A few days ago, I downloaded the latest version of SlimDrivers to my laptop. The problem I have is that now every time I boot up my laptop I have to go into Cntrl Pnl/Pwr Options and turn the Brightness level (at bottom of screen) all the way up. In fact, it opens at nearly 20%, so dim I can hardly read it. I've tried to find ways of saving this setting, but I can't find anything yet. Can anyone help me here?
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
A lot of times my max brightness seems a lot dimmer than usual, and can be temporarily corrected by lowering the brightness by one, which actually makes the screen brighter than before. Eventually it seems to dim on its own though and it's back to square one, which is strange because I've turned off adaptive brightness. Anyone know what's going on? It's super annoying and driving my OCD off the walls.Read other answers
For some odd reason when I unplug my HP envy m6 notebook from the power source the brightness decreases substantially despite still being on the highest brightness setting. The dim happens over the course of a couple seconds. I have fiddled and cant seem to find a way to achieve the same level of brightness while unplugged. I have already disabled adaptive brightness and made sure that battery percentage wasn't affecting the level of brightness in advanced battery settings.Any help is very much appreciated,JoeyPRead other answers
Hellos all you experts, you have helped me out a lot in recent months.
I use Windows 7 Pro, with an ASUS board about two years old, AMD 3g cpu, originaly I used the on board video, have changed to a video card.
First problem, I have macular Degeneration, require a lot of contrast to view words. Increasing the font size helps a little but I still have problems. If all text could be made to be bold that would work best. For example, I use Windows Live Mail, when I open the mail program the new messages are bold the text in all other places is very dim, of course text in windows live mail cannot be increased in size like web pages can, so that is not an option. is therea way to increase the brightness of all fonts no matter what program is displaying them. I just added a new NVIDEO card, not way to improve. I have changed the dots per inch which helps a little but messes up Expresion Web 4, most of the text gets too big so am unable to update pages. I have been in electronics for many years am retired now but it appears to me that the dim text I am having problems with is being turned on only small amount of time resulting in a dim view as apposed to on 100 % of the time. So far NVIDIA has not replied to my queston. Any help would be appreciated.
hi, sorry about the issue. For macular Degeneration try high contrast mode
Press Alt+Shift+PrtSc (printscreen)
This will enable the computer in high contrast mode. It will look like mine here .
Also if you have google chrome, this also appeared for me
Edit: also visit "Ease of Access Center" on your computer to explorer other features that may help.
Edit 2: to increase size visit "Display" and move the slider up to 125 percent.
This link also is a great tutorial to help with font size problems.

Screen brightness setting maxed but not bright. Hello everyone, this is my first post regarding technical support ever, thanks in advance for any help provided.
I have a Lenovo flex 15 laptop that is running windows 8.1.
As the title stats my screen max brightness had been lowered quite a bit and after messing around with power settings, going to the manufactures website to download another graphics driver, using Google and searching through forums I find myself here wondering what to do next.
My biggest success/temporary fix came from downloading and installing the lenovo recommended driver for windows 8.1(Intel Extreme Graphics Driver) which restored my screen it its full brightness for about 10 minutes before crushing my hoped by reverting back into darkness, of course I checked the settings again and removed/reinstalled the driver a few times and got similar results each time so I decided to seek out professional assistance if possible.
It sound like windows is installing an updated driver...
Go into device manager (find the driver properties and version) and roll back driver.
another way is to go into system properties and disable driver updates.. then remove the current driver.. Scan for changes, and old driver version should appear
So I have a new alienware 17 R4 with the 4k screen that I have had for about a week and a half and overall the screen has been great. However there is one issue that is very annoying, and that is the fact that the minimum screen brightness level (at 0%) on it is still extremely bright. It should be possible to update the firmware to allow the screen to be set at a lower backlight brightness as it is an LED backlit screen.Read other answers
I am using a Portege R930 with the 2nd dimmest brightness. I am noticing that when something bright is displayed, the overall screen brightness adjust upwards by about 5 tiny increments at the speed of 1 increment / second.
The brightness increments are not nearly as pronounced as the steps in the brightness slider, but it's definitely there. And very annoying.
I can't find any mention of this "feature" online. Is there a way to turn it off?
I don?t know if your notebook was equipped with the AMD graphic card but the issue you are taking about sounds a little bit like an future provided by AMD GPU called: AMD vari-bright.
AMD vari-bright save the computers power consumption by optimizing picture contrast on the internal LCD.
This feature can be used if the computer is running under battery mode, using the intenral LCD display only or if the ?PowerPlay? settings under battery mode is set to Maximize battery life.
The Vari-Bright feature can be enabled and disabled in CCC.
I recently bought Lenovo U-41 laptop and the brightness button from keyboard ass well as brightness button from windows charms gets stuck. My laptop contains Intel HD Graphics 5500 driver. i tried restarting the laptop also updating the driver from the device

