Pop up windows not showing up in Internet Explorer or MSN browser

Q: Pop up windows not showing up in Internet Explorer or MSN browser

My mom's computer is running Windows 2000, and we haven't been able to see a pop up window (or new window) at all. When we click on a link to open a new window, the window opens, but it is always blank. Any ideas here?

Preferred Solution: Pop up windows not showing up in Internet Explorer or MSN browser

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to TSF

Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ > File > New Folder and call it HJK , or another name of your choice. Go to this Site and download Hijack This. Install the program into the folder you created then run it. Click Scan. Save the log file to Notepad , then copy and post it back here. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

Hi, I just noticed this problem yesterday, of ads popping up in the left and right corner of my browsers. I uninstalled Google Chrome and Firefox, but now it is in Internet Explorer as well. I tried to run DDS to capture my logs; but my computer has been acting as if it is opening them for 15 minutes now, and the program is now not coming up.

There are several issues that came up when I upgraded to Windows 10. While it is a celebrated and supposedly eye pleasing application, it seems that they have chosen to disregard users and deleted certain preferences from a user's browser.  This makes
it practically impossible for the user to log into several accounts, since every single site requires different types of passwords, and in order for a person to be able to log on to the several accounts, a person would have to carry around a folder with about
100 different account names, user names, passwords, answers to who, what, or where, phone #s & other pertinent information to be able to log onto or recover a lost or forgotten password.I really do not like what Microsoft has done with the new browser.
It looks chick, but to me it's unworkable and a nuisance to use.  If the Cadillac is not broken, why fix it?

Now, while I'm not pointing the finger directly at Windows Internet Explorer 9 which I recently upgraded to from IE8, I do wonder at the coincidence that since doing the upgrade to Windows IE9, everything 'Windows' related seems to be taking forever to load into my laptop.

These include three Mail accounts in Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail [Hotmail], and the latest version of Internet Explorer.

A summary of the browser and mail account details follows, with the loading times highlighted in bold type;
Windows Mail [ 1 account ] - Version 6.0.6000.16586 (Vista_rtm.061101-2205)....takes 70 seconds, plus or minus 5 seconds to load and complete the update functions.

Windows Live Mail 2011 [ 2 accounts - and I'm not talking about going online here.....these are accessed from an Icon in my Task Tray ] - Version 2011 - Build 15.4.3508.1109....takes 90 seconds, plus or minus 10 seconds to load and complete thr update functions.

Windows Internet Explorer 9 - Version 9.0.8112.16421 (Update Version RTM KB982861)....takes 70 seconds, plus or minus 5 seconds to load, but then either freezes for a further 15 to 20 seconds, or indicates that the page needs reloading.
This is all very frustrating, and I'm left wondering if others are experiencing similar problems with the same sort of issues and similar outcomes. I also wonder if there could be some other underlying issues or set-up problems, which may cause the problems with loading that I am experiencing with things Windows.

A:All MS Windows Mail Accounts & Internet Explorer Browser very, very slow in loading.

I have IE9 RTM, Windows Mail, and Windows Live Mail 2009 ver.
I don't have any issues such as yours.

Since you have a Vista Guru badge, I won't bore you with details.

Suggestions :

1. System File check.
2. Disk defrag.
3. Disk cleanup.
4. Optimize performance :

5. Worse comes to worst, uninstall IE9.

My brother having problem with his hp laptop.
Problem is that when he connect his laptop to DSL-internet
then we can see that his pc is on net, but when we open IE8, Opera,
Firefox then it cannot show any internet connection. But via desktop we can see that laptop is on the internet but none of internet browser are on net

Kindly, any one can help that why none of Internet Browser are on net, while you can see via your desktop that laptop is already on the net?

A:None of Internet Browser showing Internet connection

Click Start, Run, Type CMD and then within the CMD Console type 'ping www.google.com'

If the results show Packets sent = 4, Received = 4 then you definatelty have an internet connection established.

If you open Internet Explorer, click on 'Tools' at the right hand side of the screen near the top. Then select Internet Options, then click on the 'Advanced' tab to the right then click on the 'Reset' button which is directly beneath 'Restore Advanced Settings'. Once you have reset your settings you will need to close Internet Explorer then re-open. Let me know if that works!

