ASRock z77 Extreme 6 SATA and parition help needed.

Q: ASRock z77 Extreme 6 SATA and parition help needed.

Hi guys,

I have an ASRock z77 Extreme6 motherboard. I am trying to connect four hard drives, and partition and install Windows 8 x64. The drives I will be using are Samsung Evo 250gb, OCZ Vertex 4 128gb, OCZ Solid 3 60gb, and a Hitachi 750gb spinner. I would like to use the Samsung as the C:\ drive, Vertex 4 as the D:\ drive, Solid 3 as the E:\ drive, and the Hitachi as the F:\ drive. Well, at least have the drives in that order. So, I connected the Samsung and the Vertex 4 to the Intel SATA 3 ports which are the second set of grey SATA ports. Then, I have the OCZ Solid 3 and the Hitachi spinner connected to the first set of grey SATA 3 ports. When I went to install Windows 8 the partitions were listed in the fallowing order.
Hitachi spinner
OCZ Solid 3
OCZ Vertex 4
Samsung EVO
In the manual for the motherboard it says to make sure the boot drives are connected to the Intel SATA 3 ports. Which I did. I used the Samsung and the Vertex 4. I then went down to the Samsung and partitioned it in UEFI format. Next I partitioned the Vertex 4. Then, the Solid 3 and the Hitachi. I highlighted the Samsung drive and clicked install. Once in Windows the Samsung was my C:\ drive but the other drives where out of order. Therefore, I went into disk management and assigned the drives the drive letters I wanted them to have. Therefore, the drives are now in the order I wanted them in that I listed above. I find it pretty weird that if the Intel SATA 3 ports are suppose to be used for your boot devices why are they not the first SATA 3 ports on the motherboard? That way when you install the drives they will be in the correct order. What I am trying to figure out is did I handle this situation correctly? Will I run into any issues by doing this, and is this how I should of done it?

Thank you,

Preferred Solution: ASRock z77 Extreme 6 SATA and parition help needed.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed a new Seagate HDD. Windows 10 sees it as a removable drive. Below are screen shots:

1. HDD seen as removable drive

2. HDD is ejected and now Windows 10 does not see HDD ST2000DM006

Is there a way to disable AsMedia ?

BIOS is set as: ASMedia SATA3 Mode AHCI. The only options are Disable, IDE or AHCI.

No Hot Swap is available. Any guidance would be helpful.

Hello everyone, this is my first build and everything went fine until I try installing windows 7. So for me it gets past the starting windows screen and then it freezes on the setting your language and country screen. There is also no way out of this and I had to turn the computer off. Then I tried installing the CD that came with the mother board. It then say saying generate serial ATA driver Diskette? [Y/N]. At first I said yes and what came up was a screen that said the supported drive was not found: Floppy 1.44mb and USB drive! If I press no it just asks me to reboot. I have looked for solutions to this and haven't come across any that worked.

A:Problem with windows 7 install and Asrock drivers install on Asrock z77 extreme 4

hi there:

complete specs on your system would help. troubleshooting a custom-build computer system that has thousands of different makes/models of components can be tricky to say the least.

You should download and run SPECCY, and post the report here.

Check your cables that they are in place and secure, and all your connections to the hard drive and your RAM modules are seated correctly.

Are you using a Microsoft Windows7 licensed cd or a copy you borrowed from a friend?

Have you tested your hard drive? Is it new in anti-static bag when you got it? Or is it used from an older system you had?

If you have a spare SATA hard drive, you can swap out with your existing SATA drive and try your Win7 load again. If it fails, you could have a Motherboard, RAM, or cable connection problem.

Answering some of these questions and posting your specs will help us to help you!

Hey guys, I wanna buy one of those cards for my i5 3570k and I couldn't decide on which to buy. I want to OC some also so I be happy if u help me to decide.

A:Asrock z77 Extreme 3 vs Asrock z77 Pro 3

Those are not "cards", they are motherboards. GPUs are referred to as "cards". The extreme 3 is more gamer oriented because it allows for a 2nd GPU to be inserted. The Pro 3 uses different capacitors I think. The Pro 3 has the consumer/professional in mind and the Extreme 3 has the gamer in mind.

Little info on asrock z77 extreme 4:

Slots: - 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE3: single at x16 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE3) or dual at x8/x8 mode)
Supports NVIDIA? SLI?

