Q: How to Disable Search for Bio metric Device on Windows 7 Start up?

When ever I go to log on to my Dell Latitude E7440 with windows 7 Professional x64 I get an error screen saying that windows could not find a bio metric device. This is true because my computer does not have a fingerprint reader on it. I was wondering if anyone could help me so i don't have to sit through my computer looking for the device and not finding it every time I go to log in. TIA

Hi guys..
hope you all will be fine.. guys today I m seen a new kind of problem in win seven. every time when windows seven starts, the audio device is disable and the speaker Icon is marked with red cross..

and when I single left click on speaker icon, a diagnostics windows appear and detecting problem....

then in couple of minutes, the diagnostics wizard complete and its fix the problem and enable the audio device..

Hello techguys,
I need to be able to disable (temporarily) the automatic device driver search in my winxp sp3. I need to do this because I need to update my WP7 and during the installation I get an error that it can't find my device; i keep on getting the error 801812C1. Right now i works perfectly when I connect it via my Zune software without the update, i can synchronize well. I have read some comments on other websites that i could disable the driver search and allow the installation to flow.

Also when I go the mms gpedit.msc, this is all what i see...

Some things are missing, like the system category under Administrative templates.

Hello,
We have enabled the Guest Account on a Tablet which is running on Windows 8.1. We are using Group policy settings to restrict access for the Guest User. We have hidden the Address bar on IE for the Guest User so that the user will not
be able to access any other online sites. But the user is able to access these sites through the Search box on the Start menu. Hence, we need to hide the Search box displayed on the Start menu for the Guest User. Could you let us know how can we achieve this?
NOTE:
We were given a suggestion to try a Registry setting NoFind under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer, but it did not work.

Hello everyone,

on the start screen how can I disable/remove/hide the search icon next to the user avatar and user name?

I have seen so many screenshots floating around that are not showing the icon but I can't find and group policy that would remove this search box or icon.

What I already tried to do is turning off the WSearch service and several group policy settings but none worked. Another thread here mentioned deleting Windows.Shell.Search.UriHandler.dll and Windows.UI.Search.dll but I am not sure if thats a good idea to do so. Did anybody try this?

What is doing the trick? Thanks a lot,

By default search in windows explorer begins as you type - it doesn't wait you to finish typing.
I hate that and I want to begin search only when I want that (when finished typing the whole string) - by pushing search lens button on the right for example.

hey guys,

sorry about the goofy title I was trying to get as much in as possible. I have recently built a custom system for music storage, gaming, and word processing....

I have been having tons of problems with this system! One of my ram sticks was bad (after I tried 2 different xp install disks I figured it was a hardware problem..), my netgear card isn't working or is just a P.O.S. and now my graphics card is giving me headaches.

The graphics card I am running is a EVGA 7600gs, 256mb - PCI express (it was a good deal at the time)...

When I boot up the computer and enter windows the graphics card doesn't work and I am running off the stock drivers from XP...

If I go to the device manager I get a "Device cannot start (code 10)" message.

After uninstalling and installing the drivers various times, and updating the drivers with new releases from Nvidia, its still not working properly.

It will work right after I install the drivers for it, but if I restart my computer, it won't work again.

I figured out that if I restart my computer and go to device manager and click "disable" and the click "enable" the graphics card works fine but won't allow me to adjust any settings for a few minutes or until after I run a game like Metal of Honor, or Battlefield.

Does anybody know what gives?

Can anyone tell me how to disable and/or hide the Search Box on the Windows 7 Start Menu with group policy?  I'm creating group policies to lock down the desktop so that users may select only a couple of shortcuts on the Start Menu: they don't need
the Search Box.  I've figured out how to lock down pretty much everything else, but there isn't any obvious setting to make the Search Box go away entirely.  Thanks in advance for your time and help in these regards.

Hello!
Got a problem with Vlan's, I have created 2 different Vlan on Realtek or intel network card.
Work ok, virtual cards getting the correct IP address, but Windows 8 using DNS server from virtual network card  who has the lowers metric.
PC show takes DNS server setting from Vlan200 with metric 5 but instead, he using the DNS server from Vlan37 with metric 22.
Maybe someone know how can I fix this issue?
On Windows 10 don't have this problem.

