windows installer and service pack 2

Q: windows installer and service pack 2

I have been having problems trying to update my windows xp home to service pack 2, i keep getting the message access denied so i downloaded subinacl.exe but windows installer gives the message could not be accessed. I've downloaded it again but i just get the same message.
Before christmas windows was running on service pack 2 and windows installer was working fine but the i got a malware program called spyware gaurd 2008 and when i did remove it windows wouldn't load in. I had to boot from the windows disc and run the repair option, everything runs fine but some programs (itunes) needs service pack 2.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone.

My OS is XP home edition. And my computer knowledge is fairly basic.

There's two things that are concerning me and any advice or help on either or both would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing is I keep getting a 'Windows Installer' box popping up which says 'preparing to install' when I check my Hotmail emails. This problem began after I had a windows update which turned out to be an upgrade to Service Pack 3, last week. As soon as I've clicked cancel on the Windows Installer box, I get an alert from ZoneAlarm saying Windows Messenger is requesting to access the internet. The first time it happened I just let the installer do what it was trying to as I thought the service pack upgrade had made changes to some settings. But then it happened again as soon as I opened the next email (I only open emails from people who I know like my close friends or family by the way). So I'm presuming there's a problem somewhere? Just to note though, it only happens when I open an email in Hotmail, or if I try to sign into MSN Messenger. It hasn't happened anywhere else.
After trying to look it up on google and searching through a couple of posts on here, I'm still not sure what could be causing this and how to stop it. I've scanned the whole system with AVG and it's all clear. Could it be a problem in the registry or in the update I done? Although I have checked my Windows update history and it says the Service ... Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

When the user tries to login into their laptop whether cabled into our domain network or not, they receive a message "there are currently no logon servers available to service this request".  but if cabled into the network and they wait 5 minutes, they
are able to sign in without issue but it takes 2 to 3 minutes to load the page.  I signed into the laptop with my domain admin account and received the same message as the user, but when we tried cabled in (5 minutes later), i was able to sign in without
issue.  The troubleshooting steps:
1.  Updated the network driver today (still receiving same result)
2.  Re-added the computer to the domain today (still receiving same result)
3.  the event viewer is showing the 5719 NETLOGON message and also 1129 (but the user has been receiving this for a number of months)
4.  The only thing we haven't tried is creating a new user profile but the only reason I don't see that working is because if its happening with my domain admin account it can't be a profile issue.

Any ideas of what could be causing this and is there a fix for it?  I do see there is a hotfix but wasn't sure if we should run it or not.

Hi,
I bought my cpu in June of 08. I have been having problems. I'm trying to fix them one by one. I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.

Can I forget about 1 or do I need it? Hopefully Service Pack 2 includes all that was in SP1 and more! Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Vista will not update from Service Pack 1 to Service Pack 2

Hi,

To recreate the error, I suggest we try these steps to reinstall
SP2.

Step 1: Run the System Update Readiness Tool
====================================
1. Please download the System Update Readiness Tool from the link below according to the System Type:

2. Double click downloaded file to run the System Update Readiness Tool.

Then, let's run System File Checker (SFC) to repair Windows Vista system files.

Step 2: Run System File Checker (SFC) to repair Windows Vista system files
=================================================
1. Click Start, type "cmd" (without the quote) in the Start Search bar, right-click cmd.exe and click run as administrator.

2. Input the following commands and press Enter after each line.

sfc /scannow

Note: There is a SPACE between "SFC" and "/Scannow". This command will take several minutes to complete.

Restart the computer.

Then, I suggest downloading the Standalone Installer and installing it in Clean Boot Mode.

I am currently running Service Pack 1 on my Computer via Windows XP Home. It keeps asking me to install Service Pack 2, but I don't want to because I have heard rumours of people getting graphics problems after that where they have ended up having to re-install their graphics drivers.

Is this true? Or is their any download I can download before hand to have it ready encase of this situation?

Thanks.

A:Windows Service Pack 2

Do you have integrated graphics or an add-on card? I'd doubt that integrated graphics would suffer from what you are describing. If SP2 does cause these problems for you, you could always go to the card manufacturer's site and get the latest drivers. If there ever were such issues I'd safely bet that they have ironed them out by now.

