z61t: sound volume is too soft with Windows XP SP3

Q: z61t: sound volume is too soft with Windows XP SP3

I have a problem with the audio device of z61t-9441-a35. After I made a clean installation of Windows XP professional with SP3 patch, I found that the sound volume is too low. The speaker could produce the sound approximately half as lound as before, even the volume indicator in XP's volume control panel had been maximised, so as to the IBM's sound panel and the SoundMax's one. The driver I am using was downloaded from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62855 , which would be the lastest one. I would really appreciated if anyone can help me solving this issue. Many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

A:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

z61t sound from speakers really low? Default windows sounds are almost inaudible and volume and settings are at highest. Playback of other audio like off youtube or itunes are OK but the default sounds are OK. speakers have never been the loudest on the z61t but getting really, really low any ideas? Anyone have similar experiences?

A:z61t sound from speakers really low?

I have experienced this lately, mostly when my laptop is in the docking station. If I open the laptop and increase the volume to the max it then plays more loudly while in the docking station. However, I do think that the volume level when in laptop mode is weak, even when it is cranked to the max.

Hello,
Common complaint, I am working with Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 755, but teh issue is with the System Volume setting. When I go to the audio mixer and do the test and configuration, the SoundMax audio level is loud and clear. The problem is with the Windows system settings somewhere, is there a limiter or cap setting in teh registry that I can set to maximum?

I know that it is not the standard slide bars/levels but somewhere that Windows 7 Professional is cutting the volume on any Windows application. The drivers are fine, if I invoke the card directly it will blast the sound out. But in any application it is too soft.

Thanks

A:Windows 7, sound limit, audio card is loud Windows is soft

As you have a Dell, for proper operation you need to use the Dell supplied driver. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums and we found that non-Dell sound drivers either did not work or did not work correctly.

Here is the Dell Vista sound driver, it will also work with Windows 7 as it is just "Vista improved". It is for both the 32 bit and 64 bit OS versions. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

This is a first step. If its still not working correctly after installing the driver, the next thing is what programs you are using that are "low"? If you click on the speaker icon in the notification area (lower right) you can set the system volume level.

How can I increase the volume on the headphones? Software? Drivers? or do I need a better sound card?

Hey there,

I've tried all the normal things - online troubleshooting through Dell and Windows (running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium), plus updating drivers, uninstall/reinstall device, checking through media software settings (VLC, iTunes) - and cannot seem to figure out why my LEFT speaker is playing at what sounds like 10-20%, versus the RIGHT one playing at 100%. No major update or change predated this issue. Simple Windows Update stuff, but I purposely don't let Windows touch my "manufacter" drivers etc.

Anyone with a clue as to what else I can try?

THANKS!

Also I hear some sort of "disc spinning" or "fan-like sound" that's loud but it's "soft" loud(like a refrigerator/freezer makes a sort of "soft" but loud sound) makes but it's not my fans. I am guessing it could be my hard drive?

Here is a problem I've put up with for YEARS, and I've never seen anyone else ask this question or even seen it addressed anywhere - so here goes:

Is there an AVC program or compandor driver out there to tame windows' wildly varying sound output?

Definition of terms for those unfamiliar or misled:
AVC - NOT VIDEO! In the old days, radios, TVs, etc, had [A]utomatic [V]olume [C]ontrols on them.
COMPANDOR - the backbone of the old AVC systems: it's a combination word made from audio "expander" and audio "compressor".

The problem is that various programs have varying sound output. If I'm watching TV on my system, for instance, I set the sound to some pleasing volume to me. But if I then play a music file, movie or go to some sound site on the net, the sound may come BLARING through on one function, and/or be barely audible on another.

And now after all these years, I'm finally fed up to the teeth with constantly readjusting my volume controls every time I want to hear something - and it's not uncommon for me to have multiple sound sources up where I constantly have to pre-adjust or re-adjust the local sound controls vs. the windows sound control every couple of seconds or minutes. It drives me NUTZ!!!

I find it difficult to believe that I'm the only one on the planet that is bothered by this, and yet I've never been able to find anyone else asking or complaining about it. So I will! ;-)

Does anyone... Read more

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version 6.0.10.505) is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

Thanks,

--Dean

Hello all...
have a big problem - the volume icon in the taskbar has disappeared suddenly. Have been trying to get it back all day! - very frustrating.
However, im still getting sound through my speakers, via itunes and dvd player so thats ok. Streaming audio is not working though, youtube etc. Nothing. Streaming in Quicktime DOES work strangely enough. Also the sounds XP makes (i.e. startup jingle, game sounds) are not working.
Right, ive tried many things before i came here. the obvious ones - control panel, tick box etc i have done. Have googled loads but to no avail. Have tried downloading and replacing a file in system32 folder (the vol icon thingy). no luck.
I was thinking maybe delete sound cards then reinstall when re-booting, only i dont have the driver disk so am scared i wont be able to replace them or they wont reinstall without it.

