I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all! Hope y'all well!

A collegue and I have successfully cloned and deployed a Server 2003 OS from one machine to another with completely different hardware! (With a little help from Elvandil)

The server boots and runs very well. It is being used as a terminal server and has Citrix installed. It is on the company domain which uses server 2003 sbs as the domain controller. All IP addresses on the T/Server are set the same as when the OS was on the original machine.

The old machine had a HP 10/100/1000 network card. The new machine has a Realtek 10/100/1000 NIC. The T/Server knew the HP NIC was installed, but not present. We removed the HP card from the registry.
From the SBS server we can ping the T/Server and browse it's drive on the network, however we cannot remote on to the T/Server via RDC or connect to it using Citrix clients installed on the domain workstations.

We think the network Pc's + SBS svr is still listening for connections from the HP NIC and therefore causing the remote issues.

Are we correct? If so, how can we resolve this issue??

I know there are some very experienced people here and would love to hear their views.

Thanks for taking the time to read! Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Hi,

We have a server 2003 office domain. It connects to the internet via a sonicwall router then out to Charter on a static IP. The gateway is a static IP. When our server with Ad that controls all users is up, we have internet, and when it is down we don't. But, the gateway is set in all workstations, so we are trying to figure out why a workstation can't get out to the internet even when our server is down?

Thanks!

We've been having intermittant issues with Outlook 2007 "not responding", hanging up, freezing...whatever you want to call it....after weeks and weeks of troubleshooting...today I have narrowed it down to the belkin 54g wireless router.

I did this by finally taking the router out of the mix and could not cause the outlook 2007 to lock up again...thought it could be a lan cable...tried both cables in that mix from the DSL modem to the computer without the router and it still worked fine.

Hooked back up the router and managed to lock it up again...SO...all that being said is there a setting or someting on the router that I may be missing or something that someone knows about that I do not?

BTW, if this matters at all...we have a second computer that is also running outlook 2007 attached to the same hosted exchange server and it's having no problems at all.

Previously we looked at any problems with ost and pst files, ran Outlook diagnostics, etc to no avail - the router is the only problem that I could find.

The computer this is running on is an XP and all firmware is up-to-date on the router and all updates for MS office have been made.

I am desperate, if anyone can help, I would be most appreciative and would be willing to pay if someone can fix it.

thanks,

Brandon Morris

It sounds like you have a flaky router. You might just need to replace it. If it works without it and you plug it back in and it breaks again it's the only explanation. If you have another router somewhere try switching them. Hope this helps.

I have just replaced an old XP box with our first Windows 8.1 Pro client. Joined the domain (Server 2008 R2, using active directory), seamed quite normal. When I rebooted, I received the normal windows logon screen, user name & password, entered those and logged in. The problem being, all resources on the network required me to enter network credentials. For example, try and double click on file server get following 'Windows Security' window:
Enter network credentials. Enter your credentials to connect to: SERVER.
The system cannot contact a domain controller to service the authentication request. Please try again later

I have: unjoined and rejoined client to domain; Checked active directory and the computer is correctly registered. Nothing is helping. Please help.

A:Network Credentials issue, win 8.1 client & Server 2008 AD

According to Paul Thurrott you need to add the credentials by going into the Windows vault per method #2 in the link below. If you don't add the credentials to the vault then Windows won't remember them despite checking the box to remember credentials.

He is using Windows server 08 and Homegroups with Windows 8 and he shows both methods to access network shares on the server.

I have 2003 server on a dual nic PC.
there are 2 broadband connections coming into me.
nic 1 (on board broadcom adapter) has Virgin Media broadband coming in via a netgear gigabit wireless router (DSL).
nic 2 is a netgear GA311 REV A1 pci card connected to a bt hub.

dns is running on both routers.

I want my work pc's (home office) running on the virgin side of the network (which they are) and to see the server (which they can).

I want my family pc's to work on the BT side of the network (which they are) but I also want them to see the server.

The problem is, they cannot see the server even though it is connected by the second nic to this network.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just don't understand it.

Heres what happens. I'll load call of duty, and go search for servers. works great, finds who knows how many servers.

go into a server, and play for a little. i'll decide to change servers a little later.
go back to the browser, search, and it starts "searching" thru thousands of servers and nothing comes up. refresh it 5 or 6 times, i'll be lucky if 50 servers come up.

i've reinstalled the game 4 times, patched it to 1.6, and then 1.7 each time.

the other issue it has is sometimes I'll try to connect to a server, and it just sits at this screen saying "verifying Key" or something of the like. about 30 seconds later it'll say "server connection timeout", basically saying it couldn't connect. It'll drop me back to the main menu, where I'll go to refresh the server list again, and then nothing comes up even though it'll search like 4000 servers.

