Lenovo Yoga L380 Trackpoint drifting to right side when moving laptop

Q: Lenovo Yoga L380 Trackpoint drifting to right side when moving laptop

As stated in the title my Trackpoint is causing my cursor to drift to the right side of the screen. It only does this whenever I physically pick up the laptop or bend the right corner of the palmrest. I've tried to rule out any software related issues by updating the OS to the latest Windows Build, updating BIOS to 1.13, drivers for UltraNav. Once I realized none of this worked I rolled the BIOS back to 1.12 and restored the unit but it is still happening. If I turn off the Trackpoint in Control Panel -> Mouse the issue stops. I do not remember this happening when I first opened it. Any idea as to what is causing it? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,I have a L380 Yoga 20M7-001BMH with ELAN trackpoint which exhibits the same behavior as described on another forum: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=126939 The trackpad works correctly regardless of scenario, the trackpoint scrolling works correctly regardless of scenario, however, the trackpoint cursor has its axis swapped when I'm using a secondary screen in portrait orientation with "second display only" mode. More specifically, the X and Y axis are interchanged, acting as if the screen orientation was landscape. I'm assuming this behavior is due to the assumption that the primary display of the laptop will always be in landscape mode, and when connecting only an external display, it's percieved as the primary. I have Windows 10 with all updates installed, as well as all updates installed through Lenovo Vantage. The issue is present both with a display connected through a Dell D6000 dock as well as displays connected through HDMI.

I have a new X1 Carbon 6th generation. I have noticed that intermittently, the cursor will start drifting around the screen and the trackpad becomes unresponsive. I believe that this is the trackpoint making the cursor move. It lasts between 2-10 seconds and is very frustrating as I can't continue my work. I have tried disabling the trackpoint but I like using the top mouse buttons which get disabled as well with this settting. I have tried reinstalling the input drivers, no luck.Any suggestions? Do I need to return the laptop?

Hello all I have terrible but totally random trackpoint driftinghttps://imgur.com/LCVFRNWIt can be so bad it will drift for the whole screen. during the drift, the touchpad is non-responsive.It'll continue to drift if i keep trying to use the trackpointthe only way to stop is to wait 1-2 mintues hands off trackpoint. If i try to use the trackpoint before the 1-2 minute is up, even if the cursor is still, it will stil drift!   I noticed there's a new firmware for Yoga gen 3 which MAY fix this problem for them.- Is there such a firmware for X1 Carbon Gen 6 ? - does this firmware work with X1 C Gen 6?  i am hesitent to try a firmware. Happily try a driver though!https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/downloads/DS504047

Hello, trackpoint calibration in my L480 Thinkpad is annoying. Sometimes it's calibrating 10 times in a minute and sometimes no problem for a long time. Calibration lasts for 5 seconds. Will be any firmware update of trackpoint in the future? On other topics I read that calibration lasts for 1-2 seconds (I would like that).  I try not to use the trackpoint under constant pressure

I've done some more general testing on this and 2 things I've noticed in the past few days:

1) When I leave my X1E lid CLOSED and leave World Community Grid Running (as is normal for me it drives the GPU and CPU to high workloads), in the AM the machine is very warm on and around the TPoint as well as the bottom of the machine beneath where the TP is positioned.  I have the machine sitting on a solid surface so not to impede normal air flow under the unit.  The ambient temp is about 75 degrees F.   For at least the first 30+ minutes the trackpoint is AWFUL on recalibrating itself.  It will just slide and slide across the screen.

2) I've also noticed that when I'm resting my hands "heavily" on the X1E "palm" areas near / around the Touchpad, I noticed the cursor drift a few times on its own...expecially when I'm going from no hands on keyboard to full hands on keyboard.   It seems to do this more when it's very warm, say after #1 has been running all night.

Next I'm going to try to leaving the setup running with the screen OPEN so the keyboard and trackpoint stay cooler.

My gut says we may be onto something that the thiness and thermals are inpacting the TP stress sensors which makes like a good theory in my mind.   It would be great if some others would start watching for similar behaviors.  I have a IR thermometer around here somewhere I'll try to find it.&n... Hi, Finally got back to measuring the keyboard/TP temps with my Fluke IR Thermometer after leaving the system ON and the lid closed.

Yes, I and many others continue having lots of trackpoint drift issues.  I have a 6 month old X1E (20MF Model) with all the latest FW/BIOS and Drivers installed from Lenovo's site.  It's so bad, I'm considering selling the machine and trying another one.  It's really marring what is otherwise a great machine, keyboard and Thinkpad brand.

With the lid closed at night, the thermals are quite, quite high.  I still think this MAY be related to the drift.  I've also noticed that when I use the TP to scroll the bars by depressing the right mouse button and moving the cursor, the TP SEEMS to want to recalibrate more often and much more frequently.  I also have my TP set to 2 in the Windows 10 Mouse sensitivity settings b/c when I had it at 10 (most sensitive, which is how I've used every TP for the past many years, very light touch) it seems to recalibrate even MORE often.

