Probook 6560b Issues After Upgrading to Windows 10

Q: Probook 6560b Issues After Upgrading to Windows 10

I upgraded my Probook 6560b notebook to Windows 10 64-bit and I am having issues with Windows Explorer crashing every couple of seconds. When I attempt to go to the Control Panel to start uninstalling software that may be conflicting with the OS, as soon as I open the Control Panel, Windows Explorer crashes and closes everything that was open and I'm back to the Desktop. I started uninstalling anything that was HP related on the machine by using the portable version of Reveo uninstaller but I still can't find the culprit, including uninstalling the Validity fingerprint software. I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can offer me on this issue. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

ITTech9 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems since your Win10 Upgrade and wanted to help. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: How to Resolve Post-Win10 Upgrade Issues on HP Laptops ... - HP Support Forum - 5209825 In addition, you should consider doing something known as a Repair-Install. This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact. To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). I have been looking into upgrading my ProBook 6560b recently. I've started to do more video and photo editing for my side business. So I want to upgrade my RAM to 16GB total and upgrade my current 250GB SATA II hard drive to a 512GB SATA III SSD. My current BIOS version is F.63 and I have heard about these notebooks being really unreliable with SSD upgrades in the past. I dont see the point in upgrading to an SSD if I can only utilize it as a 3Gb/s speed which is SATA II speed. Does this lastest BIOS version (F.63) support using an SSD at the 6Gb/s SATA III speed or will I have to run the SSD at 3Gb/s? Also, can I run 16GB of RAM in my machine or will it only run with up to 8GB or RAM? Thank you!

Hello everybody,

My name is lightyears_away from the Netherlands and I'm having trouble with my HP ProBook. It is running very slowly at startup and during general use. Sometimes I have to wait 10 - 20 seconds after clicking on an application before something happens. Also, when I open the start menu for the first time after start up, I see that the icons of all programs are not yet rendered. An other thing: when I shut down the system, I often get the message that some program is still running and it may be forced to shut down.

Today I have done an extensive malware/adware/virus sweep with several programs and with Ccleaner. Certain files were deleted but I haven't experienced any improvement. I am wondering whether there is some bug/error in my system configuration that is slowing it down.

Maybe one of you heroic experts here could be so kind to advice me on how to improve the performance of my system? I would be very thankful!

First thing I suggest:  Run the chkdsk /r command on the C: partition.

Appears that you have a Dupplica service running...yet no app appears to be installed.  My guess would be that this may account for the VSS errors, since Dupplica seems to assert its own VSS, while Windows has VSS as a native function.  I would disable the currently running Duplicca VSS service.

Hey, I've been trying to install Windows Server 2012 R2 for a school project. Sadly, on the HP ProBook 6560b Notebook I've run into a problem with finding the Network Adaptor.  Here's the following driver installs used:-sp54548-sp54549-sp60775 Also, the Intel install for this model's network adapter. All have failed and power cycling didn't contribute. I've seen in past forums this has a solution but all are dead links or a link to the HP Support page that doesn't list WIndows Server 2012 but every other WIndows OS and Linux. I ONLY NEED THE ETHERNET TO WORK. Thank you.

A:ProBook 6560b Notebook with Windows Server 2012 R2 NIC NOT W...

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try the W8.1 ethernet driver.  Try manually installing it if the auto install method doesn't work. This package contains the driver installation package for the Intel 82579LM and 82579V Gigabit Ethernet Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63881.exe ...and you tried the driver directly from Intel?  I'm surprised that didn't work either. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23073/Intel-Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-Server-2012... You may want to use the free file utility, 7-Zip and use it to extract the exe file into its driver folder and browse to it from the ethernet controller in the device manager and see if it installs that way.

Hi, I was working on my HP probook 6560b last week and i set it to Sleep after an hour during which time i also slept. I woke up the following day but my laptop refused to wake up, the charging light (bolt indicator) will be flashing whenever i connect the power supply or the battery. I have removed both battery and power supply and press the power button for approximately 20sec without success. An urgent help is needed to resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation.

