I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Whenever I open up a command prompt for any reason, this is the message I get:
"An Extended Memory Manager is already installed.
XMS Driver Not Installed."
Is there a specific reason this message? I'm not really sure if it has created any problems, but it seems like it has prevented some programs from running. Is this something that will cause problems? Is there something I can do to correct the problem?

I think my computer has been hit with a virus.  I have an old Dell computer running Windows XP.  I cannot get into Windows in regular or safe mode and am getting a cmd.exe message that says " C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\139d2e78.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command.

I have tried running a malwarebytes scan from  Hiren's Boot CD.  I have also taken the hard drive out and put it into another computer and run malwarebytes and Kaspersky 2013.  Both of these programs picked up a few trojans, but still left with unusable system.  I am close to reformatting the hard drive and starting over. I have backed up using Macrium reflect from Hiren's Boot CD.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am running WindowsXp. My system gave me corrupt /sytem/config file message. I was unable to re-start in safe-mode, safe-mode with command prompt or Last Good Known Condtion. I boot the system with WindowsXp bootable media and selected Repair that lead me to command prompt. I came here to rescue my data from c:\ drive before formating it. But as I want to access any of the files/folder, I get this error message:
c:>cd Docume~1
Access Denied !

Please help. Remember that there are more than one user accounts on the system.

A:Access Denied ! message in command prompt

Your access through the Recovery mode will be very limited. Even if you enable access in Group Policy (needs to be done from the booted OS ahead of time), you will still find that you can't access very much.

What were you planning to do if you did get access? There are not too many options in the RC.

You would be best off making a bootable version of XP: UBCD4Win.

Or at least try the Ultimate Boot CD and access your files that way.

Hi there! My pc was running fine yesterday. I got a new 3d graphics card for games and followed the instructions of powering off, taking out the old graphics card, putting in the new one, booting up and all would be fine. It would recognize the new card and I would then be asked to install the drivers. I tried booting back up and only got beeps followed by an error message stating to run chkdsk, but I can't get to any command prompt. I can't even run Windows in safe mode. I get back to the same blue screen.

Is there anything I can do before I take it to someone who will charge me $100 just to look at it?

Thanks!

A:PC won't boot - message to run chkdsk but can't get to a command prompt

Hi joyfulscrapper, welcome to TSF..

are you certain that your motherboard is able to support the graphics card?

How many beeps do you hear when you switch on your machine and are they short beeps or long ones?

If you switch back to your previous card, does your machine boot up ok then?

I've scanned my computer with Spybot search and destroy and NIS to see if I have any virus's or spyware etc. nothing comes up.Below is the DSS.txt file, attached is the attach file.I've removed any instances of my login name and replaced it with "[login name]" the weird thing is the 599.exe process running the in background and the very very odd thing is the folder which has random numbers and then my full name "C:\Program Files\1218164934" as processes. I cleaned out my temp folder to stop the 599.exe (nero was not the problem as I uninstalled it and still received the screen). I edited the start menu items to take out 599.exe and a file called winupdate.exe which was also put there along with another file similar to it that had been put in my prefetch folder with a .pf extension. I deleted the [my full name] folder and misc. files in there by booting into linux. Problem is that i have been running a 2nd monitor and about a month ago the laptop screen went crazy and stopped working but the monitor kept working so i just went along with that. I saw the infinite loop tutorial so i tried it and got to the final stages and it said that the action could bot be performed because of an i/o error.
I searched around and saw that people have used chkdisk And sfc scannow. I tried these but kep geting the same messge about the i/o error.

All of my work is on this HDD so could someone please reccomend a way to fix this or save my HDD from having all of its contents deleted

I have had trouble attempting to install Windows 8 on a computer I recently purchased. It had Ubuntu installed on it, and when I tried to install Windows 8, it would give me the error message "could not create new partition or locate existing one". I followed a few different solutions, but in the end ended up running Darik's Boot and Nuke to get rid of Ubuntu and any other OS's installed on the computer, which is the way I preferred it anyways.