If i run 1 GTX 660 in the main pcie slot and i add another one for SLI, does the processing power or transfer rate of both cards get cut because they will run at x8?

i have an i7-3770K, a gtx 660 and asrock z77 ext4

Thanks in advance guys.

A:gtx 660 SLI on asrock z77 extreme 4

In terms of performance, adding a second GTX 660 to your system will only boost by about 90% graphics performance.

The cards processing power or transfer rate won't get "cutted". They will simply work as a regular SLI configuration.

Keep getting BSOD if I shut down the system for the day, switched on the next day. Always get STOP 0x0000000E error and then restart a few times, can go into Windows. Strange. Subsequent reboot does not cause this problem.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x64 MSDN version
- New hardware and New system

I suspect is the Linksys Wireless G USB network adapter. Need help in verifying.

A:AMD Asrock 890gx Extreme 3 Issue

There are between 45 and 60 hotfixes available for Windows 7. Your systeminfo report only shows 10 installed. Please visit Windows Update immediately and get the rest of the updates.

Wireless USB adapters have a lot of issues with Win7, particularly if Vista drivers are used. I recommend a wifi card that installs on your motherboard as they are more powerful and more reliable than the USB devices.

Unfortunately, the Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following (this will not affect the analysis of the current files - but it may help later files that are acquired):
- activate/validate the Windows installation at Genuine Microsoft Software
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( Windows 7 Solution Center )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds (if this is the case we may never find a fix)

Will post back after the dump files finish running....

Hello all,
I did something very stupid recently. I flashed my BIOS to fix mouse stuttering issues but used the Gen4 BIOS version 2.10. I was able to clear the CMOS and use the instant flash to restore the BIOS back the most recent Gen3 BIOS 1.10.

When I start the computer it shows the BIOS version is 1.10, but all of my SATA ports show as "not detected". I changed the SATA controller settings back to their defaults (IDE), but still no luck. I checked and all of the SATA connectors are still clicked firmly in place.

Any ideas?Thanks

A:Asrock Extreme 4 Gen3 BIOS Problems

I am not familiar with asrock boards. When you say you used the instant flash to restore the bios did you actually flash the bios with the original bios file or is this some type of auto recovery?

If you are able to flash the bios, I would reflash to the latest correct bios for your mb. Once done, restart and enter the bios. Load defaults or whatever asrock calls it and again restart. Enter the bios and make any custom settings you need ie sata mode, boot order, etc.

Hi I'm a new member.

I recently decided to build my first PC

Parts were:
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 MoBo
Intel i5 3570K - LGA 1155
DDR3 Single stick 8GB G-Skill 1600
GeForce GTX 660 2GD5/OC
Seagate Barracuder SATA 3 1TB
875w PSU

Now for the problem,

I installed everything correctly and got to POST so I decided to follow most Internet forum instructions to update my BIOS so I did so over the Internet flash update from the AsRock BIOS setup

The problems arose after trying to update it via the Internet. Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor, the fans for ten graphics card CPU and chassis all work, the PSU is working fine. But the Dr. Debug is showing the status code 00 which states in the description is that it is "not used"

I don't know what to do, iv taken out the graphics card and tried still the same disconnected everything except the 1155 socket and all pins are fine on the PCIe slots and RAM

Any help would be appreciated

I have a spare Gigabyte gt 630 2GB hanging round and was wondering if I can get the MoBo to work will it be worth sticking the 630 in with the 660 for any improvements however slight until I can afford another 660 for SLI?

A:Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 - BIOS update error

"Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor" You might be able to get the motherboard to respond by removing the battery for a few minutes. If not, the motherboard may need to be replaced

We have two boards:

*Mine. First P67 Extreme 4 B3 buyed on May 2011. BSODS FIRST DAYS.

8 Gb Gskill 1600 Mhz Ripjaws X (for problems Space with my big Cooler Zalman Extreme CNPSQ10 need change to 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 Mhz) , Ati 6870, Ocz Zx 1250W, Seagate 1 Tb 7200.12 with Windows 7 64 bits + Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and old Maxtor Serial Ata 200Gb with Installed Osx Lion.

I investigated bios options: Option very suspect in Storage configurations: "Sata Aggressive link power management" ....

Look on google in May 2011, a lot of people with BSOD with this option active on Bios.