I have had windows 7 for a few weeks and every time the PC is rebooted the Metric for both the Lan (172.17) and Wifi(192.169)goes back to 20, the Lan is set to Automatic and the wifi is set to 10, has anybody seen this problem before?

Sounds quite bizzare, Windows assigns a lower metric to the gateway it can communicate the fastest with, but in this case both have been assigned 20.
If you've manually assigned a gateway and metric you should see that in the list of persistent routes.

We are trying to prevent our users from running various commands that we don't specifically approve. We have implemented Applocker, but that doesn't prevent the user from running commands beginning with rundll32.exe or regsrv32.exe. In previous versions of Windows the group policy setting "Remove Run menu from Start Menu" was sufficient. But in Windows 10, when a user starts typing any command in search, even with that GP setting enforced, the command runs.

Is there any way to prevent this? It is a significant security issue, and I am surprised that Windows 10, which is generally more secure, in this issue is actually less so.

If not, is there at least a way I can prevent access to the search field? I've already found it on the task bar (even if I set it to "hidden", the user can switch it back to "show search icon" or "show search box"), in the alphabetical list of programs (under "Search") and via the Windows+S and Windows+Q hotkeys.

Hi guys .

My Windows XP home dont open , last nite I was making a roll back of a driver of ULi sata 5289 and was ok , then I went to the device manager to chek the status of my driver and accidentally I disable teh device ( I know.... me bad ) now my windows give me the screen of safe mode choice , but when i try to open safe mode , it comes back to this screen , windows try to open but its on loop , how can I get there and enable again the device ? or I need to boot into my CD and fix windows?

Hello,

I have following hardware setup for live video broadcasts:

- Multiple cameras connected to a video mixer
- The mixer connected to a DV-recorder which records the material in full quality and converts it to digital format
- The recorder connected to a computer via firewire
- The computer broadcasts video to a media server

And the problem is:
If I have the DV-recorder recording when I launch WME (I have spesific profiles for encoding), it always has device controls on. If I press "start encoding"-button, WME stops the recorder and puts it to play mode. I know that this can be avoided by disabling device controls in WME, but this setting cannot be saved to encoding profile and is always on when WME is started.

Is there any possibilities (command-line parameters?) which could be used to disable device controls or save the setting to a profile?

My problem is, pretty much, the mouthy thread title. I recently got rid of my Audigy SE soundcard (poor driver support, mediocre soundcard, etc) and am using my motherboard's onboard. It's functioning perfectly, all set up and everything, but everytime I reboot my computer, it (my motherboard) will (as my motherboard's BIOS tells it to, I cannot change this) disable the onboard sound device completely and only detect my graphics card as a sound device.

I uninstalled the AMD Audio drivers through Catalyst but Windows 7, being rather clever, picks my graphics card up as a sound device anyway. To fix the problem I either simply restart my computer again (what's the point of an SSD if you have to reboot twice anyway?) and have a 80% chance that my onboard is detected again or I go into device manager, uninstall device, and the next boot up is fine. I tried using a group policy but Windows 7 still managed to sneak around.

The problem is, of course, that after the next boot it will install itself and so the vicious cycle continues. I tried google but none of it seemed to apply to me.

The only way I know of disabling the video card's audio portion is by going into Device Manager and setting it as disabled.

This happened to me when I found out that displayPort sends audio and video ala HDMI over the same wire on my HTPC.

So, right-click 'Computer' in the 'Start' menu, click 'Manage', then go into 'Device Manager' on the left and drill down to the 'Sound, video and game controllers' option on the right. Expand it by clicking the '+', then right-click the audio device you want to disable and click 'Disable'.

I would reboot the computer and test things out to make sure the video side is still working.

