I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just reformatted to XP, and I go and plug in my mic (which has no drivers to install), it works fine, but I can barely hear myself in it. So, I go to Sounds, try to turn it up, but windows says to find hardware since the microphone is corrupted. I go to the site, no drivers. Do Windows Driver search, nothing.

Any help?

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

The microphone attached to my headset works satisfactorily however I also have 2 other mics that when I use them the volume so low the person I'm speaking to can't hear me. One is part of a webcam and the other is just a separate mic. They all plug into the same socket on my Toshiba laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Some mics are just more sensitive then others. You’ll probably need to go into the options of which ever chat program you are using and increase the mic levels/settings.

I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to control my computer because of a disability. No matter what I do Windows 10 wants to set the volume level of my microphone at 81. I don't have the boxes checked to allow software to take control of the settings although I've also tried that with no positive results. If I reset the level down to 61 my software works perfectly but as soon as it was back up to 81 speech recognition is terrible. Even when I recalibrate the microphone for Dragon by basically shouting at it during the calibration Windows 10 still sets the microphone level at 81. I also tried whispering to see what that does and at that level it also sets the microphone level to 81. Based on this I know that the problem is not caused by Dragon software.

Any ideas on how I can get the blame I will for my microphone to stay set where I wanted would be greatly appreciated!

After booting my system Windows XP/SP2, I am able to run Audacity and record from my microphone at what I call full volume, i.e. amplitude between +/- 1. But after using other programs (not microphone related) I find that the microphone amplitude is VERY low. I've also detected this change when I switch input to WAVE and record some music from my hard drive. The music records fine. But upon returning to microphone, volume is low.

I've checked the "speech" settings in Control Panel, and found that the same problem exists there. If I reboot the system, full volume is returned.

At this point, I don't know if it is a problem with Audacity, or with the system. I'd be happy just to be able to reset it without having to reboot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

I have set up VoIP on all computers on our SOHO LAN. I am testing it using the same headset (microphone and earphones) on each computer.

I find I am getting wildly different microphone volume levels on each PC, with exactly the same equipment.

I found the Audio Settings in the Control Panel, and for each one the microphone volume is turned up to max.

Yet on one PC, I am barely audible when making internet calls, even when the volume setting on the softphone is turned to max.

What setting am I missing ?

Hey guys, I recently put together my custom system and the audio is fine, but im having problems with the Mic volume. No body can hear me.

The green bar in sound options only goes up 1-2 bars when I SCREAM into it. This is very frustrating, and I have noticed a frequent amount of threads pertaining to this issue, please let me know what I should do.

P.S Its Realtek Audio and I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers!

What kind of microphone are you using? You need a "computer" mic or a combo headset/mic designed for a computer.

Have you tried both the front panel and rear mic jacks? Could be a problem with the front panel jack.

I just built a new system and had memory slot problems (2 slots did not work) with an ASRock Z77 Professional (Fatal1ty) motherboard and have since replaced it with a Gigabyte. So far working without problems.

I am new to posting questions on forums so am feeling my way through.

I have just installed a new boot drive (old one was bogged down), reloaded the operating system (Windows XP, Service Pack 3) and all my software, doing updates as I go.

I have an MSI Neo-L,P4 mother board, Model MS 6585 with on-board sound, AC97 and have loaded the newest driver, Ver 5.10.0.6230, 3/8/2007.

Everything is working except the microphone (although I did have to install Power DVD 5 in order to get Windows Media Player 11 to play DVD's with sound!!).

I have gone into Sounds and Audio Divices in control panel and checked all the settings which seem to be fine. Under Voice recording, Realtek AC97 Audio is selected as the device and under Volume the microphone is checked with Volume as high as it will go and no check in the Mute box.

When I use the hardware test, I am getting a slight movement on the recording ndicator but to get any significant movement I have to be right on top of the microphone. During the playback test I have to be right on top of the mic again in order to hear myself through the speakers.

When I go into Pinnacle Studio 11 and attempt to record commentary, I have the same problem. The recording is "extremely" faint. I use the mic mainly for recording commentary on the travel videos that I do (and I'm 2 trips behind) so it is important for me to get it up and running again.

Everything was working with the microphone on my old hard drive.