A:HP Probook 6560b won't power on

We've had a similar issue with our Probooks.  Below are troubleshooting steps we've taken: Removed batteryPlugged in (via power cord)Turned on. Fan running. NO video. Caps light blinking. Can't ping.No response to Ctrl-Alt-DelNo response to pressing/holding power buttonUnplugged. Plugged back in.Turned on. Boots OK. Logged in.Replaced battery. Turned on again. All appears OK.Nothing in the event logs to indicate a critical failure. We've had these steps work for some of the laptops, but others simply offer no response at all.  Then HP sends a box for us to ship laptop for repair and they replace the system board. Of the 250+ of these we've ordered, I'd say we're looking at a 5% fail rate so far (they're 2 months old).

hi, i recently purchased a hp probook 6560b and wanted to give it an upgrade by replacing the standard 500gb 7200rpm hdd with a 120gb force gt ssd. but the notebook doesn't recognize the ssd at all, it says no drive is installed. the notebook has the latest bios available and the ssd has the most recent firmware. i know the ssd isn't defective because it works just fine in my desktop pc. hopefully one of you guys can help me out. thanks in advance.

A:probook 6560b does not recognize my SSD

When the BIOS doesn't detect an ssd, it's probably caused by the voltage of the ssd. I have noticed that some Probooks and Elitebooks have this issue but nobody could find a proper solution. I would contact the BIOS manufacturer..

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

Hello Experts, Trying to improve the behaviour of my laptop (Probook 6560b), I've tried to install a SSD instead of the CD unit, by using a Caddy. All good, but the SSD is not installed since it was not validated in the Bios.As the admin account was not implemented at the initial setup of the system, I have no password to recover. Also the fingerprint or the stupid questions were not activated.I use the BIOS pass three times with no error code. The CMOS reset doesn't help, either. So, if you please can help me with the clear BIOS which can help me re-start the admin registration, that will be a great help. Thank you,Emil.

Hi, guys again !I have another hot and pain in the ass issue. In notebook HP probook 6560b originaly primary disk was Western digital Scorpio black 500GB, but I change them to SSD Kingstone 200V 30GB. I set up boot from optical drive and try installing OS (Win7), however win setup couldnt install because of: 1st-missing drivers, 2nd-disk couldnt see, 3rd-lagy/slowly setup and freeze.. I try set up ahci and ide - didnt work. I bought hdd icy box instead of optical drive and put in SSD with preinstalled OS. It boot fine, after switch on notebook and then hard switch off. Switch on again, with pressing f10. But, if I install 500GB hdd to primary SATA slot for disk, HP bios want only boot from it. It doesnt matter what I set in boot priority, every start up wants boot from 500GB hdd. So, I try install xubuntu 16.04 on 500GB hdd and try set up GRUB boot menu. In OS Xubuntu works SSD fine, but If I want boot win7 fron menu, says no such device.. I try upgrade grub, but nothing change. So, does a HP ProBook 6560b accepts SSD drives? Some solution?

Hi guys I bought Plextor M5S 256gb few days ago. With the latest bios f.40 it was working as SATA2 even when SATA3 in Bios was set. So I have started to looking for some solution and I found one In 6560b we have the same bios like for example 8560p and some 8560p owner tried to downgrade f.40 bios version to f.20 (can be found on 8560p page) and it solved his problem with SATA2 ! So I did the same and here is the result: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc142/DziubekR1/Beznbsptytu1420ubmp_zpsc010cba5.jpg As we can see, the result is much, much better, but to be honest, still worst then I could seen in reviews. I see that in f.20 bios there is no option to change SATA 2 or SATA 3 like in f.40, it is changed automatic. In f.40 we can chosse, but with my HDD it doesn`t matter whether it was SATA2 or SATA3 set in bios, it was always working as SATA2. The question is why HP did something like that with the latest bios. If there was some problem with SATA3 that we don`t know about, why they gave us the choice between SATA2 and SATA3 in f.40 ? For now it is working without any problems, but maybe we don`t know everything  BTW I was looking for some solution to make my 6560b silent and I found a great program - " TPFanControl by troubadix", version for 4530s works great with our 6560b. Hi, I have just installed Win 7 Ult x64 on my laptop. Then I have installed all the drivers needed from HP website and I have installed ESET NOD32 Antivirus. When using my computer I have registered two BSOD so far (it is 12 hours from installation).

