Q: Pavilion dm3t Touchpad

Is there a hardware on-off switch for the touchpad on my notebook. I want to use an external mouse only. Also, the user manual for my machine doesn't seem to match my actual hardware on this topic.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi from senior Joan. My led battery lamp keeps flashing. Is there reason for concern?  I am not charging to 100%. Would this be an adapter issue or does battery need replacing? computer is 4 years old and works fine otherwise. thanks much for any help..

A:HP Pavilion dm3t battery icon shows 99% available (plugged in not charging)

If the power adapter is producing the proper voltage and the battery is not charging, at four years old I would suggest that it's time to replace the battery.

If you know someone who can test the output of the power adapter this would let you know if the problem is with the adapter or the battery.

I have been dealing with this issue and using a wireless mouse for a few months now, since april, to be exact.  I searched the fourums, and saw others that had a similiar issue, but it was resolved by installing a driver. Mine does not seem to be so simple, as my trackpad does not show up on my device list, only my wireless mouse. Tapping the top left corner does not get the light to turn on. I appreciate any help that can be given, and thanks in advance!

The right hand button on my "Synaptics Pointing Device" on my dv3 laptop isn't working. When I click on it, it does nothing. (This is obviously really annoying if, for instance, I want to open another webpage in a new tab versus new window, etc.) The left hand button, however, works, though acts funny when I start up my computer. If I try to use it as soon as it looks like everything is loaded on my computer, it doesn't work properly. Instead it draws boxes on the screen. But if I wait a minute, then the left click works correctly. I am running Vista. I have my touchpad set up for a right hander. If I go to control panel and mouse and try to switch it over to left hand (which I don't want, I was just trying to play around and see if I could get the button to work), my computer freaks out a bit and doesn't let me change it over. The touchpad portion is working just fine.

What's the correct HP Pavilion dv3 model laptop in this list that you have?

Does it have Vista(32-bit) or Vista(64-bit)?

I have covered the touchpad on wife's Pavilion dv5, Win7,  with cardboard to prevent her thumbs dragging on it, messing things up, and resulting in very unladylike language.  She is much happier with her mouse, and of course when she is happy I am happy. Is there a way of disabling the touchpad doable by a fairly computer-illiterate me? Thank you, PS  if I am in the wrong forum, please redirect me. jim

A:Can I disable touchpad on Pavilion dv5?

Hi Jim, On my dv5 there is a button just above the touchpad with an white LED next to it.  If yours is the same, just press the button and the LED should turn a red/orange colour indicating the touchpad is disabled. If this is not the case on your laptop, post back with the full model number ( ie dv5-1130ea ). Best wishes and merry Christmas, DP-K

Took my pavilion m6 into a computer repair shop to get the fan fixed a while ago. After the guy fixed the fan he said there was a windows update which he wasn't able to stop. The touchpad stopped working after that. He assured me he checked the connection and it was all good hardware wise. He said the only reason the touchpad would not be working is because of the windows update. He reset it to a date before any repairs but it still does not work. I've tried reinstalling the driver with no luck. I have no idea what else to try

Hi, Shut down the notebook and disconnect any peripheral devices. Tap away at f8 as you soon as you press the power button to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  When this has loaded, does the touchpad work with Windows running in this mode? To exit Safe Mode, just restart the notebook. Regards, DP-K

I got my new Pavilion 15-ab153nr a couple of months ago. Recently I noticed that there is a gap between the bottom case (where it curves up) and the surface plate. This is right under the touchpad. Don't recall that this was the situation when I took it out of the box. It doesn't appear to run hot. Is this something that I need to worry about? Anybody else notice gaps developing on your Pavilions? Thanks for any input.

A:pavilion 15-ab153nr - Gap in front under touchpad

Welcome to the HP Community @annekas.  I understand that you're concerned about the casing on your HP Pavilion 15-ab153nr Notebook. I would like to advise you on this.  If you click on the following link you'll see a pristine (albeit low-resolution) image of your PC: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04802143.pdf  As you can see there, the casing/housing is flush with the touchpad and there's nothing that's elevating. Based on what you're describing, something is up with your PC hardware (as you well know). For that issue I have no DIY remedy to suggest. I think it's worth contacting our tech support team over here. If you'd like to pursue that option, you can send in the PC for servicing. If this helps, show appreciation for my reply by hitting the ?thumbs up? below, or click the "Accept as Solution" button if I have helped you reach a solution. Thanks for posting and have a nice weekend!

