Change taskbar column window order?

Q: Change taskbar column window order?

This question is about the taskbar (not folder view for clarification purposes). On my windows 7 the taskbar (set to combine when taskbar is full) in default lists the windows in descending order rather than ascending like XP did, which puts the most recent window at the bottom of the column instead of the top. I desperately need to change this.

The problem is that after 22 or 23 windows the column has to scroll, and the scrolling on windows 7 has become about 5 times as slow as it was on XP. I'm a power user and regularly have 50 or 60 (or more) windows opened at the same time. So now if I open a new window in foreground it will sometimes put focus back on last window opened (not sure if it's windows 7 or firefox doing this) the window will now be all the way at the bottom of the column. Combined with the extremely slow taskbar scrolling speed this is a GIANT pita. Whereas on on xp I just clicked on the icon, it's the top window listed and....bam!, less than a second and it's back in focus. Now on windows 7 I have to click on the icon and scroll all the way to the bottom of the column at a snail's pace speed to get my window back in focus. What took less than a second in xp now takes 5-10 seconds or more depending on how many windows I have opened. Ridiculous!!!
Can someone tell me how to change the default group order in the taskbar column from descending to ascending?

And is there a way to increase the column scrolling speed of windows 7?

Why would you want to have your most recently opened window at the bottom of the column instead of the top?
This seems like one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Change taskbar column window order?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In other verisons of windows the tiles on the taskbar would be in order from time. If i opened Google Chrome, and then Adobe, and then another Google Chrome instance it would look that way. Now however it "groups" the two Google Chrome ones near other, and the Adobe one on the left. Anyway to change that?

Hey everyone,

I don?t know what happened but I can?t change the order of the pinned buttons in my taskbar.
Partially actually.
I had a preferred order (My documents/Chrome/Utorrent/iTunes) but now if I change one of the buttons they keep sticking.
The weird part is that some buttons do move, but it depends on where I leave it to drop or else they return to their original place(example: iTunes can only go left or mid left but not right or mid right) which doesn't make any sense.

I have not locked my taskbar.

What should I do to return it to the original state?

i always keep 2 firefox windows open when i'm working, one for work and one for, uh, non-work stuff. i always open my non-work window first, so its preview thumbnail is on the left, while the other window's preview thumb is on the right.

lately, they've been swapping for some reason. i'll go to open a particular window using the taskbar, and it will be on the wrong side.

is there any way to switch these short of shutting down the first window and opening it again?

When I open multiple instances of an application, say Internet Explorer, if I hover over the button group on the taskbar, the previews of the websites appear above the taskbar in the order in which they were opened from left to right (eg. 1st website on far left, ... last website on far right). I have a user who swears that he found an option at one point to cause the websites to appear in the reverse order (eg. last one opened on far left, ... 1st one opened on far right). I have not been able to find an option to do this but the user is expecting me to resolve the issue. Does anyone know if this option exists and where to find it?

I'm sorry but I don't think this is possible. The only way to tweak the taskbar thumbnail previews are through the registry, or using a small portable program called Taskbar Thumbnail Tweaker, but what you are talking about is not an option on this program nor is it tweakable through the registry(I may be mistaken).

Hi Guys Im new and have never posted here before, so please help me out.
I have my computer specs, I have windows ultimate 64-bit completely updated and Im having some trouble with pinning to the taskbar

So I can pin items fine, but I can no longer change the order of the taskbar items.
I previously had (from left to right) Chrome> WMP > Explorer > Steam (Gaming Platform)
Only those four in that order, I tried pinning something else, which didnt work, and now I have this dilemma - it changed the order of the pinned icons and now I cannot seem to change them back into the desired order. Im guessing some regedit might fix this.

Tried locking and unlocking the taskbar
also tried going to
C:\Users\"user"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
and checked to see if there was any pinned programs that shouldnt be there. Any other Ideas?

