Q: HP Wave has no sound. See Sound Levels Moving but no sound f...

Hello - I have a Wave PC Model 600-a014. It had been used briefly as a demo machine at a convention. I am about to use it for field demo work and do i hit f9 and had it do a factory reset. I had personally not used this specific pc at this point. After a long factory reset, it reboot with normal setup screens and it said there were updates available and did i want to do that. I selected yes and it went and updated the pc. After the update was done, i was looking at the settings and i noticed there was no sound coming from the Wave speakers. I checked the usual control panels and Bang & Olufsen software and I could not make sound happen. I plugged in some headphones to the from port of the Wave PC and no sound at all either. I have the PC hooked up via HDMI to the HP monitor and that is the only peripheral that is connected. I have uninstalled the realtek driver and reinstalled it and no difference. Any other sugggestions out there would be much appreciated ! Tony

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Recently forced to replace fried Abit BF6 with new mobo(Tyan Trinity 400-S1854) and have this minor issue with wave sounds.

The sound card is Creative16...(old but good enough) it is an ISA card...not sharing an IRQ. The only other card is AGP GeForce2MX400.

The popping sounds(sounds like a spark) do not happen with midi sounds or CD audio.

A:Intermittent popping sound after wave sound event.

try turning down the master volume in the mixer, adjust the individual devices up a little or just turn the speaker volume up. Sometimes overdriving the master volume will cause pops, etc.

After running NT Registry Optimizer (NTRegOp) and rebooting, I find I can no longer hear any mp3/wave medias on my XP SP2. Whereas, playing a movie with AC3 is fine. I guess this would mean the hardware are OK.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the appropriate codecs but that doesn't seem to work. Codec Sniper shows all my codecs all registered properly. Neither does Device Manager show anything wrong in any components.

Would somebody out there be kind enough to help me solve this issue please? It would really be a pain if I had to do a reformat and reinstall of XP again.

Cheers all,

Problem is as stated in the thread; I downloaded, untar'd and set the theme up today. I know it's specifically the "Close Window" sound since it's unique from the others. I'm referring to the following actions in particular (there may be more things I could do to proc it, but I haven't checked yet)...
Opening a Program
Opening a Folder in Windows Explorer
Starting a new Windows Explorer Session
Closing a Window (expected function)
Closing a Windows Explorer Session (expected function)
Those not followed by (expected function) have a different sound assigned to them, although the Close Window sound plays anyways. Not always immediately after the action is performed, either - there can be anywhere from a 1 to 15 second delay before the .wav plays.

The sounds are located in C:\Windows\Media\AltimitOS\ with AltimitOS being a custom folder I copied in. I originally untar'd everything to the desktop, then created and moved everything into the folder and tried running the theme from there. I've made sure all file paths are leading to the \Media\AltimitOS folder.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers,
-Kalts.

A:Custom Sound Scheme: Close Window Sound Plays Instead of Chosen Sound

As this is a 3rd party app, it sounds like it is buggy. Does the Windows schemes work OK? If so, that puts it back to the buggy app.

I would go back to the app developer for assistance.

I have good sound with other speakers on this desktop, but I wanted to save some workspace on my desk, so I recently got a new AX510 sound bar and attached it onto a Dell 2208WFP monitor, one of the monitors listed for that soundbar.  It powers up via the AC port built in to the monitor, just like it should, and I've correctly connected the audio cable on the soundbar audio output on my desktop.  But there's no sound at all.  I did get a static "pop" once... but no other sound.
So I am trying to figure out whether the sound bar is defective, or if this is possibly a Windows 10 issue, as I've read a few odd posts on the internet about people suddenly finding that previously working sound bars don't work in Windows 10.... or some other incompatibility (my desktop is a Studio XPS 8100, Windows 10).  I realize all of my equipment is not the latest, but it's all been in great working condition and the one new addition is the sound bar... I did plug my old speakers back in again, and they still work just fine.
I was thinking I can test the sound bar by connecting it to another computer at work (tomorrow) that's running Windows 7.  to determine if it's a Windows 10 issue -- or if it just doesn't work at all -- but would that be a definitive test it's not a Dell computer?  Any other ways to diagnose the problem and pin it down?  I can conceivably still return the sound bar if I determine it's defect... Hi people!