Sometimes in between the use, the brigtness of the screen fluctuates automatically(increases and decreases). How to solve this ??
Hi, Here are a couple of things to check. 1. Right click the battery icon in the Taskbar and select Power Options. Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan and in the following window, click on Change advanced power settings. In the Advanced settings window, expand Display and then expand Enable adaptive brightness - make sure this is set to Off for both On Battery and Plugged in. Click Apply and Ok to save any setting changes. 2. Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'. From the new layout, select the Intel HD Graphics option. Click on the Power icon and in the following screen, select On Battery in the left hand pane - under the option Display Power Saving Technology, set this to Disable. Click Apply and then Ok to save any setting change. Regards, DP-KRead other 5 answers
Every time I restart my laptop (this includes sleep/wake up) the brightness level of the display is restored to an "unknown" value (always the same, though). I have tried changing all brightness level settings in all power plans, I disabled the adaptive brightness in advanced power settings - and some other values there - but to no avail. When the laptop restarts/wakes up it stays a few seconds at the desired level, then it drops back to the same value (always 49%). After this, If I manually change the brightness level, it stays only until the next restart/wake up.Read other answers

The new HP Spectre x360 15 inch 2017 I got emits an annoying high pitch noise when the brightness level is below 100%. The noise level varies according to the brightness. When the brightness is set to around 50~98, its the loudest. I now have to set the brightness level to 25% in order for me ignore the noise. The noise will completely disappear when the brightness is set to 0% or 100%. The noise appears when the laptop is on battery. The noise disappears when I plug in the power. I follow the other post's instruction to update the BIOS to the version F.04 Rev.A But that didn't help Please help. I like the laptop, but noise is too annoying to ignore.Read other answers

You can adjust the brightness of your laptop, go to "Control panel" then search of "Power Option" , there you can find the sliders to adjust the brightness of your laptop with and without cords.
I bought the new Studio laptop DS1537K20C75RM a few days ago. Everithing seemed to be fine untill 3 days ago when I was working in the evening.
The screen is really bright! So I tryed to set the brightness to the lowes level. Suddenly I found that it flickers realy hard and it is easy to nitice!
It seems like the LED is flickering on a low brightness level. I was thinking that it shouldn't!
It is really hard to work in evening in such conditions!
Setting the brightness level to the maximum removes the flickering. I was trying to set the brightness down by the video card properties. It helps but in some reason these brightness settings do not affect the cursor! It just shines anyway! It seems like a workaround but I still hope to find a normal and official solution.
I really think that such a flickering affects my eyes. It is ugly!
Is it a general problem of all LED panels? Why does nobody say about that? I heard only the "great" and "exelent" words about LEDs and thats why I actually bought this model..
I'm open to hear your thoghts! And I hope to engage the technical guys here to explain what's going on with my laptop!
Hello.I have the problem, but not only on lowest but on Low Bright LevelS at all.
It is really not good, and It cause eye strain.
I think It is faulty LCD display, because I have another Studio. The difference is clear like day and night.
I put both Studio's side by side and I compare them, and It is really huge difference not only in flicking, but in the colours too.
Till colours is not problem or not warranty problem, this easy noticable flicking must be covered under warranty.
Hey guys and girls Quick question.

does anyone know How do I Adjust the Brightness Level on my Dell inspiron 1705 notebook?
Its great realy nice and bright when its plugged in, but when she runs on her battery ( full charge) the screen realy isnt that bright. There has to be an ajustment somwhere i hope.
Any help would be great.
you should have a key with " Fn" on the keytop. The printing should be red or blue
you then will have normal keys, Ummm , maybe the "F1-9" keys that will have the same color printing, you should have brightness and contrast. You have to hold down the Fn key then tap a key with the same color. You will have to look it could be a circle half filled in the sun , what ever on the key cap. There maybe other functions like key locks , sound... etc. the key locks effect the way the KB works.
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 - 7559 core i7 with touch display about a 4 days ago. I've noticed the screen flickers on low brightness level. (below 30%).