The problem:
It is not exactly BSOD which I can see.
I command my PC to shut down - it starts to shut down - there is a sign Shutting down... for maybe 20 minutes and the PC then restarts. When it logs into the Windows a dialog appears that the system recovered from serious error, bsod giving error number 1000009f.

Please, control my dump files. I suspect some of the drivers as HP drivers support is everytime very bad.

Hi, i forgot my administrator password for bios access for my HP Probook 6560b. Can you help me with this issue?  Thanks in advance.

@Miguel12 Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Since your model is not listed select ?SHOTGUN.? After reboot repeat ?SHOTGUN? a second time. Some instructions here. ?If you cannot boot from USB there are instructions to make a bootable HDD.? http://mazzifsoftware.blogspot.com/2014/01/hp-bios??-unlock-for-dos.html More help here.http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility?s=ad... REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services... Hello, Here is the problem that I've encountered with my laptop HP 6560b. My HDD has crashed and is beyond repair. I've went into the store and bought new HDD-SSD (Samsung 840 pro). I've replaced crashed HDD with new SSD. But to no joy. During WIN7 installation I've came to part where I need to select place where I want to have my new OS. Thing is it's can't be read. When you executed the download BIOS softpaq, did you create a flash bootable key at that point? i assume you used another computer to do that? If you created a bootable usb key from the BIOS softpaq, you will see 3 files 68SCF.BINeRompaq.exegpl2.txt You can then insert the key no the laptop usb port and reboot to upgrade the BIOS. Is this what did not work?

Hi all, there are so many problems report about WiFi issues on Windows 10, but I did not really find mine. I'm running the HP ProBook 470 with the Atheros 9000 series WiFi adapter. It worked fine with Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit. A couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. Everything works fine, except WiFi. I can connect to the WLAN and the signal strength and network speed is perfect, but after some time (minutes or even hours) it suddenly drops down and my WLAN router even states disconnected, but it will repair by itself after some time. I can force the "self-repair-speed" by disabling and enabling WiFi again. But, this is no good solution, WiFi must work reliable all the time when not moving around, and it work perfectly with Windows 7. I hoped that Microsoft and the hardware vendors do manage the drivers after one year of Windows 10 release, but seems not to be so. I already installed the latest driver from HP download site, but this is already one year old, and it was the same like Windows / Microsoft did while Windows Upgrade. So no change to be expected. Before I downgrade again to Windows 7, what else can I do? Are there some other drivers which might interfere with WLAN and might not be up to date? (Besides the WLAN driver I did not update others manually as I did rely to the Windows upgrade process.) Volker

I have a customer that ive done a fresh install of windows 10 on a new hard drive for.  On windows 7, there is no issue with battery charging (new battery, new charger)  but when I swap the drive and boot windows 10, the battery reports as plugged in not charging.  Usually around 96%.   If the charger is unplugged, let the battery die down to 5% or so, then plug charger back in, it charges fine, goes to 100%, then after awhile it says the same thing, plugged in not charging.  (which i see as normal, but pretty sure the hp power mgmt software would report it as still plugged in and charging, try explaining to a customer when they see something as what they think is a problem..)There is no hp peak power manager for windows 10, only windows 7 and 8.1.  The windows 7 or 8.1 version will not install on windows 10.  Tried in compatibility mode for every version of windows known to man.  Anyone know if there is an HP version of power management software tuned for windows 10 floating around somewhere, maybe for a different laptop?  Thank you.

A lot of issues, because of this driver...I really need this, as I'm teacher and I', using both internal display & HDMI for presentations... Any solutions? Hi! Recently, I installed Windows 10 64x on my HP Probook 5330m. Some of the drivers I installed were not compatible. The results were: 1: Fingerprint reader not working2: HP Protect Tools not working - After I installed it, the Windows login screen starts flashing and freezes. No password, no fingerprint reader there. Just flashes and a blank screen. (Compatibility issue, I think) I have to install a new windows after that.3: And some other minor problems Previously, I had Windows 7 64 bit and everything was working fine on it. Three options were there to log in on the login screen (Password, face detection, and fingerprint). What should I do? Love windows 10 and doesn't want to go back to 7. I just wanted to ask, is there any alternative or compatible software like HP ProtectTools? Can you provide a fix for it? Thanks!