I've had a couple of problems doing searches in the past few days but most of them seem to be ok now. However, one thing hasn't returned and I know it's not a major problem but I would like to get it back. Previously when I did a search and the various websites are listed, they would show up with the relevant details including telephone numbers and the country flag beside the telephone number which easily showed where the website was based. However, the country flag details are not appearing anymore beside the telephone numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

My wife's laptop antivirus ran out so I've loaded Panda End Point Protection but since installing she has been unable to browse the internet. The laptop is connected to our home wireless network fine and it says it is connected to the internet but when using either IE or Chrome no pages will show stating 'page not available'.

The wireless network and internet server are fine as I am using my laptop to write this with no problems.

I have run an anti-malware with no problems.

The laptop is a HP Compaq running Windows Vista Home Premium.

On start up when checking if Panda has updated it says it was updated on the day you start it, but if you try updating again it says there is a problem with the connection. So don't know if Panda is up-to-date to date or not.

I have tried pinging a website and it gets a repsonse.

I have gone into 'Wireless Network Connection Properties' and if i un-tick PANDA NDIS IM FILTER v it all works fine but this obviously means it is no longer protected?

I'm no computer expert so please try to keep suggestion/instructions relatively simple.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Recently many of the sites that I visit have the empty box with a small red X in it in place for images. At first I thought it was just the site but now it's happening on almost all sites that have a lot of images. I usually have to refresh the page three or four times before they all show up properly. It doesn't to seem to be any specific type of image I cant view. It happens with both JPEGs and GIFs.

So then I thought that it could possibly be my firewall. So I disabled it and refreshed the page again but that didn't work. So I decided to come here and get some help if possible. It is getting very frustrating.

I have been creating a website on my local machine and then viewing it in IE 7. All of the js used to work fine until randomly it no longer works. It's always given me the annoying little bar at the top that says IE blocked some scripts from running but I always used to just tell it to run them anyway and it would work. Now all of a sudden that doesn't work and infact nothing regarding js on the page works. Not even some of the simple text link effects such as bolding on click.

I have tried:
- Reinstalling IE 7
- The website in IE on other computers and it works fine
- Setting the security settings in IE to as low as possible and also just default
- Adding the tag: <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> to the page
- Other browsers on this computer and it worked fine
- Set all settings in IE back to default settings
- Googling for hours

Thanks in advance!

Hello all.
First time here and probably not the last on account of Murphy's Law.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (x64).
I installed IE11 with no problems.
Once completed, I rebooted but could not locate the IE desktop icon.
Inspected the Internet Explorer folder. All files seem to be there including the .exe file. After clicking on this IE11 .exe file, nothing happened.
Checked the Control Panel to ensure IE11 was in fact installed and that it was "activated." All in order.
This is a mystery as I have used previous versions of IE without any problems.
Any attempts, to resolve this glitch, will be appreciated greatly. Cheers.

I have a windows vista premimum loaded laptop with internet explorer 8 installed. Everything was working fine up to a point when i had to reset the internet explorer settings to its default.

Prior to the reset, I was able to add favorites and view the favorites in my address bar asi begin to type the letters. But after the reset, this behaviour stopped.

I have tried the autocomplete path. The address bar and the favorites check box are ticked under tools > options > content > settings. I un-checked clicked ok and checked back again, just to make sure that it gets reset in the registry. But still I cannot get the favorites to display in address bar as I type.

This happened before and I followed a registry tweak which corrected the behavoiur. Unfortunately I cannot find the link anymore and I did not add it to favorite !!. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer Favorites not showing up !!

Ok, Looks like either no has a solution or no one has bothered to reply. Anyways, for the benefit of others who might have faced the same problem, find below the solution that I figured out.

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Content.
Click Settings under Auto Complete
Make sure Address Bar is ticked and so is Favorite.
But most importantly, make sure that "Use Windows Search for better results" is un-ticked.

Click OK and OK again.

Now you will be able to see favourites appearing in the address bar.

Thanks for viewing.

Ok, this question has been asked around many corners of the Internet and these forums and I haven't found a "real" answer so I'm asking it again and hopefully seeking a final resolution to the problem.

