Preferred Solution: System Crashes/restarts Tried everything

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I built a system to use as an HTPC the end of last year (not my first) using new parts. Installed Windows and used it for a few months. Sometimes when it would start up (either from cold or a restart) it would power down and hang. The keyboard (connected via USB) lights would glow, but not come on strong like usual and the Num Lock light wouldn't be bright like usual. It was like the keyboard was getting power, but not actually communicating with the computer. Additionally, the TV connected via HDMI wouldn't detect a signal and the hard drive light would never blink. It wouldn't even post.
If I turned it off and on a few times it would work great, sometimes for a few weeks of restarts/shut-downs, without any problems. Then it would do it again. Once the system was up, it was stable.
Then one day I came home and the SSD wouldn't even show up in BIOS. I sent it in for RMA. In the interim I plugged in a regular (platter) HDD and loaded Windows. I don't remember if it happened right away, but soon after it would boot up and within 5-15 minutes it would restart without any warning. I would be in the middle of using it, the screen would go black (no BSOD or anything) and it would go right into POST.
I assumed that the problem was related to the HDD, so I tried to tolerate it, but soon just stopped using the system.
The replacement SSD came earlier this week. Installed Windows and got the same issue with the restarting and about half the time not eve... Read more

Dear community,

For the last month or so, I have been having days where there would be multiple BSODs in a row and I can not even use my laptop properly. Now I don't know enough about computers to be able to fix this problem myself, and that is why I've come here to ask for help.

Today I have been getting multiple BSODs, like:
aswvmm.sys / aswbidsha.sys / ntfs.sys / win32k.sys and wdf0100
And also a lot on 0x00001E / 0x0000007E / 0x00000024 and on 0x0000003B
Each with different messages like SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION or IRQL_NOT LESS OR EQUAL and many more.

After googling a bit and running different memtests, RAM tests, chkdsk, virus scans, malware scans and upgrading my drivers using DriverBooster 4.4, I am still getting blue screens, random crashes or restarts on my laptop. By now I'm at the end of my tries and so I've come here to ask for help.

Not all bluescreens have gotten to a full 100 complete dump, but I have added all 3 minidump files into a zip file, I have attached my system.nfo and I have made a snapshot with Speccy of my computer stats.

My system specs are:
ASUS K55VD laptop
Model number: R500V
Intel Core i7 3610QM @ 2.30 GHZ
RAM 6G DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 4000
2047MB Nvidia GeForce 610M
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit
OS was originally installed on the device (device came with built-in startup repair, no windows disk provided)
Age of OS is 5 years or so (early 2012), this is still the same installation as I first got it, never rein... Read more

Hello, new to the forums and this is my first post, I built a brand new computer for the holidays and it has been working fine. brief run down of hardware would be:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
ASUS M5A99X EVO- Motherboard
Radeon HD 6770- Graphics
AMD FX-6100 - processor
8 GB Patriot G2 DDR2 - Memory
Diablotek 600 Watt- Power.

The computer has been running flawlessly using a 55" tv as a monitor with graphics on ulta for 2 weeks or so, there is barely anything installed on the computer besides necessary programs and 1 or 2 games at the moment. For the 2nd time now the computer has shut down instantly giving no warning, displaying no errors or coming back with any errors after running Windows 7 trouble shooters, the first time the computer had been on all day so I thought maybe over heating. But this second time the computer was only on about 5 minutes and did the same thing, I put a lot of time and is the first computer ive built so I would like to fix it before anything gets damaged but im not sure where to start. BOTH crashes Were during a game but there has been no system changes or installs in the past 2 weeks in which it was already running flawlessly.

Have you looked in event viewer?