I haven't heard of that personally, but I've just now made the switch to SP2 myself. Nothing broke for me. You can run without SP2 but I wouldn't advise it unless you are using a limited account. I use the limited account exclusively and I use RunAs to give rights to whatever needs it, e.g. programs and games etc..

I have been attempting to update to Windows Service Pack 3 on my PC but each time during the installation it errors out and reverses the installation. The first error message that I receive reads "Access Denied." After that messages pop up along the lines of "Installation failed, the installation process will now be reversed" and when it finishes the reversal it says "Windows may not function properly." Each time I start my PC it tries to install Service Pack 3 and this really slows down the functionality of my PC so I've actually limited my automatic updates so that it only notifies me of updates and lets me choose when to download/install them now . for some reason so I can't uninstall the service pack. I only have folders like C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB820291$

etc
Many of these, I think they are for individual critical updates.

The virus I got was W32.HLLW.Niklas but its strange because the only file sharing program I use is DC++ and that's not listed in the description on symantec website.

Hello I hope someone out there can help me.

Firstly I am not computer minded at all so bear with me for sounding a bit thick when it comes to explaining my problem

My computer which runs on windows 7 cannot download the service pack and comes up with the error ffffffff
Ok I have googled this problem to find that I probably have a virus on my system. I run AVG which hasnt found anything.

So I try to download malayware and my system comes up with the message 'your internet settings prevented one or more files from being opened.'

Yesterday I bought a new canon printer and when I loaded the cd to install the software I got the same message up.

I put this message on the forum area about virus's and was given some great advice but it would seem that I dont have a virus so dont know why my computer wont download this service pack.

Hi,Anti-virus programs can cause interference with the installation of windows updates. It is recommended to disable your AV program prior to installation. Disable AVG..Open the AVG Program. On the Tools menu, click Advanced settings.Click Temporarily disable AVG protection in the menu on the left side.Select the Temporarily disable AVG protection check box, and then click OK.Choose how long you want the protection to be disabled and whether to disable the Firewall as well, and then click Disable real-time protection.Next manually download the installation program from Microsoft.1. Windows 7 SP1 x86 - 32bit version2. Windows 7 SP1 x64 - 64bit versionHope this helps.

It won't be released. Microsoft has released Update 1 though, which is kinda like a service pack. It was released in April 2014, so you should have it already installed.

I was just curious to see if anyone has been experiencing any problems with USB devices when connecting to a Windows 2K system with service pack 3. I have a Delkin Devices Reader-5 and when I plug it into my system, the system hangs for a long time. No error messages come up, but once I access something I can't access anything else. For example, if I go into My Computer I can't access anything or if I even go to my Start menu I cant access anything. I have installed and uninstalled several times but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

A:Windows 2K service pack 3

You might want to see if there is an updated driver from the device maker. When the service packs are installed they can sometimes make significant changes to the computer. Just because a device worked before a Service pack was installed, doesn't necessarily mean it will work without any problems after the update.

Thanks,
James

this link should have what you need
Download Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers from Official Microsoft Download Center

I would suggest that you replace the system with a PC with a supported operating system.

You really need more RAM to be playing intensive games. ! GB is good 2 GB or more is preferable.

This is a computer I got from my mother-in-law, who knows almost nil about computers and virus scans, etc. She was getting this error, I ran Malwarebytes on it and it found 1800 infections and we wiped those out. I continue to get this system error code that tells me that I need to: "Now insert the Windows XP Service Pack 3CD.

Is this a virus? Malware? Malwarebytes comes up with no more infections. A google search does not show any Windows Service pack 3CD.

I keep getting an error message that I need to put in a disk for Windows Service Pack 3 CD.

My inlaws did have this computer and there is no telling what disks they may have inserted trying to get this message to go away.

I did run malwarebytes and while it found over 1300 infected files the first time, each subsequent run has showed no more infections.

Thank you in advance for your help.

What is the exact error message and when do you get it?

Your system files may be getting altered by a virus and Windows File Protection is kicking in is my only guess with the limited info you have given.