Just after posting this I found another post that pointed me in the right direction. Said I had to go under Advanced settings to "boost" the mic. Hello, I have just reformatted my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop to its factory default settings and now my microphone output levels are not working properly.

I had to download audio drivers after reformatting because there was no sound output at all, but I did that and have the audio output working fine now. It's just the mic that I'm having the problem with, and I'm wondering how to get it back to the way it was before the reformat.

I have been using the built-in mic on my laptop perfectly fine for about a year so I know it isn't broken. I use Skype nearly every day and need this to work again.

The input levels of the mic when I speak into it are extremely low, with next to know sound being detected. When doing sound recrodings I can't hear anything. When doing test calls on Skype, it says it can't detect any sound. And when it does, it is extremely low. Configuring the mic settings for speech recognition on my computer also doesn't detect any sound.

I have looked at all of the sound and volume settings on my computer and the mic is NOT muted, and its volume is at maximum. Mic boosts also don't seem to help it at all.

I'm stumped as to what to try next. I've tried downloading Realtek drivers and installing them but they don't seem to do anything. The mic levels remain as they were. I have also tried using a desktop mic that goes into the mic jack, but it's exactly the same. So it's something that needs to be fix... Read more

Hi guys. This is an old, very ugly problem, still without clear solution. I'll start from the beginning, and sorry for my English.

Two weeks ago, I had spanish Windows7 64 bit computer and my Gamecom 360 headset with microphone that was working really fine with 50 volume and 0db additional boost. Then, one beautiful evening, the lights in my house went off, and my HDD partition broke, so did Windows. I had to install a new copy from the different source, so this is when I faced this famous problem ? my microphone was really, really low with 100% volume, something that cannot be. I did all this tricks people tell you to do in "sound" menu, but no results..
Also, I did everything you can do in Realtek software without any effect.

Drivers
My sound card is integrated, motherboard is ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8H61-M LX (LGA1155). Sound card details are here:

I've tried 4 different versions of Realtek drivers. 1 - From motherboard website. 2 - Realtek website according to OS. 3 - Especial drivers for soundcard model from Realtek website. 4 - Ac97 drivers. None of them worked. No effect. Headphones work just fine, but mic only shows good green sound level in "Sound" config if I hit microphone "head" pretty hard with my finger.

I've tried other win7 64 bit package (different source), no effect. I looked into BIOS, searching for some power suply settings point... Read more

First off, this is my first post ever on this forum ( yay ) and i'm not too up to date with technology and the terminology that goes with it so you will most likely have to break some things down as simply as possible for me.

So basically i just bought a new set of logitech x-530 speakers which are amazing and all except for this one tiny problem.

Whenever i connect ANY pair of headphones or earbuds or w.e into it's headphone jack i can hear the sound just fine but i cannot control the volume using the dial.Basically it's like they are connected just fine but only to the extent that i can only hear sound but not control it.

(My own mind told me to first off try and update my sound drivers but you see i don't quite know how to do that ,i let the thing search for any available updates on its own but it always says the drivers are up to date which i don't really believe.)

Help would be appreciated.

A:Speakers volume control problem.

Are you sure the volume control for the speakers is suppose to control the headphones and not just the speakers?
Does it work to control the speaker volume?
If it is suppose to control the headphone volume as well then its going to be a hardware problem with the volume control dial or something else in the speakers and not anything on the PC, so updating the drivers isn't going to help. Once you plug the headphones and use the dial on the speakers the computer gives up the control - you can still control the master volume on the PC but the dial should work independently.

You can either try contacting Logitech for support to find out if your set is broken or wait for someone with the same or similar set that knows if the dial can control the headphone volume as well.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Is there any way to make my computer stop adjusting my mic levels for me? Any program that I use to communicate via microphone has this issue. I have removed the option to allow applications to take control. I use skype and the google chat phone service most. I turned off the auto adjust option within skype. I use a cheap USB headset, and it didn't have any software that came with it. I am pretty convinced Windows 7 is a control freak and won't let me decide my mic volume at this point. Is there anything I can do?

I just discovered tokbox.com, works pretty neat.

I've got an old Logitech QuickCam Pro4000 and it takes an overly bright

the monitor washes out the color of my shirt for instance.

