Automatically data sent received whenevr I connect to Broadband WAN

Q: Automatically data sent received whenevr I connect to Broadband WAN

i have a severe problem. whenever i use connect option and get connected to internet, data starts to downloaded automatically. i fear some programmes are running in the background unnoticedd. how can i stop this so that i can save my banwidh and hence money?

Preferred Solution: Automatically data sent received whenevr I connect to Broadband WAN

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome Bhasphys to the windows 7 forums.

What you can do is to see what programs are loading when you boot. you can run msconfig in the run window as administrator and there are options to see what is starting when you boot.

Many programs like your Anti-Virus and such check for updates when you boot to make sure that you have the latest version and updates.

There are other programs, most free that will let you see what programs are starting up when you boot your computer.

I use a program called startupinspector to check and uncheck programs that startup when I boot.

Search on startupinspector with google.

I have Outlook 2010. Until recently, the email address I use the most would
automatically download any emails received every so often. Lately, it doesn't do that.

I went to File-->Options-->Advanced & clicked on Send/Receive. There I made sure that
my main email address was part of on of the groups listed. Then I set that group to
check & download emails every 15 minutes. However, it still is not doing that . How do
I fix this? Thank you.

Try disabling IPv6 support in network and sharing. its often the cause of random disconnects

We're trying to get this networked PC to work. It's on a Windows 2000, and the internet was working a few days ago, and now it's not. I have a feeling the night time guy did something to it but won't admit it. I see it had viruses on the 15th, but now it's clean. It says its connected, speed 10.0 Mbps, but no data is going back and forth.
Any ideas? If you need more info let me know.

Hi everyone,

The problem is as follows:

If I install a program (e.g. AVG antivirus) and it tries to look up/update something on the internet, it tries to connect and so brings up the dial up connection window.

I am on a wireless network which is connected to a broadband connection. However, I cannot seem to register the broadband connection on this computer so that e.g. AVG recognises it. I've tried setting up a broadband connection through internet options>connections but it asks for proxy server details that I do not know

Can anyone help please?!

A:Downloading files, automatically goes to dial up and not broadband

You should be able to simply use the Internet Connection Wizard.

Select Connect to the Internet / Set up my connection manually / Connect using a broadband connection that is always on / Finish

If the PC is virus and malware free, then you should post in the Windows XP board. This is software/OS related and not a hardware issue.

So recently I've noticed that whenever I go on certain pages, asos.com as an example. Google Chrome always says no data received, if I refresh it a couple of times then usually it works. I ended finding out the problem was the proxy server. Whenever I disable the use of the proxy server, every website loads absolutely fine, for about 2 minutes until the proxy just resets itself. Whenever I disable it, it just re enables itself after a really short period of time. I've seen in places that this is some sort of virus but I have no clue. I use a windows 8.1 computer, so what I'm really asking is, how can I keep the proxy server disabled opposed to it just re enabling itself every 2 minutes? Thanks.

A:Proxy Problem "No Data Received" (Google Chrome and any other web browser)

You can try this tool ... http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows-repair-all-in-one/ .
It will repair the networking system, and should allow you to surf normally.
If the proxy server re-enables again, then you most likely have a virus. Run your AV scans. Let us know.

Hey there.

Iv been getting a Google chrome web page error ever since I got Windows 7

The error Message is:

No data received

Unable to load the web page because the server sent no data.

Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.

Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

I have to to press F5 quite a few times before the page loads.

I never had this problem with Windows XP using Chrome.

I am Plugged directly into my router as I was before.

The only difference I can think of is I'm using Kaspersky now instead of Norton.

It doesn't just seem to be 1 web page, it seems to do it on a few different ones.

Thanks in advance.

See Title. No pattern has developed when the crashes happen. When idle, Kernel Data Inpage error occurs and clock interrupt not received on secondary processor occurs all the time. Happens very frequently. More than once or twice a day. I will be attaching some DMP files but connection keeps getting reset right now.

I RMA'd or replaced pretty much everything in my build including: CPU, Motherboard, PSU.

