Lenovo Thinkpad t450 screen dead pixel spot

Q: Lenovo Thinkpad t450 screen dead pixel spot

Hi people,I have some issue with my screen on lenovo thinkpad t450. I bought it in Sweden recently (few months ago) and everything was fine, and then this morning this black spot of pixels showed up. It was not punched or something like that, it was on my desk the whole time.I tried to run JScreenFix.com on this place and also to massage it with a soft cloth but it seems that it just gets worse. The problem I have is that I am now in Serbia, and I have this international warranty, but only in one city in Serbia which is on the other part of the country. Also, I saw that there are service providers in my city, but I am not sure if they can fix me this as regular service with warranty.Do you maybe know how this functiones? Or have some tips how to solve this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone,I just received a super beautiful Lenovo Yoga 920 laptop, but quickly discovered a very ugly and disturbing thing. At first, I thought it is a dead (black) pixel. After playing around with different lighting / light exposure, I found out that this spot is  there even when the laptop is turned off.Laptop on, white background: super ugly black spotLaptop off, shade: not visibleLaptop on, sunlight: visible in a colour that can be best described as some shiny glass colour.I attached some pictures. They are all showing this same spot, with different light exposure.Gentle wiping/rubbing didn't help at all.It is right in the center of the screen, and super disturbing. It destroys the whole experience of this basically beautiful Yoga. Thanks for sharing ideas!

Hi,I bought hp pavilion 15-ab516 TX yesterday night and on using that night only at home I found a blue-green sparkling spot on my laptop screen. I restarted the machine twice to check if it persists or not. But it hasn't disappeared. On checking with the hp dealer initially he said it's common and he couldn't do anything. But later on he said I should call hp and they will direct him about the next step. What should I do to get it replaced? As I haven't used it at all and don't want a part to be replaced only.

The artifacts appeared only today after the notebook was left on sleep mode for the night. Actually, I always leave my laptop on sleep mode when i am not using it instead of shutting it down. The notebook was almost never overloaded or overheated.  Two videos showing them on the desktop and during the loading of a game(sorry for the low quality):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g71kW6WC8Jshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1cxdIG9WiI  The orgins of the artifacts are separated into three sections on the screen. The artifacts seem to occur around dark spots. The artifacts occur during booting..There are no artifacts on an external monitor connected through VGA. What are these artifacts?

Hi all, On my T460 touch screen, I have some white lines, visible on darker images. Presume dead pixels. The machine is still in warranty and I logged a ticket with support for screen replacement. For over 1 month I'm trying to get a clear answer from Lenovo engineers why the warranty has been refused based on "Customer Induced Damage" of a (explanation received in writing from Lenovo) " Screen damaged by touching". If I'm correct, a touch screen is designed to be operated by touching, otherwise what is the purpose. Can anybody can help me on this issue? Why Lenovo is refusing to honour the warranty on touch screens? All the assessment has been made on photos and ignore the fact has been mentioned that white lines are only when screen is power on and no scratches, dents or other damages. Any help would be much appreciated.

All of a sudden, I have a vertical dead spot in the touch screen on my Envy 360.  No new programs downloaded or changes that I know of.  It runs vertically from the top to the bottom of the screen.  I tried the component tests and it passed the touch pointer test but times out on the drag ad drop test because it won't allow me to drag two of the test boxes.  in the lodg it says the test is canceled. HP online suport is useless.  I have chatted with two of them and they don't seem to even understand the issue let alone know how to fix it.  The computer is only two months old! I'm not sure what else to do...  anyone have these issues?  Do I just need to send it back for service under the warranty?

