I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I try to add an account to the Mail, Calendar or People apps I get a "Something went wrong" error, code 0x80070422.

I have run sfc /scannow, DISM /cleanup-image etc, tried stopping and starting the credential manager and setting it to start automatically, but no luck.

I came across a fix for the TP that involved using powershell to remove the package and then reinstall it from the store, but when I run this it appears to complete correctly but the apps remain installed. I also tried removing them as per this and then reinstalling them, but the problem remains.

Has anyone got any idea what's going on here? I really, really don't want to refresh as I've spent several days getting this set up!

I have a HP Pavilion desktop of course running Windows 8 Home

When I first logged on I decided to use my Hotmail account and the primary account as Outlook.com When I first called an agent for some help he said that it was now settled and I could not have a local account. That I did not want!! He said I had to call MS to have it switched off. I just did a complete recovery since it was new and this time signed in with a local account. I have not liked Outlook.com ever since I tried it on my XP machine. So I deleted the MAIL app. Now, after a few weeks I'm changing my mind about using Outlook.com as an added account but not the primary account. But I can't find the app. When I go to the app store and click to get them nothing happens. When I do click on the People and Calendar metro tiles, which are still there, it simple goes back to the Metro Start page???

I DO NOT WANT OUTLOOK.COM to be the primary logon account. I want me as a user admin as a local account but I understand once this is done you can add Outlook.com but the pc is still a local account. However I can not seem to get them re installed When I go to the charms and select SETTINGS I do not see ACCOUNTS like a lot of Google links have suggested. Is there any help here? I'd appreciate it. jack

Hello Jack,

Double check in your all Apps screen to see if "Mail" may still be there to "Pin to Start" again.

If it's not there, then you may have uninstalled it.

You could search in the Store for "Mail" or look in "Your Apps" to install the "Mail, Calendar, Peoplem and Me...." app and restore it.

Hi All

We got a new Sony Vaio Laptop yesterday, with Windows 8; am getting to grips with the new OS at the moment and finding it a bit tricky.

I booted up this morning to find the Mail, Calendar, People & Messaging Apps were no longer on my Start Screen. I tried searching All Apps, but it wouldn't find any of them. When I went to the Store to download again, it said I already had them installed...

The above header refers.

For more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.

I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.

Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.

What do I do now?

ps. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.

A recurring issue with me, The calendar, Mail and People apps on my desktop have ceased working. I have tried all my previous fixes to no avail (they have all worked at various times in the past) I will list them below so we don't waste time going over things already tried.

1. Converted to a Local Account, rebooted, converted back to MS Account and rebooted - no effect.

2. Uninstalled Mail/Calendar using Powershell (People no longer seems part of that package and didn't uninstall). Re-installed from Store - no effect.

3. Ran SFC/Scannow from command prompt - no issues found

4. Tried the only System Restore point I had (yesterday's!) - no effect.

Anybody got any suggestions? Everything else, including the Store, is working just fine. Tearing my hair out here!

I work in the IT department for a large Regional Medical center (25 yrs). I have a PC I've been testing Windows 8 starting with the developers preview and currently using the Release Preview. I am logged into Windows 8 with my Hotmail account.

Problem - From my work PC running Windows 7 I scheduled an appointment from Outlook and invited myself - Hotmail account. The invite showed up on my Windows 8 PC in the metro Mail application but there were no options to accept/decline etc. and hence will not add to my Calendar. If I use IE and login to my Hotmail account, open the emailed invite I do have those options. From the browser - if I accept the invite it adds it to the calendar which then shows up in my calendar in the browser as well as the metro calendar application. Is this a problem with my installation, my lack of understanding of how to accept and invitation using the Metro interface or is this what everyone else is experiencing.