My touchpad was working just fine then I began using a wireless Microsoft mouse at my desk. Then today I thought of trying it out once more and I noticed that my touchpad had stopped working without me noticing when. I have searched online for solutions and all I saw was the fn+f7 solution. On my model, this fn+f7 solution doesn't work, instead that is a shourtcut key to dimming the backlight of my screen. My touchpad has a switch above it which is probably the replacement of that fn+f7 solution. I turned it on and the touchpad was still not responding to my input. I restarted and disconnected the mouse, still no benefit. I checked under device manager "Mice and other pointing devices" and I noticed that the touchpad icon was not there, i.e. the computer was only recognizng the external mouse, not the built in touchpad. I looked under the "uninstall a program" menu and I saw a program called touchpad in there but I don't know why it is not in the device manger. hOW CAN i FIX THIS without having to take my Laptop to HP????

Is this a sign that computers have feelings, because it's appears that when you leave the touchpad for about a month because you are using a mouse, the touchpad stops functioning; it feels that it is no longer needed

Hello dear Support Forum, I got me a new HP Pavilion dm1 about half a year ago and now I encountered my first major issue. At some random times, but mostly when the Netbook is powered on for a longer time, my Keyboard and touchpad suddenly stop to work.Everything else is just fine, programms or copying stuff still work, but I can't input a thing. the mouse just freezes and even the taskmanager won't work anymore. the only button still working is the power button. When I press it shortly it even goes into sleep mode and after awaking it again everything works fine again, but not for long...The more programms I open up or the longer it is powered on, the faster the lock appears. Could it possibly be a heat problem? Oh, and I got an OT question on top of it: It is a dual boot netbook with Windows 7 Home and HP Quick Web preinstalled. Is there a possibility to install Pinguy OS (a Linux Distro) instead of Windows 7 without losing warranty or functionality and still have HP Quick Web? Thank you in advance.Deweini System:HP Pavilion dm1 4100 (sg or eg, I don't remember yet)Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and HP Quick Web4GB RamE-450 Apuno tweaks made

Hi,

I've updated my laptop to Windows 10 and now the touchpad is really slow to react. I've checked the settings and it was set to a medium delay which I've now changed to no delay but it's still doing it. I've checked in device manager and it says the driver software is up to date as well.

It's not the worst problem in the world, I can still use my laptop, it's just a bit annoying.

P.S I've never used a forum before so sorry if I've done anything wrong!

Thanks :-)

A:Problem with touchpad on HP Pavilion after updating to Windows 10

Probably Windows Update replaced the driver with a generic from Microsoft that it is not so compatible. Visit manufacturer's support site, download the touchpad driver and install it. Any Windows version, Vista, 7, 8 or 10 will work on 10.

Hi All; thanks in advance for your help.

I just performed a clean install of Windows 7 on my wife's HP Pavilion dv5140us. (For the record, I'd previously done this operation on an Acer Extensa with none of the issues mentioned below).

My Synaptics touchpad is causing me problems. The issues are twofold. (I know there are countless threads on similar issues, but I've been unable to find one which discusses my precise problem, so forgive me.)

1) If I don't install proper touchpad drivers (ie, I allow Windows to operate the touchpad using standard HID-compliant mouse drivers), the touchpad actually works perfectly. Movement is smooth; scrolling works; buttons function properly, etc.

2) If I install proper drivers for the touchpad, it's unusable. The pointer wildly skips, leaps, and jumps all over the place, no matter how I adjust the settings for sensitivity, speed, palm-protection, etc. It's a crazy mess.

So WHY, you ask, don't I just stick with the MS mouse drivers? Answer: I need to be able to disable the touchpad's "tapping" features. My wife can't stand tapping-enabled touchpads. Somehow, the MS mouse driver provides for tapping functionality... but no obvious way to disable it.

The solution I'm looking for, then, is either:
- A way to make a Synaptics driver work, thus giving me the ability to disable the tapping feature
- OR, a way to disable the tapping feature while using the standard mouse driver, which already does work

Any ideas?

