Lenovo Y50-70 Fan Crazy (post SSD installation)

Q: Lenovo Y50-70 Fan Crazy (post SSD installation)

About a month ago I replaced my failing HDD with a Crucial 1TB SSD. Clean install of Window 10, updated BIOS and all drivers. For the first three weeks or so, no problem. Around week 4 my fans started acting oddly and have gotten progressively worse. Now they're very noisy and running at full speed pretty much all the time. Core temps in mid- to high 40C, disk at 32C, so temps are not bad. I reopened the case, removed the fans, and checked/cleaned the area out just to make sure nothing got inside by mistake. The funny thing is, if I pick up the laptop and wiggle it around, the fans will momentarily stop, sometimes even slow down for a while. If I run the "Fan dust removal" utility, that will quiet them down for a bit, too. What should I do next? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The Geforce driver version I'm updating to is 397.93 on my Lenovo y510p laptop.  It houses a soldiered Geforce gt 750m gpu.

I tried this several times.  After post-installation, the OS becomes slightly unresponsive; opening programs execute slower.  Eventually Windows 10 crashed with the blue screen of death claiming its a power state failure.  Even if I do restart the same blue screen of death appears.  There are times when upon rebooting after that blue screen of death another blue screen of death follows up claiming the critical process has died.  Fortunately with some backup I was able to revert to the state prior to installation.

Methods tried so far but didn't work
I've changed advanced power settings under the balanced power plan.  With Wireless Adapter Settings for Power Saving Mode set to Maximum Performance when plugged in, Intel(R) Graphics Settings on its Graphics Power Plan to Maximum Performance when plugged in and PCI Express's Link State Power Management to Off when plugged in.

Furthermore, I've set Nvida's Control Panel to Global setting.

Can anyone suggest a better alternative and/or correct me where I went wrong?

My computer has went nuts on me. Never had a problem with it for 3.5 years until yesterday. This is a long story because a lot has happened so I hope you will be patient with me and read it all. lol

Out of the blue yesterday my tower made a high screech sound then froze. I restarted it, backed up all my files because i had a feeling something terrible was going to happen. Sure enough, a few hours later I got a blue screen. I tried several times to get back on and sometimes i would be able to stay on long enough to start a virus scan but most of the time, it would blue screen in the middle. I attempted to do a few system restores but they would not work. I went to bed after a few hours annoyed and exhausted.

This morning starting at 7am, decided to do a windows repair. I got halfway through it and it froze at 34 minutes remaining, rebooted and re-attempted several times but same thing kept happening. I searched google for help and found a solution, i had to go to the command prompt and delete some inf files that were causing the repair to freeze. I did that with no problem and restarted. Thats when all hell broke loose. My computer no longer would make the post beep and windows repair would just restart right after "windows is resuming your repair" or something like that, dont remember the exact words. It would restart over and over in a infinite loop. I tried to boot from cd to maybe format the computer completely but nothing, still did the same thing, also ... Read more

Have you tried running MemTest on the RAM?

This sounds to me like either a HDD fault, or a RAM fault, some where, some files are not being read correctly, either that or the CD you are using is corrupt/scratched.

Try making another XP disk, see if that works.. also did you try just using 1 stick of RAM rather than both of them at the same time?

Try going into your BIOS and resetting everything to the defaults. IF you don't know how to do this just ask :)

Any assistance getting wife off back would be greatly appreciated!

This is the first problem I have had with an ASUS Board.

It is an ASUS P4B266 and suddenly one morning she tries to get on it and it doesnt boot. Everything powers but the POST Voice doesnt play and the machine will not boot.

I tried changing Memory, Disconnecting drives, removing AGP/PCI cards, etc, etc and still everything powers and no post. I also tried resetting CMOS, this didnt work either.

