T410 Screen Brightness adjustment broken after Windows 10 Version 1803 update

Q: T410 Screen Brightness adjustment broken after Windows 10 Version 1803 update

Have just done the latest Windows 10 1803 update on my T410 (Intel Graphics), and the screen brightness is stuck at maximum. The Fn + Home/End keys bring up the on-screen widget, but it has no effect. Similarly the brightness slider in the settings panel has no effect. Looked at the Intel driver 8.15.10.2900 in device manager, tried the update driver button, but no updates available. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Have you tried the Vantage application. It may be a driver issue after the windows update. I would run the Vantage application to rule out the potential issue. Please keep us posted

Just last night I finally got around to updating to Windows 10 and now I am unable to adjust the brightness. Not only are the keys not working, even going to the settings and adjusting them that way does nothing. I don't really want to be blinded at night when I use my laptop, let alone have my battery drained because of it. Please help!

Hi: In order to try and help you, I would need to know the full model # or product # of your notebook. The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number. Some notebooks will not have graphics drivers that work on W10.

A:Screen Brightness on my Windows Adjustment not working

Not on the information you have given us.

Desktop or laptop ?  Make and model ?  Main component specs if it is self-built ?  Post back with this information

In the most general sense, if it is a desktop borrow another monitor, if it is a laptop connect it to an external monitor. This will at least tell you if it is a monitor/screen problem or a computer problem.

Hi, I observed a problem on my new pc with windows 7.

When I try to adjust the screen brightness, the adjustment slider is always in minimum in Control panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Option, as shown in this picture

but once I go to the "Edit Plan Settings", the slider is in maximum position, as shown in this picture

I can adjust the brightness under the "Edit Plan Settings" but not in the "Power option". Something must be wrong here, does anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks!

A:Problem on screen brightness adjustment(Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

Hmmm... That slider doesn't even show on my PC until I edit plan settings.

Is this a laptop? Is your screen dark?

If you can't adjust the slider on the Power Option window it likely isn't doing anything anyway. It might not be anything to worry about if your screen is operating normally. I know of no fix for it, but others might.

Hi,

Yesterday evening, I've shut down my computer and it started to install updates but didn't finish the installation. This morning I start my computer and noticed that my computer still had some updates to install so I tried to do it again with the HP support assistant but it stopped again before preparing action list. So I did some research about this update on the web and found some information on this link :

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-version/42d672a5-9988-4327-a5fc-b4cf9a47768a

It seems that this update has some serious issues so now I don't know what to do... Does anybody know what is going on with his new update and if I should install it and download it directly from Microsoft website?...

Thanks for your help.

Today I updated Windows 10 to version 1803. After the update, my bluetooth was not available anymore (not even listed in the device manager). I've checked the solution with the bluetooth service but that didn't solve it for me. After that, I did a fectory reset which didn't help either. The latest drivers are installed. How can I get back my bluetooth?

Windows 10 auto updated to Version 1803 on my Ideapad Yoga 13.  Since then I have no wi-fi connectivity.  I have tried the following. I have the Realtek chipset.  Realtek RTL723AU Wireless LAN 802.11a USB network driver.  Driver Version 1027.4.630.2015 Tried updating the driver but I get the message that this is the latest driver.  However, the date on this driver is from 2015 so I am suspicious. Moving to three different wireless networks results in the same problem.  All other computers and devices on this network are functioning properly. If I run Windows Network Diagnostics I eventually get the error message "Wi-fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Tried "netsh winsock reset" and then "netsh int ip reset" from Windows PowerShell running as Admin and then rebooting.  Does not fix. Tried releasing and renewing IP addresses but got errors message "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* X while it has its media disconnected" and well as Media State........Media disconnected. I've set the IP address manually and that didn't work. Any more ideas to try? Thanks!

Has anyone else run into an issue with the video drivers not working with the P50 after the Windows 10 version 1803, April Update? After the update, I've had issues with Windows 10 perpetually needing to use their Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead of the Quadro M2000M drivers.  I've tried updating the drivers from inside Device Manager:  However, while windows found and installed and updated driver, the same result happened when I rebooted. I've gone to the Nvidia website and found the most recent drivers, dated 3/27/2018:  The video drivers from the Lenovo website are dated 9/4/2017, and I've tried them nonetheless, and they did not resolve this Microsoft Basic Display Driver issue. Does anyone else have any insight on this, or are we now in wait mode for Lenovo to generate a working driver?

After forcing me to install the latest Windows 10 update 1803, my Bluetooth can't connect anymore.

Trying to rollback to previous version, problem still exists. Not even clear if it did restore, although I can see now it is version 1709 it also says version 1803 is successfully installed, so it clearly doesn't do a full restore to the previous version (in
that case my Bluetooth would still wok also!)
System restore keeps failing.
Is there any solution for this? Or need to do a full reset of windows, and force to disable windows updates?
Windows updates mainly causes trouble with WIDI, and now Bluetooth also.
No Idea where I can get help, or what is the correct forum to post this.

I purchased an HP 6735b laptop, designed for Windows Vista, without a hard drive. I purchased a hard drive and installed Windows 7 Professional. I did all of the important and critical updates from the Microsoft website and updated all drivers using Slim Drivers. Somewhere along the line the screen brightness dimmed and wouldn't allow me to adjust it.

Through the device manager, I found the display adapter, which is ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics. Went to ATI website for updated driver and found the latest for 3200, which I installed. It appeared to work, I was able to adjust the brightness back up.
However, when I shut the laptop off and start it again the screen is dimmed. The hot keys (FN + F10) will not work, but when I type in "adjust screen brightness" and go to the screen that allows you slide the bar up and down to adjust the brightness it suddenly pops into the pre-adjusted brightness setting.

