windows installer and service pack 2

Q: windows installer and service pack 2

I have been having problems trying to update my windows xp home to service pack 2, i keep getting the message access denied so i downloaded subinacl.exe but windows installer gives the message could not be accessed. I've downloaded it again but i just get the same message.
Before christmas windows was running on service pack 2 and windows installer was working fine but the i got a malware program called spyware gaurd 2008 and when i did remove it windows wouldn't load in. I had to boot from the windows disc and run the repair option, everything runs fine but some programs (itunes) needs service pack 2.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone.

My OS is XP home edition. And my computer knowledge is fairly basic.

There's two things that are concerning me and any advice or help on either or both would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing is I keep getting a 'Windows Installer' box popping up which says 'preparing to install' when I check my Hotmail emails. This problem began after I had a windows update which turned out to be an upgrade to Service Pack 3, last week. As soon as I've clicked cancel on the Windows Installer box, I get an alert from ZoneAlarm saying Windows Messenger is requesting to access the internet. The first time it happened I just let the installer do what it was trying to as I thought the service pack upgrade had made changes to some settings. But then it happened again as soon as I opened the next email (I only open emails from people who I know like my close friends or family by the way). So I'm presuming there's a problem somewhere? Just to note though, it only happens when I open an email in Hotmail, or if I try to sign into MSN Messenger. It hasn't happened anywhere else.
After trying to look it up on google and searching through a couple of posts on here, I'm still not sure what could be causing this and how to stop it. I've scanned the whole system with AVG and it's all clear. Could it be a problem in the registry or in the update I done? Although I have checked my Windows update history and it says the Service ... Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

When the user tries to login into their laptop whether cabled into our domain network or not, they receive a message "there are currently no logon servers available to service this request".  but if cabled into the network and they wait 5 minutes, they
are able to sign in without issue but it takes 2 to 3 minutes to load the page.  I signed into the laptop with my domain admin account and received the same message as the user, but when we tried cabled in (5 minutes later), i was able to sign in without
issue.  The troubleshooting steps:
1.  Updated the network driver today (still receiving same result)
2.  Re-added the computer to the domain today (still receiving same result)
3.  the event viewer is showing the 5719 NETLOGON message and also 1129 (but the user has been receiving this for a number of months)
4.  The only thing we haven't tried is creating a new user profile but the only reason I don't see that working is because if its happening with my domain admin account it can't be a profile issue.

Any ideas of what could be causing this and is there a fix for it?  I do see there is a hotfix but wasn't sure if we should run it or not.

I bought my cpu in June of 08. I have been having problems. I'm trying to fix them one by one. I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.

Can I forget about 1 or do I need it? Hopefully Service Pack 2 includes all that was in SP1 and more! Thanks in advance for your help.

can i get a few opinions, here? i have a few screensavers that i love..and, YES, i check them for ~junk~ (well, i do NOW... )...and i have been trying, also, to make them...well, one....gotta start somewhere...

anyway...i have one particular ss that, once engaged...will NOT go away, unless i turn the puter off..and i have to do that at the tower. needless to say, i'm not using it. and it's an awesome ss...beautiful scenery, etc. i wrote the author, and was told that, in her experience, the service pack 2 did not mix with the active x used in her ss's...and could that be it? well, as it turns out, maybe it is. anyway, she (of course) recommends i "just remove the service pack 2...it doesn't do anything anyway, it's just microsoft pulling yet more wool over your eyes"...yeah, she likes bill, too...

anyone know of another way around this? or SHOULD i just remove the sp2...it sure as heck hasn't stopped me from getting ~junk~...just look in the hjt logs for proof of THAT...(and, yes, the last one DID come from a ss...and i cancelled the installation..too late...never, never, NEVER go to freeze.com!! )

so, may i have your opinions, please? thanx!

A:windows xp~~~service pack 2

My opinion is that the owner of the ss should offer an update that is compatible with SP2. They probably do, but it is in the "paid" version. If that goes no where, then you can always re-install it. In some cases, it will fix the problems. In that case, I would d/l a fresh copy of it from their site.As far as reverting back from SP2, I would find a better reason. I know that it may come out a little mean, but allow me to explain my position. For one, I do not use a screen saver, so it is quite possible that a similar problem is on my computer, but I have just not found it yet Another reason why I would not use that would be because Windows is more secure with SP2. I may not like the way Microsoft does things, but SP2 is becoming quite common, and for a programmer may lose customers from those that already have it. Instead of telling you that there is not a way around it, I would learn how it works and make a patch for it.Just my 2 cents.

