windows installer and service pack 2

Q: windows installer and service pack 2

I have been having problems trying to update my windows xp home to service pack 2, i keep getting the message access denied so i downloaded subinacl.exe but windows installer gives the message could not be accessed. I've downloaded it again but i just get the same message.
Before christmas windows was running on service pack 2 and windows installer was working fine but the i got a malware program called spyware gaurd 2008 and when i did remove it windows wouldn't load in. I had to boot from the windows disc and run the repair option, everything runs fine but some programs (itunes) needs service pack 2.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone.

My OS is XP home edition. And my computer knowledge is fairly basic.

There's two things that are concerning me and any advice or help on either or both would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing is I keep getting a 'Windows Installer' box popping up which says 'preparing to install' when I check my Hotmail emails. This problem began after I had a windows update which turned out to be an upgrade to Service Pack 3, last week. As soon as I've clicked cancel on the Windows Installer box, I get an alert from ZoneAlarm saying Windows Messenger is requesting to access the internet. The first time it happened I just let the installer do what it was trying to as I thought the service pack upgrade had made changes to some settings. But then it happened again as soon as I opened the next email (I only open emails from people who I know like my close friends or family by the way). So I'm presuming there's a problem somewhere? Just to note though, it only happens when I open an email in Hotmail, or if I try to sign into MSN Messenger. It hasn't happened anywhere else.
After trying to look it up on google and searching through a couple of posts on here, I'm still not sure what could be causing this and how to stop it. I've scanned the whole system with AVG and it's all clear. Could it be a problem in the registry or in the update I done? Although I have checked my Windows update history and it says the Service ... Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

When the user tries to login into their laptop whether cabled into our domain network or not, they receive a message "there are currently no logon servers available to service this request".  but if cabled into the network and they wait 5 minutes, they
are able to sign in without issue but it takes 2 to 3 minutes to load the page.  I signed into the laptop with my domain admin account and received the same message as the user, but when we tried cabled in (5 minutes later), i was able to sign in without
issue.  The troubleshooting steps:
1.  Updated the network driver today (still receiving same result)
2.  Re-added the computer to the domain today (still receiving same result)
3.  the event viewer is showing the 5719 NETLOGON message and also 1129 (but the user has been receiving this for a number of months)
4.  The only thing we haven't tried is creating a new user profile but the only reason I don't see that working is because if its happening with my domain admin account it can't be a profile issue.

Any ideas of what could be causing this and is there a fix for it?  I do see there is a hotfix but wasn't sure if we should run it or not.

I bought my cpu in June of 08. I have been having problems. I'm trying to fix them one by one. I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.

Can I forget about 1 or do I need it? Hopefully Service Pack 2 includes all that was in SP1 and more! Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello I hope someone out there can help me.

Firstly I am not computer minded at all so bear with me for sounding a bit thick when it comes to explaining my problem

My computer which runs on windows 7 cannot download the service pack and comes up with the error ffffffff
Ok I have googled this problem to find that I probably have a virus on my system. I run AVG which hasnt found anything.

So I try to download malayware and my system comes up with the message 'your internet settings prevented one or more files from being opened.'

Yesterday I bought a new canon printer and when I loaded the cd to install the software I got the same message up.

I put this message on the forum area about virus's and was given some great advice but it would seem that I dont have a virus so dont know why my computer wont download this service pack.
Also why I cant open the canon software disc???

Please can someone out there help me. Just dont know what to do.

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi,Anti-virus programs can cause interference with the installation of windows updates. It is recommended to disable your AV program prior to installation. Disable AVG..Open the AVG Program. On the Tools menu, click Advanced settings.Click Temporarily disable AVG protection in the menu on the left side.Select the Temporarily disable AVG protection check box, and then click OK.Choose how long you want the protection to be disabled and whether to disable the Firewall as well, and then click Disable real-time protection.Next manually download the installation program from Microsoft.1. I'm not sure if this has been posted or not, but I felt like bringing it up. It seems to me Windows 7 could be a service pack. I have tried the vista sp2 beta and it is nothing like windows 7 7000. One thing that makes me think it might be a service pack is the mojave experiment. I think MS is being sneaky again.

Ex) When I watched the Mojave experiment videos really closely I saw that the calculater in the experiment was like the one in windows 7. I was a little tweaked off because of that-they were showing those people a prettier interface than vista had and calling it vista. I remember updating my computer and then eventually trying sp2 beta looking for the pretty calculator. Where did I find it? Windows 7 7000. I'm not sure what Microsoft showed people in the mojave experiment but it was not vista. I think they are hiding something.

It could be like mass scale mojave.

A:Is windows 7 a service pack?

7 is not a service pack. It is based on the Vista kernel but it is a different OS in it's own right. A service pack is a service pack.

I have been installing all the critical updates for my computer and came across the Service Pack.

When I first installed this (when it first came out) I really had problems with it and luckly I downloaded it in the way that if it didn't work, I could delete it. Well to make a long story short - I ended up having to completely re-install Windows XP. What a chore.

My question to any of you who know - it is safe to download now? Did they make the necessary changes and corrections?
I am really hesitant to download it not knowing.

Thank you.

To install SP3 you have to have either SP1a or SP2 installed. (You do not have to install SP1 or SP1a before installing SP2).
Here is a link for Windows XP SP2. Install this first.
Once done you can install SP3.

