Network connectivity between 2 Active-Active data centers

Q: Network connectivity between 2 Active-Active data centers

Hello, I am trying to find out what kind of network connectivity is typically required between 2 Active-Active data centers? (Keeping in mind the global traffic management would be required between the 2 sites and all the traffic would typically be coming to Site A first though Akamai).

We currently have a GigE (provided by InterNap) coming to our data center.

Thanks,

Sam.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone,

I'm working on deploying Windows 7 Pro into my office and one of the problems I've come across is that, when a window opens on a dual screen system it opens centered on the two screens. This leaves one half of the window on one screen and half on the other screen. While this doesnt sound like a major problem, my test user is getting every non full screen window opening split between the two screens. Has anyone seen this kind of behavior before?

A:Dual screen centers the active window

I've had dual screens for quite a while, and seldom see that.
Usually the box pops up on the primary screen.

Hi,
I've been fighting with some sort of redirect virus. Checked my computer with Malwarebates in Safe MOde, Normal Mode, etc. It did find some viruses but removed them and nothing is present anymore. I also checked my comp with BitDefender online scanner, SuperAntiSpyware, HijackTHis. They don't find any viruses. Computer works fast, although aftre all this checking and removal I found that sometimes when I click two windows too fast it locks and I have to reboot it by reset button.
Now the annoying part is that when I do Google search it still redirects me to various random sites. I also found that when I disable active scripting it does not do that, but then I cannot view YOuTube movies, etc.
Is ther a way to analyze and search for scripts that cause this. I assume it's just some stupid script that gets activated when I'm on line, because none of the AV programs I use finds any viruses anymore.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

A:Google redirect? No viruses found but active when active scripting enabled

Could you please post the log files from all the programs you ran? (MBAM and SUPERantispyware) Do NOT post the Hijackthis log.

Hi everybody,

I am new here and actually after I checked different contributions, I liked the place, it's really helpful, and I hope to be a permanent member. Well, I am new to VBA, and I just got a macro that runs on active open sheet, then I need to run the same macro, but this time on more than a file/ sheet (actually it's a big number, like 1000+), closed and already saved in a folder. I would pretty appreciate if anyone helps me to add the necessary code ( which will direct the macro to : focus on a specific folder in a specific location (e.g. E:\myfolder) , then run on every excel file in that folder, and to save every file before close , doing that until the last file in that folder .. that's it .. Any help?

Many thanks

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit, but I think for this question I'm guessing it doesn't matter what computer I have. My utility Secunia has the Data Dynamics Active Bar listed as at end of life and no longer supported by the vendor and I should update it or uninstall it. It's not listed in the "Add, Uninstall" program list and I haven't been able to understand what people are saying on the Secunia forums. There's a lot of technical jargin that I don't understand and don't want to delete the file until I'm absolutely sure it won't mess up something. I went to the Data Dynamics web site and was completely lost there. Way to technical for me.
My questions are: Can someone explain its function in simple English? Do I need it, and if I don't can I just delete the file located here-C\Windows\System32\Actbar.ocx, version 1.0.65
Thanks for any help.

Hey, I'm about to pull my hair out. Perhaps you could help me.

I'm in an Active Directory environment with Windows XP machines running roaming profiles. We're upgrading to Windows 7 machines, and this begins the problem. I've joined the Windows 7 machines to the domain, and they allow users to log on, but migrating their profiles is not working properly.

I've attempted to deploy four machines so far. On two of them, I got the profiles to work. They don't work as they used to, where a local folder would be synced to the server; now the folders are accessed directly from the server, thus syncing is not necessary (ie. My Documents = \\main_server\User_Profiles\user\My Documents). I don't mind this at all, it's great.

The problem is getting Windows 7 to freaking do this. The users can always login, the question is whether the old profile data (Desktop/My Documents/etc...) loads. One machine worked with no hitches. Another required three reboots to migrate the profile settings. Now, the other two machines I'm using just create a blank profile and no amount of reboots make the profile convert. I don't see any difference in how I deployed the machines.

My question is how can I make the remaining Windows 7 machines convert their profile settings without infinite reboots and making myself bald?

