Dell Precision 5510 with TB16 Dock Prompts for Recovery Key on BitLocker Enabled Windows 10 1703

Q: Dell Precision 5510 with TB16 Dock Prompts for Recovery Key on BitLocker Enabled Windows 10 1703

Title in the subject line pretty much says it.I've got a Dell Precision 5510 and a TB16 dock.It is currently running Windows 10 1703 but this issue existed under Windows 10 1607 as well.
Sequence of events/how to replicate:

Connect the Precision 5510 to the TB16 dock (presence of any other combination of peripherals seems to be irrelevant)
Boot into Windows 10 and enable BitLocker using TPM and a PIN
Shutdown and power on or /restart, whilst still connected to the TB16, enter your PIN and boot successfully
Shutdown and disconnect from the TB16 dock then try to boot - BitLocker prompts for the great big recovery key (what a pain)
Entering the recovery key and proceeding to boot is fine, as is shutting down and trying to boot again with the TB16 attached but if you're away from the office (and the TB16) and don't have the recovery key, then you're in a bit of a pickle!
If you've...

Booted with the TB16 attached
Shutdown and disconnected from the TB16
Booted to encounter BitLocker recovery (but luckily had the recovery key with you and entered it)
Continued to use the Precision 5510 away from the TB16 and restarted...then you have no need to encounter BitLocker recovery and re-enter the recovery key again

One you go back to connecting to the TB16 though... you guessed it, you need to re-enter the recovery key again.
I see two ways to look at this:

What's going on at a hardware level that is resulting in this behaviour? Is there something at a dock configuration, firmware or BIOS level that can be done to avoid this happening?
What can be done with BitLocker to make it tolerate the change(s) in hardware state when connecting and disconnecting the TB16?

Question 2 is probably best answered elsewhere but has anybody else encountered this situation or can anybody from Dell suggest answers to Question 1? Is there anything I can do differently with Precision 5510 and TB16?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We have a Dell Precision 5520 that uses a TB16 docking station that all of a sudden is having difficulties connecting to our VPN. It was fine earlier in the day. We tried clearing the DNS cache and tried a winsock reset. THe drivers are up to date and everything.
Also tried to reboot the computer multiple times.
Even tried a K17A Dock and had the same issue.
We were finally able to get the computer to connect to the vpn once we used a usb net adapter to plug the ethernet cable into.
Tried plugging the usb adapter into the computer directly and into the dock. It worked whether it was directly connected to the computer or the dock.
It only does not work when we connect the ethernet cable to into the lan port on the TB16 and K17A dock. And only for the one computer.

At a loss, any ideas?

Hello,
I'm facing the following issue with a Dell Precision 5510 laptop with latest bios 1.2.14 A13. It appeared suddenly, I just rebooted a working system.
The laptop does not boot anymore and the Dell logo is not shown, however, the diagnostic battery led blinks 2 times white and 2 times amber.
According to the error table that I found here http://www.dell.com/support/article/uk/en/ukdhs1/SLN295101/EN#2016_to_Present that means
System Board : BIOS, ROM Failure
and the suggested next steps are:

Flash BIOS to latest revision
If problem persists contact Tech Support for further troubleshooting
Did anyone had a similar experience?
How can I re-flash the BIOS from a non-booting machine?
I found some tricks for the Dell XPS 9350 (extracting HDR and ROM files from bios executable and plugging a USB drive) but they do not seem to apply to this laptop.
UPDATE
I found http://www.dell.com/support/article/uk/en/ukdhs1/SLN300716/en but I'm still unable to recover the computer. I keep getting the 3:3 blinking pattern, even after I put the latest BIOS (renamed to 'BIOS_IMG.rcv') into a newly formatted FAT32 USB stick (2 GB). I also tried with different USB sticks, and both USB ports.
Any help is really appreciated
Best regards,
alessioc