Hello all,I have been plagued with an issue.Upon plugging the charger into my laptop, regardless of power setting, the cpu speed will slowly plummet to 101mhz regardless of usage.I have checked and double checked the Minimum and Maximum processor state options to try and alleviate it but these have no change, the problem only occurs when windows is booted outside of safe mode.Cpu/gpu temperatures appear to be within their normal ranges, however the cpu speed will ascend to the normal 2.53 ghz once the battery charge has reached 67-69%,hwmonitor shows voltages within normal ranges, and the battery at 0% wear.Changing the Maximum/Minimum processor states will temporarily raise the cpu speed to normal for roughly 5 minutes, then it begins a slow descent to 101mhz,any help will be appreciated!

Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice if possible. I really don't know what to call my problems, and I don't know if its related to my laptop, or the upgrade.

Firstly, when dragging an internet page up or down, using the mouse pad (buttons work fine), the bar doesn't release for a second or so. I know this may not sound bad, but as I move to click something or whatever, it moves my page all over as it still thinks I am dragging the page, so any help on that would be great.

Also, when I search on the internet, through google or whatever, a lot of the time, when I type, once I look what I have typed, the first letter is always at the end of the sentence, so again, any assistance on that would be great.

I am using a samsung laptop, although I can't see that being the problem, as these issues didn't happen while on windows 7

Thanks

I am trying to find out if there is support available for a CPU that I would like to install in my laptop. I have a HP Probook 650 G1 that came with a I5-4200mq. I am wanting to put a I7-4810mq CPU in it to speed it up and allow for CAD and Video/music editing. I know it's a big jump, and that it goes up to a 47w CPU. But, is there any support for the chip? Will it work properly? Will it damage the board from over powering it? I understand that I will sacrifice battery life, that's not an issue. I just don't want to damage a 6 month old laptop.

I am experiencing some issues when I replace the factory fitted HDD with a SSD in my ProBook 470 G4 Notebook. In short, the notebook intermittently crashes and freezes with the SSD fitted, full story outlined below: I initially fitted the SSD to the notebook and imaged the "factory supplied" OS from the original HDD to the SSD, everything worked as expected and all seemed fine. Unfortunately after a few hours the whole thing locked up/froze and I had to forcibly power it off (by holding the power button down). On the next boot it became apparent that the SSD had become corrupt as it performed a startup repair and when Windows finally loaded my user profile was corrupt (Windows loaded a temp profile). I re-imaged the OS again and re-tried the whole process, everything seemed fine so I left it on overnight as a test, I checked it the next morning to find it at BIOS screen with the error message "Boot device not found". I powered it off and back on, it then started to boot but again corruption was apparent. For my third attempt I performed a clean install of the OS manually, but the same symptoms occurred where the notebook freezes/crashes and the SSD becomes corrupt. For troubleshooting measures I performed a Memory test dianostic overnight, it PASSED. I have tried three brand new SSD drives (all yield the same results). FYI I'm using the Crucial MX300 2.5-inch 275 Gb SSD. I have installed the latest BIOS for the notebook, and the latest devic... Read more