Howdy faattat,
Do you run your own firewall? If so, Win XP service pack 2 runs a firewall as well and if it hasn't recognised yours, you might want to close down the firewall from XP in the security settings. I also found popup blocker was a little more trouble than it was worth. Apart from that, few problems. You might want to visit support at Microsoft site for the list of programmes that conflict with SP2 in case you have anything on that list installed on your computer. Also, have you looked at the other forums on SP2 problems?

Your only option that I see is to purchase a legit copy of Windows XP. There are numerous web sites that sell legal copies of XP and many stores you can purchase it at too.

A:Windows XP Service Pack 2, Please Help

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You have several infections going on in there, one of which is identified as W32.HLLW.Gaobot.AO , which allows a hacker to remotely control a compromised computer. Please disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to alert them to your situation.

Though the Trojans have been identified and can be killed, because of their backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. In all honesty, if this were to be my computer, I would reformat and reinstall Windows XP.

Please read these for more information:

Danger: Remote Access Trojans

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so... Read more

I'm not sure if this has been posted or not, but I felt like bringing it up. It seems to me Windows 7 could be a service pack. I have tried the vista sp2 beta and it is nothing like windows 7 7000. One thing that makes me think it might be a service pack is the mojave experiment. I think MS is being sneaky again.

Ex) When I watched the Mojave experiment videos really closely I saw that the calculater in the experiment was like the one in windows 7. I was a little tweaked off because of that-they were showing those people a prettier interface than vista had and calling it vista. I remember updating my computer and then eventually trying sp2 beta looking for the pretty calculator. Where did I find it? Windows 7 7000. I'm not sure what Microsoft showed people in the mojave experiment but it was not vista. I think they are hiding something.

It could be like mass scale mojave.

A:Is windows 7 a service pack?

7 is not a service pack. It is based on the Vista kernel but it is a different OS in it's own right. A service pack is a service pack.

My husband has window xp home edition. He just got it home from the shop after having hard drive replaced. I told him he better check critical updates. Windows Update showed that he had around 40 so we assumed that all the updates were gone because of new hard drive.

He began and stopped with Service Pack one. After it downloaded he restarted his computer but it will not boot up.

Any advice? Thanks

Take it back to the shop and tell them what happened. They formatted and install Xp on your new drive using a disk without the SP-1 on it. At my shop, we put all the updates on before it leaves. It is tough for people to do it on a dialup so we provide the service. I can't believe they didn't do the same.

Windows 8 has, of course, been designed for touch-screen. Therefore, the way I see it, some of the features really do not work as efficiently using the mouse. I know that Microsoft after a time comes out with Service Packs for their operating systems. So here's what I have been thinking. Maybe MS will come out with a Service Pack that will make it easier for those who do not have a touch screen and need to use a mouse. On the other hand, maybe MS doesn't want to make it easy to use a mouse since they want everyone to eventually have a touch screen. Does anyone else have any thought on this--that is about MS coming out with a Service Pack making it easier to use a mouse?

A:Service Pack for Windows 8?

MS has made noises that they may go to a yearly (or so) release cycle for OS updates. Meaning that at the time that an SP1 would come out, it will actually be called Windows 9

When I first turn my pc it has a popup that says install updates for windows. I've let it do it and it comes up and when it's done it says " Service pack 3 installation did not complete"
It don't update. So everytime I get ready to shut my pc down it comes up saying install updates. What can I do? Can I block this function or do I dare? I am getting very tired of it.

I had a virus now I have many quarantined files so I get this little dialogue but its asking for a service pack 1 cd, i only have the original cd. What can I do?

I should mention I don't have any of these folders
for some reason so I can't uninstall the service pack. I only have folders like C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB820291$
Many of these, I think they are for individual critical updates.

The virus I got was W32.HLLW.Niklas but its strange because the only file sharing program I use is DC++ and that's not listed in the description on symantec website.

I have been attempting to update to Windows Service Pack 3 on my PC but each time during the installation it errors out and reverses the installation. The first error message that I receive reads "Access Denied." After that messages pop up along the lines of "Installation failed, the installation process will now be reversed" and when it finishes the reversal it says "Windows may not function properly." Each time I start my PC it tries to install Service Pack 3 and this really slows down the functionality of my PC so I've actually limited my automatic updates so that it only notifies me of updates and lets me choose when to download/install them now . Anybody have any ideas as to why I am having this issue? Do I really need to have Service Pack 3?Thank you in advance for your help!