-Eric

I had an external HDD put in as an external HDD, but for some reason it is marked as active (when connected with my normal HDDs windows will not boot), can I make it inactive WITHOUT loosing all the data (It has only my movie collection ripped from DVD on it) nothing else. I only found out the other day when I replaced my PSU with a new one, and windows would not boot until I disconnected it. (after having it connected without a problem for about 2 years).

A:Make an Active drive non-active

In a standard Windows PC, the active partition would be C, or System Reserved if you have that partition. Do you have both of those partitions and is either of them marked "active"?

The active flag has nothing to do with data.

A screen shot of Windows Disk Management would help.

Do HitmanPro and Zemana Antimalware need active data connection for scanning?

A:Do HitmanPro and Zemana Antimalware need active data connection for scanning?

Realtime protections would require being connected.
If used as secondary scanners, you would connect in order to update their database files.
Additionally, here is an excerpt of a thread from bleepingcomputer.com :

"...Zemana has partnered with SurfRight, and incorporated SurfRight's proven Hitman Pro 3 technology into Zemana Anti-Malware. Zemana Anti-Malware was designed to be used in conjunction with other malware-fighting programs."
Read more: Had Zemana antimalware real time protection on while also having Emsisoft on - Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Privacy Software

I recommend taking advantage of the benefits of UAC (User Activated Control) by using it set (at least) to default.
In addition, you might consider
VoodooShield? - The User-Friendly Toggling Computer Lock.

Am I correct in noting you do not have realtime protections because you opt not to be connected online?

Either way, thank you for sharing & allowing us to share with you.

Hi

my computer is only 4 days old, it is a Win 7 Professional 64 bit OEM system with 4 gig ram 1TB HDD, i use it as the main PC on a network via a cable router, although never all on at once the network has a second desktop Win XP home SP3 (my wifes) which generally is in use in the late evening till midnight, there is also a laptop which is ocassionally used on the network Win XP prof SP3. at the moment my old PC is also connected at times to transfer a lot of the data on it to the new PC tha is also win XP prof SP3 (all the extra PCs are 32bit).

I have experienced 11 or 12 BSOD,s in the last 3 days and looking at threads all over the web it seems it may be related to Zonealarm and or the network but i cannot read the crash dumps to find out what is the cause, i cannot swear to it but i believe all BSODs occurred when one of the other PCs was also live and connected to the home network.

my antivirus is AVG free,

Zonealarm is the paid version which i have been using for years on all the PCs on the network.

ZoneAlarm version: 10.0.241.000
vsmon version: 10.0.241.000
Driver version: 10.0.217.000
ZoneAlarm Browser Security: 1.5.311.0
ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Scanner: 1.5.53.235
ZoneAlarm ForceField Anti-Phishing Database: 1.2.104.0
ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Sites Database: 04.155

i do hope you can shed some light on this

Many thanks

I use my company notebook for working from home and connect through our corporate VPN. Is it possible to create a second connection outside of the vpn? Our corporate network blocks access to sites like vonage.com, techguy.org, forums, photo sharing sites, etc. I use many of these sites throughout the day and have to keep disconnecting the vpn, use the sites I need, then re-establish vpn. Is there a way to create a second virtual connection outside of the vpn? If I were using my desktop, I know I could just install a second nic, but can't on the notebook. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks

A:Can I have two active network connections with VPN?

Probably not. The whole point of the VPN connection is to protect the company from direct exposure to the big bad Internet. If you have another connection while the VPN is connected, you totally bypass that protection.

Most VPN clients disable other network connections for that reason.

Now, before I removed the wireless card, my ethernet was connected as well and it ran fine!

When I look at my active networks, the ethernet one is listed, but it has the NAME of my wireless connection! I think they are getting confused. Now, how do I remove that network profile and make a new one? I cannot find any way to delete it and start over.

Otherwise I am stumped. My PC manufacturer wants me to reload Windows, which I really shouldn't have to do here.

Hi everyone,
I have several anti-spyware and antivirus installed, I have ZoneAlarm installed too, and the other day, it popped out a message about a new network connected to my system (router isn't wireless), I thought it could be a kind of attack or something similar, and so disconnected the router, changed the password rebooted and tried again, the network was still there and impossible to remove according to ZoneAlarm since it was in use, then I unplugged telephone line from router, rebooted and network was still there, so I started thinking that it was something within the computer willing to connect to somewhere, retried once again unplugging the wire from computer to router, rebooted and the network disappeared, then plugged net wire to computer (with telephone line still unplugged) and the network reappeared.

