Preferred Solution: windows live messenger Webcam error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, so I have a problem with Windows Live Messenger. For some reason I'm not able to view other people's webcams. It just says: "Webcam. Sponsored by..." on a white background, although the connection is established. I didn't have any problems like these with older versions of MSN.
Any idea why this is and how to fix it?

By the way, I'm using Windows XP if that's of any help.

Thank you.

The other night my webcam worked fine using Live Messenger. Last night and today it's not working right. Windows Live Messenger detects it but the image won't show. At this very moment it's doing something different, I can see myself but my friend can't see me. It didn't do that last night or earlier, it just showed an image of a webcam with a red X.

Any clue how to fix this, and is it common?

What do you mean "in a small size"
If youre reffering to the fact that you see only a litte screen of your self, dont worry, the other guy will see a bigger image of you. If you want to enlarge your own image, it should be somewhere in the settings (in ubuntu now, cant check)

I am unable to use my webcams in Windows live Messenger 2009.
My camera is an integrated dell inspiron 1420 cam, and i have no problem using it with other programs such as DELL webcam manager, yahoo messenger, google voice and video, etc. but when i start video-calling someone in WLM it shows an image of a camera with a red X on it, as if it is not detected. It is noteworthy that when i go to Audio and Video Setup my webcam is detected and shows normally and the problem only occurs when i video-call someone.

Help is very much appreciated,

p.s. I have a windows vista home basic 32-bit, and my browser is google chrome. my antivirus is McAfee but i don't use Site advisor feature (its not compatible with google chrome yet). WLM is also "allowed" in McAfee firewall.

I see you posted this question in 2 different forums. I had the same problem that lasted for months. Hi i posted about this before and I didn't get any help or advice. I have a Logitech Quickcam Express/go. It works fine taking pictures and video record and also with other programs like Skype. It was working fine with windows live messenger as well but now it doesn't! It seems like i have a problem with my windows live messenger but i am not sure! Because none of my contacts can put their cam on either! When ever I try to connect it cuts off and my contacts tell me they just see a white screen! I checked my audio and video settings and it seems fine. I also tried re installing my webcam to my computer as well as changing the plug in! Please help me on this. Thanks

Hey all,

After upgrading last week, to Build 14.0.8064.206, everytime I try to start a Video Call with someone either they can't see me or themselves, or I can't see me or them. Essentially at least one of the views will not be working and is replaced by the 'no webcam' icon. Signing out & back in again doesn't solve the problem, rather it changes the view that doesn't work (i.e. at first I can't see the cam view of me on my comp. Then, after signing out and in, I can now see me, but the other person can't). I hope that makes some sort of sense.

Also, the 'View my webcam option is greyed out, but from running Audio & Video Setup on the main WLM window, the cam seems to be functioning correctly.

I'm not too sure what further info you would like me to give, but am more than happy to produce anything if required. I am running XP MCE 2005 (SP3) and using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam if that helps any.

Thanks in advance

I've just bought a Samsung R580 and the built-in webcam is working fine on skype and everything else except for msn messenger. When I connect on video chat with someone, I can see myself but they can't see me and I can not see them, checked my firewall settings- using Mcafee and windows live messenger has full access. I also tried it with my Logitech Quickcam, downloaded softwares too... same thing, I can see myself - webcam is working but people can't see me and I can't see them. Funny thing is it worked once briefly.

And on another chat platform, video is connecting fine but unable to connect to server. It occasionally connects briefly then logs off in 2 minutes.

Please could anyone give me some technical advice or opinion.

My 14yr old daughter has a Dell Inspirion 4100 laptop (4 years old) running Windows ME with 1GB RAM P-III machine.

The unit has a single USB port with a 4 USB externally powered hub driving the following:
USB mouse, Modem to a BT Broadband line, the new webcam.

I installled a new "Creative Webcam Live" unit yesterday for her birthday. She uses MSN messenger on the internet using the broadband line and the webcam is intended to provide streamed live video images when chatting to her friends.

The installation did have problems and claimed some files could not be located but I search the c drive for the files required, found them all in c:\windows\system and navigated the installation wizard to them when asked using "browse" and the installation seemed to run to successful completion.

The application software provided titled "Webcam Manage Center" seems to run okay, starts the webcam and we can see high quality real time streamed images in the video window on the screen. So all seems well.