I'm hoping that is can be accomplished via the registry or something like that. Here's the reason for my question:

I am using a laptop and it's LCD screen resolution is max 1900x1200. The icons in my Task bar are in a specific order/location. For example, on the LCD screen, I have two rows of icons and one of my most-frequently used apps is the last one on row 1.

However, when I dock my laptop, my external monitor is 2560x1600 and now I only have one row of icons. Thus, that app that was at the end of row 1 is no longer at the end and now I have to "search" for it each time because I'm accustomed to it being at the end.

So, would I be able to dynamically change the order of the icons myself via the registry or something? Basically, I'm hoping to run a script/batch file that would set the order depending on whether I'm docked or not.

Thanks!

I am having problems getting the column order in a DataGridView object to display how I want it. Here are my objects:

Data object

Code:

class CData
{
//data members
private uint id;
private string name;
private object otherstuff;
//constructor
... //standard
//get / set
public uint ID{
get{ return id; }
set{ id = value; }
}
... //basic get/set for the other data members
}
I then create multiple CData objects and place them in a List<CData> object "myList". When I go to bind this list to a DataGridView I use the following code

Code:

BindingList<CData> bindlist = new BindingList<CData>(myList);
myDataGridView.DataSource = bindlist;
myDataGridView.Refresh()

the problem comes when my form is shown and my data is presented. Currently I can not figure out how to order the columns generated from my CData class properties. By default I thought they would show up in the order that they are declared like:

| ID | Name | OtherData |

but I find that the order is chosen at random (or some other factor I can not figure out) and they display something like:

| OtherData | ID | Name |

Now normally this wouldnt be too big of a problem but in my real world application I am using a Data object with over 100 fields which are generated from a file with a strict structure layout and it is critical that I see my columns in the proper order.

I hope I explained this properly and would appreciate any help that can be offered on the matter.

Good morning,

I will try to explain this best to my knowledge. I have a worksheet that will work as a report. This report will be based on Contracts. In one file (Physical) I can have multiple contracts. All linked to the same file number.

Example if file number 1234-45678 as 2 contracts then my code will automatically add the information required, adding 2 contracts for file number 1234-45678.
Therefore my initial row 5 (Example only) will add a new row underneath and will add the following information:

A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS

So my column A will always be the same linking the 2 contracts. 1234-45678/001/HS and 1234-45678/002/HS belong to file number 1234-45678.

If I need to make an amendment, in house an amendment is to make modification to a contract. In my column B I will always have the amount of contracts. In the example above the amount for Contracts is 002.

If I make an amendment and the reason of the amendment is a Termination, therefore cancelling one contract to create another one, I need to be able to change all information in my Column B vs All information from Column A. So for Example:

If
A5: 1234-45678 B5: 002 C5: 1234-45678/001/HS
A6: 1234-45678 B6: 002 C6: 1234-45678/002/HS
And I need to make the above modification then I need to add another Contract but change all information from my Column B (Made in a userform, already establish). So the above example will become:

Hi,

This could be a silly question, But I couldn't find a way to change the order of tabs which are grouped in Win 7. I like to have the recently opened Tab on top and the rest according to their history.

I've attached the screen to explain if my terminology is confusing. In this, you see the Outlook Emails grouped. I wish to have Outlook at the bottom and Emails on top of it, the top most will be the one opened recently. (Last in on top)

(I like other groups too have the same Eg. Chrome Tabs stacked).

I remember I had this settings before, But I miss that now.

Thanks in advance.

How can I have my taskbar buttons to open in the order they were opened and stay that way? (FYI buttons are un-grouped)

It's mainly my internet buttons/tabs at the bottom. Before W7, they opened in the order I open them. Hey guys,

I was wondering if there was a way for me to reverse the order of the menu items that pop up when you right click an icon / active program in the taskbar. The reason I ask this is because I put my taskbar at the top of the window (where everything else is, browser navigation, folder address/navigation, just makes sense to me), but when I right click on an icon, the persistent actions pop up immediately, and if I go to click on one (like "close this window") then the recent or pinned items expand after a second or so, causing me to misclick.

