Preferred Solution: monitor keeps flicking of line

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good Day
I have a View Sonic G90f 19in monitor and is about 8 or 9 yeasrs old.
I have a Nvidia 8800GTS that is about 2 years old.
Lately I have been having problems with the monitor turning Off and then back On some times once in a while and sometime continuously.really no pattern to when it flicks on and off.
The Drivers are up to date for the V card.
I checked all the connections and everythings seems OK but still problem exist.
Settings are at 1280 x 1024 75 HTz 32 bit color.
I will open the cover and jiggle the V card but not sure if this would do anything.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
thanks

A:Monitor flicking On and Off

If the problem only started recently and the monitor is 9 years old, it's likely it's dying. The only to know for sure is to swap in another monitor and see if it does the same thing.

My monitor is just spazzing out, and I have no idea why. In fact I know it's not the monitor that's the problem because I switched my tower with my brother's tower to see what would happen (using the same monitor), and it works perfectly fine.

Just so you guys have some background...

My computer decided to crash at one point whilst I was playing music and using MSN messenger, not even letting me bring up task manager using ctrl+alt+delete. I had to manually restart the computer, but when the startup screen came up it had a really strange graphics issue where there were sketchy lines running through the screen, and when the DOS-looking screen came up (i.e. when checking if there's anything in the CD drive) all the characters were jumbled and scattered. What's worse, Windows didn't even start up...the screen just stayed blank after the Windows load screen. I attempted Safe Mode and the same thing occurred, so I'm guessing it is a hardware issue?

Just to be sure I tried putting my computer through system recovery with the disk that was provided with the computer, and surprisingly it did take me to Windows...the part where it starts checking for hardware drivers and goes through all the stuff that it does when you recover the system...however when it said it had to test the keyboard and mouse, and the screen may flicker for a few seconds my monitor started off with its very own issue. I waited at least 10 minutes, and it didn't stop.

Hello

I just purchased 2 new hard drives and a new copy of Windows 10 for my desk top set up. I removed my old hard drives and put the new ones in with the intention of installing the operating system. However, when I start up my new system my monitor only displays picture for a couple of minutes before it goes blank and flicks between HDMI and Analog not displaying any picture.

What I have tried:

Using a different brand monitor with a different socket into my graphics card.

Using a different graphics card.

Using different ports for my graphics card in the board.

Removing and cleaning graphics card and RAM.

I even got desperate and changed my system back to what I used a few days ago and my monitor still plays up.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get my picture back?

Sony LCD is about 3 years old. Each time I get on the computer the screen begins flicking quickly, eventually slows and finally stops. As long as I keep the screen active it does not seem to happen. And every so often the screen goes green for a second or two (sometimes blue) and then comes back on when I click the mouse. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a very nice Gateway laptop, three years old, it is a P-Series MG1
with dual core Centrino 2000 mgz CPUs and 4 gigs of RAM and 17 inch screen.

It was dropped once from a short height and ever since there is a permanent black vertical band near the right hand side of the screen. Replacing the LCD
screen will cost $200.

I would like to be able to reduce the amount of the screen that the computer display uses, so that I can narrow it enough to avoid the black vertical band which blocks everything displayed beneath it. My idea is that there may be some way to adjust the display settings to a completely smaller size , to use only the screen only partially. I'd like to be able to just click and drag the desktop to a reduced size , filling to the edge of the blacked out band and no farther.
Do you think there is a way to do this? I am using Windows XP

A:Line on monitor, can I use just half of the monitor for display?

What you can try to do if you dont want to replace the screen now is just hook it up to an external monitor and use it that way until you are ready to replace the screen. If it wont work with another monitor then replacing the screen will take care of the problem.Trying to reduce the settings might work but i dont think its going to be practical enough to be usable to see anything decent.

Don't know if its dying or not, but thats probably not a good sign. Maybe try running different resolutions and refresh rates. Then possibly trying different drivers for your video card and check and see if there is a specific driver for your monitor.

I have a Sony Multiscan G400 Monitor and am working with Windows XP Home. Two days ago, after I closed out a program, a line appeared streching across my monitor, from side to side, about midway down. The line is about 1/4 inch wide and is a light grey (against my darker grey screen) for slightly over halfway across and a dark blue the rest of the way. I've tried cutting off my monitor, cutting off the computer, dragging different windows over the line....nothing helps. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It doesn't cause any problems but is distracting and I'm quite sure shouldn't be there. Thanks SallyC

Ok this may be a little long but PLEASE READ AND give me any sort of answer that any of you may think could be the problem.

I just finished building my computer. Everything runs great with NO problems that cause it to crash or run slow what-so-ever. Keep in mind that EVERYTHING I am using is brand new. BUT the one thing that is DRIVING ME NUTS is this ....a line....but its not really a "LINE" but its straight like a line...but any way. It goes across my monitor (in no specific place...sorta runs from the top of my screen to the bottom...and sometimes from the bottom to the top) BTW its Horizontal if that matters. Ok I have tried every trouble shooting task that has been implanted into my head :

1) Tried 2 brand new graphics cards (Radeon 9600SE & a Radeon 9800Pro)
2) I tried using 3 other monitors...2 brand new ones and an old one.[using all different cables by the way]
3)I took the sound card out. [Booted fine of coarse BUT same problem]

BTW THERE IS NO MAGNET OR SPEAKER ANYWHERE
NEAR MY ROOM (LET ALONE THE COMP OR
MONITOR)

Now I am a pretty new at building computers but do know somewhat of what I'm doing.(Have built 2) Can anyone think of anything I can try to fix this problem? A BIOS setting?I've read the manual in and out several times.

Here are my specs:

Hi everyone.

I have a question, if can please help.

