I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the Dell XPS 13 (9360). Using the latest BIOS 1.3.2 (but the old previous BIOS version was the same).

If you go to the "Fn Lock Options" under BIOS, there are 2 options, they are listed as:
Lock Mode Disable/Standard   = The F1-12 Keys behave as function keys
Lock Mode Enable/Secondary = The F1-12 Keys control the secondary functions.

These options are Swapped. If you disable the "Fn Lock" and set the mode to "Lock Mode Disable/Standard", log into Windows, and Press F1, it will then MUTE the system. Even though it should act like an "F1" Key.
If you go back into BIOS, set the mode to "Lock Mode Enabled/Secondary", log into the system and Press F1, then the Help comes up.

The options are swapped on these two configure options. Please update the text in the BIOS to match the appropriate configuration. Thanks. I've included a ScreenShot of the BIOS options. "Fn Lock" does do what it describes (disables Fn-Esc). Doesn't matter if u turn this on or off. If you have it set up as I do below, the Fn Keys are set for the proper Function (F1-F12) operation. However, the text says it should do its secondary functions in this mode.

Hi.

I am a German but live in Jamaica. Often, I open the websites of german TV stations to keep me up to date with German news. But sometimes I get a message, that "because of legal reasons" a special feature cannot be broadcasted to someone outside of Germany.

I would like to know if it is possible, and how, to change my Jamaican IP address to a German IP address. Any ideas?

Hi, I just opened up a new ProBook 470 and am doing my standard installation routine. Unfortunately for legacy reasons our company network drive is as low as F:  and so it is usually the case that I have to go through disk management and change the drive letter of the CD Drive or sometimes a partition or in the past HP Tools in order to clear that drive letter for the company network drive. However, on this machine I suddenly do not have the option to do that, I have the option on other drives to change their letters, but not on the HP Tools drive which is hogging the only letter that I actually need. Does anyone know something i can do to kick HP Tools off this drive letter? I have to be able to assign F to the company drive. Perfectly happy to go through a system restore or anything else that might help if there's a way to tell it to bypass F in the process. Thanks

A:HP Tools not Drive Letter Changeable

@FuseMP Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! You should be able to do this OUTSIDE of Windows with no problems -- but for that, you will need a bootable windows partitioning utility -- and this is one:  http://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/partition-magic-boot-cd.html I use this all the time, so I know it works. Once you have this, you have a choice of media to create:1) If you can boot from CD, download and install ImgBurn and use the Write Image to Disk option to create a bootable CD.2) If you can boot from USB, download and install RUFUS and use the option to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO file.Boot your PC with the media you created. You should now be able to do partition changes without problems.Good Luck

I've been extracting a lot of files to the same folder lately and was wondering if there is a way to change the default folder that the 'extraction wizard' in windows wants to extract them to, instead of having to browse for the same folder every time. Actually, since it wants to extract it to the place that the file is already downloaded, i could just change where the default settings of where my downloads go. ha, i guess i kind of just answered my own question, but I'm still curious as to whether or not there's a way to change where extraction wizard wants to extract instead of the folder where the files are downloaded. just trying to find a way to save some time instead of browsing through the cdrive to find the same folder everytime.

The computer was perfectly fine yesterday; normal speed and using the default Windows 7 aero theme (save the background obviously).

Since today the computer is suddenly slow from the start-up already; When it comes to the "configuring windows" screen it takes about a minute instead of the second to get to the login screen. Then when I log in, everything is in the classic theme. A warning also pop-ups during start-up.

Here's a screenshot where you see the task bar in classic theme while it should be aero theme. You also see there the warning on start-up. It basically says it can't connect with a Windows server, namely the System Event Notification Service.

First of all, parts of the computer has become slow. The most notable is right-clicking on the desktop (and only the desktop!), it will take ages before the right-click menu is loaded.
Secondly, I can not change the theme, was my initial thought to do. All themes except the classic themes are greyed out and not selectable.