Ran Memtest on 1 stick of RAM minimum of 8 times. Repeated for all 4 sticks of ram.

Updated BIOS

Tried without NAV.

Tried running with 2 sticks of ram at a time, then replaced the ram with the other 2 sticks.

Reinstalled windows on different HDDs.

Replaced Thermal paste on heatsink (went with Arctic Silver 5)
^This is when the Kernel Data Inpage Error showed its face.

Ran Chkdsk. Fine.

Gonna Run memtest86 for about 24 hours starting now.

!!!The MEMORY.DMP file is too big to upload. its like 535MB any suggestions? Do We need this?

I'm having similar problems. Since June our usage has increased absolutely hugely, for no apparent reason. Last night we used half a gyg, just sending a few emails. We had a phone line fault at the end of June, which lasted for 5 days, and since then our usage has been absolutely huge, and I don't understand why. We have a 5 gyb a month contract, which has always been ample until now, and all we do is surf and email. And yet in July we used 7.35 gyg, even though we were away for 2 weeks, and my DH was in hospital for the last week of the month. In August we used a massive 13.35 gyg, and in September we have used over 9 gybs. Could this be anything to do with the phone line fault? Is it possible that BT =have done something?

A:broadband data usage increased recently

i have moved your post to a thread of its own - less confusion when answering

I would talk to BT and explain the situation

how many devices do you have on the connection ?

i would install bitmeterII on all the PCs to monitor usage

this will measure the usage at each PC - not the network - just the pc its installed on - so you need to add to all pcs to see the usage - assuming your not using an xbox or ps3 connected to the interent for movies etc

but it sounds like a fault with the BT usage if you have been away for 2 weeks and this is not your normal usage

Hi I wonder if someone can help me with the following:

Over the last week or so I have noticed excessive data being uploaded from my PC to the Internet. I'm running McAfee and have no report of any Virusses or Malware from that. When I have no webpages open or anything I can see connecting to the web I still see Upload activity of approx 400Mb per hour. I have a data limit of only 7.5 Gb so I get through it that way pretty fast :-(

Tried to Download the DDS tool from all three links in the Sticky but Techforum seem to have moved it and the other two links are infected with the Artemis Trojan

I downloaded and ran GMER but it reports that there was no modification to my system so no log subsequently.

I can browse some pages, but don't have full use of all pages like my CMSA admin, can log into my hosting using FTP, but can't access directories, Skype doesn't connect.

Even stranger is it all works for a few seconds, even connecting Skype, but then stops again.

I've had mobile broadband for nearly a year, and since Monday 13th Sept I've been noticing issues with my data usage.

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop with Windows 7 on Sept 1st, and had no problems at first with the mobile broadband. However, on Monday 13th I noticed massive spikes in the data usage. After browsing the internet for around an hour I decided to check my usage randomly, and it was at 350mb!

Since then, there's times when I don't even have my browser open and in the space of 5 minutes it will reach 150mb of usage. There's also times when it works absolutely perfectly for hours on end (including today, where it was working fine up until around an hour ago!)

I phoned the mobile broadband company twice last week, the first time the person told me that it was a computer issue and to go to an IT repair place. I decided to ask someone I know who is more computer savvy than I am if they could figure out what is causing it. So after sending him screencaps of Windows task manager processes/applications/network he can't see anything that could be doing it. He advised me to do a full antivirus scan, and full malwarebytes and ad aware scans and they've all come up clean.

The second time I phoned the broadband company, they told me that there were some wrong settings, and that they've been changed now but if I have any more problems to ring customer care again. I started having the issues again but I didn't ring t... Read more

Here in the UK. Signed up with Wanadoo. Installed modem they provide. Can't get connected. Have spoken to their helpline about 10 times. Gone through all procedures of disconnecting other extensions and having modem go through splitter from main BT box. Used different microfilter and different cables. Reinstalled software. Wanadoo have gone to BT who have done various tests on the line and say the line is ok. The USB light on the modem stays green (which shows that the computer connects to it ok) adsl light flashes which means it's not connected to broadband.

