Clogged Epson ink ports (not print head)

Q: Clogged Epson ink ports (not print head)

Have Epson stylus photo 820. Is there a reliable method to clean tops of INK PORTS that go into print carts?

Most holes around tops of ports are completely coated so not even visible. Don't know the print head itself is clogged. Tops of ports appear to have a series of tiny holes around the top, like a gas cook stove burner.

Any suggestions on how to get the dried ink off tops of ports?

Read about cleaning kit for PRINT HEAD, but would they work unclogging the port holes? If so, how?

Would appreciate recommendations on specific kits, or other methods others have used.

Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi:

Been furiously working on this. I was trying to print a greeting card on best photo mode when both these happened.

Symptom 1: Slow, quieter, continuous carriage motion not terminated by off or reboot. Only stopped when turned off power strip overnight.

Symptom 2: Black and Magenta don't print and have no nozzle pattern. Other nozzles fine.

Tried:

Towel soaked heads overnight with 50/50 distilled/Windex.
This gained the black nozzle about three spots on the pattern. Magenta = nothing.

Flushed black with 1 ml warm distilled/isopropyl/detergent. After 1 normal and hours later 1 heavy cleaning was able to get black back to normal (one or two skips).

Magenta nozzle would not accept flush and I did not force it. I did pull out and got a little ink in the tubing but it would have required strong or impossible force to push it through.

What now?

Hi there folks, I can really use some help here as I have exhausted all possible solutions to fix this problem.

I have had this printer for about a year now and I steadily been replacing each ink tank with "G&G" Ecosaver" brand ink tanks which all in all been fine. When printing out a map from google maps i noticed the yellow and red ink portions were faded with white streaks threw them. I tried many many deep cleaning operations to clear it up and didn't get any better. I understand that it mixes all three colors to produce black and essentially it seemed all three major colors were affected.

I then proceeded to remove the print head and soak in hot water and run hot water threw the ink tank connections clearing out the ink, after reinstalling them and printing out a multicolor picture several times the colors were temporarily balanced until it returned back to way it was.

So then I went and bought a brand new print head, quickly swapped out the ink tanks and printed out a picture only to meet the same results. I reprinted the picture three times and each one got steadily got better until the fourth, where the yellow and red seem to drastically fade with the familiar white streaks. Also i then noticed a spot of yellow ink staining the top left corner of the page right before it starts printing.

I am out of ideas and I'm not sure how to proceed with this, I"m thinking either the ink is not good for the print head or something deeper is go... Read more

out of 30 printers in my school, 4 have clogged print heads after sitting all summer. only the black won't work; color is fine. i read of the same problem from several people on the CNET reviews page, but they didn't give their solution! one person said that the staff of Staples told them how to fix it, but there is no way to contact that person to find out how. canon says buy new print heads (half the cost of a whole new printer). i've tried repeated deep cleanings, soaking in warm water, warm soapy water, alcohol, and special print head cleaning fluid, all to no avail. what i want is that special, secret way to make the black work without having to beg for the money to replace a bunch of heads!
~melias
p.s. the canon person also said to prevent summer dry-out by printing a page every week or putting the heads back on their orange covers. well, the school is locked up tight all summer and i threw those orange covers away long ago. any suggestions?

I have a Xerox DocuPrint C6. (inkjet)
I ran out of black ink and when Office Max ordered some new cartridges for me, they were the wrong ones. I took out my cartridge and brought it in for them to see. (I bought my printer from them a few years ago and now they are the only guys in town that stock the ink. ) It took about 3 days for them to get in some cartridges. When I got home and put in the ink I noticed that it would not print in black. I then realized that by leaving the old ink cartridge out for so long, things might have dried up inside. I cleaned the heads and the little screen looking thing inside where the ink cartridge goes, but still no black. Sometimes after a good cleaning (Blowing and wiping heads with a soft cloth.) it will print a few lines then the black fades away.