Kind of a multi part question here.
I have a Precision 7510 and a TB16 Dock. I have the quadro m2000 graphics card. When I have my dock connected I connect a display port cable from my dock' s display port out to my dell 4k monitor. The max resolution is either FHD at 60 hrz or 3840x2160 at 30hrz. The 30hrz option is not acceptable for me. I end up trying it with a mini display port to the dock with a display port to the monitor adapter cable that came with the monitor. That gives me the full 3840x2160 resolution.
Two questions here.
1 why am I not getting proper output from the full size display port on my dock and is there something that can be done to correct it as I think I should be able to connect another 4k monitor and was thinking about getting another of the dell ones but don't want to unless I know it will work.
2 I see a lot of info on the different revisions of both display port and hdmi. I think the latest display port revision is 1.4 or something and  hdmi is 2.1. What version is my machine able to support? In looking for help online with question 1 I found info that makes me believe it could be related to what version of display port is supported by my machine. That is why I am looking for that info.
Thank you
Matt

Several times a day my monitor – which is connected to my laptop via displaylink through USB – will freeze, meaning the image freezes.  My laptop screen still works, and I’m able to continue to work on my laptop, but it requires a full restart of the computer in order to connect to my external monitor again.  When this happens, the USB port the monitor was connected to will stop working  (see screenshot).  Uninstalling the device and then allowing Windows to detect it and install it again does not solve the problem, it still gives the same message.  I’ve tried everything listed on the displaylink website (found here) to fix this issue, but nothing works, not even bios or firmware updates.
I also contacted displaylink and sent them hardware logs, and they said:
"I can see the problem in the logs of the USB hardware just stops responding to our driver so we can no longer update the screen. This looks like a hardware issue and it would be best to contact Dell for support with this issue."

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?  My monitor is almost unusable at this point since I know it will freeze at any moment.

We received a new 5510 laptop that works great on its own, but when adding in the thunderbolt dock we experience odd issues

1. If the laptop lid is closed while connected to thunderbolt, the laptop will hang at the Dell bios screen.  If the lid is open while power turned on, the laptop boots up fine.  However, the BIOS screen is still not visible on the external monitors, only when the OS has loaded
2. Dell shipped a new dock which had no differnce, and then I uninstalled every single driver and downloaded/installed in order from Dell's website, including updated Thunderbolt firmware and BIOs

The laptop is running Windows 10 x64

2 things I have noticed:
1. In device manager, the Thunderbolt Controller 1575 is hidden.  Viewing hidden devices and opening this controller states:
"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer (Code 45)"  The resources tab states that there is a problem with the device
Of course, reconnecting makes no difference.  I have also unplugged all peripherals from the dock to make sure there was not a conflict
Second, in device manager, there is no listing (visible or invisible) for  ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver for Dell Thunderbolt Dock, regardless of uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs and re-installing.
One more note - I am able to work normally after booting with the lid open successfully and then closing the lid.

A:Precision 5510 issues with Thunderbolt dock

I have the exact same symptoms with the same hardware (precision 5510 & WD15). the computer will not POST when it is either started or restarted with the built-in display closed. If the lid is open... all is fine. Ohh.. and when you do try to start/restart with the lid closed, i get a 2 orange, 7 white blink code. it will continue to repeat this until I open the lid and press the power button. This will then cause the unit to successfully POST and boot up.
I'm running Windows 8.1, and have installed all available dell updates as of March 28th, 2016

My corporate office has told me that we will be using Dell Precision 5510 laptops in the future and our office uses Windows 7 Enterprise because we need bitlocker on them.  Dell has a fully functional Windows 7 Pro disc which I can download and install
with no issues.  The BIOS is configured for legacy and the drive is configured in AHCI mode when I do the installation.
If I attempt to install directly from our Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise disc from Microsoft as part of our enterprise agreement, I get the error "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.  If you have a driver floppy disc, CD, DVD, or USB flash

get this error, but the installer cannot see the hard drive unless I change the bios to UEFI and RAID.
Even though the windows installer can now see the hard drive, I cannot install to it.  I get the error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.  Ensure that the disk's controller

I have attempted injecting the MS KB2990941 and KB3087873 into the disc since these are supposed to add NVME support to Windows 7.  I change the BIOS back to legacy and... Read more