My key is valid, and i've had it for like a year now.

I'm thinking about just getting a PCI Express network card and forgetting about the onboard network controllers but I don't know if thats actually the problem and I'm not pissing away $20 if its not going to fix it...

I've reinstalled the chipset drivers, and I've uninstalled the Forceware Access manager (which was DOUBLING my ping on COD4 servers that actually worked)

Hi,

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.

Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
Check various registry entry settings.
Disabled cashing on the File server.
Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2

Any help or ideas would be most welcome.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

Hello Guys,

Is there a way via scipting to force a pc to refresh their local printer
settings from the print server ? We have enabled Duplexing as the default for
printing ( conserve that paper ! ) for our HP Laserjet printers on the
Print Server, but if a user goes on their local printer settings and unchecks
duplexing, it will not re-pull that device setting from the print server
unless you delete and then re-add the printer on the local machine. Is there
a way to have the printer settings pulled from the server without have to
delete and then readd the locally installed network printer ?

A friend is moving his business, and the new business park that he's setting up shop in does not have anyway to get any wired internet to his building, excluding a T1 line, which he can't justify the cost of.

One windows 7 machine acts as the server, primarily for Quickbooks database, and there are two other windows 7 machines that are clients, reading off said database.

He's getting one of those usb dongles for wireless internet service, for the server only (the other two computers will be tethered to a smartphone for internet for QB and windows updates periodically).

They do NOT want to share the servers wireless connection to the other machines.

My only concern was if the server will continue to try to check the LAN for internet connectivity, or will it check both network connections when one fails, or is there a setting I can tell them to change to ensure it knows to go to the wireless dongle for internet all the time, without interfering with the workstations talking to the server over the LAN to get to the database?

The setup at the old office was business class DSL, they are using a relatively new Linksys router, which had the DSL authentication information.

Thank you!

I managed to find a solution this morning, for anyone that's interested, the whole article is here: Multiple Network Connections at the Same Time on Windows | Ivan Zlatev

But the short answer is, under the advanced properties of TCP/IP v4, uncheck automatic metric, set your internet to a value of 1, and the LAN to a value of 9999.

I have four computers that are connected at any given time to the home network. I believe have two issues here.

The first, all of the computers connect and surf the Internet at very slow speeds. Sometimes it seems like I'm back on Dial-up. My MacBook (which is my main computer I work from) connects to the Internet with an Ethernet cable directly into the DSL box. Even if I turn the other three computers off in the office I still run slow on the Internet. Any thoughts on how to improve this? My DSL provider says its an issue with our setup. Great thanks for the help!

Second, my Mac overall seems to be running very slow. I have over 14GB of available space so I would not think that the computer is in overload.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

A:Moving at turtle speed - Internal Network issue or DSL issue?

If you have more than one computer, and all exhibit the same symptoms, it's hard to believe they're all bad.
Pick one that doesn't exhibit any other issues and do this:

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Hello, I have read a few similar posts and the resolutions but it doesn't appear to be working for me. Any help is appreciated. I apologize if I am leaving out any important info.

I'm running a Windows XP PC, wired to a Verizon FIOS modem/router, model MI424WR. I have a second computer connected via wire to this and a third computer connected wirelessly. As of 2 hours ago and for months, all 3 machines have worked fine.

My PC froze while playing a game and I reset it. This is not common but it has happened before without issue upon start up. However this time I received a limited/no connectivity message. When repair was attempted it didn't work because "the network did not assign a network address to the computer". The 2nd and 3rd PC work fine though.

Back on my first PC, when I view the details there is a physical address, IP address, and subnet mask, BUT there is no Default Gateway, DNS Server, or WINS Server.

I have tried the other suggestions I read about RESET TCP/IP stack and RESET WINSOCK entries then restarting my machine but neither of these worked.

Under device manager my NVIDEA nForce networking adapter says it is working properly and there isn't any red X or yellow indicators.

The only weird thing I saw which i have not seen discussed here is when I run IPCONFIG /ALL: It says IP Routing enabled: NO and WINS Proxy enabled: NO.

A:Server Issue

Hi Coop-Show. The only thing I see in the log that is questionable is:E:\hi.exeDo you know what this is? if not then terminate the process and delete the file.If you are unsure then do the following:Go to the Jotti's malware scan page and use the buttons at the top of the page to browse to this file(s) on your hard drive to submit for a scan:E:\hi.exeSeveral scanning engines will be used to check the file for any threats. Please post the results of the scans back here.Cheers.OT

Windows solution permanent? You must be new to computers. A system restore was was a bit drastic for a DNS problem. Next time post the problem first.