I couldn't remember which model I had and so downloaded software and
drivers for the Pro 5000 model at first, and saw that it was possible to
adjust camera brightness etc. But of course my 4000 wouldn't work with

Hey guys,

I posted this earlier in the Multimedia thread but was told to post it here.

I have been having trouble with my sound this past week. Is stays at 100%. I try to slide my volume, but it quickly goes back to 100%. I don't know what the problem is. I have ran dxdiag and it says there are no problems found. My speakers are Conexant High Definition SmartAudio. I have tried pretty much everything: googling it, but no answers there.

I do believe my roommate has something to do with it. He went to high school for technology, and after a dispute over my music being too loud he said he would start to control my volume. Some time during the week, I had found my computer had mysteriously restarted. So this has led me to believe that he has installed a program, which allows him to control my volume. I want to make sure he's doing this, so he can face the consequences. I just need your help. Is there something installed in my computer? What can I do to get rid of it?

There's also another strange thing that occurred. After posting this in the Multimedia thread, my volume somehow became adjustable again. Weird. I now have a feeling he can see what I do on my computer, and realized I posted this? I am so confused. I just would like answers.

Thanks so much beforehand. My operating system is Windows Vista and I have an HP Notebook PC, if that helps.

Using the Volume Control, I find that nothing is muted, and everything is at maximum. I can lower the volume to make it even quieter, but I can't make it louder (since it's at maximum).

I think it might be a driver issue? I know its not my mic because when plugged in the front, people can hear my voice fine but there's just static noise too, and it's sort of loud

A:Microphone Volume is quiet, even at maximum volume

More PC info is needed. Including what sound and sound driver you have.

The front panel jacks are just an extension of the sound jacks. Usually if there is problem, the front do not work correctly but the read does. Are you plugging the mic into the correct Pink jack? If it were plugged into the wrong jack that can happen.

Hi

Sorry if this has been posted before but some searching hasn't
revealed any results

I have just bought a headset with microphone for use with skype.
I also have a usb webcam with a microphone, but the microphone isn't
as good as the headsets.
When I have the webcam plugged in the headsets microphone doesn't
work, I guess the webcam's takes priority. Fine.
When I remove the webcam (which will be the norm) the headset
microphone doesn't then work. I have to restart the machine before it
does.

I've tried control panel->sounds and audio devices->voice->voice

I'm running Windows XP Professional with Realtek HD Audio. In my Master Volume mixer when I go to "Options" and then "Properties" Realtek HD Audio Output is selected as the Mixer device and "Playback" is ticked. "Recording" is shaded. When I bring the volume adjusters up there's all the sliders and under each slider is a box marked "Mute". If I change the Mixer device to Realtek HD Audio input "Recording" is ticked and "Playback" is shaded. When I bring up the volume adjusters for recording there's the sliders, each with a box marked "Mute" underneath, except all of the sliders, except "Recording" are shaded out. "CD Volume" "Mic Volume" "Line Volume" and "Stereo Mix" are all shaded.

In Realtek's Mixer those devices don't even HAVE sliders.

Any ideas why I can't adjust my levels?

Well the title pretty much says it all. Every time I have a program open and I use the keyboard to adjust the volume the program that I am using minimizes. I searched these forums for an answer but couldn't really find anything. Does anyone else have this problem? I am not sure what to do and want to fix it.

This is on a computer less than a week old.

Hi and welcome

do you have any application that 'maps' specific keys? Was this an upgrade? what keys are you using for the volume?

Thanks

Greetings, I just received my new inspiron 7459. I have a PS4 connected to the HDMI IN port. How do I mute or decrease the volume when using this port? The hardware buttons on the side of the monitor only seem to adjust the screen brightness.
The keyboard commands for adjusting volume work fine when using the computer itself, but do nothing when the PS4 is being used.
Thanks!

Hi Skridger,Thanks for posting.Since you just got this, does it have the Windows 10 Anniversary Update or just Windows 10?  PS4 connected to HDMI in. See the bottom of this page which shows an Xbox connected to HDMI in. It says, ""Press Button 1 to launch Dell customized volume UI". http://dell.to/2iJtGU9

I'm not following you entirely, but have you tried (R) clicking on the "mute box" selection when it appears? Does the speaker icon in the task bar have a red "X" on it? Have you gone to "system" in the control panel...than selected 'hardware' to get a look at 'device manager' and what see what it's saying? On your sound mixer click on everything that has a red "x" on it. I'm not meaning to oversimplify, but I think you will discover an easy way out of this problem once you know how to handle the Window mixer console.

