Preferred Solution: I upgraded to windows 10, now my computer 's wifi keeps disconnecting from my Wfi router service. my laptop is a 1 Tb dell.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The laptop's wifi was working fine in my house before. I only couldn't get it to connect at the local library, even though there's free wifi there and my other laptop would connect straight away there, but this dell laptop refused to connect, so I just use it at home.

We just got a new home modem yesterday and the laptop's wifi now refuses to work in the house. The desktop computer we have works just fine and the wifi on my phone also works fine; I never have problems with that! So the internet in the house works just fine. I did some searches on my phone and found out updating the drivers could get the wifi on my laptop to work and I did that. I used another computer, downloaded and saved the drivers on a usb, then used that to update the drivers on the laptop. After I did this, the wifi started connecting, but not successfully. It only connects for about 4 minutes, then disconnects itself for about 2mins, then connects itself again! When it disconnects, it goes to another network on my network list. I've used it at my school's campus before, so sometimes I might find the check mark is beside my school's wifi name, which's really weird - because I'm at home. Other times I would find it beside another wifi name. I've used it at another home before a year ago and I've found the check mark beside their network name as well. Basically what I'm noticing is that it disconnects from the home network and goes to another on my list, then goes back to our home network by itself and c... Read more

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

My wifi connections goes off and on on my Hp laptop several times in an hours time. It stays off sometimes for two minutes and sometimes for 10 or more minutes. My other laptop and phone stay connected to the wifi. What do I need to do. I found this site thru anther forum and I went to their link they had in the forum and it took me to the InSSider Page of this site. I clicked on the download link for WIndows and it downloaded and installed on my computer and then just went back to that same page. I thought it was suppose to run a scan (analyzer) on my computer? So where and what do I need to do for it to run a scan on my computer to check the channels being used and possible interference with my wifi? Or if there is something else that I need to do to fix my wifi connection issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Guys,

I have just recently bought a Windows 8 Laptop from my mates computer shop. It seemed fine for a while and then its suddenly started dropping out on wireless internet connection.

It does load back up onto the wireless connection but not for long.

My mate said it could have been the router in the house but others have said otherwise.

Any recommendations?

Cheers.

A:Laptop Wifi keeps disconnecting??? Help!!!!

Hey Damian, have you updated your wifi adapted driver recently?
If you already have the latest driver, a reinstall of the driver may be a good idea.
To do this, simply search "update drivers" in the start menu, this should bring up the same program as in the attached image

I have an hp laptop.. Not too old but it's not brand new either. For some reason every time I am on it, the wifi disconnects and I am not able to reconnect unless I restart my laptop. I know it's not a problem with the actual wifi because everyother laptop and phone is working perfectly. The problem is that the laptop does not have a battery life so it will just turn off if you unplug it...
Please help, this is extremely frustrating!

Make sure you have the latest correct wireless driver (from the laptop manufacturer's web site if an integrated adapter).

If that doesn't fix the problem ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. The wifi is fine -- it still works on other devices -- and is still available with full bars but refuses to reconnect unless I restart my laptop, at which point it'll be connected and working fine again (until the the next time).
I've tried updating the wireless adapter drivers and turning off WiFi Sense but no dice.

I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. I have AVG free 2014 as my active antivirus, but occasionally run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Temporary File Cleaner to keep things running smoothly.

I've had this issue for a while now. AVG recently picked up a few trojan viruses on a scan last week, and I thought my issues would have been resolved, but alas, they have not.

Also, before I begin, I want to note that I'm having these issues only on this laptop, even though I have another laptop computer and iPhone that I use the same wifi connection on.

So here's my issue. I'll get on my computer and pull up Chrome. I wait for the wifi to connect. Sometimes it connects without a problem, other times I sit and watch the little blue circle as it loads and loads,  then tells me that it was unable to connect. I'll disconnect and reconnect, and usually that works. Whenever I'm using the internet, the wifi randomly disconnects. It can happen as often as every 5-10 minutes.

I've scanned with everything I can think of, I've unplugged and restarted the modem countless times....I honestly do not know what to do. I don't know if this is a virus or if there's something wrong with my computer's devices or....I honestly don't know what to do, so please, please help.

Thank you in advance,
Cassidy

A couple months ago, I upgraded my cable modem to DOCSIS3.0, and just yesterday upgraded my WiFi router. I also changed the WiFi security settings and went around to all my devices to make sure they were accessing properly.

The weird thing is that all of the network devices were able to connect and work properly except one laptop.