I can successfully ping the server from an XP Pro PC by using either the IP or the DNS server name. However, from the server, I am unable to ping the same PC using the IP address. What could be wrong? Could the PCs be blocking a Ping response?

A:Ping Issue From Server

Check the firewall settings for your ICMP choices. To respond to a ping you must enable an echo of ICMP requests through the firewall.

Can anyone help me?

We have an NT server, and currently having Major problems with people who don't know what they are doing deleting folders!!!

Is there any way of allowing users (W98) to access and save documents to the folders without them being about to delete them?

A:NT Server Security Issue

If the file system is NTFS, then you can set permissions to write and modify but not delete if you want. If the users are connecting through a share, you should set share permissions that way also. I would set both if able. Don't worry about w98 machines seeing a NTFS share, it uses the server to translate and looks like a FAT folder to the network users. To set share permissions, right-click on the folder and select sharing and then the permissions button set only admins and system as having full control, and everyone (or domain users) to read write and change. That is for win2k, options for NT may read modify instead of change. For folder permissions, right-click on the folder and select properties and the security tab, click permissions and set accordingly. Hope this helps.

Why is it that after I login into my test server it takes five minutes on the loading your personal setting box. I have been testing DNS and kept messing and having to re-install and it would never take that long and now I got AD working it takes forever. I know the one and only fix I have experienced is to re-install. But just wondering how I would troubleshoot it. The preparing network connection takes a longer time also.

I have a webserver that i was using comcast to host, then i switched to bellsouth dsl. The problem is i can get to the server which is at dailylol.dynalias.org only locally, if i type in the ip 98.64.192.--- it will not load same with the ftp server, any ideas, i have changed the dyndns account to forward so im lost as to what may be the problem, any help would be great thanks.

A:Comcast to dsl server issue

If bellsouth's terms of service do not permit running a public server on your account, they may be blocking incoming connections to common server ports.

I just tried a tracert to dailylol.dynalias.org and the reverse DNS lookup for that URL came back as 192.168.1.2 which is totally wrong. The whole 192.168.x.x range of IP addresses is reserved for private IP addresses on LANs, not public IP addresses on the Internet.

I just have a quick question, I have setup a VPN using RRAS and L2TP shared secret, etc. From the client computer it connects no problem, and I can access shared resources on the LAN like it's supposed to work. The only problem is when I connect to the VPN, my browser doesn't work, can't get external internet to work and copying files from outlook 2007 to a shared resource seems to lock outlook up.

I'm not sure if this has something to do with sending all traffic over vpn or not. Is there any steps I can take to quickly resolve this issue? This seems to be the only thing affecting the users at the office.

Thanks,

A:Server 2003 VPN Issue

Is the VPN setup as a separate subnet example: if host 192.168.1.100 client 192.168.0.100.

Also depending on ISP and other possible settings you may need to use other DNS servers .

If so on the client try OpenDNS https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/

Do this on the Client not on Server. Reboot let us know!

Im not sure if I started this thread in the correct location so if it needs to be moved please do so.

My server at the house has Windows 2003 server, I have IIS installed and have one of my web pages hosted behind my Linksys wireless router/firewall. My server has a fixed IP address and the router has the IP address open with port 80. I do not have a static IP address. However, Dynsite and Zone Edit take care of that and the web site works fine. Now the issue, I have a total of four web sites to host, IIS gives me an IP address error when I try to start one of the other web sites.
It has to be something silly im missing.

Hi,
I was created a DHCP server in Server-2008 r2 but it didn't provide IP automatically to client and on the other way in the roles sections when I click on DHCP, it didn't expand as other roles expand.
Please provide the solution.
Thanks,

Linux running Fedora 14 is the NFS server and License server for my Toon Boom Animation software. Mac Pro running Mountain Lion is the client.

This set up previously worked but after a power outage the software will not open on the Mac since it cannot verify the license with the linux license server.

Network setup:

Motorola Uverse Wireless Router/Modem ---> TrendNet Switch ---> Server and Client

Manual IP addresses set for the server and client

I have to use NFS Manager on the Mac to be able to view and edit the NFS mounting, but upon starting it, I recieve an error message saying that the Mac has reverted back to Bonjour only operation and that there is a possible problem with the forward and backward name resolutions.

I think the router is handling the DNS, and I don't know how to resolve the issue... I'm not all that knowledgeable about advanced networking and have been barely getting by until now.

Both computers are talking to each other since I can access files that are on the Mac from the Linux machine via SMB. Haven't figured out how to access linux files from the Mac though.

The office is running Windows 2000 server and MS Exchange server with approx. 6 machines connected. When anybody in the office e-mails, the recipient is getting a different looking e-mail address than the one it is coming from. For example, if [email protected] sends an e-mail the recipient sees the e-mail coming from [email protected]. When the recipient tries to reply to the e-mail they get a "non-deliverable" message. What could be the cause of this and why would it be happening to everybody in the office at the same time? Thanks.