I don't want to send my computer to the depot back AGAIN, as it took around 1 month last time, and I spent so many hours on the customer service line, trying to find out the status, and waiting for parts.Im not very sure what this is, but I don't think this is supposed to happen, and if anyone could help out, that would be appreciated. The image of the peeling is below.

After switching to tablet mode in Windows 10, the touchpad and trackpoint are both disabled. I tried disabling and re-enabling it in the BIOS, no effect. Tried updating to the latest ELAN driver, no luck... in fact, there's no option for enabling / disabling the touchpad in the dialog box, and the ELAN dialog box is just a big blank. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Lenovo drivers; no luck. I saw some suggestions that I should disable some sort of Intel sensors in the BIOS, but I couldn't find those settings.  Suggestions?

Hi all,Recently, one of my friends bought a ThinkPad L380 laptop. I would say the internal speaker has improved. The bass goes deeper and treble is more extended compared to the older model
To tweak the sound:1. Right-click the photo below, save as Desktop. You may try both to see which EQ you prefer.

2. Go to Start > All Apps (All Programs) > Dolby > Dolby Audio.

3. Drag it onto the Dolby Atmos application.Do take note that if you were to connect your external speaker/headphone to the headphone jack, change the EQ to others, or off. As this EQ preset is only optimized for L380, L380 Yoga, S2 and S2 Yoga Speakers, not optimized for your external speaker/headphone.Hope you enjoy this tweaks!

lenovo yoga 3 pro 1370, 10 months old, upgraded to W10 Sept 2015, installed new drivers for W10, latest BIOS (a6cn58ww), all W10 updates installed. Here is the problem: since a couple of weeks, the system freezes when I move the screen (but only pulling it towards me) when the Broadcom 802.11ac is enabled. If I disable the Broadcom Network adapter in the device manager everything is fine and can move my screen without problems. Once I enable it BOOM ! I have posted this on other forum, and was able to get some relief (for 24h...) by doing the following: 1) I uninstalled the Broadcom driver and also checked the box ?delete the driver software for this device?2) I double clicked on the latest driver (4abe02af) and followed the instructions3) BUT at a certain point during the re-installation it asked me if I wanted to ?uninstall? the driver which I found strange as I had already uninstalled it from the device manager, so I clicked yes and it said ?uninstall complete? or something similar4) Out of curiosity I launched again the installation of new driver, and this time it installed without asking me whether I would uninstall it5) Rebooted the system, the problem disappeared for about 24h, then re-surface and still on.  So I am now facing again the old problem. I have tried all of the above for a couple of time but no avail. I have been adivced to restore the system to an earlier point but this means I will have to reinstall ... Read more

One suggestion..... I'm wondering after you straightened out the driver problem if Windows 10 didn't automatically reinstall the problem driver back again.  Windows 10 is good for giving driver updates whether you want them or not.  Try turning off the auto driver updates, reinstall the new driver and then see if that makes a difference.  This article will explain how to stop the auto updates of drivers......

Hello, I have been experiencing this issue for quite a long time. Initially I thought it was due to an update for Windows XP, but I couldn't find any message on the logs when the laptop hangs. I re-installed XP several times to discard any software-related incompatibility, but even with a fresh install it was happening. I recently realized after several tests that the problem occurred more frequently when moving the mouse (trackpoint or touchpad) right after system boot (either cold boot or boot from hibernation). What I found out is that it will no longer happen if I suspend the laptop after the system has started, not touching the mouse. The symptoms are that Windows freezes. No HD activity at all, system doesn't respond to any mouse/keyboard input. If I close the laptop cover the system doesn't hibernate. The only way to resume normal operation is pressing the power off button for a few seconds, so the system turns off, then turn on normally. All drivers are up to date. Has anyone experience this issue? Thanks

I just had a few questions:

What exactly is this button and this process called?

Will this restore trusted/measured boot after one of Lenovo staff has helped me turn it off while I was on the phone with them ? (I forgot how they did it. I'm sure I can find out how on Google, but I'm nonetheless curious if it could be done with this button.)

Thanks.

NOTE: had to add the word "while" and a few other words, because they were missing. Sorry.

I don't understand your question but it sounds like you should ask Lenovo staff "while" you are on the phone with them.

Is this also possible with the L380 or is a higher brightness necessary under normal indoor conditions? Durability:  One reviewer stated that the build quality of the L380 is not on par with other Thinkpads. Is that true? Have you experienced damages caused by daily use? Active Pen Most reviews only mentioned very basic information on the Active Pen. As I am going to use it very often, I would like to know if there are some issues with it like jitters? If there is anything else you dislike about the L380 it would be great to know. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi, I just revieved my first lenovo product and have started trying to learn it. My SO has a pad she uses often (from wacom) and the pan that comes with it works like an eraser if you use the back end of it (where an eraser would be on a normal pen). Is the pen that comes with this computer not supposed to work like that? I thought I paid for a "pro pen" but this just seem like a normal pen where I have to manually select erase mode for it to do it...