I think the sound disappeared when i downloaded a plug in to watch a video online. Maybe there was a virus that has corrupted my sound card. (device manager says everythings working normally though)
thats all i can think of that happened -seems like its fairly common problem

I am running XP pro, my laptop is a Compaq Armada M700
I think my sound card is ESS Maestro2E PCI Audio Drive (there are other audio devices listed - video codecs etc)
Not sure theres anything else you need to know.

some help on this matter would be very much appreciated

thanks

Hi all,

Just joined up....
What I want is actually the opposite of what most people are looking for.
I want to install windows 8 on my kids computer but want the volume level to be set at a certain level so the sound is not to high no matter what they do.

I am able to achieve this right now as the desktop is on XP and i have the wave bar set to a certain level so no matter how high they put the volume bar it just stays at a certain level.I have hidden the wave bar so they cannot even get at it by mistake.

The main thing is that I am using a sidewinder X4 keyboard which has the vol+/- so they can easily increase the volume even if I hide the volume tab from the desktop in windows 8, while in XP it remained a certain lvel even if they put it upto 100%.

I have been searching for win 8 mixers where I could maybe have the same type of control as the XP but so far have found nothing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and used

Very helpful threads from others on the same problem I recently encountered, to date. I picked up some useful leads on restoring or re-doing the icon in the sys tray; but is there anyone that knows of way to restore it without the need or having to have the CD rom to do it?

I don't remember if I unticked or unloaded one of the components in that check list among the add/remove programs, but each and every time I go to tick the box under the properties of putting it or showing it up in the notification area it bams me with the message that the volume icon needs to be added to add/remove programs in control panel (oh yeah, but which one and how can I be directed more specifically because as I go there, there's no from that checkpoint, where to go next (?)) The Volume Mixer in Windows 7 is supposed to show applications that are running sound, right? Well, mine shows some applications, like Firefox and Guild Wars 2 and Mozilla Thunderbird and KMPlayer. But it doesn't show volume for other applications that use sound like Winamp and ePSXe (playstation emulator).

I'm playing Final Fantasy VIII on ePSXe and the game doesn't have a volume control itself for, say, music and/or sound effects. And I'd like to be able to turn down the sound on the emulator game so that the game volume doesn't intermingle with my music in the background played by Winamp.

Is there a way I can add these applications to the Volume Mixer? Or, alternatively, is there a freeware/opensource program that will allow me to adjust the volume of individual programs?

I am new here so hopefully I have done everything right. I was going to try to list my system specs here in this thread but I followed the link at the top of this Post New Thread page and filled out my System Specs according to the walkthrough.

Recently I went through a day of torture by an unsuccessful attempt to System Restore. I lost a display driver from some inadvertent deletion in either Sytem Mechanic or some other registry cleanup program. I tried several solutions, then, perhaps prematurely, reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Experiencing further difficulties, I then reinstalled Service Pack 1, which fixed the display problem pretty much. BUT... some sound problems developed:

a) I was no longer able to locate any volume or play control. I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that told me how to install the play control panel through the command prompt from my XP Pro disk. This fixed this problem... But...

b) While I can now control the volume through the sys tray icon and the play control panel, I no longer have this function on my keyboard! I reinstalled the keyboard software from a download site, and the keyboard's shortcut button functions all work BUT NOT the volume control. The mute button works fine, but NOT the volume control buttons (the - and + buttons). They were working fine previous to my reinstalling Windows. I fear that some registry file or setting needs fixing.

c) Lately I have discovered a final and third problem. There is no sound recorder in my files! I find NO sound recorder in my Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment section, nor anything like this by conducting a file search. It seems that this recorder didn't get installed when I reinstalled Windows. Is there a file... Read more

A:No Sound Recorder in Windows XP and Can't Use Volume Control on Keyboard!

Check Device manager and particularly the Keyboard and Sound items. If either have yellow marks or don't agree with what you know to be the correct item, delete all of the listings and ask for a new detection, as you can do there.

Even if there are no apparent problems shown there, delete those two items anyway, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Windows will pick them up again and perhaps you'll get lucky.

Beyond that, be certain that you are supplying the correct drivers for the enhanced keyboard that you apparently have and if you have sound card drivers, supply those instead of letting Windows do a default selection for you. Normally XP does well that way, but you're evidently not a normal case.

Good luck.

I recently bought a dell computer second-hand from my friend, who had XP installed on it. It came with a subwoofer and a set of 4 regular speakers. On it, he had installed a form of creative volume control in addition to windows volume. The way it worked was he had the windows volume set to 100% at all times, and the creative volume control around 3% for regular browsing, 10-25% for gaming and 50% or higher for rocking out with music. I recently acquired windows 7 home premium x64 and upgraded my operating system. My soundblaster card has all the necessary drivers and the audio is all hooked up properly, and the only thing missing is this form of volume control. After looking around for the old software and trying a few different freeware and shareware programs, nothing has pulled through for me; any suggestions?

A:Creative sound card, windows 7 compatible volume control?

What exact sound card do you have?

Have you checked creative's website for additional software that goes along with the driver of your card? Is the windows volume not sufficient for you, or do you just want the extra ability for volume control?

If you installed the creative driver, have you checked in the audio control panel that's built into the driver?