Look at your user settings in Active Directory. Generally, email accounts are the same as the user name unless you set it up manually or set up a policy that creates email accounts in the format you mentioned.

I have a website on a server with Windows Server 2008 and been having firewall issues. On the client and server computers Privatefirewall v7 is installed. When the firewall is enabled on the server the website and VPN stops working although FTP, POP3 and SMTP servers work.

On the server the IP 192.168.0.2 has been added to the trusted sites and the 192.168.0.0 has been added to the trusted network. Windows firewall has been disabled on both computers.

Server
------
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Client
-----
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
any help would be appreciated

We have a Windows 2003 server with two nics in it. Nic one is for user access to the server (192.168.215.27), Nic two is connected to a switch that is used for tape backup purposes only (10.10.0.16). The server is running our testing software from QuestionMark and everything is working great. But they have a tool that runs from users desktop called Author Manager that allows testing administrators to edit test question, answers and scoring.
Okay here is the problem, as long as nic two is enabled the author cannot connect to the server. If disabled then no problems at all. No routing is enabled and a persistent static route has been added to tell all 192.168.215.0 traffic is to use the default gateway of 192.168.215.1 only. We have seen this before with VPN client connections because checking with a tracert showed that the last connect was to the 10.10.0.0 subnet, but adding the persistent static route would correct that problem. QM support will only say that they do not support 2 nic servers, which I find silly.
So the question is has anyone had this issue before and is there a way to fix it. And if routing is disabled why would a nic pass its traffic off to another nic. Is thier anyway to force the two nics to isolate themselves from each other.

Good day to you:

In the last few weeks the house hold has been losing wireless connections while wired connections stay up and running.

I suspect its my nephew who insists on leaving the router open as in no security - no mac filtering - no wep - wpsk etc. since he allows gamers to access his computer used as a server. Of course nephew is connected to via wired ethernet and we are all wireless. We all seem to lose connections at the same time. I suspect the routers limited RAM and hard mem firmware control flags dont allow for collisions and exceed-bandwidth usage from incoming gaming. I also suspect the open access to wireless connection doesnt have anything to do with it either since the dhcp client table never shows any unknown wireless connections.

I have been looking through the event viewer to find clues of which one is : wpad.hsd1.co.comcast.net listed as the DNS in a warning under a DNS Client Event 1014. I found a paper written several years ago concerning DNS manipulation and wpad.xxxanthything generally means an undefined DNS. if you ipconfig/all you can see the dns is correct except for the wpad portion. wpad is never there in that particular way of looking at the DNS. it only shows in the event viewer.

There are 5 affected computers when this happens except nephews two towers.

My first question is can the use of Torrent clients cause this sort of thing. or is it more likely traffic from gaming kicking us off. Ive seen some of his configs in the router and he... Read more

Hey all, got a stumper that needs fresh ideas!

At work this afternoon our proxy server stopped providing internet and email access.

End users can't connect to their email because they get a POP3 error, one of the protocols that the proxy server provides. Same thing with their internet access - "proxy server is refusing connections".

The network itself is fine - I can ping every segment (every router, every hub, every switch) and the proxy server itself. The proxy can also be bypassed - allowing internet access. Not a feasible solution though.

The email services are all running. Both network cards are sending and receiving. The proxy server itself is connected to the internet. Email is being collected, run through our filters, and supposedly sent on its way. On the surface, everything seems to be fine....Yet no end user going through the proxy can get outside onto the internet or access the server's email portion.

Right now we're running a virus scan which will take hours to finish. Meanwhile, my shift ended and I went home - My manager can deal with it now.

I don't suspect it to be a virus or anything running in the background. Theres nothing fishy in the running processes and CPU and memory utilization appears normal. I was about to start powercycling network devices between the proxy and the rest of the network, but that seemed like a bad idea.

I downloaded the 1.6 and 1.7 patches to my Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

For the past month I have been playing CoD4 with no problems. But after I installed the patch, non of the servers on the server list show up. I click refresh, and it connects to the master server, but then nothing appears.

I know for certain that my firewall isn't blocking anything.

IS there a way to fix this so the servers come up? Or even a way to remove the patch so I can go back to the older version that actually worked?

I recently registered mydomain with Yahoo. I created a little web site. I decided to buy MDaemon Mail Server and host and look after my own mail. So I added my MX record to my Yahoo services so that Yhoo no longer look after any mail for me.

I opened the appropriate ports in my router and firewall to allow for this. I also got a static IP address from my ISP. But everytime I try to send a mail to a user @mydomain I get the following failed mail delivery message.