I am hearing that there may be other possibilities than the board being fried. I cannot really afford to replace this system at this time.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-H. Graphics card is Geforce GTX 650 Ti (2gb); 500 watt PSU. When card is installed in PCI e slot and not plugged in, I get onboard graphics. As soon as I plug the card in, the display goes black. Also, when the card is unplugged and the pc turned on; the fans are louder than when the card is plugged in. I have already swapped out the motherboard; PSU and tried another graphics card. Bios shows date of 1/2016 so I'm assuming it does not need to be flashed. Tried pulling the memory sticks. All result in the exact same problem. Bios is set to PCI E and is set to auto select the PCI e slot when a card is plugged in. I am completely stumped at this point. Any help would be much appreciated. Called the geek squad and they had no suggestions....

I have a GTX295 and was using 190.38's with no problems. I decided to try the new 190.61's so I uninstalled the old drivers and also did a drivesweaper (guru3d) iteration.

Then when I reboot WIN7 try's to install some lame driver and asks me to reboot again, if I try to install the 190.61's over that... The control panel is messed up and also the right click Nvidia control panel context menu is not available!!

Not to mention the Nhancer won't open because it keeps saying theres an error in NVAPS.XML... Driving me freaking crazy!

I can't get WIN7 to not install its lame ass drivers , I've tried using 'disable' in device-manager and then installing the new Nvidia drivers, but same freaking problems... No context menu and Nhancer not working. AGHR!!!!

A:Nvidia driver installation issues driving me crazy!!!

System specs and Win7 version would be helpful. The older builds would try to reinstall the drivers but not the newer builds. It may help to shut off auto updates and disconnect from the internet before you uninstall the old drivers.

You might also want to try to newer WHQL 190.62's.

Hy guys.. I registered on this forum mainly to ask this question but that would be very mean of me.. so I hope I can stick around and help out with my crappy little knowledge about computers

My laptop was running Windows Vista Home Premium earlier until one of my IT friends upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate (works for Microsoft.. so I got it for free ) and hence, successful installation

Im exceptionally happy with it so far.. its so much more faster aye! But there is one problem.. which is that every time I single click on a file in the explorer.. there is a preview right?.. before it previews it comes up with this error which is REALLY annoying. Even my Windows Internet Explorer doesnt work properly until the errors finish doing their job.

Please help me fix this... my system specs are on my profile or if its inexcessible here you go..

hi kimo_land,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try to:

1. Make sure you use the original 65W 20V/3.25A or 90W 20V4.5A AC adapter that came with the unit.

2. Plug the AC adapter in another wall outlet in your house (preferrably another side of the house) - if this works, the original wall outlet that you used before when you got the issue may not be properly grounded.

3. Perform a power drain by:a turning the PC OFF. Remove the battery & AC adapter then hold the power button for 30secs. When done, reinsert the AC adapter and battery then boot into the BIOS by pressing F2. When inside the BIOS, press F9 to reset default settings and press F10 to save and exit.

4. Update the Touchpad Driver below:

Synaptics Touchpad Driver       Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)
Windows 8 32bit / 64bit            Windows 8 32bit / 64bit
0mtp05w8.exe                         0mtp15ww.exe90.5MB                                   243MB

Let me know your findings

I was just wondering if it was at all possible to install something on one computer ,that has already been installed on another computer, without the original disc or installation file.
For example say I have ImbBurn installed on my PC and my friend wants it. Without the exe and without downloading it again. Or perhaps a game without the disc.
I have no expectations that is is possible. I'm just throwing the query out there.

A:Post-installation duplicating?

Hi,

No, without the original installation setup data, you can't normally transfer programs just by copying their folders over to another computer...you really can't even move them on your own computer, since theWindows Registry will contain markers to the installed location, normally Program Files directory, and changing the location will/may produce some errors.... very advanced users can adjust program locations and make Registry edits, but it's a tedious and often problematic shot in the dark...

There are some "programs" that consist of a very small set of files, such as a stand-alone .exe type of program, that can be copied to other locations, usually these will be freeware utilities or diagnostic tools...and not, full featured programs, or purchased games or programs.