I disabled this option and never more BSOD.
*Now with my brother computer update:

He buyed Asrock Z68 Pro 3 Gen 3 with other I7-2600, 4Gb Kistong 2000 Mhz (in Sandybridge only work max at 1833 Mhz), Nox Urano II power supply, Geforce Gtx460, Ocz Vertex 4 SSd, Seagate 1Tb 7200.12 second hard disk, Windows 7 64 Bits Ultimate and Osx 10.8.0 Mountain Lion installed on SSd Vertex 4 Hard Disk.

Update bios to last, very nice options and improve great this motherboard. Disable ""Sata Aggressive link power management" .... NO BSODS.

Computers tested with Stability Tests: Aida 64 Stability Tests, Prime 95, CCOP Perestroika, Performance Test, 3DMarks all collection, Memtest... ALL TEST PAST, NO PROBLEMS, NO BSODS.

Put together my new pc this week and found that my RTX 2070 GPU doesn't work on the PCIE2 slot. When I plug in the hdmi cable there is no display on my monitor. When I connect the hdmi directly to the motherboard and boot it the pc doesn't detect that the graphics card. The when the card is plugged, the fans and lights are working but the display isn't working.

I also tested the port with my old GTX 970 card and it also doesn't work. When I tried installing the cards on the PCIE4 slot it works fine. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this issue. Reinstalled windows 10 multiple times, downloaded the NVidia driver, updated the BIOs, made sure BIOs primary graphics adapter was set to PCI Express, used DDU to remove other drivers on the PC, checked the pins of the CPU for bents, sprayed compressed air into the PCIe slots, reset CMOS. Nothing has fixed the issue.

Is there anything else I could try to fix the PCIE2 slot on the motherboard?

A:Asrock Z390 Extreme PCI2 slot not working

The CPU that you have doesn't have pins. The pins are on the motherboard.

Remove motherboard from computer case and place on the motherboard box. Do your testing there.

Disable BIOS backup

Remove M.2 and boot with the graphics card.

Disable Secure Boot and reboot with the graphics card installed.

Disable multi-monitor support for the Intel graphics and reboot.

Try another slot.

Change PCIe Link Speed.

Have you hooked a speaker to the speaker terminals on the motherboard. What are the beep codes?

If nothing helps, good luck working with ASRock questionable warranty to get a replacement.

I recently lost my ASUS P8Z68 Pro Gen 3 and replaced it with a AsRock Z77 Extreme 4. I put all my old components on the new board (2600K w/ H220, 16GB Ripjaws, Corsair Extreme SSD 250 GB w/ Win 7 and two WD 1Tb SATA HDD in RAID 0).

All went well. When I was done the RAID 0 drive was fine but I found out if I shut the computer off and turn it back on the raid drive disappears in windows. If I shut down the computer and hit F2 to go into the bios, the raid drives show up on the on the display for a moment as it is loading before it goes into the bios and then it enters the bios. I exit the bios without saving and the raid 0 drive shows up fine in windows. If I shut the computer off and don't hit F2 the raid drive will not show up. What is happening...I do not even save anything in the BIOS?

The scenario will then repeat. Why is the raid setup not "sticking/saving"?

Thanks for the help.

We have seen nothing but problems here with RAID ever since before Win7 was even released. I cannot remember a single good report on RAID but the problems including massive data loss continue. It isn't even Redundant (the first letter of its name) since many lose mirrored data. So why not install normally to one hard drive and use the secondary as a scheduled backup drive for file and image backup?

I just built my first PC last week and things have been fine for the most part. A few little problems here and there though. This might be a little long-winded but I would rather give as many details as possible.

My problem started with finally organizing my cables and peripherals. I plugged in my 2 external hard drives (2 different Seagate drives) into 2 rear USB 2.0 connectors and when I booted up, my computer kept going straight to BIOS without me touching any buttons. I would try to exit BIOS and start windows but I would keep looping back to BIOS everytime. When I unplugged them before I booted up, my pc would be fine. I could also access the data on the drives when I plugged them in after the boot.

I posted somewhere else about my issues and someone recommended disabling my usb and usb 3.0 legacy support. They also recommended updating my BIOS if it wasn't up to date.

Sure enough, I went into my BIOS and my version was 1.20 (newest version is 1.30). While I was in BIOS, I disabled my USB and USB 3.0 legacy support. Saved and exited and my computer booted up.