So I'm stuck. They say they will send a new modem which could take 10 days. It was always my intention to connect with their modem but then change to a linksys router modem. Have now bought one and tried installing this but this doesn't work either. it may be though that I haven't got all the settings right. I get green lights on lan and ethernet and red on dsl internet.

Any ideas?

Hi TSG's

I have a problem with my second computer (laptop) in the house. My setup looks like this:
Main computer has a wired router/modem. Connected to that modem is a wireless router. Second computer hard wired to router. Other users in the house connect wirelessly.

Second computer wouldnt connect to internet via wired broadband connection. I thought the problem was with the router so I reset it. Now I think about ir, it probably wasnt the wireless router because the main computer connection was fine all along.

Second computer has wireless too, so I changed to wireless instead of the hard wired broadband and here I am.

Keep getting error 651 when I try to connect via the wired broadband connection. I run windows diagnostics and windows cant work out what the problem is - it just cant connect.

Any ideas? You have always been wonderful - here's another one

I have recently moved home and started a broadband account with Telstra(Adsl2plus). I purchased an N300 netgear modem and set it up.
When the startup wizard/netgear genie comes up it says there is a connection, but when I put in the password and username , the dsl and internet lights go out and it cannot connect.
The dsl and internet lights seem to slowly come back on and drop out randomly indicating some kind of weak connection. I have spent over 3 hours on the phone to Telstra, who claim there is nothing wrong on their end of the line. I have spent over an hour on the phone to netgear, and can confirm my modem is set up correctly. I have also had a Telstra technician here to check the phone line in the wall which he claims is fine and he thinks my modem is to fault but my modem is brand new and I lent it to a friend for a week and he had no trouble with it whatsoever.
please, I cannot figure out where the problem is, neither can anyone else.
Thank you in advance

Hello, it might help if you shared what troubleshooting actions have already been taken, also you noted that the DSL modem was loaned to a friend who was able to use it, is that friend also with Telstra?

I recently signed up for Sky Broadband Connect and got connected on Friday even thought the connection wasn't meant to be up til Monday, during the day I only get around 2MB and last night (after midnight) I was receiving speeds of upto 7MB but tonight I have connected and it keeps saying that there is no internet access and at times the router has said that there was no internet connection but even when it says there is my laptop and ps3 say there isnt. Will this probably sort itself out by Monday when it was originally due to be connected or is there something I am missing, possibly to do with BT having contol over the broadband package?

Hi Guys,Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic412332.html ~ OBMy issue started when the data usage on my internet plan tripled about 2 months ago when there was no change to my actual usage... I actually have a very low usage. After much trouble shooting with my ISP they advised I probably have a or many visus' causing the issue. I had Norton 360 which said my computer was clean. I then downloaded Stopzilla which showed a GASF trojan and some packers and spyware. After reading a few dubious reviews about Stopzilla I tried Malwarebytes which found and removed a Hiloti trojan. I then used SUPERantispyware which found a broken file extension and these trojans (Gen-IExplorer[Fake] and Gen-PEC)which were all removed. After having much trouble running rKill (I was getting a "Win32 application error" message), I finally got it to run. When it does I get a Microsoft error message saying that the following programs have stopped working - Iexplorer.exe and PEV.exe. Some googling has lead me to believe they may be associated with virus'.Malwarebytes and SAS both show clear results now but my data usage is still way above what it should be... like way above. I then ran uniblue spyeraser, which came up with a lot of bad tracking cookies and a infection called "keylogger.chatlogger" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NM\0000\capabilities", (which doesn't even exist and the infection remain at every scan after start up even though uniblue removes or quans it everytime)and 3 other "Malware (General Components)". I also removed the registry keys of the 3 malware components via regedit and the 3 removed "malware component" did not return. At the immediate next startup after the first uniblue and avast scan, my firefox browser data like all my passwords, bookmarks, applications and msn accounts, and some other profile data dissappeared from my side of computer. Which meant i had to reenter my passwords and profiles to reaccess them so I changed all my pass as well. Then i used avira which found "Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen [trojan]' detected in file 'C:\WINDOWS\Temp\_avast4_\unp146156595.tmp.""Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen [trojan]' detected in file 'C:\WINDOWS\Temp\_... I've been getting an intermittent broadband connection quite regularly now since December, I'm with BT Broadband and I just cant face another phone call to there technical help they keep telling me there is nothing wrong after going through the same checks again and again.