Dell Lattitude D820
Windows XP Home SP3

The wireless network card seems to be working properly in connecting to the network, as I can type in direct (numeric) IP addresses and see the router and modem, but this machine has no Internet connection. Under LAN & Network connections, there is no internet connection listed. So far, I've tried:

Tried to "Add a Connection" - still not showing an internet connection
Updated the Driver for the 1390 wireless card - now matches Dells most current version

Any ideas?

A:Upgraded home wifi and now laptop has no internet connection

DOH!
I found the setting.

Under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings, I had "Use the following DNS server" checked.
The DNS server changed with the new router.
I updated the DNS server and things are working again - (I could have also used "Obtain DNS server automatically").

Received Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series (Inspiron 3542). Dell (TM) Wireless 1705/1704, Dell Wireless-N 170x + bluetooth 4.0. Placed the laptop in the previous place we had our old Dell Laptop (2 weeks previously). Could not connect to the internet. Turned all security off, on the laptop and the router, no luck.

We had a few occasions when it connected then within a few seconds it disconnected. We took the laptop up to the router (upstairs) and managed within seconds was able to connect to the internet. Took the laptop downstairs to our normal sitting place and it disconnected.

Our previous laptops were Dell and ran Windows 7. My husband nows plugs in a booster and an ethernet cable into the laptop so that he can get a continuous connection in our favourite sitting place. Is it OS 8.1, is it our Hub5, is it the Dell Laptop (drivers, card).

From what I can gather it isnt specifically related to Dell and other laptop brands as well. I have called the British Telecom support line who were helpful but they suggested changing the settings from 5 to 2, it didnt work at all. Dell support may have a fix but will insist I hold on the phone while they run a diagnosis test that takes a long time, meanwhile they get paid per minute.

There are tweeks to try but as I have just bought this laptop I am not happy spending my whole day trying this and that, and find that there isnt a fix.

A:New dell laptop keeps disconnecting from internet

I called Dell support and they changed the adapter properties and changed the range to roaming, aggressive, and other ones on the list. Turned of the power save etc. This was while I had an ethernet connection. Then they connected to the internet and it disconnected so no matter what they tried it didnt work. They said that network cards nowadays are not made for distance but more for speedy transfers. He asked which network card I had in my old Dell laptop, the one that worked in the preferred place to sit. After he could not get the laptop to connect for more than a minute he decided that there were other options. Reinstall the operating system. Change the network card. Or a refund. The first two options seem pointless as the laptop works everywhere else but where we want to use it. Dell did say that the BT Hub5 has caused problems with customers buying dell laptops, maybe the new network cards are not compatible. Who knows. Is there a laptop which a wireless card that will work for both distance and speed. Dell said you had to make a choice between the two.

I work in a small office that has a Windows 7 PC that is being used as a Fileserver.
Using my Mac laptop, I can connect to the Fileserver PC with no problems, but am unable to do so, using a Windows 7 laptop. The problem seems to be that the Fileserver is connected to the WiFi Router via a Switch.

When I create a Network Map, I see this:

My W7 Laptop   =  =  =  =  =   WiFi Router  ______________  Internet

Just recently had an issue with intermittent conectivity to my WIFI router with my Dell XPS Laptop / Windows 7 OS. Started right after some Windows 7 updates. I reverted back and restored to previous settings and the problem would go away for a day +/- and then start up again. Would not even connect to the router and give local connectivity. 3 other laptops, 4 iphones, and 2 ipads had no problems connecting at all. I was out of ideas. While searching I came accross this post on Techguy.org (Thread is now closed) but I wanted to reach out to the @Kazanov and let them know I found out the problem and made some changes to the WIFI router that apparantly has fixed the problem. (3 weeks running with no issues). I will post original post at the end of this post.

To fix the problem I changed the CHANNEL on the WIFI router 'FROM AUTO' 'TO Channel 6'. A friend worked on a military base and managed over 100 wifi connections and he said that many times for a reason unknown to either of us, some laptops would not connect to channel 11,12,or 13 and these are the default channels for a WIFI router set to 'AUTO'. Just wanted to come back and post the solution to the post below. And if the Administrator can open the old thread back up and update it so @Kasanov knows the solution that would be great. Here is the original post by @Kasanov which is the exact same problem, computer, OS as I have:

Hello, first time posting here, after giving up trying to figure this out myself I searched for a good tech support site and found you guys. Anyway, this weekend, I had a strange issue with my router. It showed up on the connections list, but could not be connected to, resulting in a similar error to when the password is incorrect. Once I was able to access the router, or at least get the owner to reset it, it was reachable again, but ever since then I have been being disconnected every 10-30 minutes, sometimes more, sometimes less. I do not have any info on the router, since the situation is kind of complicated. My network adapter in the laptop has been working perfectly for as long as I have had it, so I do not think the issue lies there, but I have not ruled it out. I can run whatever tests can be done from the laptop itself if need be, though may need walking through how to do them, other than that I have little information available to me. Also of note, when I say disconnect, I do not mean that it goes to limited connection, but the connection just drops, and I have to reconnect.