I downloaded the windows option for BIOS and tried to run it but I kept getting "Error : Firmware does not have flash (AFUWINGUI) support". So one question would be, is this error a big deal? I'm not going to try to install it from windows so I feel like it won't matter. After doing a little research I now see many people recommending not to do a windows installation... Read more

A:ASRock Extreme 3 Gen 3 -- can't access BIOS anymore. Computer boots fine though.

Is your keyboard USB or PS/2? Normally a USB keyboard will not work before booting until you've enabled it in BIOS already. So basically you need to use an older keyboard (or an adapter) the first time, and then enable USB in the BIOS to use your USB keyboard.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP 1 original unmodified MS Technet ISO to a blank Crucial RealSSD C300 SSD drive and it is taking hours to do that. The last time I did the install it took almost 4 hours to copy the files, I tried it from a DVD drive and from an external USB-HDD and there was no speed difference. After the installation was done, the SSD was very fast though, no problems at all then.

Now I have to install again and I do not want to wait again a half day just for the files to copy, so I hope anyone can point me towards a solution for this problem.

My Mainboard is a ASROCK 870 Extreme 3 , I use AHCI , AMD AHCI Bios is disabled and AHCI is enabled for SATA3_5 and 6 .

Thanks for any help.

A:Super slow Windows install on Asrock 870 Extreme 3 with RealSSD C300

Are you booting the installer and not running it from another OS?

If so then I'd download another ISO, try writing to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.
Boot under USB, Removable or HD's. Flash stick install is known to be faster.

You could have a bad DVD burn - if necessary to use DVD, burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals and try SSD in first SATA port in AHCI mode.

Hi there, I have only just recently purchased this board, from a local vendor.

After installing a Semp 2.8 S754, 160gb ide drive, dvdrw, floppy and 2 caddies (ide and sata, both used for data transfer and data retreival), 2 x crucial 512mb, and utilising the ob graphics. Windows xp sp2 etc, and all the usual gubbins, earlier this evening, after rebooting, its coming up with a error code on the bottom right hand corner of 075.

It freezes at this point, and simply hangs, after attempting a reboot, same error code, and I am unable to enter bios, or anything.

I have to say it was running fine at one point this evening, as i was transferring files onto the drive, and it was running sweet as a nut. After closing it down, and rebooting earlier on, this is whats happening now.

It doesn’t even get to the point of looking for the ide devices!

I have pulled everything apart and started from scratch, even testing it out on my work bench, and still the same thing. Tried another new hard drive, another crucial mem stick.

Is there something I am totally overlooking here, or is the mobo kaput already?

Ps, I have also attempted to boot the pc, with only the hd, and memory, and still the same error code.

Please try and assist a guy whose going prematurely grey at this point, and tearing out what little hair i have left lol

Thanks for your inputs

Hi All,

I took a stab on a refurb Powercolor X800xl cause I can RMA it if there are any problems (and it was $120 w/shipping - NewEgg). First question is can I just take the 9700pro agp out and put in the X800xl or are ther jumpers to switch? I tried this once and got one long beep and 9-10 quick beeps, then nothing. Also I've seen some cards with power connectors but this card doesn't have one. Do some need external power and are some just fine with the power from the PCIe slot? Anything I should change in the bios?

Want to make sure it isn't me before I send the card back. Here's my setup:

We just had a power outtage, and the pc I was using will not boot to a useable state.

It looks like the pc is actually booting to the desktop, but the display indicates 'No Connection.'

I'm assuming this means the video card is kaput ... but does anyone have a beep code list for my mobo :

Asrock 939 Dual SATA-2. ?

I Googled for such a list but found nothing pertinent, and emailed Asrock with a request for the same - but won't hold my breath waiting for them to answer.

Any links / tips appreciated.

Is it possible to install the AHCI (SATA) drivers for Windows XP for the a.m. motherboard after OS installation ?

I downloaded the AHCI drivers from the manufacturer?s site and tried the F6 method with the Windows XP installation CD. Unfortunately there are two diskettes and XP recognizes only the first one as driver diskette, he asks for the second one and even if inserted he keeps asking for the second one.

Somewhere on your web page there are some instructions, recommending to add a registry key and to copy ahcix86.sys to C:\Windows\System32\Driver but in the downloaded drivers there is no such file.
As already mentioned required drivers are on two diskettes and do not fit into one single diskette.

