I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You maybe able to get money back for software you bought from Microsoft, if you live in New York.
A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit about certain Microsoft software acquired by consumers and businesses from and including May 18, 1994 through December 31, 2004 for use in New York. People and businesses that are covered by the settlement can get vouchers that may be redeemed for cash after buying eligible computer products. If you or your business is covered by the settlement, you can get more information, send in a claim form to get vouchers, request exclusion or object to the settlement. The Court-ordered notice and other documents at this website explain the settlement and the benefits it provides. The deadline for mailing your claim is October 18, 2006

I'm a bit confused here.

I will be writing code on several different platforms, including Windows 7 64-bit, Ubuntu 64-bit, Mac OSX Snow Leopard 32/64-bit, etc.

I know that in C++, and depending on which compiler, integrated development environment, etc., the compilation process will compile the code to the target architecture for the processor using the operating system's API/GUI to execute the program, whether in a text-based interface(console window), or GUI window(mostly used).

But that's not the confusing part ... the confusing part is the bits.

Let's say I write a program in 32-bit Windows XP professional, release a compiled executable(.exe)extension, copy the file, and test it on my Windows 7 64-bit ... Windows 7 has a 32-bit sub-system ... will it work? Or what about on 32-bit Windows 7? Given the fact that I don't really understand the concept here on how many bits it is released in(depends on the OS I am assuming), does a 32/64 bit difference make any real significant difference or error occur between different versions of Windows, whether or not the bits are the same width(e.g. Windows 98 is 32-bit), or would it depend solely on the operating system?

PS: SDL uses 32-bit code, yet it can be compiled under x64 architecture with 64-bit Windows, and 64-bit IDEs as well. Is it just dependent on the final compilation steps always?

And I am not too sure on how porting works either ... how can you just port a native Windows program to Mac, w... Read more

A:64-bit software development using 32-bit APIs? What? Help!

For the bits, I would imagine that a 32 bit will work on both 32 and 64, but a 64 bit would only work on a 64 bit machine. I haven't paid much attention to that as most machines I work with nowadays are all 64 bit machines. As for the porting, unless your using Real studio, which compiles into all three major OS's, it will only work in it's native OS unless you actually tell it how to work in other OS's. That's what I know about it so if someone else who has more experience than me can say for sure on either one, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi,

I need to edit VISTA based BCD store file using WMI APIs provided by Microsoft. My goal is to modify the given BCD file and edit osdevice and device attributes to replace WinPE.wim ramdisk file name with some given .wim file name.

Please find attached the .zip file containing the source code and BCD file.

Currently I have implemented partial code in C++ which reads BCD file and successfully loads BcdStore class object out of that. But after that I cannot get BcdObject instance for the BCD identifier. And I guess I would need BcdObject instance to set the required attribute values.

It would be grateful if someone can help me on this.

Thanks.

GeForce GTX 970 settlement website opens, Nvidia will pay graphics card owners $30

Nvidia?s paying the price for the GeForce GTX 970?s memory controversy?literally. The GTX 970 refund website is now live after Nvidia agreed to pay GTX 970 owners $30 each to settle a class action lawsuit.

The false advertising lawsuit stemmed from a pair of hardware inconsistencies that prompted a not-quite-apology from Nvidia?s CEO. The most obvious is the GeForce GTX 970?s notorious 4GB RAM allotment, which Nvidia split into a full-speed 3.5GB segment as well as a drastically slower 512MB segment without telling customers. The company also erroneously claimed the card had 64 render output units while in reality it had just 56.

Well, some of those users. You?re eligible only if you purchased a GeForce GTX 970 graphics card from Nvidia, its add-in card partners (like EVGA and Asus), or an authorized retailer between September 1, 2014 and August 24, 2016, and only in the U.S. You might also be eligible if you purchased a desktop computer with a GTX 970 from an authorized retailer in that time frame.

Don?t dilly-dally if you?re eligible. You must file a claim by November 8 if you plan on cashing in. The court is expected to approve the settlement in December.

Thanks in advance.

A:Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 process has stopped working

The 32 to 64 is driver related

You can either, downgrade the Driver on the print server to a 32bit driver
Or you can upgrade your OS to 64bit

Id suggest downgrading the print server driver you may have installed to the printer.

If its local to your machine id downgrade the Driver you have installed for this printer allso

hope that helps

Hi acestu. What you are looking for is called a "full redistributable" package. You can get it from MS here.Though the download is only 22.4mb, it will unpack to around 90mb.Version 2.0 is outdated. version 3.5, which is current and contains past versions (but much larger) is also available in a redistributable package from MS as well. You will want to uninstall any older versions before installing 3.5 though.

This is more of an annoyance than a real problem, but your views would be appreciated.

I have a USB attached drive which I use primarily for long term data storage. When tidying up files on this the other day I noticed what appears to be a dotNET patch on the drive. It seems to have got there in February. Two questions.