I use mics over Ventrilo, a teamspeak-type program for people to talk. Randomly one day people couldn't hear me; I thought it was my mic. I bought a new one on Newegg and it has the same problem. I used the 'test hardware' app on both, and found that all three mics (both ones plugged into the jack and my mic built into the laptop) can transmit sound but only when I speak really, really close to it... and even then the sound is distorted. I thought at first it was a mic jack issue but the built-in mic has the same problem which suggests otherwise.

Anyone know how I can fix it? Do I have an internal mic volume that's just set to receive only really close sounds, or is something else screwed up?

Thanks.

You can use MS sound recorder for that. Go to the Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. Before recording you need to setup your audio properties to record stereo mix. Good luck!

im trying to make a gameplay video. the sound in the video is really soft. only when the pc sound is set really high, can sound be heard in the video, but still quite soft.

so for proper recording, i want to set the sound even higher, and disconnect the loudspeakers (because it is way too loud). but can it damage any hardware parts? maybe any other recording solutions?

A:fraps: sound recording is soft

Go to control panel \ sound \ Recording

Make sure the volume levels are up high enough and test.

Do this with everything in recording that has a green check mark.

Also, bottom right of your screen, by the time, doubleclick the speaker icon.
Make sure everything is raised, not just the main volume.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72117.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72105.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter.  Hold down the Power button continuously for 20 seconds then release it.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  ... Hi all,

I just got a 5.1 Speakers set.
Anyway, the smart guys that designed the sound card, or drivers, dont let me use all specific jack holes to hook them up.
Instead, they force me to use mic and line out holes to get Center/Woofer and front sounds.
I need headphones and mic at least as often as speakers.

Anyway, I have a splitter device that let me connect both headphones and front speakers, also mic and Center/woofer.
Where can I find a simple application that let me switch from headphones/mic mode to 5.1 speakers mode.
I can write one myself in VB if I get the right direction where to look (Windows API?).

The best solution whould be a simple sys-tray icon that give me a menu to switch from 5.1 to headphones.
That whould set Speakers setup from desktop speakers to 5.1 speakers and mic/front checkbox you can see in C-panel/Sound and Audio device.

Thanks,
Crirus

I would say you are better off getting a new sound card with more ports. Switching liek that shoudl be built into the sound card drivers.

Hello!

I got a new sound card today. Installed it, installed the drivers from the CD, plugged in the headphones and it works. But the sound levels are way to low. I raised the volume in all the places I could find, but it's still a bit low.

Here's the card: Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX Sound Card - Quality 5.1 surround audio

Here are my headphones: Philips - Stereo Headphones Deep bass - SHP2000/97 - Indoor - Headphones - Accessories

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

A:Low volume with new sound card(Creative Sound Blast 5.1 VX)

1. Since you are using a separate sound card and not the on the motherboard audio, disable that in the BIOS. If its enabled it can conflict and cause problems.

Are you plugging into the Speaker jack on the card or do you have it connected to the front panel in the case. If you are connecting to the front panel headphone jack, plug the headphone into the Speaker jack on the card and see if there is any difference.

Try the headphones in a different computer to check the volume level. If its low on another computer then the headphones are the problem.

I freshly reinstalled my windows 7.
before and after the install,
when I watch videos on youtube.com (that's the only example atm),
the videos play great, flawless framerate, no matter the quality.
but they will randomly lockup. pause. only while in fullscreen.
high speed internet, videos have completed downloading, streaming speed isn't the issue.

if i press ESC to the video minimizes to a smaller display and works flawlessly,
if i press full screen again, the video continues flawlessly, untill 5 or 10 seconds later,
no specific time, they may more may not pause again.

no other system annoyances that i can recall.
i tried updating divx, although Ive never had to install those to watch youtube.

any ideas what could cause full screen video lockup?
ESC and a refullscreen instantly solves the issue, but i have to do it a few times throughout some videos.

reinstall java maybe? seems like I had to install java to watch youtube. i forget.

A:full screen youtube video lockup (soft soft)

I would make sure my Java script was OK. Do you run Trend A/V by any chance. This can block Java! What's you broadband speed? Does this happen at all times of the day or only at specific times?

Hi,

I am pretty stumped with this one.

I upgraded my office to windows 7 32bit pro. 10 computers all the same, but one of them has audio issues.

When I play the sample music the volume bar shows the equalizer bouncing like it is sending out audio, but any speakers I plug into it produce no sound.

I have tried: different speakers, different jacks, 4 on the back 1 on the front, updating the audio driver, windows updates, rebooting, and yelling and now I am out of ideas.

When I use a usb based headphone I can get sound.

it lists the default sound device as a S/pdif high definition audio device...
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks.

A:The volume bar shows sound but no sound through speakers.

re: S/pdif high definition audio device

That's the digital output, you won't get any sound with that. Does it show "Speakers" listed in the same Window?

Right click on the Microsoft speaker icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, if you have Speakers listed, single left click on them and select "Set Default".

If you don't have speakers listed, make sure you have a pair of speakers plugged into the light green audio jack in the back then open the playback devices window as above... right click in the middle of the window and enable both "show disconnected/disabled devices".

Any speakers showing up yet?

Ap