The image from the builtin webcam on my 5600U AIO has always been way too bright.(For example, to use it for video chat, I have to be in a semi-dark room, otherwise the image is really washed out.) This is Windows 10. The Camera app Settings apparently has nothing for brightness. Is it possible to adjust it some other way? Thank you very much! ..Bill..

This has been annoying me for quite some time now.. Whenever I plug in headphone to my Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD, the Realtek Audio Manager does pop-up an annoying message that I connected headphones, but it does not adjust the volume accordingly. It's slowly driving me insane that I cannot find a solution to it. To my knowledge it has been default since a few years that laptops recognise and memorise different volumes for the headphone-jack or the internal speakers. I have found several topics on this, dating back to 2013 already even (like here), where this was possible with a single click in the Realtek Audio Manager. But then, years later, in this topic of 2018 it seems it is not possible anymore? I cannot find any of the suggested settings in the Realtek Audio Manager, nor in the Sound or Device settings. Under "Device advanced settings" I do have an option to separate the inputs as different devices, indicating to me that it is possible for the outputs as well! Does anyone know how to solve this once and for all?

Hi
I'm using Intel Audio Studio - Sonic Focus 7.1 - Sigma Tel
I have Soundblaster 7.1 desktop powered speakers with a wired/remote on-off switch
with volume and bass controls.
Out of the clear blue, I can't adjust the volume for my headphones with the Soundblaster controls. When I unplug the headphones, the Soundblaster volume control works fine thru the speakers. I get sound ok when the headphones when they're plugged in, but the Soundblaster volume control does nothing. The system volume control, and WMP volume controls work fine on the headphones. It's just the controls on the Soundblaster that have no effect on the headphones.
Thanks.

A:Cant adjust volume on headphones Sonic Focus

You need to re-install the sound drivers
I couldn't find the exact drivers, except for a page here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SO...gmatel-STAC-92XX-Audio-Drivers-006-5682.shtml

If it is an addon sound card just search and download from the manufacture
If it is intergrated into your computer, just search your motherboard drivers

Hi everybody,

My problem is that I cannot adjust the volume of video clips 'normally' when using Media Player Classic. Whenever I use this program, it does not allow me to increase/decrease the volume on my default volume scale, instead, it uses a built-in volume scale and therefore forces me to use that stupid scale.

How can I disable this annoying feature of Media Player Classic so that I can adjust the volume as normally as when I use other programs.

Thanks in advance!

A:Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

1. Open Media Player Classic > View > Options > Playback > Output > Change to either your sound card name or DirectSound then apply.

2. Open up my computer

3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourloginname\Application Data\

4. Delete the Media player classic folder

5. Restart.

Can not access sndvol.exe to create a shortcut to allow keyboard to control volume.

I am using a Standard PS2 wired keyboard for my HP Elite 8000 system. Details in my signature.

I discovered the following and wish to implement with my basic keyboard:

1) click your start menu. Type ?sndvol? in the search box at the bottom
2) Right-click-drag the sndvol program icon to your desktop and select the ?Create shortcuts here? option
3) Right click on the new shortcut and hit properties
4) Go to the shortcut tab, and click inside the ?shortcut key? box.
5) Make your shortcut key combo. For example I use ALT + F12. Hit apply and OK to close the dialogue box.

Although I am Administrator, I am being blocked from shortcut key which indicated "None" at the moment, to make create a shortcut to do what is suggested in the above instructions.

Can anyone advise a way to unblock (allow) me; or a workaround to adjust my volume and add a mute button shortcut from my keyboard (preferably from the up/ down arrows on the numeric pad) without going to a third party software or a purchasing new keyboard?

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to write a simple batch file that would mute or turn down the volume at startup. The idea is to stop the obnoxious MS startup tune when booting up in a place where I don't want attention; i.e. on a plane, in a meeting, classroom, etc. As a techie I'm way too lazy and forgetful to mute the sound before logging off everytime and would much rather write a complicated script to do this.

ps. why don't laptop makers install the old toggle volume switches?? click=on, off.. it would be such a simple solution to this..

thanks,