1. Should it be there?
2. If not then how to get rid of it safely?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, Version 6.1, Build 7600. I am trying to install and add-in for Microsoft Word 2003 (redaction add-in). When I click the installer, a dialog box states I need to install "Net framework." It asks it I would like to install it now. I click "yes" in the dialog box and I am taken to the Microsoft website to download the application. I downloaded the application, and when I click on it, nothing happens. I went back to download the entire file instead of the bootstrapper version, and the files will extract, but it stops and closes after the files are extracted.

I even "right-clicked" the file and selected "run as administrator," but the same thing happens. Can anyone provide any insight into this issue?

Thanks!

My Packard Bell updater needs .NET framework 2.0 (included in .NET framework 3.5) - Windows Features goes to Windows Update and fails. First automatically when the program requests the missing feature. Secondly when I go to Windows Control Panel Features and try to update directly.

My Windows To Go RP is otherwise fine.

Downloaded the full .Net framework 3.5 installer package (237 MB) -which stalled at 87.8% on the first attempt. 2nd attempt OK.

On trying to run the package, Windows Features kicks in asks to download the files from windows update then fails again.

7-Zip shows that the installer is nested deep in the setup installer executable! - and the Windows Update Standalone Installers found within do not work failing with access denied 0x80070005 error.

So how can the .Net framework 3.5 be installed?

A:dotnet 3.5 will not download and install

You could try installing in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

A:dotnet framework 2.0 for win7

Hi jn7 and Welcome to TSF,

.Net framework 2.0 is not supported by Windows 7. If your application demands 2.0 you're out of luck. You could run a Virtual machine (Microsoft Virtual Machine/XP Mode ( info here), VMWare etc) with Windows XP on it to run this specific application.

Most applications though require 2.0 "Or higher", so you might just be fine with the .NET Frameworks for Windows 7, depends on how the application itself is built.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

But it does not want to work on the HP DV7 laptop that I have upgraded the Windows 7 to windows 8 on and it is 64bit system. The laptop runs on a corei7 cpu with 8gb ram and 2tb hdd. I am left with no option but to go to the office tomorrow and let windows update work its magic. It seems as if the '/limitaccess' in the syntax is totally not considered because it gets to 65.8 percent and then throws out a problem about about the sources folder not properly specified. I even changed the drive letter of the DVD drive to 'd' but no luck. I have programs that depend on dotnet 2.0 and 3.0 to run and i live in a area where there is not network most of the time and to get internet i need to drive into town and use broadband connection in the town or landline network at the office. I am presently trying to figure out my best avenue of approach to designing a webpage for myself and one for my company (CA ARNG).

I have put a lot of effort and research into this and believe that using DotNet Nuke would likely be the easiest solution.

My goal is to create a Business Webpage for myself, which can be done with little trouble using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express or Dreamweaver.

The webpage I want to make for my CA ARNG company is a little more complex. It will need an intro page, login/ registration page, forum, user photo albums, etc... similar to Facebook (of course not as complex, just similar) and it will have to be accessible by command personnel as administrators.

Would DotNet Nuke make this an easier accomplishment? I am not completely up to speed with web programming. I do want to learn how to web program, but do not want to wait until I do to have an up and running application.

I am also looking at having http://www.ihostasp.net/SharedHosting/DNNCompare.asp host my site. Does anyone know if this company is solid?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

ok - this has been covered here before, for example

dot net 4 problem

but there's no solutions, and perhaps there's more wisdom around now as the OS has matured.

e.g. the programs depending on dotnet (not exactly sure which version) on my win7 ultimate laptop stopped working. i tried reinstal/repair of the various versions. reported by asoft's utility:
1.1
2.0
3.0
3.5
4.5.2
are all there.

then i tried to repair install (in-place-upgrade) of the OS. which helped a bit. now i get more descriptive error messages. but dotnet apps still don't run.

also - i have ran the dotnet repair tools that ms provides.

so - what to do next? how about manually deleting everything pertaining to dotnet from registry / its subfolder? would the system still boot?

any wisdom out there?

When I click on the "hear a sample" icon, it takes me to another page, with .mp3 at the end of the address, but I get a little exclamation point inside a yellow triangle in the bottom bar and nothing shows up on the page and I don't get to hear the sound.

When I click on the triangle to find out what the problem is, it tells me, "Error: object expected".

I don't remember having this problem before IE updated itself and changed it's format a few weeks ago. I have no problem hearing music embedded in websites, it's just the sound samples with a .mp3 address.

Any idea what the problem is?

A:Why can't I listen to MP3 samples?

What player did you use before? Now?
What version of IE are you using now?
Have you also tried Firefox or another browser?

To play/hear any .mp3 or such sound, a player, such as winamp, realplayer, etc. must be installed, and it must have permission to play such files.

May have to reinstall IE, or at the least check all of the settings.