When "Protected Mode" is turned On, users are unable to view some folders in the file upload dialog that they can normally view (e.g. under Documents, Pictures, etc.).When viewing the same folders in Explorer running as the same user as the Internet Explorer instance, the missing folders are viewable.Launching Internet Explorer "as an administrator" allows the user to view the missing folders (but this is not recommended due to security concerns).
So far, the workaround that I found was to either run some crazy tool from BleepingComputer called Unhide that resets everything on your system -- this is the sledge hammer-to-thumbtack approach.  Another one was to go into Organize > Folder and
search options > View and uncheck the hide options and select the show radio option.  The last one was to search for the folder in the file upload dialog, right-click the folder, and uncheck Hidden.
None of these, IMHO, are valid solutions to the real problem which is that something is special about this folder that is causing IE in Protected Mode to treat the file as Hidden.
The last "workaround" seems to indicate that the "hidden" file attribute is set for the file, but this doesn't app... Read more

I have audio ads randomly playing in the background, and Internet Explorer is sometimes open (from 1 to 3 copies) in the Task manager. By opening up the Sound Mixer, I noticed that the sound comes from Internet explorer. Sometimes, the name of the Internet Explorer program in the Task manager changes really quickly, and sometimes it stays for a long times on the same website (mostly www.quackit.com or www.pinkmoney.com). Sometimes, I can end Internet Explorer with the "End Task" button, but other times, I have to go to the process and kill it. Sometimes, an hour goes by without a single problem, but sometimes the ads are just a minute apart. Strangely enough, they're in French (my language).
My computer is also slower in general, especially Firefox.
I tried following the instructions in this post, as the problem was quite similar to mine, but to no avail.

Could use some help on how to allow a user to set their default browser permanently even with IE11 being set via Group Policy as the usual default.

For logistical reasons, we are still on IE11 instead of using Edge for our default browser - mostly because our software hasn't been 100% tested with Edge and to avoid overall confusion in having made the jump as a company to Windows 10 recently.

I successfully created a default configuration associations .xml file and it is pushing IE11 as the default.

However, knowing we have some users who would like to use a browser other than IE11 and let it be their default, we're trying to accommodate them while still enforcing the policy in place. Additionally, we don't want to 100% dissuade users from
utilizing Edge, so we haven't tried removing it from public visibility within the OS.  The users in question are local admins on their machines and should, in theory, be allowed that capability.

Any suggestions?

Hello, as the title says I'm having problems to load ads in my browsers and I was hoping I could get some help.
At first with Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge it worked normaly. Then I installed Mozilla Firefox (because is the browser I normaly used before updating) and ads didn't load, they worked just in "Private Mode" but in Edge and Explorer they still worked. So I tried installing Chrome but ads didn't load either in normal or private mode. Then for some reason after installing it, advertisements stopped working in Edge and Explorer too but in Mozilla "Private Mode" they still worked.
Right now I don't have any antivirus installed, just Windows Defender. I had Kaspersky and then I tried Avast Free to see if that was the problem but nothing changed. I'm not running any AdBlocking software as far as i know, and Java and Flash are up to date. Any idea why is this happening?
P.S: Sorry for my bad english haha

Greetings Each. This is my first foray into the realms of Tech Guy, so thanks in advance.
I run Windows XP SP2, with an AMD Sempron 3000+, 512Mb memory, 80Gb HD, with the required DVD/CD peripherals. A few weeks ago, I downloaded Firefox as a browser, and for a long time, I could use Windows Explorer and Firefox. A couple of weeks ago I completely lost the Explorer browser. I have all the bits on the screen, the icon in the tray by the start icon, it's also in the All Programs list when I open it, and I have been into the control panel 'Add & Remove' panel, and all the updates are still there. When I click on the icons for it, I get a little movement from the 'Busy' eggtimer, then nothing. I tried to download IE7, and all the bits on the screen worked, the wizard came up and downloaded the thing, but when I tried to install it, it went thru the motions to the restart instruction, and when I did, it started over again from the start without me doing anything. Has anyone any ideas?? I would appreciate any help I can get. The only icon I get up on the screen after the download is the 'Troubleshooter' icon. Cheers & thanx. Big Jim

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0.26 on Windows XP. For some reason within the past month or so, I can't keep more than one instance of it up. When I try to open another browser, it closes the original. I've tried to look in tools/internet options to see if there was some setting that would correct this but I can't find anything. So am I looking in the wrong place or what do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

I have had it... should be a virus or a trojan...make a complete scan of your system with a good antivirus...(no Norton) test other antiviruses... make an on line scanning... with for example: Panda Antivirus,AVG Antivirus,Avast! or others...
is a souspicious process...

The basic problem is this. Internet Explorer 7, on windows xp professional, is unable to connect to any webpages. This problem is redistricted to only one user account, and stopped affecting the instance Firefox on that same account after I changed the connection settings to Auto-detect proxy settings for this network. This happened after an internet program tried to do a bug san on the computer after my mom opened an email. I was able to get it to stop trying to launch after IE 7 was launch after running malwarebits.

I have attached log files from Hijack this hopefully this will be of help. I attached them to keep the post from looking cluttered.

Thanks for your input.