So now when I am attempting to install Wiindows 8, I can choose one of the disk partitions successfully, and the installation process begins with the screen showing the percentage progress for each portion of the installation, but after a few minutes, with the percentage staying at 0 for the first step, an error message pops up with the error number 0x8004245F. I'm attempting to use the diskpart method of preparing the partition, but now I am also having an issue with Diskpart where after I type it into the command line to run it, it simply shows the copyright information and does not allow anymore input.

Hey guys,
I've been told that it is possible to edit the text of Windows error messages but I've run into some difficulty in trying to do so. I am fairly good at using Resource Hacker and I figured that if I could just find the system file that stores the error messages that I would be able to proceed in editing their text.

So my questions are...
Is it possible to use Resource Hacker to edit Windows error messages?
If so, what is the system file I need to target?
And Finally, If this is not possible with Resource Hacker then how would I go about doing it?

Just to clarify my reason for doing this in case it might help you guys to solve my problem..
My wife drives me crazy every time an error message comes up while she's on the computer. I just want to give her a "message of warmth" each time one comes up and help her solve the problem she has encountered. I also just think it would be a pretty cool thing to learn in case I ever need to help someone in the future.

Thanks so much for the help, it's greatly appreciated.

A:Editing Windows error message text

Not sure which error messages your wife is getting.
But I believe most of these messages are in Explorer.exe (The main Windows File)

Your resource edit program should be able to view/edit (make a backup - only because it loads Windows !)

Hello, I've been having this strange issue with my computer that recently started yesterday. Usually, I can solve these problems myself, but I can't seem to find out what exactly is wrong with my computer. I'm using Windows Vista.

Okay, so here's the problem: Whenever I surf on Firefox I get redirected to an ad page that is totally oblivious to the one I clicked on. Then, I've been constantly receiving a Microsoft Windows message saying, "TCP/IP Ping Command has stopped working" and it gives me the selection of checking online for a solution or closing it. Neither of the options do absolutely anything other than closing it. It'll then reappear in the next five minute interval. At first I thought maybe this could be a Rootkit, so I ran TDSSkiller.exe and came up with nothing. I checked my processes to make sure that there weren't any suspicious processes, coming up with nothing. I used a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware quick scan and came up with nothing. I noticed that my CPU usage was having abnormal spikes to 90-100% even when I wasn't doing anything. So, any idea of what this possibly is?

There are several webpages that I am trying to load, unfortunately IE responds with Cant Find Server and automatically forwards me to a Search Engine. The Webpage I'm trying to load is the Washington State Secretary of State webpage. I have been to the webpage before several times. Yet, about 2 weeks ago I tried to load the webpage to check up on something important and I started to get a Cant Find Server-Error Message. Now I know this is only my computer, because i have accessed the webpage from other computers, including my Cellphone. Any suggestions to solve this problem???

About 2 weeks ago I encountered a very nasty virus.  It was the "FBI" virus. The one that says your computer has been locked.  I did a search online while in safe mode and found the topic on one of your pages.  Downloaded the program to fix it and then ran the Secunia PSI program.  Got rid of the virus, Thank You so much.

But since then, when I start my computer and it boots up I get an alert that "Windows cannot find 'C:\users\Sherry\AppData\Local\Temp\cs
.exe"

Tells me to make sure I typed the name correctly and try again.  I didn't type anything in and have no clue how to check.  I have run the Malware program and occasionally come up with malicious files.  But it doesn't get rid of this issue.

Can you help?