One thing is common for any laptop, whenever you use without power adaptor, it uses the battery and work for few hours. If you don't shutdown before shutdown, it drains battery out and power off automatically. But once you connect power adaptor back, it recharges the battery and power on in normal mode. We have Lenovo T450 laptops which has dual batteries (Internal and external). When we use without charger, it uses batteries and if we forgot to shutdown, it powers off automatically and till here everything is normal. The weird thing start here, you can see the orange lights on few function keys, even you try to hard reboot or press and hold the power button for few minutes or keep the laptop as it is for few days, no changes. When you connect the power adaptor back, it doesn't recharge the batteries and you cannot power on the laptop. By struggling so much, we found a solution, need to open back cover, remove the internal battery and put everything back. The orange lights will go off, connect power adaptor and press power button, it powers on normally. Now the issue is, we cannot do it for 50, 100 or 200 users. Lenovo should provide the hotfix or any permanent solution. RegardsVijay

Hello, So I started using my new Yoga 920, and so far I'm very happy with it, it's a blast quality-wise. But starting to do graphic work on it, I noticed a weird black spot which does look like a dead pixel, but moving my head around makes it move "above" the screen. For example if I put the cursor tip on it, if I move my head to the right the black spot appears more on the left of the cursor. It looks like something is inside the screen, or the glass has a small defect on that particular spot. Do you know how to adress thsis issue, or if I can send it for repairs ? Doing mostly graphic work on my laptop it could become bothersome quite fast. Also, I am located in France, if that changes anything. Thank you ! EDIT : I also have a pretty loud coil whine on heavy load, so it could be another reason to send it back...

Hi,

I have a Satellite R830, I've not used the laptop much since purchase 2 years ago but i've got several white spots on the monitor (8+ areas). I suspect these may be pixel hot spots but i've tried all sorts of software and even light pressure to fix it but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any advise on methods to try and fix this issue or am i resolved to try to get this repaired?

Thanks

Hi

You cannot fix it?
In such case the display need to be replaced.
But I assume the warranty is not valid anymore, therefore you would need to pay for the replacement.
I think this is not worth.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked around as best as I could with the search features, googling, etc. The thinkpad powers on just fine, boots into windows, there is no backlighting at all. Had to use a flashlight to navigate. The red dot on the back of the screen for the i on thinkpad does light up though. Is the screen bad, or is the cable loose? Should I try the motherboard side first or the display? Thanks!

A:Thinkpad t450 screen not lighting up

It is impossible to say.  The screen could be bad.  The motherboard could have a problem - most likely a fuse.  The Hall sensor that switches when the lid hasclosed could have failed.  sorry.

Is there a way to adjust the screen brightness as soon as the ON button is pressed and the screen lights up? I'm using linux and i have to wait to get X started and a session opened to be able to reduce it with Fn+F5 and it does not memorise it. So i have to repeat this operation at every OS boot. By default the brightness is at the maximum.

A:thinkpad t450 boot screen brightness

Hi itt788.

Welcome to our community forums.

Could you try these generic steps on how to set the brightness in Linux?

If the laptop's default brightness adjustment keys are not working, then add a boot time linux kernel parameter and try again.

1. First open up the /etc/default/grub file with your favorite text editor as root.

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

2.Find the line staring with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=, most probably there will be the word quiet also. (see the image attached).

3. Add a few words there, acpi_backlight=vendor all inside the double quote.

4. Save and exit the text editor and then reboot the laptop.

The acpi_backlight kernel parameter options are not just limited to vendor, and it's guaranteed to work.

You might have to experiment with other options like native and none . After rebooting if the brightness adjustment hotkeys are working then you can set a laptop's brightness with the xbacklight command.

If it's not installed, then install it with apt, sudo apt-get install xbacklight , and then run the command like below.

xbacklight -set 20 # set brightness to 20%
Keep us posted on how it goes.

I just changed my ThinkPad T450 laptop screen to a full-HD IPS display. The new panel (display) shows up in the Device Manager with Hardware ID MONITOR\LGD03FF. While the screen works, I can no longer adjust the brightness in Windows 10 - it's always on full brightness and the brightness key combinations no longer work (nor do any of the Windows 10 software brightness controls). The brightness adjustment keys work perfectly in Linux (Ubuntu 16.04), and they work if I go in to the BIOS. The monitor is showing up in the Device Manager as "Generic PnP Monitor". Any idea how to get brightness working in Windows 10 with the LGD03FF panel?