When I install latest Realtek drivers I'm getting 50% lowest sound than I had before I've formatted my OS, also the same version of drivers and OS.
I'm running W7 x64 and Asus P5Q - PRO mb.
When I uninstall them and install "default Windows7 Realtek HD drivers" sound is great and high like before.

How can I solve this problem because I tried every to combine with every settings in Realtek HD audio manager but with no success?

A:W7 x64 - poor sound levels

Windows volume panel > Playback devices > Speaker > Properties > Levels > Realtek HD Audio Output
What does your output level look like?
Is it at the maximum?

Realtek also has Loudness Equalization which will boost the volume quite a bit.

I just got done building a new computer using this MSI motherboard (Newegg.com - MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard) and the sound levels on this thing are simply garbage. So, from another post here on the SevenForums, someone mentioned that I should try an additional Sound Card, so I pulled out my Creative Sound Blaster into the PCI slot and my OUTBOUND audio was fixed, but my INBOUND audio is still complete garbage. My microphone levels in Sony Vegas and Audacity are a complete joke. So, I went with another option of trying out my buddies Creative Sound Blaster Live External Sound Card, and again, the INBOUND microphone levels are complete garbage. Now, you mean to tell me that all of these 3 ways on inputting audio are all terrible at this, or am I missing something??

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, please let me know. Maybe one of these cards might be bad, but I highly doubt it at this point. I clearly don't think that the cards are bad, but really something in the system settings.

I'm fed up twiddling my speaker volume control knob up and down when surfing around video sites, because some vids are too loud, and some are not loud enough.
Is there any software (or any trick) to make the sound volume self-adjust to always come out of the speakers at the same comfortable level?
For example you could set a default level (say '6' on a scale of 1 to 10) so that the software recognises whether a vid is too soft or too loud, and automatically adjusts it up or down to 6.

Ok, I need a little help here. Lately, I have noticed that my sound levels in my Volume Mixer keep lowering to the lowest level.
I have an ASUS Rampage II Extreme MOBO that came with a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB PCI-E Sound card.

The problem is, when I'm in a game or anything else, my "Applications" in the Volume Mixer most of them all go to the bottom. I can't get them to stay up top=loud. I have gone to the Control Panel>>Sound>>Communications and changed that to do nothing. (It basically says, windows can automatically adjust the volume of different sounds when you are using your PC to place or receive telephone calls.)

I am using a Logitech G930 and their software. I do believe it is some sort of software issue that is taking control of my audio, but not sure what.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Does anyone have a fix?

It bothers me cause when I am in a game, the game sound goes way down automatically and in the game settings, it is on High. I use Teamspeak a lot and have checked those settings and eveything seems to be fine.

A:Sound Levels Constantly Changing on their own

Hi,

I had this problem once : in my case I didn't reliase that my webcam also had a microphone on it, and I spent days trying to adjust the microphone on the headset, only to realise the mic on the webcam had somehow become active.

Any chance you have a similar issue?

I have recently changed from an Imperial GL Motherboard to an ASUS P4GV-LA Motherboard due to bad capacitors. I am running Windows XP and I have the Realtek AC97 Audio Drivers. When I had the old motherboard my Front Panel Audio Connector (Orange label with picture of speaker) was providing me full sound. Since I have changed boards, I still hear the sound but only if I turn the volume up to the max. I have checked all the settings and I have done the automatic driver updates. I have checked that onboard sound is enabled on the bios. The only difference I can see is that the new board has a ten pin section to hook up to instead of before when I had the three pin with snap in. Does this new board require something additional?

Does it mean that I have the correct driver if I am hearing sound - even if it is low?

What steps can I take to return to full sound?

Note: I have no sound card installed before or currently.

A:Low Sound Levels - Totally Stumped!

It sounds like your audio is set up correctly.

Are your speakers powered?

It's entirely possible that your new Asus mobo simply has a lower audio output than your old motherboard. I have an old mobo (Super Socket 7) with an onboard sound chip that puts out much more power than my newer mobos. It will actually drive a pair of unpowered speakers. None of the new ones will.

I'm using a headset as an external mic with Dragon Naturally Speaking and Eclipse voice recognition software. Ever since getting this new laptop with Windows 7, I've tried adjusting the recording volume level of the external mic. I move it down to 50 or so, and the software works much better, but for some reason, I can't set it to stay at that level.