I've tried to go to the AMD website and download their program that makes sure the drivers are updated, but after the program loads, you click on the button to search, I receive an message that says "Sorry, something went wrong".

Why won't it hold the setting after shutting down?

I'm considering the XPS13 with a matte screen. However, all reviews I find mention that it's not possible to adjust the brightness with the matte display. Is this still the case? If so then quite honestly, a Dell is not the right one for me as my eyes have special needs, which require custom brightness and a matte display.

What about the temperature development at the bottom? I'd be using the notebook exclusively on my lap and I would not want to carry around a heat protection mat.

Thanks a lot :)

I know my Yoga 710 is well past the warranty period and I complained to Lenovo long ago about the issue - the backlight is at full brightness all the time, it cannot be adjusted in any manner, ever, running Windows. And yes, I've successfully installed Windows 7 Professional x64 on this Yoga 710 in the recent past with 100% hardware support, even the touch screen was working and Device Manager was fully compliant, no yellow or red error notifications at all.But even under Windows 7 I had no ability to adjust the brightness and that means so much for the vaunted "8 hours of battery life." Now given this laptop is older, and the battery holds about 97% capacity from the original factory state, but because that backlight cannot be adjusted at all that means I barely get 2 hours from this thing even with the adjustments using Lenovo Vantage and the latest drivers for ALL the hardware. I really have to say I'm quite pissed at Lenovo for not resolving this because I've seen a bunch of people here and at other forums complaining about this problem with the Yoga series of laptops/convertibles.Oh, and I shut down rigtht now when I'm done with this post, then insert a USB drive with any Linux distro on it - Manjaro, Arch, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, it doesn't matter - and as soon as it boots to the desktop I can adjust the brightness without a single issue. So, I wonder why this issue is a problem for Windows and why it's never been adequately resolved. For the past  3 months I have tried every suggested solution imaginable, expending literally dozens of hours  to try to install Feature Updates to upgrade my Windows 10 Pro from v.1607 to v1803 as repeatedly required by Microsoft. The situation is now very urgent, they inform me, but I am beginning to despair. The installation process always closes with a not very helpful  "Update Failed to install".  It may be that the error could lie with Lenovo: that the  M91p was not tested and approved for compatibility with the newest MS OS software, see: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/check-this-list-to-dete... I think that there must be others with the same problem and that there might just be a usable solution available, but in view of the following I am not over-optimistic: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-version-1803-kills-our-computers/m-p/4070948#M654... Is there really no way out other than to switch to another OS because Lenovo might be at fault?  After 30-odd years of Windows, I've got used to using it!  My Lenovo present OS combination still runs fine, but now I am confronted with the equally serious problem that my Adobe Lightroom no longer functions, because it requires a higher OS version than my apparently un-updatable Windows 10 v 1607. What would be the best alternative OS? I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P50 laptop that I have been using with an external Dell Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2415Q running with a resolution of 3840x2160 @ 60HZ using DisplayPort.  Initially the laptop was running Windows 10 version 1607. Under this version of Windows 10 the external display worked properly regardless if the BIOS ?Graphics Device? setting was set to ?Hybrid  Graphics? or ?Discrete Graphics.? Unfortunately, since Windows 10 now forces updates when new versions are released I was not able to stay on this version. When Windows 10 updated itself to version 1709 using the external monitor described above stopped working. When the external monitor was plugged in (both DisplayPort and HDMI) it would briefly display an image and then go black. The Nvidia display adapter would then show as not working in the Device Manager. I spent  a significant amount of time working with Lenovo technical support uninstalling and re-installing drivers etc. Nothing worked, I was still not able to use the external monitor. After some further experimenting I found that I could get the external monitor to work if I set the BIOS ?Graphics Device? setting to ?Discrete Graphics.? It would not work with the BIOS set to ?Hybrid Graphics.? Last week Windows updated itself to version 1803 and the external display problems have returned with some additional incorrect behaviors. Hi, I have the Lenovo Ideapad 720s-14IKB(type 81BD) and today I saw there is a Windows 10, version 1803 update. When it was prepared, this message was shown -> "We found some issues. How can I fix this?

A:Windows 10, version 1803 incompatible with 720s-14ikb(type 81BD)

I have heard of some people getting beyond that error by using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create version 1803 installation media on a USB or DVD, and then running the upgrade successfully, but that said, I have also heard that Microsoft has disovered some serious issues with 1803 on laptops that have hybrid video cards (Intel HD and Nvidia discreet etc) and systems with Intel NVMe SSD's, so Microsoft may be pulling back on upgrading those systems until it can iron those problems out, so I personally would wait a bit if either apply.  Cheers,

I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1 and the next day my screen went dim and I could not adjust it neither with the keyboard +/-, nor with the onscreen graphics dashboard, nor within the power settings.

How do you fix it?

A:Windows 8.1 Update Causes Lost Brightness Settings / Screen is Dim

Sometimes Windows updates will break your graphics driver. That is because Intel and NVidia do not update their graphics drivers on the same schedule that Microsoft
updates Windows, and sometimes the updates are incompatible and cause the graphics driver to do wonky things. In my case that came in the form of lost brightness settings.

I searched these forums for a fix and I could not find one, so now that I know the answer, I am sharing it here.

How do you fix it? You have to reinstall the graphics driver. This is how I did it.

I found the graphics driver install file that was already on my computer and I ran it. It reinstalled the driver in about 5 seconds and my screen brightness functionality was restored.

Where is my graphics driver install file? On my computer it is here:

D:driversVGAIntelx649.17.10.2932\Setup.exe

Yours is probably in a different but similar location depending on how it was installed and what brand it is, etc. I have a Lenovo
P400 touchscreen laptop with an Intel HD 4000 Graphics.