What should my expectations be after successfully using the Dell-provided "Download Operating System Recovery Image" for Windows 10 Pro x64 on a Precision 5510 laptop?
I successfully downloaded and wrote the "Windows 10 Pro - 64-Bit" image to a USB drive, and successfully used the "Recover from a drive" option as described.  But the resulting Windows 10 Pro x64 installation looked little different than if I had simply taken retail Microsoft Windows 10 Pro x64 1511 (November 2015) installation media and performed a clean installation.
Meaning it didn't appear to restore "a Dell-customized Windows installation", nor "specifically prepared for the Precision 5510."  Device Manager still had about a dozen drivers missing that Windows wouldn't pick up from locally installed drivers or Windows Update, etc.  I was expecting the "Download Operating System Recovery Image" to approximately match the shipping factory image for the Precision 5510.  At least for drivers and hardware, if not also installed support software.
Since it's still based on the November 2015 release of Windows 10, the image clearly isn't "the latest".  Note the .ISO the Dell Support site provided for me to download was "2DF4FA00_W10x64ROW_pro(DL)_v3.iso", which based on the dates inside the ISO, was prepared in March 2016.

A:Windows 10 Pro x64 Operating System Recovery Image for Precision 5510

One item in my description needs to be corrected:
Indeed, when I successfully use the Dell "Operating System Recovery Image" and haven't granted any network access to the machine, the Windows 10 Pro 1511 installation the recovery image provides doesn't have the drivers for the Precision 5510 devices.  (~12 items without drivers in Device Manager.)
But I also said once connected to the network and using Windows Update, it wasn't finding the drivers either.  That appears to be incorrect, and was actually a symptom of the NVIDIA driver package taking a _long_ time to come down from Windows Update.  Given enough time, the Device Manager will show 100% device coverage, for either the Dell "Operating System Recovery Image" Windows 10 Pro 1511 installation, or for a normal retail Windows 10 Pro 1607 installation without using the recovery image.
So the question remains, what is the expected outcome from using the Dell "Operating System Recovery Image"?  I don't see anything in the results of successfully using that image which are Dell-specific, nor Precision 5510-specific.  But the Dell "Operating System Recovery Image" is 6GB+, as compared to the 4GB Microsoft Windows 10 installation ISO.  So it seems like "there is something more in there", but I'm just not seeing it or not using it correctly.

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

A:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

I have bought Dell Precision 5510 which I paid ~2000 euro. It came with pre installed Ubuntu 14.04.
However, this laptop uses Nvidia Optimus technology which is does not have stable support for Linux.
When connecting external monitor I get random crashes when switching mouse between integrated and external screen. I have tried to update to latest Bumblebee project but still have sporadic issues.
Another issue is that sound card random disappears and then I need to turn off the laptop, unplug the charger, wait, plugin the charger and boot the computer, at which point MOST of the time sound works again, or at least partially.
I have contacted Dell technical support which said since I have bought the laptop for the company they are not able to refund my money and take the laptop back, but they can only replace the laptop.
I have tried to update to latest Ubuntu but the sound issues persist.
Please, I BEG YOU, explain to me why are you selling PREMIUM Linux incompatible laptops at such high prices without telling people it uses incompatible hardware?
What should I do now? I am getting very frustrated, 2000 euro is a lot of money to buy a brick that I can not use? Who can I sue? Where can I get answers?
Did I just waste a tone of money just so that I need to buy a new laptop from different manufacturer to continue my job?
How can you let this things happen? :/

Hi all!Recently we bought a QNAP TS-453BT3.This device functions as a NAS with two Thunderbolt 3 ports,  two computers can access simultaneously at high-speed. As a video production company that's very nice to have! Our two computer setups:DESKTOPAsus X99-A II MOBONvidia GTX1080ThunderboltEX3 (PCI-E card)LG Ultrawide 38" ...

It keeps working perfectly with out desktop. When the TB3 cable is connected in the TB16 dock at boot-up, non of the USB devices are recognized.
So there is a problem with the TB16 dock in combination with TB3 and it's powersettings.
Currently we are using the XPS 9650 without the TB16 dock.Unfortunately the HMDI out of the XPS can't handle 4K 60hz.As an video-editor 60hz is really necessary.
Does somebody have any idea what the problem might be?Thanks in advance!