HELP - What should I use to "soak it"?
Or what is the proper way to give it a good cleaning.

Edit = Color still prints fine. It is just the black ink that is not working.

I have an old HP 500 (black only) printer that I'd like to use.
It was among several that I bought at auction, and stored.
The ink cartridges did work, but have dried out at the ports and
clogged.
Is there any common solvent that can dissolve the clogs by soaking the printer head in it?
Note, there is ink inside the cartridge and it is not dried out.
I have tried alcohol for several days without sucess.

Hello everyone, I let my Epson color printer run out of black ink. It was a couple of weeks before I replaced the black cartridge with a new one. At first I was getting some ink using the print head cleaning utility. Now no black but the color is fine. Any techs out there know what is involved in cleaning a badly clogged print head? I'm not planning on putting it in the shop so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have used Windex to clean inkjet heads, the ammonia in Windex is able to break up the ink. The trick, of course is getting the ammonia into the print head, and the hardened ink out again. Q-tips, paper towels and an eyedropper may help. I have had success with a few printers, and failed with some others (one of them an Epson 600) If you can manage to get the dry ink dissolved, the cleaning procedure should finish the job of removing it.

A:Epson Printer Head

Hi there -

The printheads are located directly under the ink tank on the 600. If you can, remove the printhead (remember how it went in!) and soak it in Windex for about an hour - plunge it several times first. Then rinse with hot water - a lot of ink should come out. Sounds like a messy ordeal, but it is supposed to work. Ya might want to keep some soap and water close by just in case. The print quality should improve with each print job after you finish.

Good luck!

Hi Guys,

I've got a problem with my Epson Stylus S21 Ink Jet Printer.

It prints perfectly for a few documents and then gaps appear in the Printing.

I do a Head Clean, and it's back working again, but a few documents later it starts missing bits again.

I always use genuine Epson Cartridges, and I never turn it off (someone told me ages ago that it was best to keep them powered up all the time).

Is there a deep clean facility (I can't find it on the menu options) that I can use, or is it a sign that the printer is on the way out?

Looking forward to your comments.

A:EPSON Stylus S21 needs regular Head Cleaning

I have had the same problem with epsons over a few years.
I use more ink running head cleaning cycles than anything else.
I think my next printer will either be a laser or an HP or Lexmark.
Most of the HP and some of the Lexmark inkjet printers use
ink cartrindges that have the print heads built into the cartridge.
That way you get new print heads every time you change the ink.

i just got a canon bjc-4100 and the printhead seems clogged i have a new cartridge in it and have cleaned the head through software but it doesn't help how should i try to clean it manually?

A:cleaning the print head

Soak a paper towel in warm water, then set the cartridge so that the ink nozzles sit on the towel. Let it sit for a few minutes (30 or so) then replace in printer and run the software cleaner immediately. This should loosen any dried/stuck ink. You may also wish to run a pencil eraser lightly over the electrical contacts on the cartridge.

Do not use any brushes, or attempt to wipe the bottom of the cartridge with any cloth unless the cloth is known to be lint free, as this can damage the print head.

Please can someone suggest how I can get it working again?

Likely failed. Remove and reinstall. Power off/on.

Aside from that, time for a new printer.

I just had to replace the same printer a few weeks ago. A replacement print head is $99. A new printer of equal/better quality was only $120.

But all cartridges had plenty ink left. It said to turn off hte printer and turn back on. I did this many itmes, Print head moved fine but hte sponge on the right side was soaking with ink, apparently ink waste. I blotted it until it was fairly dry. After repeated tries I finally was able to print sometihng but then hte problem repeated itself. 2 cartridges ran out very quickly after being half full, so I knew something was wrong. I repalced both. I also unistalled the printer and reinstalled. Driver device working properly in device manger. Now when I turn on the printer, it not only flashes 4 orange lights with that annoying buzz but the printhead is now not sliding back and forth as its supposed to. Also, I was able to manually slide the printhead whne I cleaned the sponge. Now it is stuck and unmovable.
I chekced the ports and theyre connected yet I think the computer is not reading the printer because evne my laser jet which I havent used in over a year is not priniting. It did print a spec page but it doesnt print from the computer.
i unplugged computer and cables from printer to computer and then replugged. Still notihng.

