVIDIA card to be able to use the CPU and use the Intel card instead. If I don't shut it down my CPU will freeze the screen for days, til I restart or I get a BSOD.

I will buy a can of air and open up my laptop and blow some dust away, perhaps that could help? Perhaps the NVIDIA card is burned/broken and I have to buy a new PC?

I've tried a few different driver for my NVIDIA card also, nothing works.

I'm no computer expert and thats why I'm here begging for help, so if someone could help me out here I would appreci... Read more

Hello,

I would appreciate any help with the following problem: the pc sometimes seemingly randomly shows BSOD with errors named in the title, I also attach corresponding screenshots. The problem wont happen if the PC power is supplied from the adapter AND there is some content running on the screen (video in VLC f.ex.). Other important symptoms are: Can not turn off the laptop. There will be endless blue screen saying shutting down, while PC already stopped working. I also can not get the PC to sleep. If i I go to sleep mode, display turns black, PC is still working on and on and I can not go back to desktop anymore.

Thank you very much for your help.

Recently I've been getting blue-screened every 15 minutes or so with a Driver Power State Error. I'm beginning to get desperate for a solution. Attaching the DMP file seems difficult, as it is over 300MB, somehow. Is there any way to split off the more recent part of it, or an easy upload service where I could send it?

I used a program called Bluescreenview to make a text file out of the most recent dump... I think. Here's the text file it gave me.

It seems this is a pretty common occurance lately. 2 Days ago I updated my Vista Home Premium with SP2 and since then it has been crash after crash.. Right now I am lucky if I can go an hour before a crash. It started 5 minutes after installing sp2 with the error message Bugcode_USB_Driver and a bunch of numbers, I got online direct with microsoft and allowed them access to my computer and they deleted all drivers and reinstalled and updated..etc.etc.
After that I was good for about 6 hours then I started crashing with the Driver_Power_State failure. I have not installed any other new hardware or software.
My Specs are: HP Pavillion TX1000US 2GB ram...not sure what else u need.
This is making me crazy....This is the 3rd time I tried to post but my system freezes up.. Everytime it is going to crash my mouse and keyboard lock up, both are wireless devices.
I have tried to zip my 21 minidump files but no matter what I do it is always empty.

Please help... this is the first time I have ever posted anything and I hope I am in the right place...

I had the same problem. Try uninstalling the "HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection" drivers. I did that and my HP is running more smoothly now, but it was easy getting rid of the old drivers. I had to manually copy the new "HP 3d Driveguard" drivers to replace the old Protectsmart drivers. Good luck.

Hi

We need to collect some basic info to analyze and find the reason behind the crashes. So please follow the below steps.

Upload the crash dumps for analysis

Open C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy and  zip the entire contents of that folder and upload to any free file hosting site of your choice. You may have to disable User Account Control to copy them.

  Example file hosting sites :

  https://www.box.com/

  http://www.mediafire.com/

  http://www.sendspace.com

Post the download link to the dumps in next reply.

A Speccy report about your system

Generate a report about your system using Speccy by reading the guide below. Make sure to run the Speccy after running the system about one or more hour. This will give us an indication of current CPU -GPU temperature status.

   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Post the web link displayed by Speccy in next reply.

A Minitoolbox log

Download Minitoolbox from the below link.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors

The last two days my Acer Extensa 5420 Laptop will just go to a blue screen and it will state "Driver_Power_State_Failure" and begin dumping physical memory. Once it's done that, it will restart and it will take over 30 minutes sometimes to get Windows Vista to come back on. The green "loading" bar will come on, and then a black screen with no cursor or anything will stay on for all that time. Sometimes I have to restart it or do a hard shut down and start it for it to EVENTUALLY come back up.
I checked the updates, and everything except a Windows Live Essentials is already updated.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I run an online business, and if I don't have this computer, I have no income.

Thanks!!

I have seen a lot of similar "Power State" failures on computers using wireless when returning from sleep or idle.

Your minidumps, which are all the same as below, seems to confirm this >>

I would try updating the wireless drivers, if one is available, or get something from a different vendor.

A removal and reinstall alone may also just work.

Hello,
I've been getting the BSOD for Windows 8 since I've downloaded it. I purchased the digital copy online from Microsoft, but don't have a CD to do a reinstall, and really would hope to avoid wiping all my files. Sometimes I go weeks without getting the error, but I want to fix it once and for all. It always happens upon my PC "reawakening". Attached is the most recent Minidump https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=12EC8E4E1EFCF023!575&authkey=!ACvFmfUZxRKkwgM

If you have your upgrade key you can enter it HERE and download the upgrade again. If I remeber correctly they Give the option[or did before] to put the software on a USB drive.

A couple of days ago I did a Windows 10 64-bit "clean install" on my Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop, and it has been running well, basically. However, I did experience a Driver Power State Failure on startup today. It immediately reached 100% complete in collecting error info, but did not restart after (as it said it would). I waited for approximately 10 minutes more and then manually rebooted. It came up fine.

Going forward, I am not sure what I should be doing to correct the situation. If someone has recommendations, I would be appreciative.