We ordered about 20 of the Lenovo 10AY tiny desktops for our businesses and I've found a consistent problem with the Lenovo tiny computers and NEC monitors. Whenever i pair the lenovo 10AY units with our NEC monitors in our business, users have constant monitor brightness issues. I have updated to the latest version of Lenovo power manager software on several desktops and the monitors still will not stay at 100% brightness after a log off/reboot. I've also tried downloading the latest NEC monitor drivers. still no luck. Here's how it goes: - deploy new lenovo 10AY- log into workstation- NEC monitor goes to lowest brightness setting- manually set brightness back to 99%-double check lenovo power manager settings to ensure brightness is set to 100%, dynamic brightness control is disabled, timers are off ETC..-log off computer- log back into computer - 5 mins later, monitor goes to lowest brightness setting- go into monitor menu and manually change brightness back to 99%-REPEAT above steps every day on the other hand. i found a DELL monitor and a SAMSUNG branded monitor and plugged the same computers into them. No dimming occurs. Power manager settings work fine. This is specific to NEC Multicync monitors. The exact model i tested was a NEC Multisync EA244WMI LEDRead other answers
I have two computers, one which I dedicate for my kids, and one for me and the wife. Somehow the kids spend most of their time on ours.
Anyway, as a general precaution, I work under two assumptions:
1. Don't stay connected to the internet longer than you need to be.
2. Set up log-in names and restrict who has admin rights.
I have a wireless router (encrypted) and have DSL internet connection.
If I disconnect from the internet when I am done, the kids cannot connect to the internet under their XP login (non administrator). It will not allow them to change the network connections under non-admin log-in.
So which is the lesser of two evils: staying constantly connected to the internet, or giving everyone administrator privileges?

I purchased a new computer the other day and it is running Windows 10 Home. One thing that's annoying me is that when I adjust the screen brightness through Control Panel it keeps getting undone. I tried to log into one of my email accounts, and when I did, the inbox page wouldn't load, and after waiting awhile, it said 'Action Cancelled'. Then when I clicked the Inbox button, a box came up that asked 'Allow sub-frames to navigate across different domains?'...I have no idea what that means, so I just clicked on the 'x'. I assume this has something to do with Internet Options, but I haven't changed the custom settings for a few weeks. I've been able to access my mail since then...tonight is the the first time it's happened.
The only thing I can think of that I've done lately that may have changed my computer was delete a file named 'AutoRun:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Userinit.exe' with Adware Away...I think maybe I shouldn't have deleted that one, but I dunno if it has anything to do with the email problem I'm having.
I just checked my Internet Options, but I don't see 'allow sub-frames to navigate across different domains', only 'Navigate sub-frames across different domains' (I have 'prompt') and 'Access data sources across domains' (I have 'disable').
Is there anything I need to fix or be suspicous about?
Now when I check my email, I don't get the message, 'Allow sub-frames to navigate across different domains?'. I haven't changed any settings since the last time I got the message. Why is that it never asked before, asked two or three times in one night, and never asked again?Read other 1 answers
I did a clean install of windows 7 ultimate after my laptop (g60-120us) got infected with a virus.
I kept having problems with the laptop not restarting on it's own when that option is selected in the shutdown menu or after an update, so I have done numerous clean installs in trying to solve the problem.
When this problem occurs, I have to manually power down the laptop and press the power button again to restart it as it just gets hung up endlessly...I've had this problem ever since I've purchased this laptop.
It occurred first when I tried to upgrade the graphics driver from the nvidia site, and then again when installing windows updates.
The only way I've been able to solve the problem has been to do another clean install.
Because of this problem and numerous update failures, I've probably done 6 or 7 clean installs over several days to try to solve the problem, but after the updates, the problem returns.
It was suggested that I install the updates one at a time to isolate which update is doing this, but this is not a reasonable suggestion as there are over 80 individual updates not to mention sp1 when doing a clean install.
During one of the many clean installs, the laptop went into a check disk procedure where it repaired some files and attempted to recover bad sectors.
Now when I boot up, I get the smart failure message saying imminent hd failure and press f1 to continue.
I've heard you can disable the message in the bios, but I cannot... Read more