Here are the two places I've tried doing this:

Under Control Panel, I click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound, then click on Recording, then on External Mic Property Levels. I set it to 50 and click OK. There is an "Apply" button, but it does not allow me to click it.

Then, I go under Control Panel, Realtek HD Audio Manager, then External Mic, then Recording Volume, and I move it to 50. I click OK because, again, the "Apply" button doesn't work for some reason.

I need BOTH of these levels down to 50 for my software to work properly, but for some reason and at some random time, the levels inevitably return back to 100.

I am not very computer savvy, obviously, but I've tried finding answers elsewhere and am at my wit's end. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

I would look for level controls in the two pieces of software you mention.
It's very possible they have default "Input" (or Mic) levels and are set at full volume.

Also right clicking on the Microsoft speaker icon in the taskbar will give you a different view of the Realtek controls. I find it clearer than the Realtek control panel.

Hello,

Firstly, I want to thank whomever will assist me in advance of their aid. The work provided on this website is nothing short of phenomenal and I truly appreciate all the help I have received in the past.

I am a Chrome and Firefox browser user, and unfortunately I appear to be having some Iexplorer issues. I keep getting random pop-ups and my wave volume keeps being reset to mute. I don't use IE except to log on to my offices web based remote desktop protocol. I even have ActiveX controls set to prompt me when they are being used. I just recently updated my Adobe Flash, perhaps that could contribute to the issue.

I have already run AVG Scans, Super-Anti Spyware scans, and even a Malware Antibytes scan. Nothing changed after removing harmful programs on my system.

Please find enclosed below a copy of my hijackthis log. If you have any questions please ask, otherwise I will be awaiting instruction or advice on what steps I should take next.

Thank you,

~Dan

HiI'm running on Windows XP and Google Chrome.I had no idea how it happened but recently i got this problem where the wave volume keeps muting by itself every now and then. Besides that, there are sound ads which keep appearing together with IE pop ups. Even when gaming, it keeps returning to the desktop page by itself.I've read up on the forum and i realised i'm not the only one with this problem. I tried following the steps given by the replies but it was rather confusing and i encountered some problems along the way. For instance, the scan using GMER.exe was taking hours and it became non-responsive suddenly. So i was wondering if there is any one familiar with solving this problem that is willing to help me.Thank you for your time.

Hi. ^^ Well, idk if you guys remember me from the Vista Forums but... I recently got a new Toshiba Laptop that has Windows 7 64-bit.
As far as I know it is running well, just with a little bit of problems that I [hopefuly] got them fixed.
*The biggest thing I have is the sound card not reading the "Wave Out" AKA the 'Stereo Mix". >__< I really use it, especially for Skype calls but I can't seem to fix this in any way (Toshiba has only the Win7 version).
I have the 'Conexant SmartAudio HD Version 4.119.0.60.

Some Info I gather from DxDiag (NOTE: for some reason it's showing the wrong driver version. O_o):

Code:
Driver Name: CHDRT64.sys
Driver Version: 4.119.0000.0000 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
Date and Size: 3/31/2010 01:50:16, 724536 bytes
Other Files:
Driver Provider: Conexant
Please, I want to fix this problem ASAP (though It may not be a problem, just something that Microsoft did for Win7) >_<
^^

A:~Sound card... NOT reading Wave Out AKA Stereo Mix >_<

It's not really a "Microsoft" problem. It's the Toshiba or sound vendor's drivers. If you don't have the System Mixer you will have to try and find a different driver. Have you checked Toshiba for an update?

However, have you checked the Recording panel, in the Sound Panel to see if it's there but not enabled? Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally Sound. In the Recording Tab section if the System Mixer (or Wave Out) is not displayed, RIGHT click in an empty space in that panel and then click to show disabled devices and disconnected devices. If the function now appears on the Recording list you can select it to be the default Recording device.

Hello. Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download Dr.Web CureIt and save it to your desktop. Hi all, I went through all my possibilities on this one and I think I know what's going on, but don't know how to change it.
I heard a wav file sound (full volume playing through my sound card) and thought it was on start up. I did everything to quiet that sound in windows but it didn't help.
I reaslize now by experimentation, that it plays right before loading windows.
I thought perhaps there is some thing in the bios settings that could be playing this sound, but couldn't find anything to tweak.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

I'm using Vista Home Edition and Microsoft Word 2007. I used to be able to click on INsert, then Object and choose Wave Sound. Up would pop up my sound recorder .. no problem. Now Wave Sound has disappeared from the Objects list. I checked other MS programs such as PPT and Excel. Same thing! I can open up Sound Recorder on its own though under Start >> Accessories.