I use Gotomypc which flashes up every time there is a connection problem.

Usually I can live with the problem but this last week it has become much worse and the downtime is lasting up to 10 minutes and occurring often. It seems to happen late afternoons & evenings.

I have since the problem began changed from a standard BT Router to a Wireless one, have changed microfilter, checked the phone connection etc etc.

Now i dont know what else to try, this evening the problem is on and off every few minutes please can anyone offer some advise ?

Thanks in advance.

My laptop(running on vista)will connect to the router but not get an internet connection saying that it's only a local connection. checked the settings and saw no relevant solutions. Other devices connect to Sky broadband fine with no problems. connects to other wireless internet connections fine with no problems.

A:Can't connect to Sky broadband via laptop

Local vs limited usually is seen when your IP address begins with 169.x.x.x

and that's the clue that DHP did not respond.

on win/7 or 8
WF.msc brings up the firewall

look for Networking - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP-In)
must be enabled

On my friens HP compaq nc8000
I recently re-installed it, but when I'm at the desktop it only shows MSN and Safetly remove hardware. No Internet... I can't connect to my broadband. How can I find it cause I've been looking in control panel and trying to do it with a wire that didn't work either.

A:How to connect to a wireless broadband?

Welcome to TSF!

Did you re-install the drivers?
Check in Device Manager, see if there are any devices with exclamation points or question marks.
Click Start | Run (or press WinKey+R), type devmgmt.msc, press Enter

If you don't have a Drivers CD that came with the laptop, you can get them online.
Here's the Drivers and Software page for the NC8000

Get the Chipset (under Operating System - Enhancements and QFEs) and the Ethernet driver (under Driver - Network, The Broadcom NetXtreme), put them on a CD or flash drive to coopy to the laptop so ypou can install them (Chipset first).
Once the ethernet is working, you should be able to get online with a wired connection to get any other drivers you need.

I have a friend who has a Windows XP desktop computer using Virgin broadband and a W98 laptop using Yahoo broadband both connecting via a Belkin FSD7633/4 wireless router. He maintains that it used to work although I did not think it was possible to connect to two different ISP's through the same router. However, all of a sudden, neither computer will connect to the internet. When trying to connect, they both show a message saying "Connecting" but nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong please? Brian

Here's the deal. I use a laptop for work and only connect to the internet to transfer data (I don't use it to surf). OUt of the blue, the computer will not connect by way of broadband, but will by telephone. The same wire I use to connect my home computer connects fine, so I know it is not the ISP.

I did a search of this problem on google and see that sometimes the IP address needs to be renewed. When I go to start->run->ipconfig it takes me to a DOS screen. However, when I type ipconfig /renew (or release) I am told ipconfig /renew (or release) are an unrecognizable command. I think this is the problem.

I desperately need to access the net by the morning so any help is greatly appreciated. I do not have phone line access tonight, so broadband connection is my only option.

The laptop has been no problem to this point. I use it all the time to connect to the internet by broadband.

I can also tell you I've seen some "SASSER" bug on it occassionally but have always been unable to delete it.