I know the wifi in the laptop works, i know the laptop has no issues.
I know this because i switched my hard drive from my 1330 to this laptop which is also a 1330...connects and works fine.
Wifi IS turned on
In device manager the driver is ok no exclamation marks anywhere

When i try and connect with the ethernet i get identifying no network access, then it says currently connected to unidentified network, no network access! You cannot browse.

So that being said it must be in the setting with windows 7.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver it did not make any difference.
I also tried using a ethernet connection and it would not connect either.
When i use the win 7 trubleshooter it states a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken.

Remeber this laptop functions fine with my hard drive in it with windows xp.

Should i out the windows 7 disc back in...is there a repair function??

Hi Kentuckynet,

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team

In response to your recent query I would suggest you to go the DELL website update the chipset drivers and wireless drivers .You can do it by clicking on the link given below

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19

Once it’s done click on start->Run-> type CMD type the command ipconfig then press enter and check whether you see any numbers in default gateway if you can see that then type the following command ping then the numbers. If you are not able to get reply after you ping might have issues with windows 7 .Please reply back with the findings.

Hi,

I Purchased this Laptop few years back. Now it stopped working suddenly. Am in India right now but when i consulted the Dell Exclusive store here they say its not repairable. Kindly suggest. I never fell down nor got damaged by any external source. I wanted to get it repaired or may be send it back to recycling if possible.

We cannot assist without knowing  why the shop said it's not repairable.
How old is "a few years"?  Any system more than three years old likely isn't worth a major repair such as a replacement system board -- even if a board is available.

This is a low-end system -- if it requires a mainboard change, it's likely not worth the repair, as the shop has told you.

I'm using Windows 7 Beta. My wifi is constantly disconnecting non-stop. I have to use the troubleshoot tool everytime and even now, it still disconnects non-stop. I replicated this problem with default drivers that came with W7 and also downloaded drivers from Intel's site.

I've tried various setups with my router (which have always worked fine in XP and Vista anyway).

I tried WPA / TKIP+AES
WPA2 / TKIP+AES (Auto)
WPA2 / AES

Wireless channel: auto
802.11 Mode: n, g b
Trans Rate: best/auto

I have wifi protection feature disabled and UNnP disabled. Channel width 20 (tried auto 20/40) too.

My router is on my desk, to the right with 3 antennas pointing different directions. My modem is under my desk, to the left on top of my cable box

So far, it seems if I connect to my neighbors unsecured router, I never get disconnected. This aggiates me because I have always used my same router and same 100% exact configuration. I know W7 is just beta, but hoping someone can enlighten me on a temp fix at least. I even tried official Intel drivers from their site too.

So in conclusion it appears to be likely a W7 bug with secured mode routers.

the only way i keep connected is if i am downloading something...

I've had the w/lan module out, cleaned the connectors with electrolube, but booting-up, doesn't recognise w/lan. How do I go about further troubleshooting. I can do quite a bit but 76 year old silvery. Thanks

Using a Dell 9020 MT.
I noticed when I checked out the hardware there is no partition on the C drive that is set aside for a factory reset if/when Windows or something needs to be reset.

I have upgrade from Windows 7 professional to Windows 10 professional.
I have updated all the drivers etc, I have the system where I would want it if it needs to be reset.
What should I do to make a recovery option if/when it is needed.
I have also downloaded : dell-usb-recovery-tool_wjfv2_win_2.0.2.0_a00
I also have a 32GB USB 2.0 drive ready to go.
Thanks in advance for all the input.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer which had windows 8 pre-installed. I was somewhat enjoying it (hating everything about the changes from windows 7) and then my wifi would disconnect every few minutes. I used windows update and installed all new updates (which takes a long time with random wifi disconnects) and it still had no help. I went to the website of the wifi driver and downloaded + installed the most recent drivers. The disconnects became slightly less frequent.
My computer is an Acer AME600-EB388.