As you say it flashes orange light five times consecutively, that means there is a print head error. Reset the print head, then reset the printer. To reset the print head, make sure the printer is on. Open the paper output tray and top cover. Make sure the print head holder is in the center and open the inner cover. remove all the ink tanks. Raise the print head lock lever and remove the print head. Reset the print head and lock the lever. Replace the ink tanks.

My Brother MFC 5440cn has a continuous error "cannot print, blah, blah, blah," formerly known as error 41. Brother tells me to take it in for servicing but will give me no information about the error. The printer is about 18 months old. My question is HOW do I take out the print head so I can clean it? I have found information on earlier Brother models that have the print head under the ink cartridges but this set up is different. The ink cartridges have tubes going to the print head. The computer is fried and I'm not going to pay to fix it so I figure I'm gonna learn how to fix hardware. Thanking you in advance. P.S. I'm a hardware newbie so idiot proof directions please.

A:Solved: Brother MFC 5440cn print head issue

I'm afraid the only info I can give you is that without very specific factory servicing instructions, printer maintenance (and especially Brother printer maintenance) can be a major pain.

Printers are usually full of fragile parts and are almost always messy to work on. Often repair parts costs will be more than the printer is worth new. But if you really love this printer and have lots of patience and mechanical ability you might as well give it a try.

Sorry I can't offer you more hope, but look at the bright side, if you do fix it...you'll be the resident expert here!

Ok, so I've had my printer for a longggg time now. I got my cartridges refilled recently and haven't used the printer since then apart from a couple of pages the same day. Yesterday I tried to print but it only prints in yellow.
So I figure print head must be clogged. I have ran warm water through it, didn't fix the problem. I sat it in a saucer of isopropyl alcohol until the ink ran. Yay! So I put it back in the computer and did a test print. It only printed in black! Then I ran cleaning and the next test print came out black!!
When I removed the print head unit it had ink smudges of all colours on it, which means the ink must be flowing and that the problem is not the print head but something between it and the paper. I am absolutely clueless on what it could be! Also, where the print head unit comes to rest is always covered in fresh ink, when I check.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Canon Pixma ip1500 Print Head Problems, this will have you speechless!!

I was also very frustrated with my wife's printer. Since she does not use it very often, the print heads get clogged from ink in the printer head. I have successfully cleaning this one by pouring hot water into the print head container and waiting for it to cool down, then following it up with isopropyl alcohol. Using toilet tissue, wipe the bottom of the ink jets until the color and black is about run out. Hold the head level so that the alcohol does not dump out while wiping the jets.

Fill up your cartridges with ink. I buy bulk ink so I don't have to pay so much for ink replacement. I have bottles for each color (C, M, Y) and black that have needle tips. If you do not have this you could use medical dropper bottles. Ask the pharmacist for these and explain what you're doing and he will probably give them to you. They also have syringes with blunt metal tips, but he may be more reluctant to hand those out for fear of drug misuse.

The ink is entered into the top of the Canon branded cartridges by prying off the rectangular covers. Make sure you put the right color ink into the three openings for the color cartridge. To determine this, use a toothpick to poke in and get a sample on the toothpick. Once you know the correct opening, Mark it by either a sticker or sharp steel marker on the cartridge next to each opening. The best way seems to drip the ink into the openings until you have added the amount specified for each color. These cartridges hold 5 1/2 ml o... Read more

Hi..I have been emailing Epson for support on this but, so far, I have not been able to resolve my problem. And while waiting for a response, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software and status monitor but the printer starts working and prints beautifully for about 10 pages and then, kaput! Naturally, I figured if anyone can help, this message board with all the hard-working gurus can. The reason I am trying to uninstall and reinstall is that sometimes the printer prints and sometimes it doesn't even though I can get a test print. So I know that the printer and the cartridges are o.k. But, on to the reinstall problem. This question relates to the Epson Stylus C82 Ink Jet printer. I've had it for a couple of years, always worked fine. Last week, since the black ink had run out, I replaced it. It went through the whole ink charging routine, and the ink monitor says the black ink is now full.