I went through all the scans I could think of, from AVG antivirus, Spybot, as well as ZoneAlarm built in AntiSpyware-Antivirus, yet nothing, in fact after that I no longer can connect to the internet using that computer. If you have a restore point to rollback to, use it.
Otherwise, you could try using SFC(System File Checker), which replaces corrupt system files (I don't know if this applies to the internet settings in question). Start > Run > cmd > Type in sfc /scannow

So here's my weird problem I don't understand at all:

When I am running a VPN server on x64 Ultimate, my network adapter takes about 5 minutes to disable. This is especially annoying when putting my computer to sleep as it takes 5 minutes to suspend while the VPN server is running. Disabling the Routing and Remote Access Service under services.msc and restarting the computer fixes the problem, as does deleting the incoming connection from Network Connestions (must still restart). Now for the weird stuff:

If the computer is connected directly to a cable modem, the problem does not occur. If the computer is connected to my WRT54g with STOCK firmware, the problem also does not seem to occur. With ddwrt v24 SP2 the problem does occur. If the computer is connected to my WRT54g with tomato, the problem occurs. If the computer is connected to a DIR655 gigabit router with stock firmware, the problem occurs.

I have tried various network cards with different chipsets (realtek, intel, dlink), always updating to the latest drivers and the problem occurs when connected to the router I want to be using (wrt54g w/tomato or dir655 w/stock firmware - latest updates applied, of course). I don't want to use ddwrt, it's performance is fairly poor.

My question is: WHAT THE HECK? How can whichever router I have connected make a difference in how long my network card takes to disable. And only when a VPN server is running on vista? Any help is appreciated figuring out how to go about even diag... Read more

I guess that I don't know what you mean by "restore." System restore in XP? Restore CDs or partition?

Have you tried simply deleting the listed device...then rebooting and reinstalling the drivers for the system NIC?

System manufacturer and model?

but not this time, i am getting "No active network Adapters Found" on networking tab of task manager.

here's what i've tried doing so far ;

1. did system restore . . *same issues

2. tried my LAN internet with other laptop.. *worked

3. reset Winsock, * same

4. checked device manager window, under network adapters, clicked view
show hidden devices, there are no adapters which are in question or exclamation point on it. . .

* i got one in question under other devices though, and if i expand that, there is ethernet controller which is in question

5. i went under properties of network adapter, then uninstalled the driver,

6. did PING 127.0.0.1, got reply with 0 loss

Sounds like you are missing the drivers for your NIC card. That "ethernet controller" with a ? is the problem.

You need to load the correct drivers for the Ethernet NIC.

Hi Tech Guys,

Have read a few posts with similar prob but not the answer. Have an old Pent 3 desktop - For some time now the network adapter seems to crash.. mid download etc it will fall over.

The problem is if I check internet connection ( thru control panel) all good.. blue.. and active. If i try and repair it , it can't and tells me to contact provider or manufacturer. Lap top is fine so no problem with modem or router.

Usually can fix problem by restarting PC and then it will suddenly detect Adapter which I can check in task Manager. Unfortunatley I have restarted it several times and won't detect adapter... only variable I can detect is from the time we got the Arris modem thru our provider I have often needed to have the ethernet and the USB plugged in for the SURECOM adapter to be detected.. however this confuses the modem.. and randomly crashed our whole system.

Should also add that in Device Manager no yellow ! or probs and when I attempt to update driver it suggests the current drive is the best match... My provider has suggested it may be a hardware prob as in the network card may be dying... do you think this is the likely prob... we are only on 512 speed in the process of upgrading to the new faster speeds here in OZ ... and I am worried the old think might just blow up in protest.. any ideas as to why it will work when I have both USB and ethernet and where the real prob may lie???

Can't thank you enough for this service

Being the victim of a google redirect virus, I had finally decided enough was enough.
I googled a way to get rid of it, bringing me to a site to download TDSSkiller.
I had ran the thing, deleted some stuff and it was gone! But upon restart I had no way to connect to the Internet on my desktop (the computer I used TDSS on.)
I can connect fine on laptops in the house except the desktop

I have also system restored to a few days earlier but the problem is still there..

When I CTRL+ALT+DEL what used to show some things for networking are gone. I believe it used to saw some McAfee thing and local area connection.