Please download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop
Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.
Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left
Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).
Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad

Hi. Today morning I started my PC and just after the start up Windows Explorer crashed and restarted and then did (and does) the same every 10-15 seconds. I googled the problem and did following steps (not in the same order as below) which didn't resolve the issue:

- restarted few times and switched off PC completely;
- tried to fix registry with Vit Registry Fix;
- did SFC /SCANNOW and it finished with information that some issues couldn't be fixed;
- ran Malwerbytes with no malware found;
- did a full Kaspersky Internet Security scan with no viruses found;
- did a clean boot (all non-windows services were not used) and it still crashed;
- did a diagnostic start up (so only basic windows services were used) and it helped;
- I wanted to do a system restore but Windows doesn't have data on any restores, meaning I probably haven't started the service (doesn't it make it automatically?);

Other info:
- system works fine in Safe Mode and diagnostic start up, thus eliminating issue with external applications;
- when in normal mode and crashing I looked at processes appearing and disappearing and found out that at the crash process the file dllhost.exe disappears then and shortly after appears back (it may or may not be relevant);
- I didn't do any major updates yesterday (only updated Steam platform and installed one new game);
- I can't do perfmon /report as in Safe mode it doesn't display anything and in normal mode I don't have enough time to start the applicati... Read more

A:Windows explorer crashes (and restarts) on system start-up.

Just an update - based on my experience with "fixing" the system, I've decided to back up the data and make a fresh installation (no point in loosing more time on trying to resolve the issue but just spend the time on new system and at least enjoy a faster Windows for some time). Funny though that a year ago I had to do the same due to some dll corrupt file (it was much worse then). I really love Microsoft!

P.S. Thanks for reading this thread, if you think you may add something (so in the future if someone looks for info on how to fix it) feel free to add some advice.

Hi this problem has nearly ruined me and cost a fortune so far, first I'll explain the problem about 6 months ago I had a PSU blow out on me, so I replaced it and all was well for a time when the PC would shut down and then restart without even showing a BSOD, at first it was now and then but gradually got worse. At first I thought it might of been the CPU overheating, I also thought that when the PSU blew it caused damage to the MB. So over a period of time I have ended up replacing all the hardware. For a time it seemed okay but the problem soon returned. (just to note it only shuts down when playing or starting games, I can surf the net or play videos etc without a problem).

My next thought was that it was a software conflict so I have ended up rebuilding a second PC, with a new HDD just incase it was a virus etc, I've loaded Windows 7 (home) 32bit, installed the graphics card (GeForce 560 Ti) with latest Nvidia drivers and a Asus sound card. I then installed Minecraft just as a test game and sure enough it crashes.

So I have eliminated the possibility of it being a hardware problem or a software conflict. I then thought it may of been the graphic card drivers so I uninstalled the latest driver and installed a older driver, but the problem remaines.

Whilst trying to check detals of my system, I noticed that the "Windows Experiance Index" score was only 1.0 whereas in the past it's always around 5.something, it shows gaming as 1.0 and Gaming Graphics as 1.0,... Read more

Hi to all, i have a laptop running Windows 7 Professional. The problem is strange and havent had it on any other Windows 7 machine.

If i click the folder icon on the bottom tool bar (windows explorer) then in the left hand pane expand the C drive then right click on any folder it instantly displays a dialog saying Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close, windows is
looking for a fix for this problem (cant remember exact wording) then Explorer.exe restarts. This happens on the local C drive and Network drives.
I though it could be a permissions problem so have taken ownership of all files & folders on the C drive which made no difference, i have removed the laptop from our server / domain and it is still the same / no change.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or offer any ideas on fixing it? the laptop is only a few months old and is i5 / 4GB RAM Dell machine running Windows 7 Pro SP1 office 2003 Pro, checked for virus & adware & all clean.

A:Explorer.exe crashes when righ click on item in left pane on windows explorer nothing in system logs, explorer.exe restarts.

The faulting module (Fault Module Name: SHELL32.dll) shell32.dll is a Windows system file however the file that is actually causing the crash may be a third party file which from the symptoms
may be a third party context menu handler.
The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm
You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.
BTW, the error should be logged in the Event Viewer Application log as a Application Error involving explorer.exe

This happened recently after my sister downloaded something from the internet, and when I opened the folder to transfer it to her flash drive, a notification popped up telling me that, "Windows Explorer has crashed," and then it restarts (not the computer, just explorer. It sort of "refreshes" the desktop), then loads, and then crashes again.

I can still use my laptop normally from adjacent accounts, and when I tried deleting the file (the source of all of this, I'm assuming) it says that I need the permission of my main account, even though this account that I am currently using is also and administrator.

Can someone give me a little help? If there is none to be found I can use this side account for a while until something can be done, but it is incredibly inconvenient.