Both the people app and the mail app have screwed up all the images from my LinkedIn contacts. In the People App, The persons name and their details are correct but the wrong photos from the wrong Linked In contacts have been mis referenced making them all wrong. Likewise in the Mail app when I get an email the app shows the correct email address of the sender but displays the wrong sender name and photo icon. This sucks. I have no idea whom I'm actually receiving mail from and using icons to identify contacts is impossible.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Windows 8.1 Mail app push email notification for Outlook account, Calendar and People automatic synchronization stopped working yesterday (it was working for one year). I haven't changed anything. Note it stopped working
on two different devices at the same time. The only way to get new email messages or sync Calendar/People is manual synchronization by the Sync button now. No error messages in Event log, I also tried to reinstall all three apps, no change.

I believe it is a server issue because TcpView now reports connection to
dub407-m.hotmail.com server on both devices affected while it was something like
snt000-m.hotmail.com (I don't remember the number exactly) before when it had worked. It seems to be my Microsoft account specific issue because notifications/synchronization on other Microsoft account where Mail, Calendar and People apps are
connected to col403-m.hotmail.com server still works.
Short summary:

My MS account until 20 Jan 2016 - connection to snt000-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization workedMy MS account from 21 Jan 2016 - connection to dub407-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization does not workOther MS account - connection to col403-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization still work

I don't know where to report it and I also don't want to create a new Microsoft account to "fix" that hoping it won't be redirected to the dub407-m server node again.

Thanks for any help.

My Windows Live account refuses to synch with my Mail, Calender & People apps in Metro using Release Preview. I keep getting an error message stating that my [email protected] account is not available. My Facebook, Twitter, Linked In & Google Mail accounts synch without a hitch. My Windows Live account synchs no problem on my Windows Phone, which has Mango installed. I can also access my Windows Live account on my browsers [IE, Opera, Firefox]. Why will it not synch in Windows 8 when it previously did?

Removing the account completely and signing in to the app again does not solve the problem. It makes no difference if I log in using either my Windows Live account or my local account to sign in to Windows 8.

If you have one you can try a system restore to a time before this happened. You could also try down loading the ISO from MS and doing a in-place repair install. Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums
To do the in-place repair mount the ISO by double clicking on it. Then look for the install.exe and clicking on it. This will repair Windows 10 without you loosing anything and hopefully fixing your problem.

I have upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1 and been using it for the last week now with no problems.
Today, during a mandatory update my pc went blue screen and said it had to restart.
Once it restarted it updated and booted fine.
However after the update I realized that my start menu stopped working.
If I press it nothing shows up. It is the same with my search menu.
Also none of my taskbar icons will work like the volume and notifications.
I have searched the internet and tried all the solutions provided like windows powershell and uninstalling antivirus and restarting explorer but nothing seems to work for me.
I can't reformat and clean install at the moment because it's really inconvenient for me and have some important files and big programs that I can't back up.

Can anyone please provide me a solution for this bug?
Is there anyway I can reinstall the last update again manually?
Or if I revert back to win 8.1 would this problem still persist?
I can't afford to lose anything since I am away and need my computer for work.

I'm trying to help a friend who has just installed Office 2016 on her computer, which was recently upgraded from Win7 to Win10.

She's been using Outlook.com and has accumulated a fair amount of email, contacts and calendar appointments. I've managed to get her email to show up by adding it to Outlook 2016 as a POP3 account. I was able to import her contacts into Outlook 2016 from a file called OutlookContacts.csv. Now I'm trying to get her calendar with all its many calendars and appointments into Outlook 2016.

I'm not sure why but the appointments all show up just fine in Mail and Calendar for Windows 10, even though we did nothing to put them there (as far as we know). But she'd like them to appear when she clicks on the Calendar in Outlook 2016 and I can't find any information on how to do that. I've also looked for some kind of Export function in the Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 app but I came up empty.

How do I get her calendar into Outlook 2016?

I can't be the only one who finds Microsoft *awful* at documenting this kind of basic functionality. Millions of people must have tried to do the same thing before me but if there's any information out there on how to do this, it has eluded me so far....

A:Export calendar from Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 to Outlook 2016?

You can manually export calendars from Outlook.com using a round-a-bout method I posted at this link. However, I don't think that's going to help you because what you really want to do is set up Outlook 2016 so that her email, calendar and contacts sync with (and stay in sync with) her Outlook.com account.

