should I replace the motherboard on my HP Pavilion?

Q: should I replace the motherboard on my HP Pavilion?

I had a virus and took my HP to Staples for $99 virus repair. When they returned it to me the battery had been switched and was not the correct battery for my laptop. I took it back and they sold me a new power cord that I had to use all the time. I could not use the laptop without having it plugged into an outlet. No battery life at all. After a few weeks of this, the laptop would not turn on. I took it back again and was told I need a new motherboard. Should I replace the motherboard or invest in a new laptop? Would the battery issue contribute to the motherboard crash? I loved the laptop and it fit all my needs in editing pictures and making videos. I have about 20,000 pictures stored on it. It has a DS card reader and CD burning capability. It would be expensive to replace and hard to find these features in my price point currently. However, I do not want to invest the money if it is not worth the repair. I have read here that getting a new motherboard is akin to getting a new engine in your car. Has anyone had this repair and was it worth it?

Preferred Solution: should I replace the motherboard on my HP Pavilion?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

A:Re: Want to replace DVD drive with second HDD on pavilion DM...

You can install a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD in an optical bay caddy to add storage capacity.  https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/ Your Service manual: Manual See p. 45 for optical drive removal.  2 things you should know: 1. The optical drive SATA port is slower than the main hard drive SATA port. So if you put a drive in that optical bay it will run slower. Makes it kind of a waste of money to put an SSD in there that will not run at full speed.2. A drive in that bay will not be bootable and cannot be the operating system disk. The only use of it is to add a big storage type hard drive.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

HP Pavilion 4440 - 333MHz system. My computer started making a grinding noise, and when I took off the cover, I traced it to the CPU fan, which runs some, but not 100%, and is getting louder.

I recently added some RAM by removing the power supply and worming my way into the slots, but the fan replacement will be impossible from this angle.

How do I get to the motherboard on this beast? The "side" of the "box" looks almost impossible to open. Can someone tell me if there is a trick to getting into this thing?

Also, is there anything I need to be aware of when replacing the fan?

There's a weird sound from of of the fans Click to expand...

together with the no input signal message MAY indicate damaged hardware but MAY also indicate that the computer case is totally choked with dust

That is your starting point to open the case - usually but not always a side panel is removable, you want the side panel that is furthest from the I/O plate where the mouse, keyboard, Ethernet etc connects

Unless you know how to proceed examine that aspect first, just visually and when you reply with how dusty it is, I will offer you further guidance

Hi

My system is 4 years old.

The motherboard is a MSI - MS 6585
Chipset SiS 648
ATX Form Factor.
CPU - Socket 478 for P4 processors (Willimate 478 and Northwood 478)
with 400/533 MHz (100/133Mhz QDIR)

Mine is a 2.8 GHz

I have 1GB of RAM - PC2700

I cannot seem to find a replacement mobo.

MY QUESTION

This is my first time changing a mobo.

Because my CPU and chipset are as above - am I restricted to what
replacement board I buy?

In other words, do I have to locate a motherboard with the
exact specs as my old board has?

Or can I upgrade to a more modern one.

I'm really in the dark here - any help would be appriciated.

Thanks, Stephen

So I have been out of the loop on PCs and particular gaming PCs for a while. However yesterday I have found out my current PC which I built has decided to start failing on its RAM slots which is never good. It's sometimes POSTs and other does not

So my question is two phase can anyone recommend a good 775 chip set mother board that supports DDR3 RAM so I can try and get this PC working again. My current board is an Asus P5kc which is running an adapted 3.33 Xeon CPU X5470 I think

Or

A good motherboard / CPU combo that I could buy. My video card is old it's a Radeon 5850 so will might need to look for one of those but I have a good PSU and case (ATX ) and 3 HDD one of which is SSD. So looking at what is out there now.

Any advice or tips is good looking at Max budget of 500 for rebuild and about 60 for 775 motherboard ( that bios would support a Xeon)

Thanks!!

I have an HP Pavilion Elite i7-920 quad core processor; (Pegatron) Truckee motherboard UL8E with LGA 1366 socket; 6 (240 pin)DIMM slots; with PCI-e slots, a Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 dedicated graphics card; 1 Tb hard drive; a DVD R/RW (dual layer),and a Blu-ray player and Delta Electronics 460w PSU (Model# DPS-460 DB A). I had an issu with my computer trying to bootup after pugging it in the power supply light abd fans would come on then the fans would go off and the power light would go off. It would do this a couple of times before it shut off completely and I had to unplug the power cord. I was told my power supply unit was bad. I ordered a new power supply for my computer, however, Researching the power supply issue I was told I could trouble shoot the problem by disconnecting and removing everything but the Motherboard and CPU. After disconnecting everything from the MB,  I reconnected the ATX CPU 4 pin connector on the MB and pluged in the power supply. The green power supply light stayed on. I unplugged the computer and reconnected the 24 pin ATX power connector on the MB and imediately the green power supply light went off. With this result I have to believe the Motherboard bad and the root of my problem. Therefore I am looking to replace the Truckee UL8E motherboard HP part # 594415-001, however, HP does not offer a replacement MB. I need help badly ?