So how can I install AHCI (SATA) drivers on Windows XP without having to reinstall the OS ? And if not possible, how do I reinstall Windows XP with the F6 method if it does not accept the second diskette ?

A:AHCI (SATA) after Windows installation for Motherboard ASROCK K10N78FullHD-hSLI R2.

It's possible - I have done it myself. There may be different procedures depending on what SATA controller is on the motherboard, but first you need to find a WinXP SATA/AHCI driver from the manufacturer.

With the PC running in IDE mode:
Open Windows XP's device manager and expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. You should see an SATA AHCI controller - right-click that one and choose "Update driver". Browse to the driver you downloaded and find the correct .inf file. If the downloaded driver is an .exe file you have to extract it first.
With the driver installed, restart the PC and enter BIOS. Change the hard disk mode from IDE to SATA/AHCI.

If that doesn't work you can slipstream the SATA driver to the XP install disc: How to Slipstream Your SATA Drivers Into a Windows XP Installation CD Using nLite

I cannot seem to access the bios at all with windows 8.1 and my gtx 780 ti. When I connect the hdmi to my gtx 670, I can see the bios screen and can change the config but with the hdmi in my 780 ti I get a black screen until the dual boot windows selection. I've disable fast boot and have no idea what else to do.

A:No "uefi firmware settings" option on asrock z77 extreme 4

My guess is its defaulted back to another output on that card. I have three monitors on my GT 640. My BIOS splash screen and the Windows splash screen display on one monitor (DVI), and the Windows logon screen etc display on my main monitor (HDMI). It does the same thing whether I set Windows to single monitor or extend. I haven't tried it with just the HDMI monitor plugged in by itself though. Normally they should all go to the one monitor that's plugged in. If I get a chance latter on I'll unplug my two DVI monitors and see what happens. There is no guaranty that it will do what yours is doing but it will be interesting to see what happens just for future reference for me.

I could really use some help with this. I have a HD that I'm moving from one Windows 7 machine to another.

The new system is a Gateway DX4860. The old was was also a Gateway DX4820.
When I put the old drive in the new computer, I get the Windows Splash screen, the stars begin to appear and it resets.
I went back to the old machine and noticed the BIOS setting for SATA was set to RAID.
I changed the new system to RAID, it just froze.
I put a second drive in the new machine and now it boots properly.
I installed the AHCI drivers, changed the registry setting to 0, rebooted the machine, and changed the BIOS setting to AHCI from RAID.
When Windows tries to boot, I'm getting the same behavior as before (I get the Windows Splash screen, the stars begin to appear and it resets).
This is for Windows 7 BTW.

Gateway AND Intel have both told me I need to re-install the OS to make this happen. I'd rather not do that if AT ALL possible.

I'd very much appreciate some help with this.

Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide!

You have a few things happening here, 1st your Win7 is probably an OEM (Originaly came w/the system) andassuck is tiedto the original mobo & can'tbe moved.
2nd, you have 1 sys w/ a core2quad processor, and the other has an I5. This means the mobo & memory are different, you have a different setof drivers so thr=e DX4860 will not boot with the older drivers. Normallythis would take aclean install, but being an OEM version - you would need therecovery discsfromthe DX4860.

Hi everyone, I just bought a ThinkPad X1 Etreme and would like to add a second SSD. As I only use it for storing data, I want to opt for a cheaper SATA based one, as these are also supported. Which M.2 keys are supported on the X1E: B-key, M-key or B&M-key?I would assume that B&M would work, but I am not sure whether there is a downside compared to get the right fit B- or M-key. The option I was looking at was this: http://www.crucial.com/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10151&categoryId=&productId=2429...Would this one work? Any help is much appreciated :-)

I recently noticed the SATA Controller Mode in BIOS curretly set to "AHCI Mode" instead of Intel RST, but my X1 Extreme Gen 2 uses a Samsung 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD using PCIe.  My impression was that RST Mode allows you to take advantage of SSDs using PCIe and achieve better performance, but have also read that's only if you're using a RAID setup which I am not.  Would I gain anything by switching to RST mode or should I leave it in AHCI? Side note: Not sure if it matters but the Intel RST driver does show up in Device Manager, even after manually downloading it from the Lenovo website.  I do see the "Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller" and "Standard NVMe Express Controller" under the Storage Controllers section though. Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks.