So far so good.

But when I went to print something, the page comes out blank. I've double checked all the settings to make sure there isn't some odd option selected somewhere.

This is the first problem I've had. So, anyone got any suggestions as to how I might get it working again? I know these printers are temperamental little buggers. I may as well try poking it or any suggestions since it would probably cost me more to bring it somewhere to be fixed than to buy a new one.

THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP.

Hi,

Have you tried re-seating the cartridge? Or testing the printer on another system? Try downloading and installing the latest Win95/98 drivers.

http://support.epson.com/hardware/printer/inkjet/sc440_/index.html

EPSON claims that their Windows 95 drivers are fully compatible with Windows 98, so if upgrading the drivers doesn't work, then you might want to look more closely at the printer itself.

How to compress print on Epson C88?

It is on the parallel port (standard IEEE-1284-compliant interface)
under Windows XP Home, version 5.1, Service pack 2. eMachines T2245 2.2 ghz

The Epson Stylus C88 printer can print text files.
It will print a text file from the command prompt or from a DOS program.
However, I'm not able to successfully instruct it to compress the characters
(print 17 instead of 10 characters per inch).

The command to compress in the ESC/P printer control language is decimal 15
or decimal 27 15. But the printer apparently doesn't respond to
this because it is operating in "ESC/P raster language".

How can I send commands to the C88 to cause it to compress
the text file that it prints?

I have an Epson stylus 760. It will not print. I just installed new ink cartdridges. I was printing and now won't. It says there is a communication error. On the printer the red light is on on the color cartridge, but it has been printing with that on. I have deleted and reinstalled it twice. I have gone to the Epson website and downloaded the new drivers and status monitor.
Any other ideas?
I have a Dell 500mhz with 256 RAM running Windows XP.
Thanks,
Gary

Can anyone help me with an issue with this program not recognising downloaded material. There is obviously a block somewhere not allowing access to the EPSON Print CD software, but I am unable to unblock it.

A:EPSON Print CD program

I use this program, and an Epson Artisan 835 printer to print on CD's.

Can you clarify what you mean by "not recognising downloaded material"? I don't understand.

I have an epson B1100 for just over an year, not used it for a few months and it will not print. It goes though the movement of printing. Takes in the paper and the carriage moves up and down but no ink. Brought a new CISS to try to solve the problem, used Ink doctor to clean the heads. Did a lot of head cleaning using the system, But nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
Also got an Epson SX 515W with the same problem, but that one had never been used. Looks like the red inkhead is blocked with something. Cannot use a ink cleaning liquid as it wil not take any in to the head.

About two weeks ago my printer (Epson 740 Stylus Color) started acting up. It only works intermittently but most of the time it prints some kind of control code.
284>4
@EJL
It does this three times then spits out the page and keeps printing the same codes.
I've tried going to the Epson site and downloaded the Windows 2000 driver, they say it should work, but it doesn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions other than buying a new printer? I'm thinking that an update has somehow been harmful to my printer driver.

First: the epson 4000 is prinitng as if it were washed out ink or extremely thin ink.
It used to print a rich black. I'm using the same films and have changed the black photo ink.
- I also power cleaned the printer twice.
Is there a density setting I can't seem to locate in the printer or in my computer/Applications/Epson?
Second: gears appear to be cutting little clear dots through my ink on the film as it comes out.
It's as if the film is running against little rollers with teeth or tiny gears as it comes through the printer?

I can't seem to find an Epson tech in Las Vegas!