However, when she starts up the internet connection and signs into MSN Messenger with the live video option enabled, the session starts okay with good streamed video working too but quickly (after around 30 secs) the video streaming freezes and the image remains static and does not reset itself. MSN messenger continues without problem and she can type/chat to her friends with the video image ther... Read more

I had Windows Live Messenger and I had installed the new beta version that came out 9.0 and I tested it out but I wasn't pleased with some of the functions it had so I tried unistalling it but for some reason it does not show in my Add//Remove Program so I went through my registry and hit Ctrl+F and I deleted everything that had Windows Live name because I wanted to install an older version of Windows Live (8.5) and it would not let me until I unistalled the newest. Anyways after I finished, it would let me now install the "Windows Live Installer" (the first process to install the messenger) and when I installed it I clicked on the link where it says "Start Messenger" which it would not do anything so I installed a really older version of messenger (5.1) and had a friend send me the 8.5 version, messenger.exe. So when I clicked it, it gave me an error that I did not have the msncore.dll so I downloaded the dll and sent it to the system folder and now when I click on the exe it throws me this error that I can't seem to find a solution. If anyone could help me out with it:

msnmsgr.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point [email protected]@@[email protected]@[email protected]@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library MSNcore.dll

PS I tried installing 9.0 beta again and it won't let me either. Im currently on crappy 5.1.

Found this:It?s not that difficult to remove the pesky little pile-on of a software: MSN Messenger!Let us keep it simple. First, make sure you have exited MSN messenger and unsinstalled any MSN Messenger related entry from Control Panel (START ? > CONTROL PANEL ? > ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS).Then, START ? > RUN the following command:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.RemoveDone. That should remove it. If it doesn?t, check some more round-about and cumbersome ways from Microsoft that involve the Windows registry.http://support.microsoft.com/?id=302089

Hello there,

I had a problem signing in into WLM. Every time I sign in into the current version of Windows Live Messenger, I stay in for a few seconds and then there is an error message after which Windows Live Messenger shuts down. I use XP.
The error message is as follows:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The error details are the following:

AppName: wlcomm.exe
ModName: kernel32.dll
AppVer: 14.0.8098.930
Modver: 5.1.2600.5781
offset: 00009eda

I tried to look up the file kernel32.dll and it seems to be legitimate. Is this a spyware/malware problem or is it something else?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

A few months back, I downloaded WLM9 and could sign in for a few minutes, but then I'd receive a "platform error" message. I tried solving the problem using the "official website" but couldn't, and so went back to using 8.5.

I downloaded it again a while later, thinking the problem may have been due to it being in the beta stages. I couldn't sign in. Then this weekend I had to upgrade, and the error is still there. It says that the "service is temporarily unavailable" but doesn't even attempt to sign in. The error code is 800702e4.

I've searched online and found no useful information, other than it's happened to other people who tried to solve the "platform error" issue! The time/date is correct, I've clicked "allow" on my firewall (I use Norton 360 - apparently this may have been causing problems in the first place), I've even tried disabling the anti-virus/firewall... the only thing that seemed to help a bit was something to do with "msconfig" I think - I disabled something like "____ UAC" and it attempted to sign in (I didn't bother letting it finish - assumed it was matterless if it worked in this way since I needed to enable the "UAC" thing again). When I did enable it again, the error was back.

I also have problems getting onto my inbox. I have to uncheck the "Check for server certificate revocation" button on Internet Explore... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 running windows xp home service pack 2, 768 megs of ram and an integrated video card. A couple of days ago I started getting an error message when I tried to sign to windows live messenger, service is temporarily unavailble please try again later. I clicked on the details button and it was showing an error code 8e5e0155. I have not done anything different on the computer. Does anyone know how to correct this error so I can sign in again on live messenger. Thanks

Ive recently started getting the error message 8000401a on Windows Lives Messenger 2009 as soon as I try to login- it says the service is temporarily unavailable. Ive tried repairing it through the change/remove function within the control panel, Ive tried uninstalling deleting all temp folders, cache and registry entry and redownloading it but no joy, and this error comes up with both of my email addresses as the login.

I had a virus on my comp earlier which AVAST took care of, and I have downloaded some new anti-malware packages today, but theyre not blocking it I dont think as even when I turn off any live protection I still get the error message. Windows live does not list this error in their support area and google searches present no solutions.

Ive checked I def dont have a virus or malware (ran so many different scans today!), plus when you google it lots of people seem to be getting it and asking for a solution but there doesnt seem to be a conclusive answer

Any ideas why and what I can do to be aboe to login??