I am using Windows 7 currently.

I have a system that runs on windows 7 home premium 64bit SP1, its primarily a storage server but also handles time consuming tasks (and some folding while it idles :D ) .

However for a month or two is has been restarting randomly every day or two. (not a clean shut-down from what i can tell).
I log in to check on it or do something and i'm back at the logon screen instead of the lock screen I usually leave it on.

A Look into the event viewer shows the error as the vague "kernal power - The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

This error has been getting on my nerves and I thought I better start heavily looking into it this weekend before it creates worse problems like file-system corruption.

Problem: sometimes the pc simply crash-restarts, no error messages or warnings. Most often happens when playing an on-line computer game, "Eve Online." The screen goes black and the pc re-boots.

A PC Doctor diagnostic test shows my cpu (Athlon 64) failing three tests:

AMD FPU Test
AMD MMX Test
AMD SSE Test

Error Message for above tests (comes up during PC Doctor test): "Virtual Device Driver format in regsistry is invalid." This error message is a windows pop-up box, NOT a PC Doctor result message.

HP Tech Support online chat says the cpu is screwed and needs to be replaced. Anyone have any other opnions? Thx!

How to turn off Automatically Restart

Click Start then right click My Computer choose Properties
Then Advanced tab
Under Startup & Recovery click Settings
Under System failure uncheck Automatically Restart
Click OK.

Now the Error message should stay up so you can read it.

Over heating or Video Card or both is a likely cause.

Hi

First, let me tell you the story... Last year my pc started bsod-ing, and I didn't found the issue, all I was doing then is chaning the cpu maximal speed to 99% for 100% in power options (control panel)...And it worked quite well, maybe a random bsod happened every month...

Now, a while ago it started to bsod and just randomly restart so frequently, and I decided to clean out the dust of everything, and reinstall my OS (win 7)...Here came the big problem...Or more problems at once... but all at installing...

These:

- When clicked "format" in the win7 setup, the pc just freezed 95% of times.
- If I was able to format it, then if freezed or just restarted when it was copying the files from windows dvd...(randomly, sometimes at just around 10%, sometimes around 90% or over... I was once able to install it comletely, but it always restarted when entered the OS after a few minutes....)
- Restart while doing "Completing installation"
- Restart while loading up windows 7 (when I somehow installed it...and after the first restart happened, since then it always restarts when loading up)
- And now, the latest problem occuring... When I enter into the windows 7 setup, it doesn't show my hard drive with the old hdd, and shows 0MB with the new hdd i just bought (brand new WD)

All i tried so far:

- Replacing both RAMs with friends RAMs
- Bought new HDD (It's 100% that the HDD is OK)
- Bought new Mainboard

Things I have tried to resolve this:
- Reinstalling windows
- Replacing power supply
- Replacing graphics card
- Replacing RAM

What should I do next?

All i can recommend is formating the hard drive, doing a fresh install with everything, doing what you already did, and if all else fails, replace the MOBO, sorry about your problem, believe me i know how frustrating failing systems can be. also make sure your hard drive is in good health, try to check voltage settings as well. make sure your bios settings are set to manufacturer's default, and disable ANY kind of overclocking if enabled, that could be the solution as well, i know when i overclocked my p4 from 3.2 to 3.46 i had the crash-restart thing going on whenever a 3d application was launched. best of luck to you buddy my heart goes out to you.

Hello,

I just came back after a few days out, and for some reason my PC cashed several times today.
So my PC will restart (more like crash) after I log-in, it is random, it can crash in a few seconds or a few minutes.

Last time I used my PC, the "5,6,7" keyboard buttons didn't work (Logitech G15), maybe that could help.
( I usually shutdown my PC every time I go to sleep or go out).

I know that the computer crashes because, when I boot I get a screen telling me windows did not shut down correctly and I can use windows normally or with safe mode.

PC specs:
Windows 7 32 bit
nVidia 260 GTX
4 g"b ddr2 ram
Intel E8500 Duo 3.16 GHz
Antivirus:
Avast free + malwarebytes free

I've tried to find solutions for the problem and even:
- Tried to open case, and tighten cables.
- Cool the system down by opening it and leaving it to rest
But I had no luck yet, so I came here.

