L380 YOGA fingerprint - almost never works

Q: L380 YOGA fingerprint - almost never works

9 out of 10 times (maybe more) the fingerprint scan DOES NOT WORK. WIth the added bonus that Windows 10 does not allow to supress user login, so annoying PIN comes mandatory. Im very dissapointed but mostly strangled since my mobile phone, motog (lenovo) 2016 mid-low range of 1/10 price of PC, recognizes my fingerprints almost ALWAYS. the only way to improve the issue on the lenovo PC is to re-scan the finger(s),which last maybe couple of days. why on earth a 1KE PC needs re-scan every two days while a 100E mobile can last adjusted for a year? only lenovo engineers know

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hallo all,I have a brand new Thinkpad L380 Yoga, and strangely the Fingerprint scanner did not work after waking up from sleep mode. I have tried to uninstall the fingerprint driver, try to update it from Lenovo Vantage, and i come to no avail.Strangely, it also doesn;t work in the Windows Hello dialog, where you have to input a new fingerprint (This also happens after waking up from sleep mode though) Please help me. THis is not a deal breaker, but annoys me; n/b: The fingerprint is listed in device manager as synaptics-sgx

Hi all,Recently, one of my friends bought a ThinkPad L380 laptop. I would say the internal speaker has improved. The bass goes deeper and treble is more extended compared to the older model
To tweak the sound:1. Right-click the photo below, save as Desktop. You may try both to see which EQ you prefer.

2. Go to Start > All Apps (All Programs) > Dolby > Dolby Audio.

3. Drag it onto the Dolby Atmos application.Do take note that if you were to connect your external speaker/headphone to the headphone jack, change the EQ to others, or off. As this EQ preset is only optimized for L380, L380 Yoga, S2 and S2 Yoga Speakers, not optimized for your external speaker/headphone.Hope you enjoy this tweaks!

I got my L380 about 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it. Only just yesterday did the fingerprint scanner stop working. I've tried cleaned it and updated the driver. What it does is when I open the laptop and don't touch the fingerprint scanner, it says it doesn't recognize the fingerprint even though I haven't put my finger down. Anyone having a similar problem or have a solution?  Thanks!

The fingerprint reader on my ThinkPad L380 suddendly stopped working. I tryed resetting the saved prints in Windows Hello but when trying to register them again the procedure stops at the second step: for the first step of the registration when I touch the sensor it is recognised, but for the second step when I touch it nothing happens. The driver is updated and the system does not register any problem. Is it possible that the fingerprint reader is physically broken?

A:Fingerprint reader stopped working (ThinkPad L380)

The circuitry might have failed.  I would first try to reset everything:

1) Turn off fingerprint option in windows hello
2) Boot into BIOS and erase fingerprints (under security menu)
3) Uninstall the fingerprint reader under the device manager
4)  Reboot and let it find new hardware

You would then need to re-register the fingerprints

If that doesn't work, I would assume a hardware problem

Hello, I've had my L380 for a bit more than a month, and its finger print reader just started going crazy. I think it is always trying to read a fingerprint, even though there is no finger. When I turn the laptop on the first thing on the screen is "Couldn't read the finger print" even though I only touch the power button, and isn't responsive to my finger after and I have to log in with my password. When I try to register a new fingerprint, without even touching the reader it says "great touch sensor again" as if I had touched it, bu wont react to my input at all. Do anybody have a workaround? I'd hate to have to send it back, as I went with the L series and not the E just for the fingerprint login for ease....

I have a new Lenovo Thinkpad L380 (Windows 10 Pro), that is less than a month old. Recently however, the fingerprint sensor has stopped functioning. I had already registered my fingerprint and it doesn't seem to work to unlock the laptop anymore. Trying to reregister my fingerprint in the settings opens up the registration screen ("Touch the fingerprint sensor"), then proceeds to ("Great, touch finger again") and then simply stays there. I have tried to clean the sensor as well as update the drivers (from the device manager) and it hasn't helped. I don't believe it to be a hardware issue as the laptop is new. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Vivek

My Lenovo Yoga 730-13IWL , a few days  after updating to Windows 10 Pro Build 1903 my laptop suddenly won't recognize my fingerprint. So i have to sign in to windows hello using my PIN/Password. I've checked the device manager and apparently my fingerprint/biometric device driver aren't updated. So I try updating the driver through the windows troubleshooter driver update and the Biometric Driver installed (Goodix Fingerprint SGX). The windows said it installed succesfully. But when I want to Set Up new Fingerprint after removing my existing fingerprint on SIGN-IN Option in Windows Settings, after inputing PIN for credential prompt, the windows just asking me to place my finger on the scanner but nothing happen. The driver/hardware seems working but it failed to recognize when my finger are placed on it. Please help to resolve my Problem. Sincerely,Tio

Something is weird with the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works instantly and recognizes my fingerprint right away, no matter which part of the finger I use. The problem is that it's *constantly* forgetting my finger. It'll work fine, then I'll close my laptop and come back in a little bit and it doesn't work at all...fails three times and have to use my PIN. Once that happens it doesn't work again, at all, until I re-enroll my fingerprint at which time it works perfectly again for some time. I end up having to re-enroll once or twice a day. Lenovo Vantage pulled in a new version of the driver package today but it didn't help...the issue just happened again. Anyone know what the cause might be?