I have two very annoying intermittent problems with my Windows 7 PC that I built myself back in September 2014. This is my first build. I think both issues are related.
1-Unexpected reboots.
All of a sudden, my PC reboots by itself. All temps are OK. No overheating issues in Speccy. I tried to to put in good quality parts and avoid cable clutter with good cable management when I built that PC.

This build is for general computing only (Internet, email, watching movies, burning CD/DVD, listening to music, paying bills, submitting income taxes online etc...You get the picture, I'm sure).

No gaming, no video editing, nothing very demanding.

2- When I try to reboot, I get no signal to the monitor. The PSU (Seasonic M1211 bronze evo 520w) is turning, fans are turning (all of them, without exception).

Once, in an attempt to get the PC back on, I shut the PC down for about 20 minutes and the PC started normally after. Then it was OK for a while (could be a week, 2-3 weeks--it happens occasionnally) before it happens again upon rebooting.

Another time, I waited about 20 minutes but the PC would not start after. I pulled out the power cords of the monitor (Acer G235H), and that of the PSU and turned off the PSU switch in the back of PSU. Then I plugged everything back, turned the PSU switch back to on and the PC rebooted normally. Just do not know what the problem is. It is very annoying and hard to diagnose because the problem is intermittent. I che... Read more

A:Do I need to replace the motherboard ?

How long did you run Memtest for? One pass or multiple passes? Have you checked Event Viewer for errors? Are your drivers up to date? I had the same problem recently, but it had been somewhat unstable since it was built, but problem got worse over time. I tested the memory and it passed, but I kept getting BSOD with memory error references. I ended up changing the memory and so far its been running smooth, not one single BSOD or errors in the Event Viewer. I guess my memory chip just wasn't playing nice with the MoBo.

As for some of your questions. If you purchase the same exact board, in theory, it should boot up as normal with no need to do anything else.

Hello I have emptied a full glass of water into my laptop. I've send it to repair and they concluded that the motherboard is dead, and the price for a new motherboard is more than the price I payed for the laptop from the beginning. My last option is to replace the motherboard with a used one myself, and so I will. Now to the question: Can I use an other motherbord than EXACTLY the model in my laptop? Gentlemen,I have a HP Pavilion a1777c with 2 gigs of RAM and an Intel dual core processor running on Vista Premium. If it makes any difference to the answer of my question, I'll crank it up and get the particulars on the processor.I use this computer only as a PVR to record HD broadcast television off of the tv tuner card that it came with (Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600) and to play the recordings back either on a 23 inch Samsung HD monitor or a 32 inch HDTV.The video card that it came with (GeForce 7500LE) has stopped working and I need some opinions on whether I can get by using another video card that I have sitting around. The spare card in question is a GeForce G100 with 512MB of DDR2 RAM. I think that this card was provided originally for Acer desktops (has Acer sticker on the back). It provides ports for VGA, DVI and HDMI.I don't thinks there's any problem with it fitting as both cards are PCI-E x 16. My main concern is the power. As far as I know, the HP has all the same parts it shipped with, including a Bestec ATX-250-12z DR PSU rated at 250 watts. The recommended minimum system power for the G100 is 300 watts, so not good. But, most of the published recommendations I've seen for the 7500LE -- the card that HP shipped with a computer having only a 250 watt PSU -- also say 300 watts minimum system power.I do not play games on this machine or do video editing. My only intent is to display recorded HD TV broadcasts on the devices previously mentioned. Can I get away with us... Read more

A:Can you replace the graphics card from hp pavilion 17e073ed

Hi: There are no removable, replaceable, upgradable graphics 'cards' in your notebook. The graphics is all part of the motherboard and in order to upgrade the graphics, you would have to see if there is a motherboard listed in the maintenance and service guide for your notebook that has better graphics. Replacing the motherboard would be a costly and labor intensive project.

I replaced the old hard drived w a new WD 80G. Now the old HP will not see the A, C or D drives when I give it power. Any thoughts?

I also put the old drive back in and still no results.

Thoughts?

Depends on the question, and I cannot work out what that is.

Are you implying that the PC now cannot see any drives? Does it boot?

Re-read your post, see if it actually tells anything about what your problem is, perhaps its just me...

What are the steps to replace the keyboard on a HP Pavilion dv6000 series notebook? Cannot find any videos on this subject.

A:how do I replace the keyboard on HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 5-23 to 5-29. Remove the battery and there are screws in there that allow removal of the button strip plastic piece above the keyboard after you flip it back over. Once that is off it is pretty self-explanatory and the pictures show the process.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi All, I recently damaged my keyboard by spilling a load of coffee on my laptop. Thankfully the motherboard is fine. However I am trying to replace the keyboard and have no idea how to do it. It is not a pop out one like I am used to. Here is a picture of the back: I have taken out all the screws but there are these black rubber things holding it all in. Do any of you know how I can get to the keyboard or is there an instruction video you can point me to? Thanks,Hass