The right-click menu is designed perfectly for a taskbar on the bottom, but it's backwards up top. Any way to get them reversed? Not technically reversed I guess, but just get the persistent items to be at the top.

In Excel 2007, I have a spreadsheet with 14 columns. Twelve of the columns contain categories of data that correspond to the entries in the other two columns. I need to change the list so that each item/amount in each category occupies its own row, as follows:

Eg.

From this:

col1-----col2-----category1-----category2-----category3-----etc... up to 12 categories
aaa------bbb---------------------$55
ccc------ddd------$44--------------------------$66
To this:

col1------col2------category------amount
aaa-------bbb------2-----------------$55
ccc-------ddd------1-----------------$44
ccc-------ddd------3-----------------$66
I know how to do this manually, but it needs to be done frequently on many different sheets. So, I need a way to do it automatically.

Many thanks for your help

From what Ive seen, Word 2003 doesnt let you iterate through columns like you would in Word 2007. So, when writing this as a 2003 macro, you have to brute force it. This has worked for me (this assumes that you have already set the table width to the sum of all of these columns):

I hope I can articulate this properly...

I just got a new Lenovo laptop from my company (Win 7 Pro 32 bit with MS Office 2010). The behaviour of the ordering of the similarly grouped items within a button is different.

For example, I always have Outlook, Windows Explorer, IE and Excel open throughout the day, and always have multiple windows of each application open as well. So I have the Taskbar Button on the Taskbar Properties set to Always Combine, Hide Labels.

So for example, I have 3 IE windows open, let's say IE1, IE2 and IE3....opened in that sequence. In my experience, (personal laptop with Win 7 Pro 64 bit and my previous work Lenovo also with Win 7 Pro 64 bit (and frankly even my old XP and Vista machines), when I hover over the button on the taskbar where the IE windows are grouped, it will always show IE1 at the bottom, then IE2 and IE3 on top---basically, first window opened is shown at the bottom.

However, in this new machine I just got, it's behaving differently. IE3 is at the bottom and IE1 is on top. This is true for also grouped Outlook items, grouped Windows Explorer items and grouped Excel items. I just checked with a co-worker and his is doing the same.

Does anybody know how to change the ordering such that the newer opened windows show on top rather than at the bottom?

I sure hope I am explaining this correctly.

Any help will be appreciated.

A:How to Rearrange Order of Grouped Windows in a button on taskbar

Hi Stormm and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can do this by setting your theme to basic instead of aero: Right click desktop and select personalize

Hope this helps

I have a different sort of problem with grouping.

See, I'm a game modder, and this requires me to have many folders open at once. The problem is, when my computer goes to sleep and then wakes up, the order of my folders on the taskbar is changed. This bugs me to no end, and I'm wondering how I can stop this reordering from happening. Thanks!

A:order of my folders on the taskbar is changed after computer wakes up

That's weird. Mine don't rearrange when it resumes from sleep. Do you have some third party icon/system customizers installed or something?

One time I patched my computer so a theme will work but when I decided to change it, it wouldn't change! I enabled the theme service and I repatched my computer again, but when I change my theme, it tells me "The visual styles could not be applied. Unspecified error". Also, on the Appearance tab, the Windows and buttons are disabled so I couldn't click it.

A:The taskbar doesnt change themes and error whenever I change my theme.

For the Appearance tab, try this reg file. Save it to your desktop and double click on it to merge it to your registry. Reboot.

For the Themes, try this one.

I've read here that Windows does not remember folder view settings for removable media once the media has been removed. I see that it does remember to make the file name column 80 pixels wide. Much of the time this is not enough to see the complete file names. I'm guessing this is set somewhere in the registry but have no idea where to find it. I'm reloading an external hard drive from backup dvd's and knowing how to do this could save me just a little bit of time. Thanks for any help, bob.