I check Device Manager and notice some things have a Code 39! Don't recall that from before.. Here's a list :
TAP VPN Adapter
Belarc SMBios Access
IP Network Address Translator
NextSensor Kernal I/O Driver
oreans32
Serial
TCP/IP Protocol Driver
Here are a list of items that were deleted in TDSS :

Hello, everyone. I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP 3. I started up my computer, i get the error message, "No Active Network Adapters Found" under the Networking tab of the Task Manager, and now I can't get on the internet even though it'll show that I'm connected. The Network Adapters section in the Device Manager isn't reporting any problems.

However, there's also another problem that occurs simultaneously: now, while my computer's booting up, if I keep re-opening the Task Manager, it'll literally take about 5 minutes to populate the "User Name" column under the Processes tab. In addition, if I try looking at My Computer, nothing will appear and the searchlight will come up for these 5 minutes. I'm not sure if this and the network adapter problem are interconnected, but I figured I'd mention this too.

Thanks in advance for any help provided! Please let me know if any other information is needed. Thanks again!

A:No Active Network Adapters Found

What is listed under Network Adapters in Device Manager? What, if any, warnings or errors are in Device Manager?

Please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi all

I've been stuggling with this problem for a bit now, but at the place I work they are starting to want to use different languages such as Urdu, but when I got that sorted out for them they said it was to confusing to use the short cut keys and wanted to have the language bar. I looked over the the list of allows and disallows but I could not find anything disallowing the language bar.

Any ideas

Hi eberybody,

ok, so I'm working on a client's pc, it's a custom built, XP pro that was infected with viruses, trojans and malware. After cleaning with malware bytes, ESET, Kaspersky, avast, rskill, combofix I can't get the machine to connect to the internet. when I go into device manager and click on show hidden services, there's a "!" on the TCP/IP network. when I go into the details there's an option to start the service manually but I immediately get an error that it cannot be started. Here's the things i've doen so far.

Update onboard ehternet driver ( Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000)
Try to reset TCP/IP via CMD.exe
netsh itn ip reset resetlog.txt
I've copied over the Winsock and Winsock2 from a good working xp machine
I've tried a few freewares from Microsoft website
I tried resotoring tcp/ip settings in safe mode
I ran System repair console form the win xp install cd
Manually try to start tcp/ip service from dev manager and from system services from the control panel

....and nothing! even though the activity lights are blinking like crazy. i'm going crazy pulling my hair out at a loss of what else to do. My last resort is to do a complete format.

Please help

Thank you!

I am running Win10 on a desktop PC with all updates in place and Norton Security up and running. without any installs I have the often reported problem of a 100% active disk freezing the PC. The difference in my case is it happens ONLY when I plug in the ethernet cable OR a Wifi USB dongle OR the ethernet cable with a USB network adapter. After insert it takes 1-3 sec till disk usage goes up from 0-5% to 100% and the PC is more or less not usable any more.
When I disconnect the network it takes around 20 sec then disk usage goes down from 100 to 0-5 again. Network is OK as I am using wifi and ethernet with other (same WIN 10 same Norton setup) devices.

I tried each and (nearly) every solution I found on the net (full Norton scan, Google-Skype issue, search disabled, superfetch disabled, startup programs reduced, notifications disabled, fixed DNS, paging size corrected) but no improvement at all

I thought that maybe the network adapter could cause the problem, but using the USB wifi dongle or the USB ethernet connector should be a workaround, or?

Any ideas out there?
many thanks

Hello all,

For some time I was wondering about having a domain at home. I tried unsuccessfully before. Then later on I turned my optiplex gx520 that was in my room into a home server. While Windows Home Server 2011 is great for file storage and the like, playing around with the server manager got me going again. I had a laptop that I wasnt using as much do to the disk drive not working too well, so I decided to install Server 2008 R2. Before I go any further, let me start with my network and goal.

