I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Realtek HD Audio Manager missing from Device Manager & Advanced Tab missing from BIOS

I have the same OS and use Realtek. The only Realtek shown in Device Manager, Sound.... is the Realtek High Definition Audio. Are you sure you installed the 64 bit driver? The driver I have is 6.0.1.6873.

In Control Panel, DVD/CD-Rom drives, is your drive shown? Are there any problems noted?

After I restarted the laptop, the device manager gave a code 45 on the network adapter ( devices is no longer connected to the computer) I restarted the computer again, and now the network adapter is no longer in the device manager, or hidden devices at all. I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
 I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

Thanks,
Phil

A:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

I was looking in my Device Manager the other day, when I noticed something odd: there were two devices related to Lenovo Power Management.   I looked at the properties of both of them and this is what I found:  The first one, "Lenovo PM Driver", is the one that shows up for download on the support page for the Lenovo T430 as it matches the version number. I have no idea what the second one "Lenovo Power Manager" is, at nothing with its version number appears on the website at all. Does anyone know what the second one is and if should it be there?

A:Lenovo PM Device vs. Lenovo Power Manager

I do not know if it SHOULD be there or not BUT I show the same 2 drivers with the same 2 version numbers on my X1Y3.  By the way Lenovo Power Manager was installed by windows 10 Update not through Lenovo Vantage for me.  Looking at windows drivers update on my laptop I traced it to the below link.

Hi all,

The "Display adapter" option is missing from my Device Manager. I did
re-install the OEM driver but it didn't help. I am mystified as to how to get it
to show up. I would like to install a new video card and I suspect I must
first resolve this software problem (already tried the card with no luck).

I had made some tweaks to WinXP some months ago in an effort to optimize it.
I don't remember what I did but I suspect that might have something to do
with it. I have looked through Microsoft and HP/Compaq support sites with
no luck. Any info I found seems to talk about using the Display Adapter to
make changes, not how to revive it.

My stock video drivers are loaded and working. Again, I just don't know how
to get Display Adapter to re-appear (and working) in Device Manager.

I ran a diagnostic app called AIDA32. Here are screen grabs of my:

* Windows Devices
* Physical Devices
* Device Resources
* Windows Video

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this issue? Any and all
suggestions are appreciated.

My System Specs:
* WinXP Home Ed, SP2 installed
* System: Compaq Presario SR1030NX
* Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
* Processor Speed: 2166 MHz
* BIOS: KM400 / 3.03
* RAM: 512 MB
* Video Controller: VIA/S3G UniChrome Graphics
* Video Memory (on board): 64 MB

Cheers,

I downloaded the Norton removal tool from the Symantec website.
Followed the directions and restarted my computer.
It wouldn't start and I had to reboot it couple of times before it worked.
Something strange had happened, none of my devices were showing up. I checked "Device Manager" and was shocked to find nothing in the box! Every single device had disappeared!
This is why I couldn't connect or play any sounds, or do anything.
I then tried transferring my data (all my storys, poems etc) to my CD writer. But the computer didn't recognise that either.
So I rebuilt my "old" computer and connected to the internet.
And here I am!
Very angry!
I tried ringing Symantec, but got stupid answering machine that wasn't much help. I emailed them instead and they replied that "I" must have downloaded a piece of software that wasn't compatible to Norton.
I have just sent off another email, but as it contains strong langauge that I'd rather not repeat it on here.
So now I'm stuck. I can't remove my data from my computer, Wish I had "backed up" more often, but then I didn't think "Norton" would crash my pc. Used "Norton" on Windows 98 few years ago and had no problems.
Now I have completely lost faith in Norton and will never use them again.

Please, I need help recovering my data, took a long time writing my books. If I lose "all" my writing I will most probably end up h... Read more

A:Missing Device Manager

The easiest way to recover the data is to physically remove the hard drive that's in the affected computer and connect it to another computer as a slave drive (make sure you reset the jumper as per the diagram on the hard drive).

You should then be able to move the data to either that computer's hard drive, an external drive, cds or dvds, etc.

Once saving your data completed, reinstall your original hard drive as master in your computer, (setting the jumper again accordingly) reformat and reinstall XP if you have the Windows XP installation cd or use a Restore cd that may have come with the computer.

If you did not get any disks with your computer when it was new, there may be a restore partition which is accessed before Windows starts.
Boot the computer and look for instructions on the bottom of the screen - again - BEFORE Windows starts.

Sounds like you may have some services disabled or set to manual that should be starting with the machine. See if "Network Connections", "Shell Hardware Detection", and "Plug and Play" services are running and configured correctly.

A:Missing Device Manager

There can be various causes/solutions for this, so start by checking the most common.No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open ItDevice Manager empty or blank in Windows?Device Manager malfunctions after you install Windows XP SP 2Some solutions may involve making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable. ERUNT is an excellent free tool that allows you to to take a snapshot (backup) of your registry before making changes and restore it when needed.

A:[resolved] Device Manager Missing??

I think this is starting to be a bigger problem. I (and others by searching the web) have just been recently hit with this also and no one can seem to find a fix, not even Microsoft yet.

Do you have any other problems like missing connection icons in your Network Conenctions folder (even though the network/internet still works), very slow display of My Compter or any problems with USB devices?