A:Brightness not adjustable on ThinkPad T450 after changing screen (to LGD03FF)

unless you have a panel with an fru number corresponding to t450, the eeid (configuration chip on the panel) won't have the correct info to allow brightness control.

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 configured with the 4K screen that is about one year old now. It recently developed an issue with the screen where a specific portion of the screen on the right side flickers when there is a dark color being displayed there. If the screen is displaying white in that area, then it does not flicker at all. I have never experienced this before with the screen. This issue occurs regardless of which program is open. I have completed all the updates and reinstalled the graphics drivers, but the issue persists. What else should I do to resolve the issue? Does this issue sound like a possible hardware failure or is it more likely a software/driver problem? I have an update to the issue; the issue has worsened. The right side of the screen has now developed a pitch black band that is wider at the top and tapers at the bottom. The mouse cursor disappears when dragged to that edge of the screen instead of just stopping along the edge. Additionally, I can see a shadow on that side of the screen when I look at the screen with a dark grey background. I will have to conclude at this point that the LCD is bleeding and defective.

The pictures show it. Some days the area on the right on is dark, sometimes it is bright.  The second issue is that the screen won't always come on as bright as it should. This always happens when the computer has gone to sleep, and when I try to wake it the brightness looks turned all the way down, even though the computer thinks it is at 100% brightness.

Hi, I recently ordered the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2018 with i7-8550U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and HDR Display (Campus Edition). The first unit had two red glowing pixels and dust between the digitizer and the display layer. So I sent it back and ordered a new one - this one was even worse, much more dust under the screen (seen as dark black spots). See my other post for pictures.Yeah, I sent it back and so one and so one. In total had four devices. 3/4 had red glowing pixels. 3/4 had dust under the screen. That is not acceptable for such a premium device.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

It may be a bad pixel, and the dot doesnt bother me a ton but my curiosity is getting to me. I tried that flashing software that may fix stuck pixels, i did that for almost 3 hours but it is still there. I also posted on another forum but they just said if it bothers me than return it. Assuming I don't want to return it, please look at the bad pictures and let me know what you think.

Hi kareem_alaa,

Welcome to the Community Forums,

As each OEM has acceptable pixel standards, running pixel test would help.

You can review the Lenovo Pixel policy to check if it qualifies.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Lately my pc has occasionally started making semi-random green pixels.

These pixels are print-screenable, zoomable and scroll along.

They occur in any application at random. (They do sometimes form a slight pattern.)

Any ideas on what could be causing this?
Any ideas on a possible fix?

I'm worried that it might be an indication of failing / overheating ram or something.

Thanks

A:Dead-Pixel-like Artifacts

Is your monitor LCD or LED?
I think you have run-of-the-mill dead or stuck pixels. Usually is a monitor problem, I heard some Government thing called the "Dead Pixel Policy" but it only applies to brand new monitors or monitors that are still under warranty with dead pixels. There are some sites that host software/programs to diagnose dead pixels by putting different colored slides on the screen, like this program here:
InjuredPixels 2.1 Download - Freeware Files.com - Utilities Category

There are also programs to attempt the fix of stuck pixels. If it's new monitor or still under warranty with dead pixels than you will get a new replacement thanks to the Dead Pixel Policy.

No if its truly a "dead pixel" but I would say based on the color you mentioned, it's a "stuck pixel."

I just bought the new Sony Vaio Z series.

After 3 days it has a pixel issue:

On a white background, the pixel is red
On a lighter blue background, the pixel is black
On a green background, the pixel is black
On a red, dark blue or black background, the pixel seems normal (the right color and blends in with the rest as it should)

Is this a dead or stuck pixel?

A:LCD Dead or Stuck Pixel?

Stuck.

If it were dead, it would be black permanently.