Windows 8.1, when on home or work (non-public) network setting, loves to sniff out any new computer or device added to the network. This is making me crazy. Anyone aware of a setting that tells Windows 8 to NOT sniff out any new added networked device? I have a question that I can't find the answer for, I've been searching like crazy but keep finding the same responses which have in my case proven useless.
The situation is this: I have one router and one computer, the computer has two network interface cards which are both connected to the router and given IP addresses. I have made the metrics in Windows such that normal traffic SHOULD always choose NIC 1 and I have in the application "Tixati" set it manually to use NIC 2. I have then set my firewall to only allow the application "Tixati" to use NIC 2 while blocking it from using NIC 1. So in theory everything on my computer should use NIC 1 except "Tixati" which should use NIC 2.
The problem: The issue is that for some reason Windows will sometimes think it's a good idea to just straight up switch over to using NIC 2 for ALL traffic, even though it has a waaaay higher metric (static permanent routes) and the firewall is blocking access for the applications on that interface, which results in the applications being straight up blocked. This is temporarily solved by disabling and enabling NIC 1... Until it happens again.
The cause: I just straight up don't know, I do however think it has something to do with Windows probably trying to use a different NIC at the slightest hint of an issue with the main NIC, it often happens during web browsing and I even found one specific website that seemingly caused this issue every time I reloaded... I have a habit of whenever looking at cluttered folders (Program files) to press the key of the first letter of the file i want (say Mozilla firefox, i press letter M).

This works fine in XP, ubuntu, pretty much everything. But windows 7 rather "searches" for things with the letter M, which has a several second delay on my PC which i don't like and/or need.

Hi

Can anyone suggest how to speed up my windows search results?

When I click on the start button the initial results appear as fast as I can type. But this only applies to Settings and Programs. It is currently taking over 10 seconds for the first file name to appear!

Worse, nothing is cached - so if I want to do another, similar search a few seconds later, it STILL takes 10 seconds before the first filename appears.

- Most of my documents live in a directory in the root directory called "docs" (e.g. 3.5GB)
- I have 98GB of free space on my hard drive (SSD)
- I have c. 11GB of Outlook emails as .PST files (Outlook 2013)
- I have c. 5GB of emails in an .OST file.

When I bootup Windows XP, other applications also startup. They are displayed as small icons in the bottom right of the Taskbar next to the clock. There are a lot of these icons in the list. Most of them I never use anymore and I think they are eroding my computers performance. I find my self disabling them manually every time I start my computer.

Case:
I have a user account that I need to "lock down/restrict"
I'm using group policy for non administrators:
Controlpanel
Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings
Start Menu and Taskbar
Prevent users from customizing their start screen
Remove all program list from start menu
Remove balloon tips on start menu items
Turn off all balloon notification
System
Prevent access to registry editing tools
Ctrl+Alt+Del option
Remove task manager

This helps me a lot.. BUT If the user are using the charm bar search.. they can access My Computer or Documents or ....
How can I disable the search on the START Charmbar
I have used the article: Search in Windows 8 but just removed the all checkmarks in the first Tip.. that helps.. but it dose not solve it.

My goal is to have a empty field when I search for anything.. or even better.. to remove the search function.

Hello,

I am running windows 7 ulitmate x64 and have a quick question. I notice when my computer updates itself and goes for a restart, after the computer has rebooted all of the programs that were left open also restart. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

Basically I'm looking for way to stop the opening of programs after a reboot, forced or not.

Hello all,

I have a Windows 7 enterprise computer in a Windows domine, the problem is that I'm trying to disable the touchpad mouse of my computer but when I go to Device manager and see the properties of the Mouse Driver the button "Disable" is disable, I think that is something with domain politics and I can enable the button modifying regedit but I am not shoure of this and I do not what key of the regedit I would have to modify.
I add a photo so you can se what is the problem becose my english is not Good.

I see the same thing on a W7 Pro laptop - the same button that you have highlighted is disabled.

Try this:
Start > Control Panel
In the upper right corner, change "View by:" to small icons or large icons
Locate and click on "Mouse"

See if you can disable the touch pad from there.

Alrighty, so this happened after i followed these steps from steamcommunity ->

Kernel Integrity checks must be enabled to play on VAC secured servers. To enable Kernel Integrity checks please follow the steps below:
Exit Steam.
Click the Start button, then 'All Programs', and 'Accessories'
Right-click on Command Prompt and click "Run as administrator..."
- Please note if you are running Windows 8 you will need to press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
In the command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
bcdedit /deletevalue nointegritychecks
bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions
Restart your computer.