Abdo2, welcome to the forum. I am not certain that you can see more options in the BIOS.  Once you're in the BIOS, you can use the arrow keys to move from section to section and through the options in each section.  If the option is greyed out, it means that it is not available.  HP keeps their BIOS options to a minimum. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hello all,new user here !

I have a quick question for y'all.I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ( rev. 2.0 ) mobo, and a WD 500GB Sata-II HDD,and i was wondering what happens if i enable the following options in my bios because they are on disabled right now

SATA AHCI Mode [Disabled]
SATA Port0-1 Native Mode [Disabled]
My HDD is recognized as SATA-II by HD Tune though the speeds of my HDD are kinda slowish 30mb/sec,but anyway my main question is: Is it ok if i leave them disabled or its better to have them enabled? I'm planning on buying another SATA-II HDD and im curious of these settings.

A:A question regarding some options in my bios !

Welcome!

I don't know about the second option, but I know the first. See this tutorial before changing anything: AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista

Have you ever seen a BIOS that has absolutely no boot options other than the internal disk.

I bought this little 11.6" Asus X205TA 1.0 laptop which is actually a handy little device. It obviously has no optical drive but 2 USB ports. But the temporary and permanent boot order does only allow booting from the internal disk. I am really stuck if I want to e.g. recover from a Macrium image.

I guess I will have to make my own refresh images. And even those I can only use as long as the machine functions. Any other ideas.

A:BIOS with no boot options

That's a new one on me, Wolfgang. Seems your only option is something like Paragon Migrate and a spare SSD to swap in case of catastrophe.

Hello.I have a G40-30 laptop.I changed the hard disk and installed windows 10. The problem is when I boo my computer after post and before windows it shows me 2 messages. "Windows boot manager boot failed" where I press ok and then "Lenovo recovery system boot failed" where I press ok again and then it enters Windows normally. Those errors are because the original Hard Disk had installed 2 partitions extra one for each error. From Bios I change from EFI to legacy and I change to "legacy first" for boot priority. But after saving and restart the "legacy first" boot priority is not saved and it has changed back to EFI. The fist chane remains saved as I selected it.I tried updating the BIOS with the latest version but when I select to procced with the update the computer restarts and the BIOS is not updated.Again the computer works fine but I cannot save the changes I make to the BIOS. And I have tried to restore default setting to the BIOS but nothing changed.Any thoughts would be very helpfull.Thank you

Where can I find an operating manual for the HP branded motherboard? My Oct. 2016 (build date) Omen 870-030vx desktop has 4x SATA connectors on the MB (Z170 chipset).  It has a 512gig SSD boot drive attached to SATA#1. I attached 2x 6gig HDDs to SATA#3 and #4 thinking that HDDs are usually connected in pairs for RAID such that channel 1 would be SATA#1&#2 and channel 2 would be SATA#3 & #4. The BIOS set up lets you change from AHCI mode to RAID but it never gives you an option to choose which set of HDDs you want to place in the array - nor does it have an option to choose RAID "0" or RAID "1", etc. If RAID is choosen in the BIOS then the computer fails to boot.  What have I done wrong here?

I have two bios options in the bios that will probably make the pc faster, but I want to know that it is safe. The first one is the HT speed, it is set at 400, but I can set it to 800. Should I do this?

The second is the DRAM Dimm voltage adjustment. I have geil value ram ddr400 running at 227 fsb with 2.5-3-3-6 timings. The voltage is set at 1.6, should I set it to 1.65?

Will these settings make a performance difference?

A:Weird Bios options I don't get?????

hey there,

The ht speed is the bandwidth between the CPU and the AGP slot. You dont really need to up it unless your having trouble with your graphics card.

The only reason you would need to up the voltage on the RAM is if you have overclocked it. If you have then a higher voltage will make it more stable. If you havent, you'll just be giving it a higher voltage.

Hope this helps

Hi,
I was hoping for some help - I've been working in safe mode for a month of the battery and am at my wits end!

I have a Dell inspiron 1150 laptop. About a month ago, I reset the wireless router from the main computer (the laptop accesses wirelessly) and that is the last thing that I can recall that started the problem. It worked after I reset the router and password. The computer restarted, internet explorer 8 came up needing an update. The computer was shut off and the next time it was turned on it stopped working normally.