Network/ Devices
A Comcast modem feeds our internet connection to a Belkin N600DB router.
The router services various devices, which include:
One Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
One laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
One laptop connected to a HDTV Running Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (This is a stationary computer; the screen is shot)
Another Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64
One Desktop turned Server running Windows Home Server 2011
One PlayStation 3
Two Apple iPods
And of course the laptop running Server 2008 R2

Goal:To install and configure an Active Directory Domain to service my Windows 7 Ultimate Machines. I know that Windows 7 HP and WHS cant join a domain. Here's where a possible challenge comes in. My father will get angry if he isn't on the internet. Due to this, I need to be able to have certain devices be able to connect to the internet without being on the domain. I will leave it at this for now. Before I go any further, I need to know if ... Read more

A:Active Directory on a home network... Possible?

A machine doesn't have to be on a domain to get to the internet. So, no concerns with those other machines.

I think it unwise to run a domain controller though on a laptop. You really want this on a machine that will be up 24x7. Laptop isn't really a robust solution for this.

Active wireless network has no profile in Manage wireless networks:

When I go to Manage wireless networks, Windows does not show my active network. When I try to manually create a profile for it and enter all pertinent data, it states "access denied". How do I gain access?

In XP, Windows automatically connected to network on boot up. Now I have to manually type in Key Code each time before it will connect. Is there a way to configure Windows 7 to store the Key Code and auto connect to the network on boot?

In order to gain as much control as possible the quickest possible way, I downloaded and installed the registry key GrantAdminFullControl which allows you to right click any folder and select Grant Admin Full Control for that folder. Also, unhide hidden files in Folder Options so I could arrange, name and catagorize folders in the Start Menu for all users. I right-clicked every folder and subfolder on computer to gain as much control as Windows would allow. Also, turned off UAC temporarily which trying to resolve the above problem.

Still get "access denied". I feel that if I could manually add a profile for my network, I could find an option that would allow Windows to remember my Key Code so that when I boot computer, it would auto sign in and connect to wireless without necessity of manually typing key code each time.

The router people tried for over an hour to resolve problem. Says problem is on Microsoft side, and I ... Read more

Hello, first post and hope that I might be able to get help here for a problem that is driving me crazy. Many thanks for taking the time to read below...

I wish to connect to my Homegroup. Win 7 says that I cannot as my location must be set to "Home". So I follow the link "What is a network location".

The next dialogue box says that I have no active networks so I click "Connect to a Network", which brings up the pop-up in the bottom right stating I'm not connected but there are connections available. The problem is - I AM CONNECTED and the internet is working perfectly fine in fact.

How can I get Windows to recognise my active connections, show me the icon for the network, and allow me to select home, work or private? As it stands, I just go on a merry round-about between these two dialogue boxes and never get any other options. Perhaps I need to go in to advanced options?

If it makes any difference, the Homegroup and the Network previously worked perfectly until I was asked to test another router by hooking it up to my laptop. Maybe I selected something other than Home at this point? I don't know. But since then it's been having this problem.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help.
Many thanks.

A:Win 7. Cannot connect to a network, no active network, but I'm online!

Hello,
Welcome to SevenForums. What you may want to try is disabling and then re-enabling your wireless network adapter. Do this by going to Control Panel--->Network and Internet--->Network and Sharing Center--->Change adapter Settings--->Right click your wireless network adapter and click disable, wait about 60 seconds and then enable it. Hope this helps

Hi

We have three PCs connected on a network. One is dual boot with Win7 and Win10 (very recently sorted with help from Gregrocker) whilst the other two are both Win7 only with no System Reserved partition. What I want to do is to have both latter PCs with a System Reserved partition and remove the boot files from the OS partition. I know most people seem to want to go the other way but I believe there may be advantages when the time comes to remove Win7 and use Win10 only.

I've been going through the motions of creating a System Reserved partition of size around 100MB (without actually doing it - I can't use Bitlocker and I use TrueImage to backup/restore). However, it goes a bit further than just creating the partition as I have to get the boot files into it. I believe I have to mark the partition as active which would mean the OS partition would become inactive. I would then have to do three repair installs to get the boot files into the System Reserved partition.

I would appreciate it if someone would confirm this or put me right where my thinking is in error. I look forward to hearing from someone on this.

Thanks
Tracey

I'd be curious to know what you think the advantages to this would be "when the time comes to remove Win7 and use Win10 only".

You appear to be on the right track if you want to go through with it, although I can't recall anyone else who wanted to do this. You might investigate the EasyBCD tutorial on this site which is used to copy boot files---typically in the other direction as you mention. I'm not positive, but I'd assume it could be used to copy them in the direction you prefer.