Hi there, I have an L380 Yoga with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I was wondering if I could upgrade only the RAM to 32 GB by plugging in a RAM card to the other available RAM slot. Would I also need to upgrade the SSD? One more thing, if I am going to upgrade the RAM, does it need to be of the same brand? Would it make a difference, if I use a different brand? Thanks in advance.

First thing to try is skipping the fingerprint and PIN logins and use the credentials for your Microsoft account. That should get you in, then you can reset the fingerprint and PIN Windows Hello functions.

Hey! Does anyone has any idea where I can buy a new Pen for the ThinkPad L380 Yoga? Most of the Pens available are made for a diffrent model and are therefore too long to fit in the pen silo of my TP L380 Yoga. The Pen that it came with it is ~123mmThe Pens available on the internet are 219mm (so they would stick out the silo and probably break) Also: is there a way to change the mine or do I have to buy a new Pen everytime? Kind regardsQ

Hello, A few weeks ago I had issues with my ThinkPad and, under warranty, was exchanged for a new ThinkPad L380 Yoga (honestly, I miss my last ThinkPad). My main problem with the L380 Yoga is the Pen Pro. I am a student and use Microsoft Word and OneNote daily, I never had any problems with the pen on my last laptop. However, the bottom (eraser) button on the side of the pen does not work consistently. It'll work for a short period of time until it stops randomly; the only way to fix this is to completely restart my computer. This is very inconvenient for me as I am rarely in a position where I can afford to lose a few minutes restarting my computer that often. The top (lasso) button on the side works perfectly fine and never has any issues. I tried switching the functionalities and the eraser worked on the top, but then the lasso stopped working with the bottom button. Has anyone else had a problem with this/know a solution? I want to get this figured out before my warranty expires. Every forum I have looked at online claims that Lenovo knows about this problem but is failing to come up with a solution to help customers. I've invested way too much money in laptops from this company to have such a hard time finding a solution to such a seemingly fixable problem! Thanks,Frustrated Customer

Dear community,  I am thinking about getting a Thinkpad L380 Yoga since I need a more portable device than my T570. I did some research and found some issues I would like to ask real users of the notebook about. It would be great if some of you may take some time to answer my questions.  Display:  My T570 got a non-glaring screen, so usually the brightness is set to the lowest (or second lowest) value. Is this also possible with the L380 or is a higher brightness necessary under normal indoor conditions? Durability:  One reviewer stated that the build quality of the L380 is not on par with other Thinkpads. Is that true? Have you experienced damages caused by daily use? Active Pen Most reviews only mentioned very basic information on the Active Pen. As I am going to use it very often, I would like to know if there are some issues with it like jitters? If there is anything else you dislike about the L380 it would be great to know. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hello Lenovo & community, I wanted to petition for the L380 Yoga to please be accepted into the LVFS[1], so that GNU/Linux users can upgrade device firmware using their OS distribution of choice. I can see Lenovo has already embraced the LVFS project, having submitted firmware for many dozens of Think products; even very similar models to the L380 Yoga are supported[2]! Thank you very much for this gesture. Please consider also enabling this machine for use with the service, to be able to upgrade things like hardware initialization + BIOS/UEFI, Wacom touch firmware, IR camera firmware, and the ThinkPad USB-C dock firmware, etc. I can see the NVMe SSD that comes with the L380 Yoga is already supported! Once again, thank you for your efforts, and for contributing to the libre and open-source community. Kind regards,Jean [1] https://fwupd.org[2] https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist

Hi, I just revieved my first lenovo product and have started trying to learn it. We're trying to deploy a Lenovo L380 Yoga (docking connected over USB) with SCCM/MDT.The reason for the docking is because this laptop doesn't have an onboard NIC. The driver package has been loaded into SCCM and we're able to launch LiteTouch.https://support.lenovo.com/us/nl/downloads/ds502364But once LiteTouch is launched, the lights on the NIC go out and we get the message:"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. Check Physical connection".We're sure that the physical connection to the server is okay because we're able to download the LiteTouch file from it, also we see a DHCP entry for the laptop. I'm not sure if this is a USB driver issue, as unplugging the docking from the USB and reconnecting it makes the NIC lights turn on for a brief period of time. Other USB devices seem to work just fine E.G: mouse, keyboard, ... Is there a special driver for the USB docking to work in LiteTouch?

Yes, it's a terrible buy. There are many other problems with the model besides the flickering of the screen, the pen problem, the battery problem, the trackpoint problem, some have connection issues in certain circumstances, bleeding of white from the edges of the screen, and the list goes on. You can definitely not associate this with quality. The keyboard is nice though. Rest is a pos.