Hi,  According to the specifications sheet, X1 Extreme supports both Sata and Nvme Ssd's. https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Extreme/ThinkPad_X1_Extreme_Platfo... My machine comes with an Nvme Ssd. It would be OK to add an additional Sata Ssd in the free slot, right? And use both. (Just checking, before I buy).  Thanks!Adrian

ok so i was trying to restore my files from a backup i made on my external harddrive with acronis. then wen it was restoring i clicked cancel cause it wasn't moving (there was my mistake) cause now wen i turn it on, i only see the first page which is like f10 for setup and esc for something like that. then the next screen is just a black screen with __ so im thinking i screwed up, big time. anyone got any ideas how to fix this? by the way i dont got no recovery cd's or any of that.

*edit* wait just found recovery cd 1 and 2. still dunno what to do with them though

A:Extreme! Help Needed

I would first try to redo the Acronis operation and let it run through to completion. That "should" fix things up. If not, then post back with and we'll see about using the recovery disks.

Hi all, cant decide between x1 extreeme and p1 for my work laptop.First of all this machine is primarily for work not gaming, (i'm ex macbook pro user and i was fine with some simple games from steam running on their **bleep**ty integrated intel graphics (no dedicated gpu))...What i do mostly is compile stuff and do some video rendering (nothing fancy simple 1080p) casual videos for personal use.Ocasionally i'd like to be able to do some gaming and training machine learning models...I'm unsure what Nvidia quadro gpus are and how does it compare to GTX 1050Ti in xtreame? My impression so far was that quadros are specifically made for few tools like AutoCad or Maya or things like that none of which i care about, and that those gpus are nothing useful for gaming... yet my basic search for P2000 vs GTX 1050Ti shows that P2k is much more performant beast. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-Quadro-P2000-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-Mobile/m257811vsm223...So my question really is will P2000 work fine for some gaming, ML  (I dont know if these gpus are supported by frameworks i'm yet to get into ML) and will it work fine with some adobe video rendering software? What are your experiences on this, please share. Also one small question, for P1 Memory options lenovo recommends single 16GB memory while x1 recommends 2x8GB (dual channel), why so? wont P1 use 2x8GB in dual channel mode or lenovo assumes we are going to eventually add another 16GB? just want to be carefu... Got a WD 500GB EIDE drive that needs data recovered from it. It won't spin up - stay up, rather. It spins up, but then powers down automatically after about 5 seconds and won't come back on.

I've already swapped the board with two other working drives, same thing.

Anyone know how I can force it to stay spinning, so I can get the data from it? I don't care if it never works again afterward, I just need it running long enough to run a recovery tool on it and get the data.

I will entertain any suggestion Even if I have to open the platter casing.

I used the A75 Pro4-M in my current build, but I'm building another for a friend. I'm not sure if I should go with the same board, or use the B75 Pro3-M this time. It's hard to find any reviews on either of these boards.

I like the PCIE spacing on the A75 board, but I'd also like to try the i5-2500K.
Any opinions?

A:ASRock A75 Pro4-M or Asrock B75 Pro3-M?

I'm using the gigabyte system in my recording studio and the ASRock is my "everyday" PC.

Normally this is a pretty basic upgrade. It has been my experience ,that it is wise to switch your VGA drivers to Standard windows VGA drvers first and reboot .Then Shut down ,install your card . When you start up again go direct to your CMOS setup and disable onboard graphics and then save exit.
Windows should recognize the card for driver install on that last restart.
Please read your installation guide in case there is any issues to be aware of , and if there is any procedure I did not mention.
Good luck

I Have just installed a sata III pci-e card on my Gigabyte p35ds3l motherboard, which only supports SATAII. I had been running an Intel SSD as my C:\ system drive with Windows 7. I booted into windows and installed the drivers for this card: Asmedia 1061.