I am helping a friend who has an HP Pavilion dv9700t laptop, with Windows 7 Pro x64 installed. The laptop has been running fine until recently, when the Synaptic touchpad's scrolling ability stopped working. The touchpad has not been exposed to excessive heat or subjected to liquid damage, and no changes have been made to the Synaptic Preferences or the Mouse options in Control Panel. A different driver hasn't been installed over the existing one. He asked me to help him determine why it has stopped working, but I can't figure it out. The only thing I can think of that may have caused both the horizontal and the vertical scrolling to stop working could possibly be a Windows update, but trying to determine which one is the culprit (if any) is almost impossible. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the scrolling options, and I've deleted and reinstalled the driver, but no luck. Should I roll back to a previous version, or try something else?

The driver version is 15.0.17.4 and the Synaptics Touchpad version is V6.3, if that helps at all.

A:HP Pavilion Synaptic Touchpad scrolling stopped working

Hooray! Great news! I figured out what was causing the problems. It turns out that my friend had broken off one of the laptop keys, and in an attempt to get it to remain on the laptop, glued it back on to the keyboard, without telling me. I discovered this when I opened Wordpad to write some notes, only to find the 9 key displaying in an active line, like this: 99999999999999999

The key had been glued so firmly that it was permanently pressing as though someone were holding it down. As a result, the trackpad wouldn't scroll (as the 9 key also doubled as the right arrow key) and the BIOS would remain stuck on the initial boot screen until another key was pressed.

After removing the key, I scraped the dried glue off of it, reattached the plastic switch to the metal brackets on the keyboard so it snapped firmly back into place, and sternly lectured my friend about why superglue and keyboards do not mix.

I have purchase multiple xps 13 and inspiron 13 laptops and observe the same issues.  I tend to use the touch pad with my right hand's index finger, and click the touchpad button with my left hand's index finger.  It's a quick way to get things done.  Many in my organization do this, too and have been running into problems.
However, quite frequently (but not all the time) when I click the button with my left hand the cursor jumps to another location on the screen.  Frequently this is the lower-left corner of the screen, but sometimes it is the upper right, too. This causes different windows to come into focus, or it activates the start menu.  Really , really annoying, and it happens on both laptop models.  Our previous Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and Acer laptops did not have this issue.
I think this has to do with the touch pad thinking that the user has two fingers on the touch pad and moves the cursor thinking the finger jumped around the pad.  Otherwise the gestures and movement of the touchpad is fine.
Is this a known issue to Dell?  It's really aggravating and other users in my organization are complaining as well.  I may need to return the lot (3 XPS 13, 5 Inspiron 13 machines ) and look at different hardware.

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that has issues. Sometimes the touchpad works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed when it doesn't work, the icon in the tray has disappeared or never booted up to begin with. Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it just doesn't even boot up to the tray at all. And at other times, it does.
(Along with this, maybe it's just a coincidence, but I've been working on this for days and days but when the touchpad doesn't work, the keyboard acts up too!) This might have nothing to do with it at all.

I've done a complete reformat of the hard drive, installed Win XP Professional, reinstalled drivers over and over. Been to the Dell website and have all the newest drivers.
When I reinstall the touchpad drivers, it does work once again, but this seems to be short lived.
The laptop is 4 years old...seems strong otherwise, can handle multiple tasks fairly well, has a dual core installed.
I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help?

Thank you!!
Pam

Hello, I tried to upgrade to windows 8 and found that the touchpad became super sensitive and jumpy. Reading online I found a firmware that claimed to fix the issue and found it on HPs Support site. Mid install, it reported that it failed and forced a reboot on the laptop. When it was back up and running I found that the touchpad no longer worked. Its exactly the same issue as in these links: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Touchpad-Not-Working-After-Faile... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Touchpad-Firmware-Failed/td-p/23... I've tried to reflash and to get new drivers but they are not able to go through. The drivers install but don't fix anything. The flashing will quit saying I need drivers first even though I have them.  I've even reformated and put the factory windows 7 image back on but it still will not work. The solutions posted in the above links didnt work for me.  Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

TIA.

Until recently the touchpad used to work with the HP / Synaptic driver. 2 or 3 finger function worked and turn on / off with the orange light worked.  For whatever reason these functions don't work anymore and I don't find a driver on the HP Support site to download and install.

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hi, this is very confused for me. Because the touchpad works, but I couldn't switch off it by the "yellow light". It means the yellow light can not be turn on. How to fix this problem?