Help would be highly appreciated :)

Hi,

Whilst playing certain games (Kerbal Space Program/Euro Truck on medium graphics to be precise) I often get the PC completely restart on me without warning. No blue screen, the computer completely crashes to a black screen without shutting down properly (I hear the fans turn off). And a few seconds later it automatically turns itself back on showing the screen that lets you know it had recovered from an unexpected shut down/didn't shut down properly (Start in Safe Mode/Normally etc.).

I don't think it is a problem with over heating (but knowing me, I'm probably wrong on this) as it shows the CPU to be running at about 70 degrees Fahrenheit after the crash (I'v included the cooling system below).

I can also play the game Warframe on high graphics for hours on end with no crash nor performance drop.

I have Windows 7 as an OS.

Recently I upgraded from an Intel duo core 2.33 Ghz processor on a Fatality FP-IN9 SLI motherboard (running 2x4GB DDR2 RAM), to an Intel i5 quad core 3.4 Ghz on an Asus Z87-K motherboard (with 2x 8GB DDR3 RAM).

I cool the CPU with a Corsair H100i water cooling system (both fans on the radiator spin, and the corsair logo lights up, I'm guessing showing that).

I use an Nvidia G-force 650Ti graphics card (as I did with the old motherboard) and have updated the drivers.

I have installed a Corsair CM750M (750W) PSU in place of the CoreXStream 500W one that I used with the previous motherboard and am still getting the restarts. ... Read more

I guess another thing to mention is that it never crashes outside of playing a game, nor did it crash on the old motherboard.

Hello and welcome loprik mate the info is in Hebrew if I am not mistaken so cannot make out anything in msinfo.

You have a load of unnecessary software on that machine - get rid of
AVG ANTI VIRUS

Spyhunter 4-bettter than emmisoft malewares
regcure pro
advanced systemcare 8 - usually crap ware that promise the earth and eliver grief.

Do this for starters
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

if no go then these

http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

Now if you have had a BSOD then you need to follow these
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD then
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

hopefully the dump files will still be there unless you have had a real good clear out.

A problem had developed where when trying to use windows movie maker, way towards the end of saving a project, computer would crash and restart.

I stopped using WMM and didn't seem to have a problem with anything else. The same thing started happening with some other .avi to dvd programs.

But now recently, I noticed that when I try to do a McAfee virus scan, it crashes 1-2 hrs later, just prior to completion. System crashes and restarts.
This I need to correct, now that it is interfering with security.

I do have and run Malewarebytes Anti-Malware and Webroot SpySweeper, and I haven't had a problem with them yet.

I do have and run CCleaner frequently. I also run Disk Cleanup and the IE cleanup in the control panel frequently.

I keep the computer updated with microsoft. I believe that all of my drivers are well maintained as well.

How can I tell what is causing this condition?

Please keep in mind that I am from an older, non technical generation, and that these steps that are easy and second nature for you are major accomplishments for me. Some times the terms and language that you use everyday are like me learning a second language. But I am trying to learn.

Thank You

A good place to look is Event Viewer. You want errors, not information items or warnings. How To Use Event Viewer - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/40108/how-to-use-event-viewer/ The fact that McAfee crashes is nothing new...any program can crash at any time because of damaged files which prevent it from its specified tasks. Generally, the system can provide no warning when an installed program has damaged files. The easy attempt to correct...uninstall said program, then reinstall and update/run same.Louis

Product code is 10B60023AU
It's around 3 months old, Started crashing every now and then (no blue screen of death) just on one moment and off the next.
Crashes started to get a lot more frequent (like 4 times an hour - sometimes).
Isolation tests, different monitors etc (made no difference)
So - did complete software re-image. (made no difference)
It's fully up to date and checked with the solution centre (detailed tests - no faults found)

So - took it in for warranty service, diagnosed graphics card fault and replaced the motherboard. Great I think.
That was yesterday, this morning (same thing - 4 crashes in less than an hour)

So - unless I drag this all the way back into the city for another 3 day holiday does anyone have an ideas ? Any known issues with these machines ?

TIA

A:M73 SFF - crashes and restarts randomly

I personally have a M73 SFF, and it's been solid as a rock (other than a problem with the Lenovo-supplied graphics driver, fixed by installing the driver downloaded from Intel), I don't know of any other issues.