Therefore, instead of setting email up as a POP account and then importing calendar, contacts, etc. separately, why not just setup Outlook 2016 to work with her Outlook.com account? I haven't done it with Outlook 2016, only older Outlook versions that used Hotmail Connector, however the following instructions for Outlook 2016 seem fairly straight forward.

If she has two-factor authentication switched on for her Outlook.com account, then you may need to generate an app password from her Outlook.com account, and use that as the password instead of the actual Microsoft Account password.

Some questions about Windows 8 People (contacts) and Calendar:

1) For Start/People, the contacts appear to be seamlessly synced with Outlook.com, which is fine, but is there a direct way to link it to my Outlook 2010 desktop contacts? Currently I configred Win 8 People to access my Gmail account (as my Gmail contacts are already a synced copy of my Outlook 2010 contacts). So right now, everything is in sync using this path:Outlook 2010 (Source) >> Gmail contacts >> Outlook.com/Win 8 PeopleIs there a better way?

2) For Start/Calendar, the calendar entries appear to be seamlessly synced with Outlook.com, which is fine, but is there a direct way to access my Outlook 2010 desktop calendar? I did not see any configuration option on where to point Win 8 calendar to (like I saw in People) . What I did for now is add the Outlook.com account to my Outlook 2010 profile and from there auto-populate it (synced) from Gmail calendar. So right now, everything is in sync using this path:Outlook 2010 (Source) <> Gmail calendar >> Outlook 2010 (Outlook.com account) > Win 8 CalendarIs there a better way?

Or if anyone knows of another site (like a programmer's forum) where I could post this query as well, that would also be appreciated. As I said, I am not a programmer, so I don't know where the programmers hang out.

But there have got to be some divorced programmers out there, and this seems like a really useful program to have written (if it doesn't already exist out there somewhere):

OK, you plan out your parenting (new terminology for 'custody') schedule for the upcoming month. But then a travel opportunity comes up, and you need to overlay a 4-day vacation on top of the pre-existing schedule, and then rearrange the rest of the month so the parenting time balance is kept the same (more or less). So for example, if a month of Sun-Sat looked like this:

and there was a 4-day Y trip that needed to go in the 3rd week on Sun-Thurs. The first step would be to overlay the vacation:

Hello all,

I am new here, although I did come here quite a few times and many times found the solution :-)

My problem is (I am on 1511) that some icons of removed (by powershell) apps reapeared, and there seem to be no way to get rid of them. Nothing I have found had worked (like going to start menu folder and deleting the shorcuts).

Namely it's MicrosoftWindowsAlarms, MicrosoftZuneMusic, MicrosoftWindowsPhotos, and in Apps the name looks like this: @{Microsoft.WindowsAlarms_10.1607.1991.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwems-resource--Microsoft.WindowsAlarms-Resources-AppName-Text}

Moreover, few days ago some "new" apps have materialized - that was a shock........no update, nothing, out of blue I had about 10 unwanted apps in my all apps...............crazy.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Normally I deffer updates by turning the service off and/or metered connection. Now I have left it on by mistake...........still should not install against my will some unwanted apps..........and as I said, no update.....

A:Icons of uninstalled apps showing in All apps

Those left-over icons may be a result of deleting programs instead of using Control Panel, Programs and Features to uninstall the programs. When a program is installed the install routine puts the program files in either C:\Program Files [32-bit] or C:\Program Files for 64-bit or C:\Program Files (x86) for 32-bit depending upon which version of the OS is in use. It will also create the icons, write support files to C:\Windows or other Folders and create Registry entries so Windows knows how to run the program. The uninstall routine is supposed to get rid of everything associated, don't know if PowerShell can do it as cleanly.

Hi there

If you wish to create easily custom desktop Icons from images captured then you can use the LAST FREE VERSION of ICOFX (It Used to be freeware - everybody seems to be trying to Monetise every possible item now -but the last FREE version is still available and the paid version doesn't really have much to offer if you just want to create ICONS).

