Start page of browser

Q: Start page of browser

Is it a way on internet explorer, Maxthon browser and Firefox to put a command next to 'iexplore.exe'
inside a shortcut that will start a specific web page during startup of the browser? This way the start page
won't go away from a new installed application.

Preferred Solution: Start page of browser

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use Windows 98 (just to let u know).
My Internet Explorer (IE6) start page (previously www.yahoo.com) has been replaced by ''. I've tried changing my home page option in IE's properties back to www.yahoo.com, but the 'intruder site' keeps reseting the address field and coming back again...

I'll attempt to descibe what happens exactly once I'm connected to the net...
Once I've connected to the internet, opening IE takes me to '' , 'www.Cool Web Search.com', ’about:blank’, a few ads about fixing spyware on my pc and another window named 'tpx/open/console_out.php' or something like that...one after the other in succession...(then again, I’m not sure I got the order right…that isn’t important anyway…)

Once I get the 'tpx/open/console_out.php' window I find it necessary to close it immediately 'cuz if I let it load, it disconnects me from the internet , and my second attempt to connect back proves futile as I get a message saying 'The modem is being used by another Dial-up connection. I don’t know if this message I encounter is related in any way to a Dail-up Connection dialog box which keeps popping up on my screen almost without reason randomly at any time, right from the moment I switch on my pc. This Dail-up Connec... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSG,

First click: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html to download CWShredder, but don't run it yet.

Next click: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe to download the Backdoor.Agent.B Removal Tool from Symantec. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your Windows desktop.

Close all the running programs

If you are on a network or have a full-time connection to the Internet, such as a DSL or cable modem, disconnect the computer from the network and Internet.

Double-click the FxAgentB.exe file to start the removal tool.
When you receive the message telling you start any other applications, click OK.

Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer.

Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

Be sure to save the log file the removal tool creates to post back here later.

Run CWShredder immediately. Click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do its thing.

Please download and run the following programs:

Go here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and download Ad-Aware SE Personal

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Hello,I want to make my browser start automatically weekly, same day and time and open a specified page.My questions are:1. I tried the Outlook way, like in MS tutorial http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254489.Well, in step 7 there is no "This is an Online meeting" check box in my window, and of course no "NetShow Services", so I can't conclude the setup; the question is what is wrong with Outlook (I use Outlook 2003).2. Is there any other smarter way to do this..?Thanx

Dear Admin,
I have further information.
The virus is most probably due to the following 3 programmes:
i) WindowsManger pro
ii) Thegophotoit
iii) the hdvid-codec v10
I have removed it from the "Uninstall list". When I try and uninstall, they said error occurred and it was removed from the list.
Kindly guide me how to solve the issue and the computer lag issue.
I believe the lag issue is also due to these 3 programmes.
Many thanks.

I don't use IE, I use Opera portable
It was not registered as the default browser which it is now,
Clinking on web links within applications (help & support links for example) opens the browser ok, but only to my start page, not to the intended web page.
Also, when I click on a HTML file, it does the same thing. Opens the browser to the start page, not the file.

It's not recognizing the link or the file.

I went through the URL Associations etc. in the registry and they all point to Opera. Protocols point to Opera also. I was successful the 1st time I tried this, but I don't remember exactly how that was different that this time. (I had to load a recent backup image for other unrelated problems left over from a bloated program I couldn't clean out).

Any ideas??

I haved scanned with SpyBot S&D and used AVG but have had no luck. I have windows 98, yes I know I'm way behind the times! I'm not an expert but ran regedit yesterday and found the above entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/InternetExporer/main. The above value data is linked to the value name "Start Page". I tried modifying the data to google, but again it reverts back!

Would someone be able to help me with this and guide me with what I should do?

On my plain ISP connection the page loads up OK. Not sure if I have a problem, but this certainly is odd beahviour.

This question is about using "Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}."

I've read many solutions for this online and in MS's help files. None of them are working, and it really has me perplexed because I consider myself an advanced user.

My document is a book:

The first page of my book is a cover page. It shouldn't be counted in page numbering.
Beginning on the second page, my book has a TOC and then 9 chapters.
The TOC and each chapter are set up in their own sections. (I do this because I include the chapter's name - which is the section name - in the footer along with page numbers. It also facilitates creating the TOC)
I want the TOC to be counted as Page 1
All of that works fine for the {PAGE} page number. To accomplish it, I told Word to start counting page numbers from 0, and I suppressed displaying the number on the Cover. Then for subsequent pages I selected "Continue from previous section."
My issue is that I really want to show both the current page and the total number of pages ("Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}") in the footer.

When I try that, {PAGE} displays correctly, but {NUMPAGES} shows one too many. It is obviously counting the cover page.

Evidently what I did in #5 above only affects the count for {PAGE} and not for {NUMPAGES}.

All over the web I find the simple solution of using a formula field for {NUMPAGES} as follows:

Actually, I think that would do the opposite of what I want. I would probably have to... Read more

A:Solved: Word 2007 Page Numbering: Make {NUMPAGES} start counting from Page 2?