When you say it's " just on one moment and off the next."   Do you mean it powers off by itself?

More information would be helpful (please read the 'help us to help you' sticky thread.)

This problem occurs when I play video games, occasionally when I'm not!

My Specs:
FX8350 4.0 ghz
12 gb of ram
CX 750 watt Corsair power supply
R9 290 Radeon Sapphire 4gb graphics card.
M5A 78L-MLX Plus motherboard.
Have three fans, two at the front, one at the back built in with my liquid cooling for my CPU.
I keep the case open, for air flow reasons.

Could someone specify a cause for the unexpected restarts/crashes, it's persistent!?

A:PC unexpectedly crashes/restarts?

OK, I see a number of issues here;
1 CX pw supply. The cx line from corsair is for a basic build ONLY. It is not intended for any type of gaming and or overclocking. Using a cx in a gaming system is just asking for a problem.
2 Your mb. Again this is for a basic build and NOT a gaming system. Asus boards that are intended for gaming have the 990fx chipset, heavy duty VRs [voltage regulators] heavy duty capacitors, and better chipset cooling.
3
I keep the case open, for air flow reasons. Click to expand...

This is a mistake. If you have to leave the case open, you have an airflow problem, cooling problem, etc.

You have an asus mb so download and install asus probe. Here is a link to the support page for your mb;
http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX_PLUS/HelpDesk_Download/

Probe is under the utilities section of the downloads. Post the following info; cpu temp, system temp, 12V, 5V, and 3.3V values. Post this twice; once while at idle or no load and once when stress testing ie running prime95 or IBT.

Have you run memtest? If not, do so. Run it for a minimum of 1hr to see if you have any errors.

Have you tried pulling out your video card and running the onboard video that is part of that mb? If not, I would do that as well.

I have restarted my device at least ten times now, and each consecutive time, it loads and I can sign in with my password, but seconds later, it crashes with a staticky crash screen, forcing me to manually turn it off. I have only had this device since Christmas, and this issue had occured numerous times (in such instances where I have been working without issue, only for it to crash abruptly).

A:Restarts fine, then crashes

Hi,Well it can be: operating system, drivers, hard drive or memory module issue.Tap away F2 key as soon as you power on laptop, do extensive hard drive and memory tests. Hello all,

So I'll get right down to the pertinent details and try to be as clear and concise as I can.

This is the first computer I have attempted to build on my own without semi-professional help. I bought all the parts and assembled them, and through much toil, sweat, and troubleshooting, my creation came to life. (I got Windows 7 installed and booting.)

I have had what I believe to be several separate issues that I have resolved one at a time, until this last and glaring problem of random restarts. I will be playing a game, or doing some other task on the computer and the screen will black for an instant and then present me with multicolored scrambles and the audio will stutter on a loop of the last sound. (duration ~.3 sec) The computer will then reboot.

I do have auto restarts disabled, but it usually does not present a blue screen or create a minidump. I have gotten to a blue screen occasionally and gotten a dump out of it and they are attached. All I get out of the Event Viewer is Kernel Error 41 bugcheckcode 0.

Let me tell you what I have done:

Made sure all of my drivers were up to date. (using driver cleaners to make sure the old ones were out)
Up to date BIOS.
Disabled the AMD power save equivalent on the processor. (Cool&Quiet, I think) I had heard this could sometimes cause trouble.
Scanned for viruses and malware.
Ran the memory through 20 memtest extensive cycles, no errors.
Ran checkdisk several times, no problems.
Ran sfc ... Read more

At first I was looking around for answer.. But now I'm going to ask it.
OK.. The computer fans and interior are clean. I put thermal paste on CPU. And that did not work. The problem I am having is randomly why im doing something, the computer will crash in one of 3 ways. I'll here it make the sound as if it shut down, but i can still do stuff on the computer for like 10 more seconds.(It sounds like it restarted). Other way is it will just go black screen and the computer wont restart but it will stay on, and the red light on the front pannel will just glow red steadally.. and it wont do anything after that, i have to hold power button to shut it off. And last way is that it will just restart it self.(black screen then reboot).
I dont know what to check realy. But i checked CPU and it stays around 45 - 55 C.
So not overheating. But I know when it might crash.. Randomly the screen willl have a little flicker go across the screen. little faded black line go across. But if u have questions for me i try best to answer. Besides that, this is all that i can provide off top of head. Also if i just leave it at desktop doing nothing it wont crash.