Especially purchased software, games, etc>>> they will have a built in checking tool that is "smart" and knows the program has been installed once, and may not let you again, even with the original CD! under the same License key, if it uses one.

You may be scratching your head, wondering how then, do people move their installed Programs, data, and even Windows onto a new hard disk when one fails....they use drive copying software, to copy the disk bit for bit onto a new, blank drive, and that is one instance when it will most likely work, however not always, with all programs.

And, in as far as the newer operating systems, the copied drive must go back into... Read more

I have installed [4/5/2011] Win7 SP1 final (via windows update) on an Acer

Aspire 1410-8414 notebook, with Win7 home premium installed.

Now no browser [IE, FF or Chrome] will load any website. The computer

connects to the internet, and media players will open streaming net

radio and tv stations without a problem, and program updating works

too; so it is just a browser issue.

The strange thing is that the embeded web browser within Winamp does

function properly, so only stand-alone browsers won't load.

What I have done:
1] In Control Pannel>AdminTools>Services: computer browser and all
relevant IP services are started and running properly.

2] In PC Tools firewall: unrestricted in/out privilages are allowed for
all 3 browsers, and network status is "active".

3] There is no apparent conflict with Avast6 web or network shields.

4] I have reset/refreshed: winsock,ipv4,ipv6 and flushed dns.

I can't think of anything else to do. I don't want to have to

uninstall SP1 to be able to get online. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi all,
Recently i formatted my C drive and installed XP SP2 Home Edition (Of course not a Genuine one) and had done WPA kill on it.
I have a Registered Mcafee virusscan with me and i tried to install it through net from My Account facility available in MCafee online. It was installed and it had a quick scan and prompted me that some virus were detected and could not be removed.
After which Mcafee installer started connecting to internet to install the final product but it shows that i am not connected to internet and to retry once i am connected. However i am all the time connected to internet and can do other works. Also i tried to go on the Mcafee website but the browser doesnot open the webpage and to my surprise all the enti-virus web page could not be opened. I tried to install Avast but even there some error log was created.
Finally i installed Older version of Mcafee that i have in CD. But still cannot get updates.

The reason of formatting was:-
1.) My software use to crash
2.) System gets restart and showing Microsoft recovered from Serious error.
3.) When i do multi-tasking the restart was more frequent.

And i guess the above problem of restart and Software crash do persist.
Can someone help me on how to solve the problem updates as well the restart and crash.

Hi,

After being locked-out from my own admin account, I tried to do a clean install with the Win 8 disc post-bios. However, few mins into the disc installation, then the mouse and keyboard freezes. Seems that it was functioning well for 2 minutes. If I'm fast, I'll be able to get to cd-key window and it freezes there.

I tried with Windows 7 disc, I just managed to get to the screen which asks me to choose the language. Tried with Ubuntu, did not even finished loading. I also tried removing the SSD and just mound the 2 TB WD Black, same results as before. This leads me to think that this is not a Windows 8/7/Ubuntu issue and is something to do with the hardware. I don't know which one is causing the problem.

However, if I boot normally, which I can, everything is fine. I do notice that sometimes when I try restart the pc when I'm in windows, it does not boot but just shuts down. Happens often especially when I try to update the computer. However, if I restart the pc, just before putting the password for the windows 8 account-after turning the pc on, I can restart the pc normally. I have a suspicion that the BIOS is not responsive after sometime I've turned on the pc. This is also causing all the other problems. However, I am not sure what is causing the problem.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I am currently building an image for work with all the drivers required to support all of our models. So far, i am able to properly inject all of the drivers and distribute the image without an issue, all except one driver.
Intel USB 3.0 EXtensible Host Controller driver. For some of the models, when installing the drivers automatic before windows loads, it stops with a BSOD.

I would like to have the driver installed automatic, but only if needed. As if the PC does a "Scan for Hardware Changes", notices it needs the drivers, then installs them from where i put them. Is this possible?

I can put the drivers on a desktop of the admin, and install them manually of course. It only takes a few seconds. However with the model in question, it requires these drivers to be installed before any of the usb ports work at all. I am forced to use PS2 keyboard and mouse , which is a problem with our KVM.

