Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6g, Thinkpad Pro Dock - 2nd display (DisplayPort) disconnects when battery 100%

Q: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6g, Thinkpad Pro Dock - 2nd display (DisplayPort) disconnects when battery 100%

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock. I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort). When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly. As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected). The power is still on the the display. The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again. Has anyone else experienced this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I'm trying to connect my X1 Carbon (4th Gen) to a monitor using HDMI. I have a Lenovo OnePlus dock, which has DisplayPort and VGA outputs but no HDMI. My monitor has VGA, HDMI, and DVI inputs but no DP. I've tried two DP to HDMI adapters (one passive, one active) but neither will work -- I get neither video nor audio. I've already tried updating the BIOS and the graphics driver. I tested this setup on an X230, which also has a DP output. That didn't work, either. I assumed the monitor's DVI input or the cable were bad -- until I tried setting the X230's BIOS display config to use DP during startup. Suddenly, the output worked -- until the boot sequence ended. Then it stopped. This indicates that the DP output on the X230 works, the HDMI input on the monitor works, and the cable and adapter work. So why can't I see video after the machine boots? I can't try this test on the X1. I was only able to get back into the X230's BIOS by connecting the monitor to an HDMI cable (my Pro Dock has an HDMI output). But the X1 and dock lack HDMI connections, so if I think I'll be unable to get back into the BIOS if I set the boot display to digital. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock.  Everything worked great under Windows 8.1.  I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue.  Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock.  For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable".  If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps.  For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop.  I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device.  All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyo... We purchased a new X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the new Thunderbolt 3 Dock Win 10 1803 and have had all kinds of problems. Bad enough to consider other brand alternatives. All Lenovo drivers are current, we updated the firmware and drivers for the dock. With that we still have the following problems and dont know how to resolve them1. The network connectivity from the dock to laptop with USB-C loses connectivity on occasion. Also when the user shuts off the laptop, comes back and turns the laptop on, no network connectivity is re-established. The only way to fix this is to unplug the USB-C cable and plug it back in. Sometimes that will lock up windows and we have to do a hard shut down and start of the laptop. 2. Running the display out from the dock is not always reliable. The monitor will turn off randomly. To bypass this issue we have to just plug the monitor directly into the laptop. 4. Occasional random bluescreens with a stop  code DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION. This error is related to bad drivers. Are we missing something. Is there anything we have to set in the BIOS to resolve these problems? I've been reading up on this dock and a lot of people are having problems with this dock and carbon 6th gen laptops

After installing the latest Bios, we noticed that the laptop will hang at the starting windows screen (windows 7) when rebooting while connected to the dock. This does not happen if not on the dock. I tried reverting to the old bios but that did not help. Im not sure what else to try.

This model is with Xeon CPU, Quadro P2000 graphics card and 1080 screen. The model of the monitor is Dell U2713HM.  When I connect my P52 to this dell monitor via a miniDP to Displayport cable, the monitor model is recognized in "Nvidia control panel" and "Display settings" of Windows, but in Display setting it shows "second display is not active". The screen remains black with a floating window: "no signal received".  Attempts so far: - In BIOS, I tried switching the graphics option from "hybrid" to "discrete", and set the start-up delay to 10 seconds. When I restart, the start-up Lenovo logo and the BIOS interface is displayed on the external Dell monitor. However, as the machine enters windows, the external display goes black (and so does the laptop display, until I unplug the cable).  - Also, I tried the miniDP to DP cable on other machines and the same screen. Works fine.  - When the laptop is connected to the same screen via a miniDP to DVI-D connector and a DVI-D cable, the Dell display works, regardless of whether I am in "discrete" or "hybrid status". However, I need to set "customize resolution"  in the Nvidia control panel to "2560x1440 40Hz" manually. (Dell display should work at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz, but it does not). Anyway, it shows that the miniDP port is not broken.   - The monitor works alright when connected to Lenovo D20, a desktop computer that I... Read more

hi all,  The reason of writing this is to express disagreement with Lenovo ThinkPad battery replacement policy.I?m a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen user, and I have been using this device for little more than an year now. Everything has been working ok, however recently (probably 2 months ago) I noticed that my battery dies much more quickly than its used to. I checked the warranty status and ... surprize, surprize the warranty of the battery had expired a month ago (I really hope that is coincident !?!). That obviously didn?t make me happy, but I said, well, nothing last forever, and one year of decent battery life is probably all you could hope for nowadays, even from X1 carbon. So, I decided, I?d pay for another year of decent battery life. I called the support line and asked how much it will cost me to get my battery replaced on site (on site replacement is part of the ThinkPad warranty). The response I got back was kind of unexpected. They explained to me that actually ?the onsite repair service is not applicable in this case as my battery is out of support already?! Now, let me explain how I feel about this.Little more than and year ago I bought a very expensive device, for that money I could have bought two devices with similar spec from another vendor/brand and kept one for spare just in case something goes wrong with the one I?m using. However, I decided to stick to ThinkPad as it was a brand famous for its built quality and more importantly 3 ... Read more

I was recently caught in a rainstorm while biking with my laptop in my backpack while it was turned on. A small amount of water got into the system and the machine will now not turn on. When I plug in the machine, a green light on the laptop body next to the charging port turns on, which implies to me that the motherboard is functioning. However, the light indicating that the battery is charging does not turn on, and the machine itself also does not turn on. With the help of an IT desk, I opened the machine and unplugged the battery and the machine still did not turn on when plugged into the wall. However, we were unsure of whether we had bypassed the battery successfully, or whether this is even possible on this specific laptop. What I am wondering is whether there is a way to bypass the battery and run the system on wall power, to determine whether it is only the battery which has been damaged? If this is impossible, is there any other way to determine whether it is the battery which is the only failing piece before I commit to purchasing a new battery which may or may not solve my problem?

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

I've just replaced the battery on my Carbon X1, and the new battery is interfering with the touchpad, making it hard to press the buttons. The new battery (actually a new, used battery, but it's way better than the original) isn't puffet out at all and as far as I can tell is no thicker than the original, but it seems to stick up somewhat from the bottom (when the keyboard is removed, I can press it down but it pops up just enough to interfere). There don't appear to be any fasteners on the bottom side of the battery, so I'm not sure exactly what it supposed to hold it in down. Anyone? Thanks!