I have been registered with Wanadoo broadband since 17th August, and am still unable to connect to broadband. The installation process has been initiated several times, without success. The ADSL light is constantly flashing. I have been in touch with the Wanadoo tecnical support, and have set up the filters and process as instructed. The BT line is supposed to have a "possible" fault, though this has not officialy been confirmed. Any help would be appreciated.

do you get a dial tone when you plug in a telephone to the jack? if not it could be an issue with the phoneline

also how long is the phone cord going from the modem into the phone jack? most dsl providers don't like their phone cords to be longer than 3 feet but if it's under 6 feet it should work just fine if not try a shorter phone cord

how many phone jacks do you have in the house? try connecting the modem into each phone jack you have. just the modem, the phone cord, and the power supply. if it doesn't synch up on any jack that you have available let the tech support know. also check the filters by disconnecting any telephones, satelites, alarms, whatever. basically disconnect everything except the modem and see if you get sync. if so try putting the filters on one at a time and see if you get sync or not. if you do keep that filter because we know it works. if not throw the filter away. this should give you some steps to try before calling tech support and having to repeat what you've already done. also keep a log of what you did to troubleshoot. that way if you say you power cycled it they don't say "ok power cycle now".

Everything is working fine for my roommates, who are all plugged in to the same modem.

G'day crybllrd, give this a run for me...
Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 1 minute. At the same time disconnect ethernet cable as well.
Reconnect everything.
Restart computer.
If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.
If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:cmd
Click OK (in Vista and 7, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).
In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"
Restart computer.
If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista and 7), type in:cmd
Click OK (in Vista and 7, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).
At Command Prompt, type in:netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:netsh winsock reset catalog

How do I connect to a LAN at a motel?
I spent a couple days at a motel that had free broadband LAN while my wife was hospitalized.
I only am only familiar with dial-up at home. The motel had no instructions and the clerk had no knowlege of how to make it work.
I was able to connect (I think) since the double monitor symbol came up in the task-bar lower right corner of screen, but I was unable to make Internet explorer respond.
When I clicked the IE icon it attempted to dial the modem, when I clicked cancel it responded "PAGE NOT AVAILABLE OFFLINE"

Question-how to get Internet Explorer to respond without trying to dial?

PC=Notebook (laptop) with XP PRO/ IE6/LAN and wiireless card (LAN connection is identified)

A:connect to public broadband

In Internet Options -> Properties -> Connections, you should have it set to: Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

You shouldn't need to do anything besides physically plug-in to get connected provided your network card is set to request IP addresses automatically, which it should be by default.

Once you're connected, you should verify you have an IP address. Click Start -> Run and type "cmd" (no quotes) then click OK. This will open a command-prompt window. Type "ipconfig" (no quotes) and press enter. This should return the IP address assigned to your network card.

The IP address will be different depending on the hotel, etc. The one thing it should *not* say is 169.254.x.x. If your IP address begins 169.254 then this is a bogus IP address that Windows is filling in because it can't get an address from anywhere else. This could be for a number of reasons.

Sometimes it may help to request a new address, which you can do at the command-prompt by typing "ipconfig /release" (no quotes). Wait until it says the IP address was released, then type "ipconfig /renew" (no quotes).

My son disabled the notification.
Question is can the connection through the broad band network be blocked by microsoft??

Thank you for reading this any advice would be appreciated.

A:Unable To Connect To Server On Broadband

Apparently you do not have a legit version of Windows, or at least Microsoft does not think it is legit. Perhaps you should speak to them about this, or purchase a legit version of Windows.

I'm trying to import an mbn profile with netsh for a mobile broadband connection and have it auto-connect.
The modem is build in to the tablet and registers in windows as a dial-up(wwan), not as a wlan as some USB modems does.
In Windows 7 this was posible with the AutoConnectOnInternet element but this has been deprecated in Windows 8.1.
Windows Dev Center mentions WcmSetProperty but this is in connection with C++ which I have no experions in.

I will start off with how I am setup. I have a 2 story house. On the first floor there is a router, modem, and all the computers hooked up to it, 1st and second. My room is on the second floor. I have just got a new computer but had no room in the downstairs router. So what we did, was we bought a new router for the upstairs and connected a wire from the downstairs router to the upstairs one. We did that and got 2 extra internet wires and connected both computers I have. I have had internet for about a month by doing this. But now something happened and I don't get internet. My new computer is a vista and my old computer is a xp. The xp gets internet and the vista keeps asking for a broadband connection with a username and password to connect. I don't know how to fix it, I have tried everything I know. I am stuck and I need help. Thanks in advance,