By "clean install", I mean I upgraded from 7 to 10 - then I did a computer recovery - reset this pc, at which time I told it to remove all my personal files and applications. I think I have 4 GB of ram, but quite frankly, the system information screen has changed; and even digging into the Device Manager information leaves me no less confused about what is installed. So I hope this is enough of the basics for someone to give me a basic next step.

Thank you,
Minderbinder

If it doesn't pop back up, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sometimes drivers can fail every once in a while.

My desktop just crashed and all I could get was "Driver_Power_State_Failure" off the BSOD before it went down.

Now when I hit the power button I get NO VIDEO OUTPUT at all, so I can't even turn it on. I was thinking about trying to turn it on w/o a monitor and get in over the network to get the dump files but being as I have no video I can't logon so it won't get to the homegroup for me to do that. Unfortunately this is all the information I have.

A:Driver Power State Failure

Guys I solved the problem, or at least located it and found a temporary fix.

It appears my video card bit the dust and I solved the problem by routing the monitors directly to the motherboard connectors and removing the video card.

3 years running on the card, I think I got my $100 worth.

We have been getting the blue screen of death very intermittently over the past several weeks and aren't aware of any new hardware or software that has been installed to cause any issue. Below is the full technical information. Does anyone know what is causing

So I have an Asus ROG laptop and I've recently started having some issues with it, one of them being this driver state power failure bsod. Its happened 3 times now in the past two weeks.

I haven't exactly nailed down what causes it, but I've done some research and most places suggest updating drivers and BIOS to fix it.

The first issue I'm having with this is that I'm unable to update my BIOS. I've got the file downloaded from the Asus website, I put it on a flash drive and tried to use the EZ Flash 3 utility to update the BIOS but it doesn't see the flash drive. In fact it doesn't see any drive at all except for one 256 MB partition on the main hard drive (laptop has an SSD and 2nd hard drive for storage). I've tried formatting the drive in FAT32 as old documentation suggested it might need that but still no luck. I've tried several flash drives and no luck. I read that USB 3.0 might be the problem, but the laptop only has 3.0 ports. So not sure what I can do about that if that is the actual problem.

Some other additional information, a few days ago I noticed my power brick for charging the laptop got extremely hot as it was under some blankets and such. How long that was going on I don't know. Could the charger be the problem? When it BSOD'd a couple hours ago it was shortly after I unplugged it (30 seconds-ish). But this did crash before I noticed the power brick issue so I don't know if its been a thing for that long or not.

Also I did update my video card... Read more

I am not sure what is causing this problem, by laptop is about 3 months old. When it comes out of sleep mode I get a message saying- "Your PC ran into a problem,This problem caused your PC to restart"
I had thought it was solved as it happened more frequently around 2weeks about then I updated drivers and the problem was gone. But it seem to have reappeared. I am not the most computer savvy, and would appreciate your help :) here is a copy of the minidump

The two were Related to Rt630x64.sys 8101E/8168/8169 NDIS 6.30 64-bit Driver from Realtek. Yours is ~ 2 years old.

I would re-install the newest driver available. If you continue to crash I would remove AVG and use the built in defender.

If you are under warranty and continue to crash I would consider having them fix it.

I keep getting a BSOD upon getting back onto my computer after it hasn't been used for a while (I just leave it on all the time). I checked around on the Microsoft home site and I'm reading that it might be an issue with using IEEE devices and that I should download a new service pack or something. I was looking around elsewhere and other people are saying that it might be an issue with the hd, and that I need to backup all my files and recover it before it fails.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to deal with this issue?

Thanks

Update drivers in red. Run System File Checker. Remove Alcohol 120 and/or Daemon Tools if using them.

I have a 5 month old Lenovo Thinkpad, Win 32, Vista Basic, SP2 with all updates done. It and a desktop operate on my wireless private home network via a Linksys WRT160N router. On Oct. 2 I added a 1TB My Book World Edition as an auto backup drive and installed Western Digital software on the laptop only. My Book is connected via USB cable to the router. So far, the laptop isn't correctly loading or recognizing or connecting with the Western Digital drives, so no backups. While I'd like to solve that problem, the BSoD is first priority and may be related to the WD install.

I'm unclear about the connection between the events because the first mini dump was Sept. 29, before the WD install. Since Oct. 22, there have been frequent unexpected shutdowns, usually while the laptop is asleep. At various times my apps software has frozen (Word, Outlook) and the shutdown cycle then takes about 10 minutes. The script when recovering from an unexpected shutdown on Oct. 28 was:

A:Driver State Power Failure

Hello JimPA and welcome to TSF!

You may try these:

1.) Restart your computer Tap F8 and select Last Known Good Command Config and see if everything goes back to normal.
2.) If No. 1 is unsuccesful try uninstalling the WD software
3.) Do you have the 1 TB backup hooked up to your laptop? Unplug it
4.) Maybe you'll need your RAM upgraded
5.) If none of these works, since it's only 5mos old, it's under warranty, I would contact Lenovo.