We need your system specs including make and model of your motherboard, make, type, and amount of RAM installed, video card, psu make and rated wattage output, etc.

We need to know your security software.

How old is your system? Have changed any of the hardware or installed any software recently? What are parameters of your cpu for temperature?

Are all your fans working, i.e., case, cpu, video card, etc.? What is the system temps?

Do you get any Blue Screens when it crashes and if so what are the error codes?

Good morning,

So the build I have is not even 3 years old, and it is starting to have some problems. I use it primarily for work and gaming.

I don't remember when it first happened, but it was just an out of the blue hard reset while I was in the middle of a game. It happened the same way a few more times after that, then I had a decent amount time with nothing out of the ordinary. Then a few days ago it started up again. This time it will just shut off. When I try and power it back up the button does not respond and I have to physically unplug then replug the power cord for the button to register. During these sporadic shut downs I have still had some of the random resets too. Lately they have even offered to do the "start-up repair" which I allowed. 9hrs later it told me it could not be repaired.

If I had to pinpoint the cause, I would have to say it is when I am gaming (lately it has been triggering with Overwatch within 3 minutes) but it is strange because I seem to be able to play Witcher 3 for hours without interruption, which to me is a more hardware demanding game. I also can leave it idle all day/night and be on the web all day without error.

I appreciate anyone time and responses and home we can find some answers! I will leave my DxDiag below.

Thank you,

Kyle

Hello,

I?ve installed Windows 7 64 bits, and I'm getting crashes with BSOD, or just restarts, or sometimes the system just hangs and I have to force a hard reset of the system (i.e. shutdown and start again). They happen at the frequency of about 1 per hour on average, and completely randomly: listening to internet radios, watching youtube videos, playing some mp3, watching a movie, copying files..., even when the system has been completely idle.

I reinstalled the system 3 times. Right now I just got a new fresh installation, plus the Realtek audio drivers 6.0.1.5898 and the ATI Catalyst Control Center 9.11, plus the Adobe Flash Player. But as far as I?ve seen, the problem still remains.

I also run the memory test of Windows 7, but the result was ok. On top of that I checked the temperatures of the system and the CPU and they've been always below 40?C.

I?m not very skilled at computers but in general I like to build my on equipments, and I always managed to figure out the typical problems. However, this time I?m completely lost because of the complete random nature of the problem. Could you help me to find out which is the problem?

I run Xmarks within FireFox, I thought this was the problem because Xmarks as of yesterday asks me every 40 seconds if I want to sync my bookmarks, if I choose cancel, Windows Explorer will crash then restart.

When Firefox is closed, Explorer continues to crash and restart, almost every 30-35 seconds. I have Windows 8.1 up to date, with all the latest updates, FireFox is up to date. As of writting this post, Windows Explorer has crashed and restarted (5) times.

Hey, I'm running Windows xp professional, and I recently upgraded the hardware in my computer. After this upgrade my computer would infrequently just restart, about once a week or so, but I left for a trip to vancouver for a week and when I got back and turned my computer on the problem started getting much worse. Now it happens about ten times a day, and I can't just leave it off because I don't have another computer and I need this one for classes. Also, when I try to play games it shuts down, or freezes about ten minutes after I start. I have run AVG, Spybot, and ad-aware, and the problem remains. This problem seems to be completely random, sometimes it happens while I'm doing something, and sometimes it happens when the computer is doing nothing. Here are my specs.

Nvidia 790i Ultra SLI motherboard
Intel Core 2 duo 3.16 GHz
4 gigs ddr3 ram
Gforce 8800 GTS
Corsair hx1000w modular power supply

Any help would be appreciated, this problem is very annoying.

Is there anyway to find out whats causing this?

I've run AV scans (malware bytes, + windows defender), nothing was found.

A:Frequent explorer.exe crashes and restarts.

Schedule a disk check: open cmd window and type chkdsk /f

Open cmd window and type sfc /scannow
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