Hello!I've just bought used (but mostly disassembled) 6470B. It's in very good shape (after cleaning... yuck!) and I see it becoming my main machine. However it's lacking essential components. I want to be it as modern as possible, since it's going to be in use as long as possible. Problem is HP documentation is wildly confusing and often contradicting itself. Will it work with: - Core i7-3632QM 35W Quad core CPU? I've found it's officially compatible with I7-3820QM (which is surprisingly 45W part, but extremely hard to come by in my area). I'd really love quad core CPU, it speeds up my work so much. - HP LT2523 LTE mPCIe modem (it's listed as a spare part for this laptop, despite only hs2350 and un2430 being listed on modem support)? - Intel 7260-AC WiFi/BT card? Previous model I had had WIFI whitelisting, this model probably doesn't, but I'd like to check. - Keyboard with a trackpoint? This requires some explaining: Originally it came with really badly dirty keyboard (not spilled, just unsavagably greased, like doritos mixed with butter massaged into it), and it lacked the trackpoint. Only spares I can find cheaply come with it - will it work (does it have the connector), or if not, will the keyboard still work? - FHD or HD+ IPS display, if there are compatible spares (with correct cable, of course)? I understand that half of it isn't officially  supported, but I'll take the risk, as long as it works. Thanks in advance!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There are two Intel motherboards. One with the QM77 chipset and one with the HM76 chipset. The top listed processor is the i7-3540M. It is listed as a Quad Core but I think in reality it has 2 cores. The smart answer is that you cannot use the i7-3632QM but it may work, particularly if you have the model with the QM77 chipset.  The WWAN modem you ask about is listed in the parts list so will work.  You can only use the WLAN cards listed on p. 38 and it has to be one with an HP Part number.  There are keyboard options with and without the trackpoint so the motherboard is made to accept either one. See the picture on p. 92. There should be a zif connector for the pointer stick right next to the bigger zif for the main keyboard cable.  Looks like the best screen is a 1600 x 900 (HD+).  14.0-in, LED, FLT, HD+, AntiGlare display panel 686047-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-0-1600x900-LED-Screen-for-HP-ELITEBOOK-FOLIO-9470M-LCD-LAPTOP-686047-001-... It's a 40-pin LED screen and likely a FHD version in the same form factor, even an IPS, would work but never sure.  Post back if you have any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello there everyone.

I've been working on a system for a little while now, and am ready to upgrade it to Windows 7 (currently running XP Pro SP3, and yes, it is capable of running 7) . Long story short, here are the issues that I am facing:

1. When trying to boot from the disk, the system skips over the DVD drive and goes directly to XP boot (even though in the BIOS, the DVD drive is the first boot option and even does so when I manually select to boot from the disk drive)
2. When trying to run the software from XP, the error message "Windows could not retrieve information about disks on this computer (even after populating the disk through Device Management)
3. This system, and all of my XP install disks, it seems, lack VDS.exe (which has never caused a problem in previous upgrades)

Anyhow, hopefully, there's something relatively simple that I am overlooking, as I've completed this process many a time before without a hitch and am at my wit's end with this system.

Cheers, and thanks in advance,

A:Issues upgrading to Windows 7

Two things occur to me.

(1)  Your Win 7 install disc could be faulty - rare, but has been known to happen. Try it in another computer and see if it will boot from that disc.

I've been working on a system for a little while now

I take it this means you have backed up any data you want off it, then,

(2)  Use either a self-booting Linux CD (Puppy comes to mind) or a partitioning disc like GParted to format your C:\ drive then run the installer. I have used Puppy several times in the past to good effect to recover data and check otherwise odd drives. I have no personal experience with GParted but people on BC whose opinions I trust speak highly of it.

Like you, I have updated computers from XP to Win 7 a number of times but I have never run into this problem myself.

PS - Welcome to BC !

Using ComboFix on your own is not recommended. It is a very powerful tool and should be used only under supervision of a BC Malware expert.

You say that you have done some damage to Windows Vista files and that you had malware on Vista. At this stage, I recommend that you do a fresh install of Windows 7 rather than upgrading from Vista to 7.

Hi! Looking for help with some issues that developed after installing Windows 10....

Background: No problems with Windows 7. Had computer for 5+ years....held off on upgrading to Windows 10 in fear of problems, but was in queue to get the upgrade. Pop up would come up every so often to upgrade, but I dismissed the requests. Well, one of my kids must have accidentally allowed the upgrade to happen. I navigated the system & found no real issues, so I kept the upgrade to Windows 10. I noticed I had a problem with "permissions" on USB drives after I backed up my sister's old Iphone to my hard drive (she has no real computer for storage space). Anyhow, I was gonna put all of her pictures and videos on a flash drive to give to her for safe keeping. After I copied them over to the drive, I tried to look at them to make sure everything went over well. I recieved a "you don't have permission to view this file" message. I deleted everything and tried again. Same message. I'm thinking maybe Apple has some type of proprietary stuff embedded in the files so I just shelve the project for a while.

Fast forward to recently. I was trying to edit a USB drive that had music on it. It recognizes the drive, but it would not let me delete any files. I recieved another "permissions" message. I was able to copy files over to the drive, but I got "files already exist, do you want to overwrite". I clicked yes and the files were copied. ... Read more