I have googled around quite a bit trying to find a solution but none would work for me. I have checked the power settings and made sure they weren't set to shut off.
Please help me.

A:Windows 8 wifi randomly disconnecting

Have you tried using a different wireless channel? The 2.4ghz frequency can be very crowded in some areas which can cause frequent disconnects unless a clear channel is used.

The Xirrus WiFi inspector is good for scanning the wireless landscape in your area so as to make an informed choice on which channel to use.

If you can post a screen shot of the Xirrus read out here I can take a look at it.

Basic issue may well be an OS file corruption issue, as Dell support threw up their hands and suggested a clean Win7 install. Install repair hasn't helped.

Adapter is enabled, but fails to find any networks at all. Complete removal/redetection/reinstall of device makes no difference, nor do latest NIC drivers. Under Manage Wireless Networks, the "Add" and "Adapter properties" buttons do nothing, and under Network and Sharing Center, "Set up a new..." and "Connect to a network" are similarly unresponsive.

If wireless are enabled then perhaps check services.msc for WLAN AutoConfig (automatic - started). Your repair install should have taken care of this though so not very hopeful.

After my upgrade to Windows 10 on my HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook, the Wifi is no longer working ... in the sense that it does not find my Wifi network. I believe, that technically, the dv6t is not supported by HP for Windows 10 but everything thing else seems to work albeit a bit differently at times.  For instance, the WiFi but no longer toggles the WiFi on/off but now turns Airplane mode on/off. In my office I am most always on my wired network so this is not an issue but certainly will be when I am not in the office. The driver is at the latest available (for Windows 7) from HP so I'm not sure this is a driver issue or something else. Any ideas or has anyone else had this issue on a dv6t? I should also mention that Bluetooth no longer works either ... service will not start.

A:Upgraded my DV6 to Windows 10 and now the WiFi does not work

TBiggi1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I had EXACTLY the same problem on my DV6 laptop -- after I upgraded it to Win10.  Despite pushing the WiFi key time after time, it would always stay orange and the WiFi never worked. But ... to fix this, I had to do the "upgrade" again -- and do two things very differently ... 1: Prepare for clean-install:If, after the upgrade, your PC is only partially functioning, that means that the Upgrade did not go well and stuff is still there from the prior OS corrupting the functionality of Win10. You MIGHT be able to fix this by doing a clean-install of Win10. Problem is that a clean-install often does not recognize the prior activation, even though it should. So, you need to do 2( below BEFORE you do the clean-install: 2) Create a file needed to reactivate Win10 after the clean-install BEFORE you do the upgrade, follow these instructions from the community Win10 forums about creating a genuineticket.xml file: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23354-clean-install-windows-10-directly-without-having-upgrade-fi... You will need this later to activate your Win10 pc after the clean-install. NOTE: I did the clean-install, and even though the product-key was SUPPOSED to work to activate Win10, it did not. And, calls to MS about this were wastes of time -- since the MS idiots said I could not activate Win10 with a Win7 product key!! What DID work was using the genuineticket ap... Read more

Hello,

Have you downloaded the driver for Windows 8.1 at the Broadcom site?

If that didn't work, you might want to try the Program Compatibility Assistant and use the Windows 7 Driver, instead of the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

Clueless one here.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 4000 Laptop through an old workplace several years ago and want to connect it to the internet using a 3COM FE575C-3COM 10/100 PCMCIA card with a dongle. The laptop is still set up to connect through a VPN that no longer exits (old workplace went under). and I'm not sure if that's hindering things. That'd be great to erase all settings for that if someone wanted to walk me through it, but that's not the main reason I need help. I am the "admin" and have the "admin" password on the laptop.

First off, the laptop can see the hardware (ethernet card) when I insert it, but the connection is NOT showing up on my Netgear router that is connected to my Comcast Cable Modem (which is currently working on my MAC and how I'm typing here). When I go to set up internet connection on my laptop, I'm pretty clueless as to what to do (obviously not dial-up). I've created about 2 new VPN's, but nothing works. I don't have wireless, but I did have a wireless card that was able to get me onto the internet a few times (presumably mooching bandwidth which I don't want to do), so I know it can work or at least should work with a correct card set-up. I don't know if the hardware I bought is bad, the internet connection is just not set up correctly and/or why my router is not even seeing my second computer.

HELP!