HEllo everyone,

I just installed Windows XP home on my computer that is newly built, and then i installed Windows XP service pack 2 from the Microsoft website, and i cannot get ANY of my usb drivers to work. one of the drivers CD for the mother board Said that i had to install Service pack 1 to have usb but when i tried it said i couldn't install that becaue i have service pack 2. Now when i tried to unistall service pack 2 from the control panel, and through the uninstall folder it said:

"system file cannot be specified
service pack 2 was not unistalled"

is there a way to manually reinstall usb drivers, or another way to remove service pack 2.

A:Windows XP service pack 2 USB

USB should be working with SP2. What does Device Manager say? If USB isn't listed in Device Manager, then your USB controller may be disabled in your BIOS.

Microsoft has been trying to help me on this and so far nothing. I down loaded internet explorer 8. I did not care for it so i went into my control panel to delete it, But it would not let me. I than went onto the Microsoft web site to see how to remove it. It said in order to remove explorer 8 i first had to remove Windows XP Service Pack 3. I did that and now i have had all kinds of trouble with my computer. I can not even down load my Lexmark printer and fax. Microsoft has given me so much to do and i still have no SP3. In my control panel it shows SP3 but over to the side were it should have a size is blank. They even sent me a disk so i could install it from the CD. And still Nothing. They had me go into safe mode and try to down load it and still nothing. I have used the disk as well as down loading it from there site. When i do all this there is no error message that pops up. It looks like it goes though all the down loading without errors, Than after i do all this i go in my control panel and the SP3 shows it there, but again on the side were it should have a size of the program is still blank. I use my scanner a lot, Well i guest i should say i did use it a lot, But now i can not. Any kind of help on what or how i can get the service pack 3 back? If you like you are more than welcome to even send me anything to do in my email. It takes Microsoft at lease2 days to get back to you. Thanks to all or anyone who can help me.Mod Edit: Removed email address, protection fr... Read more

In my control panel it shows SP3 but over to the side were it should have a size is blank. There is no problem with this statement. I have XP SP3 listed in Add / Remove and nothing listed on the right side. You do not list exactly where you are looking, but I must assume you mean Add / Remove area -This is a recent reinstall of XP SP2 Pro, and SP3 was added the next day. What do you see if you click Start > Right click My Computer > Properties - Is SP3 shown as installed ??That is my best way of seeing the SP installed. It will show Service Pack 2 or 3 there. What other things make you so sure that you do not have SP3 installed ??Note that you will not install SP3 on a 64bit system, they only have a SP2 to install.Windows XP SP3 is for x86 editions of Windows XP only. The x64 editions of Windows XP were serviced by Windows Server 2003 SP2.Thank You - EDIT - Please read this linked topic belowhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic146857.html

Hi,

I just recently got an update request to download Service Pack 2 for my computer on my Windows Update and I ticked it off to download it. That was two hours ago, and it still hasn't come up for me to install it.

Can anyone give advice on what to do now? I downloaded some security patches this morning and they worked fine.

Thanks.

I have relatively new Pc, everything was runnin smoothly until yesterday. When I downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 2....everything appeared to be running fine, however the service pack told me to download a antivirus software.
So I went onto download.com and installed spybot, which I ran and now I keep on getting the same problem:

When trying to run any program i get the following eror message
" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the Folder Options control panel"
So i tried to go into the control panel and to the folder options and restored the default selection. However this never worked. Now basically everytime i try to run anothing I get this message, the only way to get round it is to right click and to click "run as" (hoever this does not always work)

I though I may have a virus, however once i download the software to check I keep getting the same message, so I am unable to load the virus check properly.

I really have no idea how to fix this......can anyone help me...or point me in the right direction.

Thanks

When you downloaded/installed, did you opt to save your old files as a back up?

If you did then you may be able to unstall SP2. Look in control panel/add.remove programs, and see if it is in teh list?

I havent personally installed it but this option was on SP1.

I was told by a few people NOT to install it as problems it was causing were new to local IT services, so they had no idea how to fix them becuase it was new to them as well.

Came across this with quite a few links in it and as it's given as the solution, perhaps one of them will work for you.

Error code 800B0100 when trying to instal windows update using Windows - Microsoft Answers

From searching, it does seem to be a common problem which MS seem well aware of, given the number of fixes(?)

Anyway, hope one of them works for you.