If the laptop is plugged into the AC adapter, it doesn't turn on and make noise, there is just a black screen with a white cursor flashing. If the laptop is on battery, then I can get into safe mode. If I just turn it on with the battery, it will not go to the login, rather has an error message about the IRQL driver and recommending that I disable the bios memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If I am in safe mode, I can use most programs and the internet.

Any thoughts? I feel like it is related to the wireless router somehow. 2 months prior to this when the wireless router was reset, the next day the same laptop had difficulty starting and eventually did but all of the folders were moved around (just an aside, not the current problem).

Any help would be great!

Dear Bleepers,

this is our strange situation:
My friend has a samsung laptop Ativ Book 2 (np270e4e) with windows 8.
After few problems when updating to 8.1 (it deleted the o.s and gived only a bsod saying that there is not any os installed), she decided to buy and install windows 7 so she disabled the uefi, setted the legacy mode and the boot priority first to the usb hdd (we have a bootable iso).
Parphaps every time we restat doesn't boot from the disk but showed the windows 8 bsod. Naturally the f4 for restore gives anoter bsod for not founding any partitions!
We discovered that it's not possible to boot from the disk, so we made a bootable usb driver with the official iso.
After that we picked up the hard disk and delete all partition from another pc and disabled all the boot driver but the usb hdd. After that it booted from the pen drive with official w7 iso.
The installation was completed in about 30 minutes. We started to install the drivers, chipset, intel storage but:
the next reboot it showed this message: all boot options are tried. press f4 key to recover with factory image using recovery or any other keys for next boot loop iteration and it was a continue loop and can't access the bios.
Strangely when the usb driver with the official w7 iso was inserted it said: "press any button for starting with usb driver"  and if we don't press anything windows started normally.
So we tried to install another time thinking it was a driver conflict but the second ti... Read more

A:All boot options are tried, no (uefi) Bios

Seems to be a common problem with Samsungs. See this thread and the post by François.  Can you access the boot menu by tapping F2 instead of holding it down? See if you can access the computer with Fatdog64. You will need to burn the iso file or use Rufus to create a bootable USB. If the USB does not boot then use GPT as a partition scheme in Rufus.

According to here F2 is the boot menu for a Ativ Book 2, 8, 9 but F10 is the UEFI access key. Try tapping F10 at boot.

I have an HP 6305 Pro with an AMD A4-5300B processor. The processor has a feature called AMD turbo that causes it to automatically overclock itself. I would like to disable this feature (as my processor gets hot - sometimes even above the safe limit - when it goes into turbo), and have heard that the way to turn off turbo this is through the BIOS. However, my computer's BIOS is extremely rudimentary, and doesn't have many options. It doesn't have any way to adjust processor settings or even to alter fan speed (other than one setting called "Fan Idle Mode"). I discovered all of this in my efforts to troubleshoot a series of BSODs I've been getting. I've heard that some computers have a hidden BIOS menu with more options. One Internet video I saw claimed that the way to access this hidden menu is to press CTRL + F10 or CTRL + F11 instead of just F10 when booting up. However, I tried this (with both combinations), and was still not able to access any hidden advanced BIOS menu. Does anyone know if the HP 6305 Pro's BIOS has a hidden menu, and if so, how to access it?

A:Hidden options in HP 6305's BIOS?

This isn't the same system that I have, but can you use AMD Overdrive in Windows. I know that AMD also allows CPU throttling in the high performance power settings - adjusting the percentages down should take care of any overheating issues. You can view status of heat in overdrive?

I have an S230u thinkpad that I am trying to install a second partition that will a be linux partition.  I am trying to install from a usb stick, but when I go into the bios to disable secure boot and change the boot order I am unable to change any of the options present.  In fact, a lot of options in the bios are uneditible.  I can't change the time or date, for example, or change the password, even though the I entered the bios by using an empty password.  How do I fix this?