I would appreciate any advice at all, as i cannot find the answer to this particular issue in the forums.
Thank you!

Evening,

Earlier tonight I attempted installing XP Pro onto a friend's drive through my own PC. I took out his harddrive (laptop, older drive, but I made sure it met the system specs) and hooked it to mine via USB, just as if it were an external drive. It was recognized, everything went fine. I tossed his XP Pro disc into my drive, set the system to boot from the CD drive, and proceeded to delete / re-partition his drive (went with NTFS) in the Windows Setup screen. I instructed Windows to install itself onto his HDD and took a stroll. I come back twenty minutes later and my computer's in a loop of resetting itself, booting to a certain point, then resetting itself again.

The problem: after the initial display information, it comes to the DOS window that says "Please choose an operating system," just as it ordinarily would if you had multiple OS on one machine. Fine, no problem. Except it doesn't allow me to choose. The countdown time for selecting is set at "0" and my keyboard is nonresponsive. I KNOW the kb works, as I can enter the BIOS and fiddle around in there, but once it reaches that "Please choose an OS" window, it locks up. About five seconds later, it resets itself and does it all over again.

Any ideas? I'm not even sure why Windows tried putting the XP Pro onto MY system. I generally know what I'm doing and I know, factually, that I installed it onto my friend's HDD, not my own. Why's it showing up on my ... Read more

A:OS Installation problems -- post-boot lockup

**UPDATE

OK. If I just power on my system normally and have it boot from my HDD (which now has XP Pro listed as the most recent OS, and XP Home beneath that, in the "select your OS" list), I cannot do anything in the DOS window that prompts you to choose an OS to start. BUT -- if I boot from the XP Pro CD I have in the disc drive, and let that time out ("Press any key to boot from CD. . . ."), and it boots to the HDD SECONDARILY instead of primarily, I can select an OS. I choose Home, as it's the only complete/working OS I have on the machine. The computer pauses a moment, then goes to the "Microsoft XP" logo with the windows and the loading bar beneath it, as if everything were proceeding as normal. That logo disappears and the screen goes black, same as if it were about to bring up the blue "Welcome" screen. But it stays black. Doesn't ever go past that point.

I can access safe mode, but that freezes on "Mup.sys." I'm looking into that now to see what that entails, but that's where I'm at right now. still can't access my desktop, but I'm getting further than I was earlier...

Could somebody please give any advice for the following problem?

I have just installed sp2 and basically I can not access any of the administrative tools from the control panel. When I click on one of the tools the following message appears: -

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I am running XP home edition, and before the installation of sp2 I did have administrator permissions.

Without removing/un-installing sp2, is there anything I can do in order to access the tools?

Any help much appreciated.

How long should a "Windows Checking For Updates" after reinstalling Win 7? Due to functional/performance issues (likely due in part to resizing partitions), I have reinstalled Win 7 Pro with SP1. Once installing all of the mother board hardware
drivers and verifying that there were no unknown hardware devices (i.e. no black exclamation points in Device Manager), I initiated a Windows Update check. After 6 hours of the "Checking For Updates" just moving the green bar I broke down and did
another fresh installation, but I used my Windows 7 Ultimate w/ SP1. I again installed all hardware drivers and started the Windows Update process. As of 1800 08/17/2016, the "Checking For Updates" has been running for nearly 18 hours. How long should
this take?
I have installed the current version of WUAPP (7.6.7600.320). I have also gone in circles trying to find a way to download the updates for offline installation, but the farthest I have gotten is directed to the Microsoft Update Catalog, but the add-on always
fails to install (even after reboots). I have verified that the update service (WUAUSERV) is running, but I do not see/cannot track the service to a process (e.g. WUAAPP).

Is there somewhere to download the post-SP1 updates for Win 7 Ult? Thank you in advance.