I was just messing with the same issue and found a solution:

This may look exactly like something you tried already but here is the difference:

Instead of typing in the curly braces ( { ) manually, you have to hit "Ctrl-F9" to insert a field, then do the same for the braces around "NUMPAGES". You wind up with a field inside a field. That way it interprets the "NUMPAGES" as your document property, returns a number like "42", then the next field takes the equation "= 42 - 1" and returns "41". If you don't use "CTRL-F9" to enter the "NUMPAGES" field, it sees the first curly brace and stops, seeing it as a syntax error.

Hope it works for you! It worked for me!

Recently, I changed DSL providers from Earthlink to another company. I did this for two reasons: the Earthlink throughput was awful, and their tech support was virtually useless. After numerous attempts to get the speed problems resolved I finally gave up. Upon ordering the new provider's service, I uninstalled Earthlink from my PC. Problem is, no matter what I do, my IE home page is the Earthlink start page. I have used the IE options to change it, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have changed it in the registry, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have checked for spyware/adware, run registry cleaner, you name it. Is my PC going to be forever haunted by Earthlink? I have XP home edition, latest version. Can someone rid me of this troublesome home page?

I've got a problem. After installing some silly small program from the Internet, I cannot change the start
page in my browser any more. It is defaults to some
address that displays a frame as a bar on top with
some ads. I WANT IT TO BE REMOVED but no matter what
I did it stayed there. I think the IE files might
have been patched by that prog?

Any advice will be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

In Word, I want to add automatic page numbering to my document. But suppose I have some X number of title pages that I don't want numbered. How can I have no numbers or headers at all on pages 1 through X, and then start the page numbering only on some arbitrary page X+1, and have the numbering offset, so that page X+1 is numbered p.1, page X+2 is numbered p.2, etc.?

A:How to start Word's page numbering on a different page?

a horrible question

you're wanting to use section breaks to define specific parts of your document
- have some sections without page numbers, then some with page numbers
- and the page numbers starting at a specific number on a specific page and going in order from there
right ?

see Dreamboat's webpage for some initial info.

your first section should have the unnumbered pages
your next section should have the numbered pages

you create a section break by clicking on 'insert' from the menu bar and choosing 'break'
normally use 'next page' when it asks what kind of break you want
it helps to have the option selected to show all characters, marks etc so you can see where the breaks are (tools, options, formatting marks)

you format the numbering through page numbering, also in the 'insert' section (i don't use this option)
through the header/footer options - you can insert a page number, insert the number of pages, or format the page number (ie where it starts etc)

this is one of the most frustrating things to master in word (in my opinion ) because it seems to have it's own logic
- once you get the hang of it, it works well

is a very simple example [forum doesn't allow .doc attachments)
- no page number on page one
- page number on page two, starting at 1

note: when printing, your printer sees all pages without knowing what page number you gave it
- so wit... Read more

I'm having an issue I just can not understand. When I have two IE browsers open, I sometimes get the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error on the second brower. When I try to go to the same page as the working browser I get the samel thing. It's like the second browser is not connectted to the internet. After shutting down both browsers several times and even rebooting sometimes, it will eventually work fine. I thought it might be the modem going bad, but if one browser is working, then that can 't be it. Hopefully this made sense ... any ideas? I"m stumpped!!

Show below is the hijack log that I copied after using AdAware with the full scan. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

I have a weird situation which the company that I'm working with can't provide an explanation.

I am trying to log into the following web page: http://www.methodintegration.com/solutionproviders

but it says that it doesn't recognize my username/password in Firefox, IE, Opera, and Chrome browsers.

However, in a virtual machine with Windows 7 32-bit (same OS as main computer), I am able to log in successfully. I have tons of programs on my main computer so I can't figure out which one is blocking it. I have Avast! antivirus on both machines, so I know this isn't causing the problem. I tried uninstalling Spybot on my main machine (since this is not on the virtual) and that didn't solve the problem. I also tried renaming the hosts file to hosts.old and I tried removing all the Spybot entries in the hosts file but this didn't solve the problem.

Is there any way to run a log or determine what protocol that web page is using that something else is trying to block? I have already tried removing all web browsing history, cookies, cache, etc. and it does not fix the problem. Could this be something that visiting the site for the first time was put in the registry with a different user name/password?

Please help!

I have recently formatted my hard drive and changed from WinXP back to WinMe. I am a member of several Yahoo and Ezboard communities, and since reverting to WinMe, when I click to "log in" to my ezboard forums it works fine with the first picture I view, but when I go to view a new picture my browser keeps prompting me to "log in again"
With the Yahoogroups, it prompts me to accept the terms and conditions page and when I click yes it keeps reloading the same page!
Help!!! WinXP come back all is forgiven!

A:Browser Reloading The Same Page

And what in God's name possessed you to downgrade to ME?!?!?!

Anyway, I think the problem may lie in the browser upgrade/downgrade process. Windows XP comes with IE6 (I think), which is basically the latest version (probably minus the odd patch). I think that ME comes with a slightly older browser, 5.5 I think.

Anyway, if you still want to stay with ME [spits], hop on over to Microsoft's site and download version 6, which is compatible with Windows 98 and ME, contrary to some people.

Or, alternatively, find the option to enable cookies in your version. It's in Tools > Internet Options. Go to the Privacy tab and see if cookies are being blocked.