Last Freeware version: DiskDigger, Amic Email Backup, Mystic Thumbs, IcoFX, phpDesigner, Xinorbis

@Brink - I added a question in your tutorial about How to create the ICONS for Metro apps as you used Custom ZIP one in your example -- perhaps you could delete the remark or refer to the above program which does it easily

1) For Metro simply open the tile and press PRT SCREEN before the application starts
2) Paste to ms WORD / WORDPAD (Standard comes with Windows enter WORDPAD in the Start box)
3) Use Snipping tool to select a reasonable rectangle of the ICON and save as PNG file
4) Import into the ICOFX program - Will create Icon for you
5) Save as .ICO file
6) Now ready to use in Windows.

I use Outlook as my primary calendar app at home, and either GMail or my iPhone calendar when I am away. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get these three services to talk to each other.
Does anyone know of any programs or services I can use to keep my calendar synchronized? I wouldn't mind dropping GMail from the loop entirely and just having Outlook <-> iPhone synching to each other. Or if anyone has any suggestions for other super awesome calendar apps I'd consider that - but I admit I am pretty fond of Outlook at the moment.

A:Calendar Apps: Syncing Outlook -> GMail & iPhone (or alternatives)

Are you using a personal email account with Outlook, or a company account? If you're using a company account, you can set up your email on your iPhone using the Exchange account setup wizard, and that will sync over your calendar to your phone.
If you're using a personal email account, it's probably either POP or IMAP. Outlook calendar and contacts can be synced to your iPhone, but you'll have to use a manual sync with the phone connected to the computer: http://www.sync-iphone.com/contacts-calendars-email/sync-iphone-with-outlook.html#sync-iphone-with-outlook-two-way
You can also sync Outlook to Gmail, but you'll again need to hool up the phone to the computer and download Google's calendar sync program to your desktop: http://www.ehow.com/how_7172202_sync-outlook-calendar-gmail-calendar.html
Hope this helps.

We're migrating to Netscape Calendar from Lotus Notes at work, and I was asked to find the easiest way to convert the Notes data. I think I've discovered there ain't one, since Notes doesn't seem to export to any format that Netscape can read well, and if the users have taken advantage of all Notes' features or have even put line breaks and quotes in their event descriptions, any delimited files you export to get all confused....

I've found a way, but if the Notes user isn't the most simplistic end-user imaginable, it ends up a 10-step process that includes using an intermediary software to scrub out the special characters, line-breaks, and fields that Netscape can't read. Has anyone tried this and found an easier way? I have to convert the Big Boss's calendar tomorrow, and I'm not looking forward to the prospect...

Yuk. I don't have any suggestions, but I'm curious: Why in the world is Notes being scrapped in favor of Netscape Calendar?? Talk about reduced functionality!

Oh, yeah. This isn't a Tip or a Trick. Moving this post over to the Win9x Applications forum.

Over the last few days I've started receiving strange bounce-back e-mails from AOL's Mail Delivery System. Upon further inspection, it seems that someone is using my e-mail address to send out spam (apparently Paris Hilton videos). How is this possible? Could they be using a forged FROM header, as is possible through PHP, or might I have some sort of infection on my computer? I've run all the adaware / spybot programs and nothing turns up... what gives?

When this user goes into his calendar in Outlook 2003 on a XP pro PC, instead of seeing the checkboxes (to select a shared calendar) he sees the calendar icons. *See Attachment* After he clicks on a shared calendar, all of the icons change back into the regular checkboxes. I have tried and uninstall/re install but it persists. Any thoughts would be appreciated! thanks.

Ok, running RTM/9200...

Working fine, however as everyone has heard, MSFT was running some final updates to their core native metro apps.

Today "People| updated and Mail was yesterday for me.

After both those updates, the apps no longer sync the same. So if I am typing an email and try to add a recipient by typing their name or clicking the "+" it tells me there is no one in my People app with email address, but if I go to People I can find the person, click their email and redirect back to the Mail app to compose the message.

Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have any ideas?