Those are my problems, and for some reason I was also prompted to reactivate Windows because of significant hardware changes, and there weren't any. I am in contact with Microsoft through email support as are others, but right now no one can seem to find a general fix that works. I would first reccomend to you to get updated to Service Pack 2.

A:Missing CD drive, not in Device Manager

Again, if the drive doesn't appear in Device Manager, it's not an issue that can be fixed by tinkering with the registry. You need to diagnose why the system doesn't see the drive.

I have removed the drive and re-inserted it but Windows does not find the "new" hardware. If I put a disc in the drive, it powers up, spins, and I can hear the head moving. Any way to get the drive recognized by the OS?

I recent upgraded an IBM thinkpad to windows XP service pack 2. Soon after upgrading I noticed some things had stopped working (wireless card, for instance). When I checked on the device manager, I found that nothing was listed. The device manager was completely blank. This sounded exactly like this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893249

So, I contact microsoft, and I get the hotfix listed. Running the hotfix autoextracts a file called fixccs.exe and another fixccs.pdb. I ran fixccs.exe but it doesn't appear to do anything, and I still have no device manager. Anyone encountered this problem/know what to do with the files provided?

No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
Double-click Plug and Play.

If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.
In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK.
Close Services and Restart your computer.

I need help please,

I'm not sure when this originally occurred, but I'm missing the IDE/ATA Controllers section in Device Manager. They are currently listed in the Unknown section.

A few months ago I replaced the power supply on my 3 year old HP m7183c PC and about a month ago had to reinstall Windows (XP MCE SP2) due to problems caused by a Windows update.

I only just noticed that the IDE/ATA Controllers were listed under Unknown. It isn't causing any problems that I'm aware of... unless some issues I'm having with multiple external drives is related to this.

I've not been able to find anything relating to this and wonder if it's possible that I connected the cables incorrectly when I replaced the power supply. I imagine doing so would result in more serious problems than just relocating the devices to Unknown, but this is out of my range of experience. Possibly missing drivers is causing this???

I would appreciate any thoughts and advice anyone could offer.

TIA,
SBergstc

A:DVD/CD Missing from Win 10 No IDT/ATA Controllers in Device Manager

Hello, I put a CD in the drive and it did spin up. I also rebooted then pressed F2 the SATA drive in hardware was set to AHCI and on the boot up screen the DVD/CD was listed after hard drive for boot up. I also tried to run the diagnosis for the optical drive and the message was that it could not find the optical drive. I did check the cables and they were all tight, and I removed them and plugged them back in without any problems. Any other suggestions?

I am trying to assist an office colleague who had a problem with his home PC.
When he is opening his Device Manager (My Computer --> Properties --> Hardware --> Device Manager)
to ensure all the drivers are properly installed, he got a black windows (similar to DOS windows) which blinks
for two seconds and disappeared. It is not possible to open the Device Manager.

The same occurs when trying to open "Services" (Start --> Run --> Services.MSN) i.e. trying to open the Device
Manager through "Services", but in vain.

He is operating a Windows XP Pro

Thanks

What happens when typing...Start/Run...devmgmt.msc ?

Has he tried running chkdsk /r?

Has he tried defragging the boot drive?

Ok my friend started her computer up the other day & she got a windows error for her xp & a screen came up giving her the number to call microsoft to reactivate her xp. She did all of that & the computer then came up fine but she could not hook to the internet. She was getting a modem error. I told her by the sound of it she needed to reinstall her drivers & stuff for the modem or else her modem had died & she needed a new one. She went & got a new one yesterday & so far has been able to load the software for the new modem but the computer can't find the new modem when it searches for it. I went down to try and help her and have discovered that NONE of her devices are even being listed under device manager. Not quite sure what is going on or how to help her. Any one got a clue out there as to what I need to do to help her????

Thanks

Hi All, please help to show/return the ports (com & lpt) menu on the device manager... previously is working and i did not make any changes on the BIOS... thanks...

A:the ports (com & lpt) on device manager are missing

1) Check to see if the device is hidden. For this, click show hidden devices under View, then expand all the nodes under device manager. Uninstall any entries which appear grayed out, then restart. Then try plugging your external device to the computer and see if it works.

2) Make sure that in the BIOS the ports are enabled and set to 'auto'.

3) If that does not work, try installing the drivers for your device manually.

In the device manager I have only the Nvidia 9800M drivers and no Intel VGA drivers. I vaguely remember there being Intel VGA drives as well when I revived the computer. I have done a Gateway system restore and the the Device manager has the display adapter listed as Nvidia 9800M with no Intel VGA.

When I try to install Intel VGA UMA from the driver disk it says my computer does not meet the requirements and shuts down the installation program.

Any help would be wonderful.

A:VGA adapter missing in Device Manager

Hi thenerrus,

If you have a display on your laptop, the VGA is working. I seriously doubt you have two different video cards in that lap because they're not usually built that way, unless you had another on installed. The information you provided says you have an Nvidia card as your video adapter, trying to install the Intel drivers and having them fail also says you only have an Nvidia adapter installed.

So, unless you installed another video card or unsure what card you have installed in the laptop, I would suggest you look up your systems specs from the notebook manufacture and see what card is installed on the machine.

Good luck.