Hi guys,
Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere (though I haven't been able to find anything). I'm testing a TB16 dock for use with the Latitude 7480 but cannot get it to work with the monitors. it is supplying power to the laptop, but nothing else plugged into it is recognised. I have updated all the available drivers for the 7480 and the BIOS is updated to 1.2.9.  The BIOS was updated first.
When I attempt to install the  Thunderbolt 3 Firmware update, I get an error that "No Thunderbolt controller update supported for this platform ID=0x7A0".
I have installed the available thunderbolt drivers listed here in addition to the Thunderbolt Software 16.2.52.250
I'm running Windows 10 Pro version 1607 Build 14393.953
Short of uninstalling all the drivers and reinstalling in the right order (again), I'm running out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I don't know about that particular machine but the TB firmware and controller are installed to the machine before you even plug in the dock.
If the Thunderbolt options in the Bios are greyed out, you do not have a Thunderbolt controller.  I will leave it to you as to whether you have a 2 or 3 lane Thunderbolt system.

A:New battery for Dell Precision 5510

Dell does not do parts swaps-upgrades-downgrades after purchase.  Only warranty work is covered on an at-location basis if you have purchased that upgrade when you bought the system.
If you want to install those parts, you'll need to purchase them separately (Dell Spare Parts -- 1-800-357-3355) and either install them yourself or have a local computer shop provide the labor on an as-billed basis.

My Dell precision 5510 came with 256GB Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD. I want to upgrade it with Samsung SSD 850 EVO SATA M.2 1TB , which is a 1TB SATA SSD drive. The 850 EVO M.2 drive has two notches on it's M.2 port, while my 950 pro has a single notch (see the following images). My laptop has an 84Kwh battery, and not the 56Kwh, hence there is no space for a 2.5" drive. I can only install an M.2 drive, in the given slot.
Will the 850 EVO physically fit in my laptop?
Will 850 EVO work correctly, considering that it is SATA and not NVMe, and has two notches, instead of one?

A:Can an M.2 SSD be installed in Dell precision 5510?

No -- the system requires a PCIe/NVMe drive.  SATA drives are not supported.

So I got the TB16 to use with my Windows 10 Precision 7510. I've had issues with the USB devices dropping out randomly but I seem to have got that under control (for now). I'm having another issue of sorts. Updated the BIOS then went into the BIOS changed restart/shutdown to "thorough" and checked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" as I wanted to boot from a USB DVD drive that was connected to the TB16. But when I tried to boot the laptop got stuck on the Dell logo and wouldn't go into POST. I tried diagnostic boot and got the same result. Couldn't get far enough to press F2 or F12. When I disconnected the TB16 and powered on the laptop it booted up fine. I could then connect the TB16 and it would work fine. But if I tried to restart with the TB16 connected I had the same issue. I eventually unchecked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" just so I could restart without having to disconnect the TB16 (I don't know which of the two options is causing the booting issue though). I can get by without booting from the TB16 but I got it partly for that reason so would to get it working if I can. Any ideas?

It might be if the devices are intermittent, they would exhibit problems during a Pre Boot Scan.

You are wanting to boot a UEFI capable DVD, such as the Win 10 Install media, connected to the TB16?  If that is the case, I can test to see if I can do it.  I am wondering if the Thunderbolt is connected to the PCIe bus if any device there will be checked for boot compatibility.

Hi all,
I recently purchased a TB16 thunderbolt dock. Everything seems to work perfectly except for the fact that my XPS isnt actually charging. The battery indicator shows that its charging but the battery continually drains and not indication of charge time shows up leading me to believe that no power is actually going to the laptop.
I have updated all the drivers except for the Thunderbolt 3 Firmware which continually fails to install. It gives me an error message of  "Thunderbolt Firmware installation failed" and I believe the NVM firmware is 8 currently. Im speculating that this is causing the charging issues. Has anyone had a similiar installation problem? Ive tried disabling my antivirus etc but it continues to fail.

Please help!

A:Dell XPS 13 9350 and TB16 dock problem

(EDIT: The information below pertains to the XPS 15, not the XPS 13 like the OP is using. Apologies for the confusion.)The TB16 is sold with two different wattage AC adapters: 180W and 240W.  The XPS 15 requires that the TB16 be powered by the 240W adapter in order to charge the system. Check the wattage on the AC adapter you're using with the TB16.

Hello, I've purchased a precision 5510 about two years ago, the battery has been working perfectly ever since, until today, where it suddenly showed an error, and no longer operating:Your battery no longer operates and needs to be replaced.Note that in the morning, the battery was working perfectly and lasts about 6~7 hours.
I've tried upgrading the BIOS, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting, nothing works.
Please advise.