Turn off Kernel Debugging

Dear Brink,

Is it possible to disable/re-enable or hide/unhide Start Menu in Windows Vista via registry, using VB6 or at least disable/re-enable all items in (shortcuts and everyrthing else in Start Menu) in order to exclude starting of ANY program via contents of Start menu in Vista while my own application is active?

Could it be possible to disable/re-enable "Windows" key or any combinations of keys such as "Windows" + "Esc" via registry, using VB6?

I'm not sure what you mean by the first question. Did you want to stop a startup program from running?

I have a laptop with a USB 1.1 sockets only running Windows XP SP2.

Whenever I plug-in my USB flash drive or wireless card (both of which are USB 2.0 devices), I get the annoying ballon/message pop up stating "This Device Can Perform Faster" (if plugged into a USB 2.0 port etc).

Both devices work fine at 1.1 speeds, and I don't want to be reminded of the fact that I only have a 1.1 socket every time I plug the bl**dy thing in!

Is there any way of making a registry entry/edit or some other way to stop this popping up? I've found plenty of info on how to turn pop-up ballons/messages off altogether, but I only really want to stop this one.

If anyone knows, it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

PS: I've searched on TechNet but that only returns the usual un-related crap.

A:Disable the "This Device Can Perform Faster" balloon/message in Windows XP SP2

In Device Manager, click on the USB host controller, click the Advanced tab and then check the box on the bottom of the window that says "Don't tell me about USB errors." I think you need to do this for each USB controller listed under USB in Device Manager so that the error message will not appear no matter which controller the device gets plugged into.

I have two USB expansion drives. They have permanently been assigned drive letters (Y: and X: ) This is so they can be removed and then plugged back in to maintain the pathways for other files and programs.It was working fine and then one day not.
At start up, Windows can only see an "unknown device" for drive X: and can't load the drivers. It's OK with Y: . I have deleted and reinstalled the motherboard and window drivers, but that did not change anything.
I can unplug the drive and plug it back in, and the drivers load and it works fine. This is annoying behavior and I don't want to do this every time. Any thoughts. thanx. nova1566

Emachines T2260 Re Installed Windows home XP. CDRW & DVD failed to burn music or data. I down loaded Chipset driver from Support web site. Rebooted checked drives and they no longer were visible on my system. They work mechanically fine.

(ERROR) Message for both drivers
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have only the 3.5 drive working. I went through all standard procedures to reinstall drivers and nothing works.

Hi I am currently looking for some

I have a Acer Aspire V5 laptop and a Toshiba 1 tb hard drive I have been trying to get my laptop to read my hard drive but it wont it no longer comes up as Toshiba in my computer it says Local disk (E and I went into the property's and it has a warning message as follows

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I do not know what has happened as I can still plug my hard drive into my WD media player & it works I can no longer put movies on my hard drive from my laptop.

Please help I am not computer savy at all.

Hello, I need some help. I bought an old Sony PCG-FR130 laptop a bit ago and was going to format it and that's when I discovered the CD-RW DVD CRX-810E drive wasn't working. Here's the error: "
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have re-flashed the BIOS from Sony's site and run a freeware registry repair (Glary), and uninstalled and re-installed the driver (HW) and driver (SW). No change.

Also; I have an error on the "PCI Simple Communications Controller". That error says that there is not a driver installed but when I un-install and reintall the device windows can't find a driver.

ANY help??

 Hi there, trying to connect using bluetooth on my dell e6400 but it isn't working. Bluetooth indicator led is on and when i scan for devices with Bluetooth, search results on windows 7 don't show any device. Although in my mobile phone Bluetooth search shows "dell 370 Bluetooth minicard" and when i tap to connect it says "unable to pair. incorrect pin or password". I have tried connecting to other Bluetooth devices but same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under Settings->Connected Devices have you tried the "Add a device"? option to see if it shows there?  I had a similar issue with a Bluetooth mouse that wouldn't pair.  I had to delete it from the Bluetooth device list and then add it with the Add a Device option.