Hi Everyone,

I have just installed an SSD into my computer running XP (migration from mechanical drive to SSD was simple with the help of Paragon Migrate OS to SSD). Everything is working ok, however I would ideally like to set my BIOS to AHCI (it is currently set to IDE).

Towards this end I have been trying to follow the tutorial How to enable AHCI after having installed Windwos XP.

I am at a loss concerning how to install AHCI drivers on my ASUS M5A78L-M LX motherboard because it features an ATI chipset on the Southbridge (as can be seen from the CPU-Z screen capture below) -

The instructions in the tutorial specifically focus on an Intel chipset, and they mention that I should be able to right click on each of the "IDE Channel" entries under Device Manager and manually update the driver. However whenever I do this with the appropriate driver (downloaded from the ASUS M5A78L-M LX support page) Windows informs me that it cannot find a "better driver" and leaves the existing one in place!

I have attempted to enable AHCI in the BIOS without following the instructions provided, and was met (not surprisingly) with a BSOD and a quick computer restart. After setting the BIOS back to IDE the computer boots again, so I haven't done any damage to XP (thankfully).

I am now at a loss regarding how to proceed, if anybody has any advise can you please let me know.

Kind Regards,

Davo

You might try the instructions from the Superuser forums (I'd try the green checked one first).

Okay, so I have a Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.4 Dual Boot Set Up.

Windows 10 was behaving strange, all the text and icons were blocked out by white boxes. A through Google search yielded no relevant results. A repair made things worse. So I decided to reinstall the OS.

After reinstalling and then repairing GRUB (for those familiar with Linux), I saw that there were two loaders, or instances for Windows 10.

The first Windows 10 loader is what is essentially the System Reserved Partition but it doesn't work, and clicking on it takes me to:

The second Windows 10 loader boots into the new installation and works fine.

Now, this is what Disk Management displays:

So, it appears that during installation I hastily ignored the partition screen, and installed everything on C:
And the System Reserved partition appears to be pointless.

The help that I require is in deciding if it's okay to remove the System Reserved partition, or is it better to revive it by assigning it as the System partition, and if so how would I do that?

Thanks for reading, and would be delighted if anyone has any advice.

A:Please help with my post installation issue obsolete system partition

I hope the face that I mentioned Ubuntu hasn't scared everyone?
It's essentially just a Windows issue.
Is the best solution to delete the System Partition, as it's useless, or is it better to do a repair of some sort, and have the System Partition to serve its purpose?

Hi All,  This is my first post on these forums and I have recently in the last couple of months purchased the above computer. I have made a couple of upgrades to it, in the form of an SSD hard drive and using the Crucial memory scanner I have upgraded the ram from 4gb to 16gb.  It now runs extremely fast indeed, but when I turn the computer on, when it posts it beeps twice, two short beeps, then continues to load windows 7 fine and works flawlessley.  I have been trying to diagnose the two short beeps upon startup for a few weeks now and am getting no where fast. I found the following article on these very forums but the suggestions dont seem to have made a difference to my situation.  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-and-ErazerX/Lenovo-H330-2-short-beeps-at-power-up-but-... This issue can be intermittant, I would say it happens 6 to 7 times out of every 10 times the machine is turned on. Initially I wasnt getting any form of error on the screen at all, until I went into the BIOS, cleared the error log and rebooted the machine. Then I got the error as follows - Error 0162 : Setup data integrity check failure Now this error code does not seem to exist on the Lenovo website, I found the following links which were helpful in showing me all sorts of other codes and beep sequences, the first one lists the two short beeps and links to an error code list - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-46... Hi Everyone,

I have a DKT-702 Computer (OEM brand, from Harris Technology in Australia). I have identified that it uses a Foxconn H67M-V motherboard, which utilizes the Intel H67 chipset. I would now like to add a RAID1+0 array (utilizing 4 x 1 Terabyte Drives) to my computer, however I need to keep my primary hard drive (a Samsung EVO 840 - 250 Gig SSD).