A:Dell precision 5510 battery error

If the system is under warranty, call Dell and they'll replace the battery.  if it is out of warranty, you'll need to purchase a new battery -- for now, it may work, but it's clear that it has failed.

As the title suggests, after having this laptop for a week now,i noticed this super annoying red tint on the 4K display, especially on darker backgrounds. After doing a bit of research i found other people complaining about this issue as well.To me this is plain crazy after spending 3K euro for a laptop of this class and with these "outstanding display reviews".
Does anyone else here experienced it?Before noticing never paid attention but now knowing it bugs me a lot.I don't really get it how Dell can produce something like that and this is not a 500eu laptop-it is supposed to be a premium workstation with a great display.Sorry for the rant but whoever experience such a thing for their money will understand. And the worst part is that i am not even in the country where i bought it-can't even return it right now.

A:Dell Precision 5510 4K display red tint

Color perception is an individual thing - no two people will necessarily perceive the same color the same way.
Even more than the return issue, if you've moved out of the country of purchase, you may find you have no warranty - you will want to investigate upgrading to an international warranty, should you have an issue in the future.

Hi, I've purchased a Dell precision M5510 and it was delivered to me on 23/6/2016 and it's been working well since then .. but lately my trackpad got very stiff and hard to cilck .. I opened it up, found out that the battery has 3 kind of inflamed cells out of 6, when I remove the battery the trackpad clicks fine, put the battery back in, becomes stiff!!
Why did the battery do so? the machine is fairly new and I mainly use the wall power and I don't use the battery much!!
so first, what should I do, I don't think there are Dell maintenance centers in Egypt that can handle this particular model (I bought it from amzon US)
second, what's the best practice for maintaining battery health? third, I often play games on this machine, and the temperatures of both cpu and gpu average at about 78 C for most of the gaming session, I believe it's reasonable and safe, or isn't it?
Btw, battery health is still good, does about 6~8 hours, also my warranty is over :(
The swelling in the 3 cells looks like some kind of a fluid or gas, that I am resisting the temptation to pop with a needle or something.

Hi,

I have mentioned new combintation Precision 5520 with TB16 dock. And I suffred odd problem USB and audio problem after first attachment ever of TB16 dock. USB ports and audio out in Laptop side stopped working, yes those are working from dock.
I got audio working after installing drivers again for it, but USB are staying silent after re-installation of all available drivers from Dell support pages (or via command update).I can see from device manager that laptop has one problematic (not working) USB controller, but it looks that I'm not able to find driver for it to get it working.
So some help is appriciated here.

Hi All,

I'm currently working for a client who requires a secure build, we are following guidelines which require the use of EMET and Bitlocker.

We're deploying Win 7 Enterprise Machines via SCCM, we're then installing EMET 5.51 during the TS (Intending on managing EMET via GPO's), Turning TPM on/ Enabling etc, taking ownership then enabling bitlocker with TPM and PIN.

This all works just fine, up until the point of a GPupdate when the EMET policies are applied (We believe it is DEP that is killing bitlocker) then on next reboot we are prompted for they recovery key...obviously this is not ideal in an enterpise deployment!

We have tried manually setting DEP via cmdline in the task sequence PRE bitlocker, but any GPO's (Even with DEP as not configured) still seems to overwrite the settings and make changes to the BCD....

Maybe I'm missing something really obvious, I'm not sure any help would be great!

Cheers,

I just bought a Dell TB16 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 dock for my Dell XPS 9550. I updated the BIOS and drivers for both units using Dell Command Update, but now every time I boot up my computer I get a message stating "your PC may need updates for the Thunderbolt 3 port to function properly. For more information go to thunderbolttechnology.net/updates". That link, in turn, refers me to the Dell page that tells me to do the updates I've already done.
It's annoying to get this message even though everything appears to be up to date. Anyone run into this and have a solution?

Hello,
My XPS 13 crashes each time I try to connect the dock with Intel Thunderbolt program. I have updated the BIOS, and did all the firmwares and drivers listed in TB16 installation.
What shall I do?