1. Constantly Changing Folder Views

A source of frustration for most any Vista user is the ever-changing view type for various folders in Windows Explorer. For example you may set your \Users\[username]\Downloads directory to display in Details view, however if you copy a picture, song or video into the directory, the next time you view its contents they may be displaying in Large Icons view. Even if you go back and change the view type, it may reset itself once again the next time you place a different file type in that directory.
It's a genuine issue, and one which doesn't have any logical explanation - fortunately it can be permanently resolved.

Solution
Open the Registry Editor - see the Windows Registry chapter of the TGTC if you don't know how to access, edit or navigate the Registry. Go to the following keys:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
Right-click on the Bags key in the left pane and select Delete, then do the same thing for BagMRU. This will remove most existing customizations for things like window sizes, positions and views. While still in the same place in the Registry Editor, you will need to manually recreate one of these keys with a new setting. Right-click on the fol... Read more

Dear All,
Am running windows vista enter. 32 bit on my machine.
When i use the turn-off short key (Alt F4), the shutdown window appears and the first option in the drop down list is " Sleep ".

I want to change the order of these commands, like: i want the first option to be LogOff.

Any Help.

Best regards,

A:Shutdown window order

Hello Bjam, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I do not believe that this order can be changed other than what you have your Start Menu power button set to.

If it can help, you could create a Log Off shortcut instead to use.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Maybe a silly question but... Running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, and IE 9.
I usually have IE windows open monitoring 6 different forums. When I hover the mouse over the IE icon on the task bar, the 6 IE windows show preview panes across the bottom of the desktop, in the order in which they were opened. Sometimes the order of these preview panes changes. What causes this? Where/how are these preview panes stored?

As I don't use IE I can only guess. Maybe the order in which you last viewed them?

I have a sager laptop that I bought and can't change the boot order. I get into the bios and windows boot manager is option 1 but when I click on it I seem to only get an option to disable or change order with UEFI IP4 or 6 which are options 2 and 3. I'm trying to boot from an extenal dvd drive. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

A:Can't change boot order

Are you trying to do a one time change-meaning you do not want to permanently change the boot order, just for that one action(like booting to install an OS or use a live disk)? most PCs et you do it when you press the power button start spamming(repeatedly pressing) the Escape key, then the boot order menu will pop up, then choose the disk you want.

Hi and welcome to seven forums

It may be more trouble than it is worth. Are these drives built into a tower?
Why do you want to change the order?

Thanks

Just added a new Samsung M.2 SSD that the OS sees in the device manager. I've got a copy of the recovery image made and saved on a USB 3.0 drive.If I boot from the USB drive and run the recovery, how do I get make it so the SSD is the default boot device. When it goes into the recovery options from the USB flash drive, it doesn't specify which drive to use.  The BIOS/ UEFI  options aren't much help either. I'm just finding the HDD just way too slow.Thanks,Sheila

A:Change Boot Order

I found the solution!  Go to the BIOS and under the System Configuration menu, I had to enable "Legacy" boot. When I restarted the laptop, it booted to the new Samsung  M.2 SSD by default as I'd used the Samsung migration tool to clone the main hard drive onto the SSD already. Now boots lightning fast!

Hello everyone hopefully someone can help me out with my issue .

I was having issues with my laptop and somehow ended up setting my boot device to the CD drive in BIOS . Now my computer will only boot to what is on the CD which is the program windows boot genius . if i don't have the CD in it'll repeatedly turn on and shut down unless i put the CD back in . I know i have to get back to the BIOS to change my boot device back to my HD ? but im unable to do so . F2 is my bios key but that takes me to windows boot manager where i can only select windows and it loads up to the program all over again .
I can access task manager etc and the run window and see my files are still there though . I did a boot file test through the program and none of the files are missing and it recognizes that my PC was on windows 8.1 .

I need to change the boot order in order to fix a problem with start up. How do I do that?

A:Change boot order

You mean changed the boot order of your Physical Drives? If so, you want to hit F2 or F8, sometimes DEL (depending which type of machine you have) and you should enter BIOS when youre computer is booting. Let me know if that helps.