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

Hi All,
I received my brand new Kaby Lake powered Dell XPS 13 9360 a couple of weeks back and I have been suffering from wifi disconnect issues since then. The USB LAN connection works perfectly using the Dell USB C adapter.
I have tried all the standard troubleshooting steps:
1. BIOS and Killer 1535 Wireless Adapter Driver updated to latest version  (including uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless drivers)
2. Updated Windows 10 to the latest anniversary edition
3. Changed Power Saving settings on the Wireless Adapter using Powershell commands as there are no Power management options for the Killer Wireless adapter in Device Manager
(Disable-NetAdapterPowerManagement -Name "Wi-Fi" -NoRestart)
After running the above command I get the status of the relevant power mgmt parameters as below (though not sure if its really effective)
DeviceSleepOnDisconnect : InactiveWakeOnMagicPacket : Disabled
 4. Installed the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 10
Even after running step 1 and then later step,2 the wifi connection used to disconnect after some time (especially when a large file was being downloaded or any high network usage activity). Running a speed test of my broadband connection is a sure way to disconnect from wifi. More importantly this disconnection used to crash the Access Point on my TP-Link WR841N router which caused all my other devices to lose network connection as well and required a Router restart.

Page 33 of the printer's User Guide has information on manually entering your router's SSID, Encryption method, and encryption passphrase. Here is a link to the user guide as an Adobe Acrobat (R) PDF file on the Dell web site.

I have to replace my Sony VAIO that ran Windowns 7 because of the graphic card kicked the bucket. This new Dell laptop "supposed" to be better and faster but there's one problem - it keeps dropping wifi signals.

The Sony with win 7 did drop signals but it was more like a once or twice a day sort of thing. This one, it drops signals every few minutes. Sometimes it comes back on its own in matter of seconds, other times, I have to troubleshoot to bring it back, while the odd times, I just have to sit tight to wait for it to miraculously recover. ***In fact, I finished typing my post a minute ago and when I hit "submit" the wifi dropped and now I am typing a second time.***

We have other wireless devices in the house but none of them has the same issue. The desktop also runs win 10 but it's wired to the network so never a problem.

I don't know much about computers but one thing I know is that nothing else has changed other than a new laptop with a different OS. Is dropping signals a common problem with win 10 or should I blame my computer?

Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7 x64 - no wifi access through my Windstream 2wire router.

Other devices both Mac and PC are still connecting through my router so I'm pretty sure it's in the DELL. Out of warrantee of course.

I can see networks in the "connect to a network" box but when I try to connect to them, it brings up a box that says unable to connect to network. Most of the time the wireless status icon shows 5 unlit bars with an orange dot over them.

The only suggestion from trouble shooter is reset the router by turning it off and on. No go there.

I can connect with ethernet cable with no problem.

I've tried the "flush.bat" and other suggestions in other forums with no success.

My network adapter - Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN - I've updated the driver
it says it's working.

[I'll attach IPCONFIG images.]

I'm sure hoping the smart helpers might get me wifi-ing again.
Thanks...

A:No wifi access Dell Inspiron 1750 Win7 x64 Windstream 2Wire router

Welcome to the forum djbeede.

You appear to be connected both wired and wirelessly here, valid IP for both connections, the ipconfig/all would show me more than just ipconfig. You should unplug the Ethernet when testing the wireless as an Ethernet connection will override a wireless connection most every time.

Do you have any type of third party anti virus software installed on this system?

Have you tried resetting the router using the actual reset button on the side of the router?

I have a 15 month old Dell Optiplex 990 (Core i7 2600 @ 3.4GHZ; 16GB DDR3 Crucial RAM (4 x 4GB); 1TB WDD HDD; 2 x Radeon 6450 Graphics dribing 2 x HP LP3065 displays at 2560 x 1600). Ran fine in Win 7 HP. Upgraded two weeks ago to Win 8 Pro and I get (a) video driver crash/restart after about 20 minutes then intermittently and (b) after about 30 minutes I loose connection to the Internet, even though the connection wizard indicates it's still up.

I have updated the AMD video drivers to the latest release (but not the newest beta) and reinstalled Catalyst control center; updated the System BIOS to A16; removed everything (HW & SW) that fails the compatibility test; swapped the memory around and tried it with only 8GB; run the diagnostics on the system, memory & HDD (no errors reported); Nothing has fixed the problem and I am about out of ideas. I am considering replacing the graphics cards with something from nVidia as well as installing new RAM.

Am I missing anything? Has anyone seen anything like this?

Might have to revert to Windows 7. At least I have a backup of the pre-installed configuration......