Anyway, I am wanting to adjust the Critical Battery Level in Power Options to something lower than the default 7% that HP has set. When I try to change the number, it will not save and it just magically jumps back to 7%. This means that my laptop will hibernate when the battery level reaches 7% and I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it into AC power. 7% equates to roughly 40 minutes of battery time and I find this setting way too conservative.
I have done some research on this issue and have found the following:
Some suggest that PC manufacturers will somehow lock this setting to an arbitrary minimum and the user cannot change it to anything below this minimum (it appears HP have set it at 7% in my instance). This link suggests using power.cfg and the command line to make the changes How To Lower the Critical Battery Level to 1% in Windows 7
Steps I have taken to try and resolve this:
I have tried the powercfg.exe method described in the aforementioned link to change the critical battery level to 1% and initially it appears to work. When I open up the Power Options screen, it indeed says 1%. However, when I actually test it out by using the laptop, it will still automatically hibernate at 7% battery level - it simply ignores the 1% setting.
I have also tried using powerc... Read more
That is because it is coded into Windows to not allow anything lower. Also if you drain the battery all of the way, it ends up causing the battery to have a shorter life span, and less available time on battery. They make add on batteries, that act like a lap pad.Read other 23 answers
I've this issue from day one! I bought my Toshiba Tecra R840 almost 2 years ago (Win7 Pro, i7, 8GBRAM, 512 GB SSD,...). What about the issue:
My Power Options are:
when running on battery: brightness=40%
when plugged in: brightness=100%
If I click apply, this would be ok for a while (I will say 24 hours). But then for some reason (and I do not change anything) the brightness will go to 40% no matter if I running battery or if I'm plugged! And I will need to adjust brightness again!
Problem solved for good :-)
I had AntiVirGear and ran Smitfraud file and got rid of the alerts but now a blank page send me to a 'Security Web site' at http://thesafetyfiles.com/. I can not remove this re-direct and can not put my 'home page' in the internet options page. My preferred web page does not stay, it is over written by a blank page and sends me to the above site.
I tried resetting my options on IE7 but did not fix problem.
In vista, you have many options to organize and view your folders, I like lists organized by type, but my settings never save!
P.S. I run ccleaner a lot, could it be deleting my settings?
If you are using Ccleaner's registry cleaner, it is no doubt doing all kinds of damage to your system.
Folders are complicated in Vista, as you may know.
You may also want to increase the number of folders that Vista can remember.
Someone used my notebook and the display got bigger, and blurrier. I fixed the blurriness, and I can't really change the resolution except for 800x600 and 1024x768. I thought I had more options than that. Also, when I go to Power options under control panel to changes plan settings, the slider where I could change display brightness is nowhere to be found. So when I unplug the power cord, the screen no longer dims. halp me guise!

Despite internet connection working fine with Firefox and other applications, Store would not connect to the internet. After long investigation I found out that Proxy server setting in Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings must be disabled in order to get Store working again. Is there a chance do define two different audio levels?
I guess I am not the only one listening to music with my computer - so I'd like to avoid awkward and looooud system sounds while turning up my stereo...
is there a chance to do so? I know that apple has it, not sure bout win7...
I think I understand your question. I use powered partner speakers and in my audio controls for my sound card it has output levels and then and then my music manager has it's own. First I set my sound card at around 1/3 volume +- and then go to the mm and set a volume to around 1/2-3/4 full volume. Then at my speakers I adjust the volume to a clear but loud volume. Then going back to the mm I'll use it's volume only which is controlled off my keyboard and it seems to work well. You still will run into situations where things are too load or too soft and other than in your music files there really isn't much you can do about that, just be ready to ride your volume a little.Read other 3 answers

Just been out today taking some shots of the flooding in our valley. I seem to come across a common problem which I will describe as follows:
One shot will turn out with very nice bright foreground and bright fields but the dark, moody clouds turn almost white too - ruining the shot.
The other will come out with a great, dull cloudy sky but the fields and foreground are too dark to make out details like farms etc - again ruining the shot.
I can't get no happy medium. I use a Panasonic DMC FZ-5 and although it is no digital SLR it does me well for what I can afford.
Is there anyway I can correct my shots afterwards? Is this what HDR does?
I have taken two shots at different settings, one with perfect clounds and one with perfect fields. Can I correct the photo and blend the two problems?
Hope this makes sense!

I am assuming they have to be put on a cd as I cannot see how they could run off the hard drive, is that correct?