Now when I plug in a normal sata drive to the card it shows up in windows, no problem. However it refuses to boot from the SSD drive, which is my "C" drive, when plugged in to the sata III card. In fact, when plugged in to the sata3 card, it is not recognised on the start-up screens or in the BIOS. I went into the bios and changed boot order to add on cards, but this did not change the situation. Can anyone offer advice? Using AHCI.

hello everyone I came on her a long time ago looking for help isntalling xp on my vista machine, it had no way to chance SATA to IDE emulation or anything so I needed to get the drivers for xp. Well no one ended up helping me and I finally brought it to a tech guy who got it on..problem is i caught a bad virus that prevents me from getting past winlogon.exe in boot and can't fix it. Microsoft would'nt fix it and the tech guy couldnt fix it. My question is can anyone help me find a driver, I have spent the entire week testing several driver packs and none will work when i get into installation. Can anyone help me find the sata drivers for windows xp on my Toshiba MK1637GSX HD? I believe the correct driver needed is ICH8E-M SATA AHCI driver.Thank you for reading and your responses! My laptop is a sony VAIO AR605E incase needed to know...and yes I have seen several guides but all have failed to help!

A:Sata driver needed!

This might be it. I had trouble finding out what chipset your laptop uses, but I'm assuming if it's the 965GM chipset, then this download should work.
Check carefully in the BIOS. Different BIOSes will name the setting differently. Some have AHCI or RAID, some say "SATA native mode", some say "legacy IDE" or "parallel ATA emulation".

Hi there,

This is my first post on this site but I hear you guys are really helpful.

I have a Dell inspiron 1545 that crashed and would not load the OS so after running a diagnostic it tells me that the Hard Drive had failed so I went and purchased a new SATA HDD 400gb. I plugged that in to the dell inspiron and it recognised the new hdd but it has nothing to boot so then I quickly realised that I am a dummy because of course I am going to need to put an OS on to the HDD for it to boot.

I am not very good with computers but I try to research before I ask people for help. Then I remembered that I had a caddy so I could connect the new hdd to my other computer (an Acer Aspire) and back the C: Drive up to that in the hope that the Dell will accept the new hdd and boot that back up.

Does this sound like a good plan or have I missed something really important. I dont have the recovery disc from dell because they suck and the OS comes pre loaded without the OS on a seperate disc. Same with Acer.

If this doesn't work what should I do?

Thanks in advance

A:Solved: Help Needed SATA HDD Replacement

If you are taslking about Cloning the Acer C: drive to the new hard drive, that won't work for your Dell. Because the OS on the Acer is installed with necessary drivers specific to the Motherboard in the Acer and will not boot in the Dell. If you are talking about Cloning the Failed drive to the new drive that also will not work as the drive is no longer working. Most newer Laptops and desktops do not come with system restore discs, they usually include a program that allows you to create the Restore disc(s) yourself, unfortunately you have to do that when the original hdd is working.

So it seems that you are either going to have to contact Dell and see if they have available a set of System Restore discs for purchase for your laptop, or you are going to have to purchase a copy of the OS and install it yourself. Then you will have to download the Drivers for your model Dell from Dells website (which is free).

Hello all!
I really need help solving a problem with my SATA hard drive.
I use NT Files System as storing method. Just the other day, i was using PartitionMagic8.0 to create a new NTFS partition for storing data, but i saw this tiny partition with file system of FAT, I thought it was useless so i formated it with PartitionMagic8.0. But, it turns out to be the Boot Patition which is needed to boot the OS. As I learned the lesson the hard way, now my comp wont even boot to the boot screen. It always display an error message that saids "error loading operating system". I tryed to reinstall XP, but it cannot locate my Serial ATA hard drive, i used the SATA RAID driver after pressing F6 during installaing of XP that i got from Western Digital, but it still cannot wont locate the hard drive. Is there any way to save the data on my Western Digital SATA hard drive?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks for taking your time in considering to help me!

Hello, I installed Windows 7 and I'm in the process of installing drivers from my motherboard's manufacturing website. I have a P5QE mobo (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5QE/#support) I already boot in AHCI mode.
I have already installed the following 4 items from the site:
Under the Audio Section: SoundMAX 2000B Audio Driver V6.10.2.6585 for Windows 64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Under the Chipset Section: Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility V9.1.1.1019 for Windows 32/64bit XP & 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Under the LAN section: Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Driver V11.10.5.3 for 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Under the SATA section: Marvell 6121 SATA Driver V1.2.0.69 for 32/64bit Windows7.
I noticed that there is another download under the "SATA" section.
This download contains the items:Intel® Matrix Storage Manager Driver V8.9.0.1023 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Intel® AHCI/RAID Driver Disk for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.
Do I need this download? I do not run in RAID.

You can if you want.  Windows 7 should load them if it recognizes the chipset.  If not, place that driver along with the others on a USB Pendrive, so you can load them after you are done installing the OS.