Thanx!

hi there.
i have a dell laptop with windows vista on it. i have a history of internet connection problems with it. i brought it with me on a trip to visit my brother and parents (both live in different cities). my computer will wirelessly access the internet at home, but at both my brother's and my parents homes, i got 'can't find the server' error messages when i tried to get online.

now, i checked my internet connections. everything is supposedly working. i even tried resetting my brother's router when i was at his place, and still, the same error message on both firefox and internet explorer. i was able to get online with my ipod touch at both locations, so i know my passwords/wep keys are correct.

i tried disabling my firewall, (at someone's suggestion) and still nothing. i checked to make sure that firefox and internet explorer were not on the 'banned' list (with the help of my brother). they were not banned. i'm not sure what to do.

i even tried doing a system restore, and that didn't help either. i've checked other threads, and they seem to have gone unsolved. i am hoping that i will be lucky and someone may have an answer for me, as i'd like to use my itunes gift card that i got for christmas!

please note that i am somewhat of a (but not a complete) techno-tard, so easy to follow step-by-steps would be appreciated.

Windows 7 will not start and I have been through the various repair and system restore processes with no success. Before doing a recovery, I have some files I would like to retrieve from the MyDocuments folder (pics, etc) but cannot find the directory from the command prompt. I have already copied some documents that were not in that folder, but I haven't been able to find the MyDocuments directory tree.

Thanks

A:How can I find Windows 7 MyDocuments from command prompt?

Hi Kirby and welcome to Seven Forums. My Documents is a junction point (a super link) and you won't see it in command prompt. You need to navigate to C:\users\{your name}\Documents which is the same disk location.

Hello,

I have basic knowledge of the command terminal, in that I only know how to navigate through directories. Currently I am trying to execute the following:

java ?jar MRTBatch.jar ?d input_directory ?p parameter_directory\input_parameter_file ?o parameter_file_directory

I have already navigated to the correct directory to make use of the MRTBatch.jar tool, however the problem arises with my user inputs, which are of the form "C:\Users\My Name\Rest of path". I keep getting the error:

ERROR: Could not find directory "C:\Users\My Name".

When navigating directories earlier I always had to go find the file I wanted, copy its path location, paste it into the command terminal, and then erase the "C:\" portion (so it became cd\Users\My Name\Rest of path) for it to work. So when I got this error I have tried multiple edits for it to recognize the paths. Could it be as simple as switching the direction of the slashes? I would have thought the complete path name would always be best. Is it because I'm already burrowed down so far that it cant seem to recognize any file further back?

Here are the directions I am following, pg 40 titles "Automated Batch Processing": https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/sites/default/files/public/mrt41_usermanual_032811.pdf
My goal is to mosaic a bunch of satellite imagery using the MODIS Reprojection Tool (MRT).

Thank you for the help!

A:Command Prompt Error: "Cannot find directory "C:\Users\..."

Web site URLs use the forward slash / while path statements in the OS use the backslash \.

Your problem just may be that it needs to start from the root of the drive or C:\. If it starts at the standard Command Prompt it will already be looking below/inside C:\Users\your name\.

Hello everyone

Recently a problem has arisen with my system.

Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.
Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'

Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.

I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

I'm not sure what might have made this problem arise, but I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Error message - Windows Cannot Find "(null)"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Guys,
Just joined this forum, but I admit I am not very technically minded, but I hope someone can help.

I recently had a virus which erased my desktop. And have now got it back. I had IE and Firefox installed but they started conflicting with each other.
I read elsewhere that using System Restore will help, I tried it but now when I try to click on any link it says - Windows Cannot Find (Null). Make sure you typed the name correctly, etc.
I have just deleted Firefox.

Hope someone can be of help,
Many thanks in advance.

A:IE6 Error message - Windows cannot find ('null')

You should scan your computer for the viruses and malwares.

You can follow these troubleshooting steps:

1. Scan your computer by using any updated antivirus program.
2. Try to install and download the "Antimalwarebytes" (freely available)
3. Try to update "Antimalwarebytes".
4. Scan your computer using the "Antimalwarebytes".
5. Follow the same procedure for "Superantispyware" as you done for "Antimalwarebytes".
6. Delete all the internet temproray files.