The motherboard manual clearly indicates that the motherboard does support the RAID type that I intend on implementing. I have a little bit of experience with RAID on personal computers, so I plan to go about the task as follows -

1). Disconnect the primary (SSD) drive
2). Connect the 4 x 1T Disks
3). Enter the BIOS and set the "IDE Mode" to RAID
4). Enter the RAID Utility & setup the RAID volume
5). Partition the new RAID volume as I see fit (it will only be for data, no OS).
6). Plug the primary (SSD) drive back in
7). Start the computer up
8). Install the Intel Matrix RAID drivers into Windows (7)
9). Reboot

Given the following intended procedure is there anything that I should be particularly careful about? Alternatively if anybody can suggest a better procedure I am very open to adapting my plan. My primary goal is to keep my primary drive safe from data loss, and to implement a new RAID1+0 array purely for the storage of data.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

I recently acquired a lenovo laptop B570 CHEAP. had cracked screen and I knew so when I bought it, figured it might be worth fixing seeing as lenovo is GOOD stuff, right? Anyways I turned it on after ordering replacement charger from Ebay and it just sits on the POST screen. Any idea what could be wrong?? I tap the F2 to enter setup and it will say please wait for like 5 minutes-10 minutes. I pulled the HDD and it still wont pass post. It appears to have been dropped somewhat onto its side, hence the cracked screen. Is it a orst case/fried motherboard scenario??

Greetings, I've been a happy owner of the following notebook. Yesterday after using Lenovo Vantage I got info that a new BIOS is available 1.35. I updated, the system rebooted, it was all fine and working. I eventually turned off and rebooted the laptop a couple of times during the day and still everything was fine, until later that day in the evening I put the laptop to sleep (closing the lid). After trying to wake it up I got a cold shower. - The screen doesn't light up- There is no POST or boot picture at all- The Keyboard backlight lights up and works- The adaptive touchbar works (and cycles thru the two menus)- The fan spins for about 5 secs after power om The things I have tried so far: - Connecting to an external monitor to see if there would be any activity - no signal- Tried pulling out the battery and draining the system (holding power button for a minute)- Tried the reset button. Unfortunately nothing worked, and im stuck and in need of assistance. Thank you in advance for your kind advices.

I am running Windows XP. Prior to last Saturday, everything worked fine.

Last Saturday, Comcast installed a cable modem at my new apartment, using my Toshiba Satellite laptop to complete the installation. At some point during the installation process, the technician had me enter information, and one of the fields had Mozilla Firefox selected for something (I was on the phone when he insisted i sit down and fill in the fields, so I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been). Currently, Firefox now has perfect access to the internet, but nothing else is able to get online access, all even when connected via hardline directly to the modem. When I say nothing else, i mean iTunes ("iTunes could not access the iTunes store. You do not have permission to access the requested resource. please make sure your network connection is active and try again"), Gmail Notifier ("An error has occurred. A:post-Comcast modem installation, can only access internet via Mozilla Firefox

Alright first off, sounds like its the firewall. Is the modem and modem/router combo? If so its possible it has a built in firewall. If you go into CMD (From the Run Command)
do this:
Run:
"CMD"
type : "ipconfig"
Copy the IP address given for the "Default Gateway" (This is the IP address for your router/modem.
Open firefox and type that IP address in
You should be prompted for input a User ID and Password.
Default for most routers is Admin / Password
Once inside navigate around for a "Security" section, and look to see if there is a Firewall running, if so disable it and try some other application (ie I-tunes) once you apply the settings.
If Admin and Password doesn't work
Google the name of your router + password and you should get some hits on what is the default user id and password for the router you have.

Happy Hunting.

Hey guys, I am having a weird problem with my Lenovo Y510P, there's a LVDS cable which connects the motherboard to the lcd. When I disconnect this cable, the system boots perfectly and I can see the desktop when connected over hdmi to TV. However when I connect it back, the laptop doesnt even POST, no lights, no fans, nothing. I am unable to find the source of this problem, is it the LCD that's dead or some component on the motherboard? A short somewhere?