A:Wave Sound not listed in Insert Ojbect

I believe they removed that option in the 2007 series of office. Try this instead.

Start up Sound Recorder (Start >> Accessories like you said). Record your sound clip and save it to your documents folder.

Then in Word 2007, Go to Insert, Then Object Then Click on the "Create From File" tab and insert the file you saved in the previous step

Hello All,

I have an older Dell Dimension 8400. I guess my sound card is the c-media CMI8738/C3DX. I must have done something, because the c-media mixer will slide the wave slidebar down on it's own. I slide it up, and a couple of minutes later the sound will blank out, and I open the mixer and the wave bar is slid all the way down. I tried updated drivers, new programs to control the sound, and nothing works. I tried clicking the "add volume control to taskbar" in the control panel>sound device box, and it says it is not installed, add it in the add/remove option, but it is not there. Please help! I will be playing a game or music, and in a minute or two, no sound, it is off! It is driving my nuts. Thank you in advance for any help!

Reguards,

Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5559 i7 6th gen Laptop on 1st November, I faced the distorting and crackling issue in the beginning but i checked the solutions here and switched the realtek driver to the windows default driver and it was working well until today. I have tested my dell speakers on various test videos available online and the general speaker configure option of windows, laptops right speaker is working good but left produces a crackling noise at high pitch sound. Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.
Regards
Viren Kumar Gupta

A:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

Hi, So awhile ago i realized the sound on my laptop wasn't working and thought it was my speakers but then realized "Wave" under volume control keeps getting muted. When I unmute it, there's constant clicking noise and random ie pop ups. after about 20 seconds, the wave gets muted again. i also noticed that under windows task manager ---> processes, IEXPLORER.exe is running as SYSTEM. The anti-virus programs i used did not catch any viruses. I did try system restoring my computer but the problem is still there. Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is? Thanks in advance!! Good evening. Please download MBRCheck.exe by a_d_13 from here and save it to your Desktop. Double click the file to begin the scan. A Command Window will open and after the scan has completed you will be prompted to select further action - please exit in the stated manner. A text file called MBRCheck_date/time.txt can be found on the Desktop. I'd like you to post the contents in your next reply.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Download Preformat.zip from here and save it to your Desktop. You will need to extract the file.Right click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...In the 'Extraction Wizard' window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again. In the final window, click on FinishYou should now see a folder with a .vbs file in it. Double click Preformat.vbs to run it and a text file called Preformat.txt should be created in the same folder - either that or you'll get an error message. Please copy and paste the contents of the text file into your next reply and then you can delete both of the folders and their contents.

I'm having the same issue that I noticed several other people are having, but I didn't see their problem go away. Below is the highjackthis log. So far I ran in regular/safe mode ComboFix, ad-aware by lavasoft, AVG antivirus I'm having no luck getting rid of this issue. If I login right away the IE windows are in the background and are open by SYSTEM, 2 minutes later the sound volume goes to 0. If i wait a few minutes then login I see the popups already open on the screen since SYSTEM opens them and I'm guessing it's running something as a service in the background that opens iexplore.exe. My only solution in dealing with this issue right now is running a script I created that automatically kills the iexplore.exe process as soon as it starts. I use firefox so killing ie isn't an issue for me. I appreciate any help I can get with this.

Sound levels of main driver reset on (closing the lid?,) sleep, or restart.
Main driver: Soundmax as installed via Windows Update
Overlayed driver: SRS Audio Sandbox

Main output: Line Out
"Default" levels: 89,19,20 for Main,Left,Right
Preferred levels: 20,20,20 for Main,Left,Right

(Left,Right settings available in additional settings for balance per channel)
(19,20 Left,Right was once chosen to compensate for slightly broken headphone)
At preferred levels, using the volume buttons to alter levels processed with SRS Audio Sandbox provide a tolerable maximum level. 20 is good, 89 is way to loud.

Clearly, something causes the settings to reset to the wrong "Default levels".