Monitor : L222WS Flatron 22 inch
Graphic Card : 8800 GT
Resolution : 1680x1050

I newly bought this computer and all with it and few days ago every time i started up computer icons on the far left side of monitor are kind of moved more to left, like outside the monitor. I tried to do manual adjustment and that didn't work either. Also the icons are visible behind left black part of the screen (not the darkest black, some dark gray).

2nd problem is that when i put my mouse cursor to that far left side of the monitor and if i slide up and down on the gray area, the black line follows cursor trough all the screen. I managed to solve this problem by changing settings to 1440x900 resolution and then reapply 1680x1050.

If anyone know how to fix this issues i would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

So I have an Acer (ugh) monitor which is a few years old. About two years ago I had a problem where there was a white (semi transparent) line that ran across the monitor about 1/3 of the way down the screen. It appears even on the Acer boot screen (i.e. before it gets video) so it should be a hardware problem with the screen.

It isn't black so it's not dead pixels, and it doesn't seem like stuck pixels either. It's almost like it's the connector at the side of the screen or something? I don't know too much about how precisely LCD monitors work though.

Does anyone have any ideas other than "buy another monitor" or "put up with it"? I'd greatly appreciate some suggestions.

Thanks!

A:Horizontal line on monitor

If you don't want to buy another monitor or put up with it then your only other option is to open the monitor up and look around. I would say its probably not a loose cable(you would have a much more noticeable issue if it were that). It could simply be a electronics failure or even a damaged cable. I believe most Acer monitors have a 3 year warranty.

I have always been wondering why when taking picture of my computer monitor on with my digital camera a line sometimes appear. When recording a video of my monitor on with my digital camera I can see a line scrolling down and then another line scrolling down after that one. I know this happens a lot of stuff but I don't understand why a line appears when looking at it through a digital camera. Without it I can't see any line. I always wondered what it really is so can anyone explain what that line is and why I can't see it without looking at it through my digial camera?

A:Line on Monitor when using Camera

This happens due to a refresh rate issue. Typically with a monitor, they refresh the screen at rates around 75 cycles per second. This is simply too fast for your eyes to see when you look at the monitor. However, with a lower frame rate on a video camera....it is out of phase with the refresh rate on the monitor and it will pick up the scan lines.

Hi guys,

Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks!!

You can have a failing video graphics adapter, or a failing monitor/screen. Best thing to do is trade out monitors first. Then replace the drivers.

Hi All,

Iíve recently bought a brand new Samsung T240 24Ē LCD monitor, and everything was fine when I first connected it to my PC but then about half an hour later a vertical thin bright blue line appeared on the screen.

I checked the cables, trying both VGA and DVI, and I installed and updated software and drivers for the monitor and the computer, but the line stayed put.

The next day, it had disappeared. Then it appeared again at random. THEN for four days, it didnít appear at all so I hoped it had sorted itself out. But today it is back.

It's not a software problem, as the line appears even at POST, and it's not a cable problem, because the "No Signal Input" message displayed when the cable is disconnected also has the line. It doesnít appear on screenshot images.

The monitor is running at native resolution (1920x1200) but the line appears on a non-native resolution as well.

I bought it from Amazon, so Iím hoping thereís a simple solution so that I donít have to go through the hassle of packaging it all back up and arranging for it to be returned. (Lazy, I know)

Any ideas or suggestions would be hugely appreciated! I canít think of what else to try.

Thanks guys!

Sarah

I have no idea how it happened, since I got the monitor from a friend.

I don't know if the problem is software or hardware related.
White seems to cancel the green line out... I don't know what that means software wise. Or maybe I don't understand colors good enough. Maybe the green line disappears over white because white is all colors, I don't know.

It sure would be nice to not have to take it apart to try to fix it.

A:Vertical Line on Monitor display?

Well the first thing is that since it's new it's under warranty so you'll probably be sending or taking it back. Since it shows the same problem on two machines I'd bet on it.

The only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you're running it in it's native resolution and refresh rate.

A:green vertical line on monitor

Make sure that the cable is connected properly on the back of the monitor and the video card. Then try to go to the system BIOS of the PC to see if the green line is apparent. If that is the case the problem is not the video driver. Then try to run the monitor self test to see if the green line will show up. Look for instructions on your manual. If the green line is showing up on the self-test then you have a monitor issue and it needs to be replaced otherwise it is a video card problem and needs to be replaced.

I've have the same problem on my computer screen as well Kimberlylarae! I have a 19" wide screen monitor by Norcent and about a year after purchasing my computer screen, I got this thin yellow line going down the left side of my computer screen, about a quarter inch from the edge of my computer screen. I tried everything myself, including unplugging the screen, to purchasing a graphics card! But, nothing helped! So, I called a friend who owns his own computer shop here in my hometown and he advised me, that its just a glitch in the computer screen and that there is nothing that I can do about it! I was disappointed too, but there was nothing that I could do about it either, except purchasing another computer screen! So, I just put up with it. I'm so use to it now, that it doesn't bother me anymore. But, I'm sorry that I couldn't give you better news, but I hope that helps anyways, in knowing that there are others out there with the same problem!

When I download MapleStory (client on the nexon website), everything downloads perfectly fine and within 2 hours, it'll be finished. Installing it takes time, but it ends up installing everything perfectly fine (including the finishing bits when you run the game).
It runs fine and I can log in and select a server and channel, but the moment it goes to the 'character selection' screen, the whole game starts flicking around and it makes it impossible to click 'back'.
If I select a server with no characters, the images stay fine, but if I go to create a character, the images begin to flick again. (Oblviously has something to do with the characters...but what)?
MapleStory doesn't close or anything, but I can't exit it. I can, but only by the task manager. Just want to know what's going on and if anyone knows how, how to fix the problem.