Once you have installed SP3 you can install Visual Basic 2010 Express. Which you can download from here.

I was just curious to see if anyone has been experiencing any problems with USB devices when connecting to a Windows 2K system with service pack 3. I have a Delkin Devices Reader-5 and when I plug it into my system, the system hangs for a long time. No error messages come up, but once I access something I can't access anything else. For example, if I go into My Computer I can't access anything or if I even go to my Start menu I cant access anything. I have installed and uninstalled several times but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

A:Windows 2K service pack 3

You might want to see if there is an updated driver from the device maker. When the service packs are installed they can sometimes make significant changes to the computer. Just because a device worked before a Service pack was installed, doesn't necessarily mean it will work without any problems after the update.

Howdy faattat,
Do you run your own firewall? If so, Win XP service pack 2 runs a firewall as well and if it hasn't recognised yours, you might want to close down the firewall from XP in the security settings. I also found popup blocker was a little more trouble than it was worth. Apart from that, few problems. You might want to visit support at Microsoft site for the list of programmes that conflict with SP2 in case you have anything on that list installed on your computer. Also, have you looked at the other forums on SP2 problems?

I have relatively new Pc, everything was runnin smoothly until yesterday. When I downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 2....everything appeared to be running fine, however the service pack told me to download a antivirus software.
So I went onto download.com and installed spybot, which I ran and now I keep on getting the same problem:

When trying to run any program i get the following eror message
" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the Folder Options control panel"
So i tried to go into the control panel and to the folder options and restored the default selection. However this never worked. Now basically everytime i try to run anothing I get this message, the only way to get round it is to right click and to click "run as" (hoever this does not always work)

I though I may have a virus, however once i download the software to check I keep getting the same message, so I am unable to load the virus check properly.

I really have no idea how to fix this......can anyone help me...or point me in the right direction.

When you downloaded/installed, did you opt to save your old files as a back up?

If you did then you may be able to unstall SP2. Look in control panel/add.remove programs, and see if it is in teh list?

I havent personally installed it but this option was on SP1.

I was told by a few people NOT to install it as problems it was causing were new to local IT services, so they had no idea how to fix them becuase it was new to them as well.

I am still running on Windows XP Service Pack 1 because I think I can recall installing the Windows XP Service Pack 2 once before and my system ran too slow or there were issues with that. Programs I need won't allow me to download/install them (Like ok, my brain just froze...the program that allows you to watch video clips, or video clips from a digital camera....the name of it just left me, so sorry) unless I upgrade to Service Pack 2.

What could be some problems that I could experience if I upgrade? Do I have to do that?

What brand and model is the pc. I have yet to see SP2 or SP3 cause issues on a uninfectd pc. Without the new service packs you are wide open to infections

I have been attempting to update to Windows Service Pack 3 on my PC but each time during the installation it errors out and reverses the installation. The first error message that I receive reads "Access Denied." After that messages pop up along the lines of "Installation failed, the installation process will now be reversed" and when it finishes the reversal it says "Windows may not function properly." Each time I start my PC it tries to install Service Pack 3 and this really slows down the functionality of my PC so I've actually limited my automatic updates so that it only notifies me of updates and lets me choose when to download/install them now . Anybody have any ideas as to why I am having this issue? Do I really need to have Service Pack 3?Thank you in advance for your help!

Download SP3 from here and save it to your hard drive:http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windo...ice-pack-3.htmlThen double-click the downloaded file to install it.

 SP4.zip   28.44KB
I found the above entry in the registry of my Windows XP Home edition machine.
Since Service Pack 4 does not exist I am quite perplexed about it.

My OS is an authenticated clean installation Windows XP Home Edition Sp3 that has always been updated using MS Automatic Update. Why then would the registry reference a Service Pack 4?

The full registry entry is included. See SP4.zip attachment.

Any Ideas anyone?

A:Windows XP Service Pack 4 ???

The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP4 is a normal key for XP, it is after all the logical category for "updates after SP3"

For example, see the discussion here:

A:Windows XP Service Pack 2, Please Help

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You have several infections going on in there, one of which is identified as W32.HLLW.Gaobot.AO , which allows a hacker to remotely control a compromised computer. Please disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to alert them to your situation.

Though the Trojans have been identified and can be killed, because of their backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. In all honesty, if this were to be my computer, I would reformat and reinstall Windows XP.

Please read these for more information:

When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so... Read more

Hello! I wanted to install all of the Microsoft updates to my computer. I'm using Windows XP Pro version 2002.
When I try to download, I get the error message, "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Cannot Install. The Product key used to install Microsoft Windows may not be valid."
I've tried several times, both express installation and custom installation.
My computer was built by a co-worker 5-6 years ago. I have no idea how to get ahold of him! Any ideas on getting the necessary downloads? Thanks!! Janice

A:Windows Xp Service Pack 2

It sounds like you copy of XP is not legit. If you do not have a legal version of XP you can not download updates from Microsoft. Your only option that I see is to purchase a legit copy of Windows XP. There are numerous web sites that sell legal copies of XP and many stores you can purchase it at too.

I just found out that it takes 8 hours to download Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, on dial-up.

Just want to know if Microsoft has a place that I can give my mailing address, so the company can send me a CD? The same way I got Service Pack 2.

A:Want to have Windows XP Service Pack 3

It's not officially released yet but I'm sure they will have a way for you to order it through MSAPOC eventually.