A:Dell XPS 13 OS crashes when configured to use TB16 Dock in Thunderbolt app

Which version of the XPS 13 do you have?
Did the software and Firmware update install normally without the Dock attached?
Have you tried running the Dock without any outputs connected?
Did you get any popups related to allowing certain connected devices?
Look in the Settings and Details to see what TB controller you are using and if it does not show as Unknown.

Hi guys.
I have a Precision 5510 work station laptop, where I have struggeled with getting my two 4k monitors running on 4k / 60 Hz. The HDMI port does only support 4k / 30 Hz, which is unbearable.
I now have a Plugable thunderbolt 3 hub, which gives me one DP port so I can run 4k / 60 Hz.

Do any of you have any tips on which Thunderbolt 3 hub that can pull off 2 x 4k / 60 Hz monitors?
My colleague is looking on the 5520 laptop, but if it can run what we mean is the future standard (2x4k 60Hz monitors), we might go for another brand.
I would prefer a hub, so we only need to unplug the carger and TB3 cable.
I have found this adapter, which may be plugged in the TB3 port of a TB3 hub, but that will be pretty messy.

Any other tips?

Hi all
Have just added latest driver CAB, v.A03,  for teh Precision 5510 to our MDT infrastructure and run a W7 x64.  All okay with the exception of the wireless hotkey functionality (Fn-PrtScr).  It's only disabling/enabling Bluetooth and not wireless as well.  All other Fn key combinations seem to be working okay.  Users could disable wireless via Mobility Center but this isn't ideal.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm in the market to replace my Z Book 14 G1. I had a really bad experience with HP support during the first year or so of my ownership (replacement LCD panels substandard, repeated follow ups to fix repair scratches to top panel, dead pixels etc etc), even now the LCD bezel isn't quite right. so am minded not to buy another HP/ HP workstation laptop. However, I've been comparing the Z Book Studio G3 model with Dell's Precision 5510 range. The customisation's that I can make to the Dell make it a more attractive proposition particularly with regards specifying no OS. I understand that with the Dell has fewer business features and am able to deal with that compromise. In the US I am able to order a  customised Z Book Studio G3, is this possible in the UK? Best regards,Ben.

I wan to use the Dell Precision 5510 Mobile Workstation for 3D programs, as well as for gaming. How good is it for playing steam games, and 3D simulation games?
Will they run well?
Is there a better laptop out there for gaming and 3D work?
Thanks !

A:Dell Precision 5510 Mobile Workstation for Gaming?

If you're planning on both gaming and 3D, you're better off with an Alienware - the GPU will be better for games, and also 3D capable.  While the GPU in the Precision systems is 3D capable, it's not going to be as satisfactory for gaming.

I have a Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 - 240W docking station for the XPS 15 9560. It comes with a 0.5m USB Type-C Thunderbolt cable. Is there a longer cable, such as a 1m cable available for the TB16?
The TB16 was shipped from Dell with an instruction booklet entitled "Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) Dock Cable Installation Guide." The book has instructions on how to remove the shipped cable and replace it with some cable that is received as a separate shipment. Does anyone know the purpose for those instructions?
I'd like to suggest that the above questions would be a nice addition to the TB16 FAQ... adding some info on cable length, cable length restrictions, future plans for differing cable lengths, etc., might help users such as myself. I see others out there which have concerns about short cable length so that's why I think the answer to the above would make good TB16 support KB articles or FAQ entries.
Thank you!

A:Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 Maximum Cable Length

The included instruction guide is just in case you need to remove the cable for replacement.
My cable is around .4 meters or 16 inches.  I do not know of other length cables are available.

Problem: Audio output is not using the full spectrum. Audio sounds "boomy". Dell Audio missing many controls. Tested the output against a pink noise reference (see image) so you can see that the Dell audio is not outputting a flat signal (or even full audio sound).
Running all the latest Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update and audio drivers as of Dec.10, 2017.Reinstalled audio drivers and rebooted several times. Dell SupportAssist is telling me I'm up to date.

A:Dell Precision 5510 not outputting full audio spectrum

The latest Realtek driver listed on the Dell downloads is 19 Oct 2017.   I would install that and see what you get.   I have a recording studio and would look for a flat response, however the audio in most PC's and especially laptops is not flat and intentionally compensated.
PC audio, e.g. Realtek, is not used in serious recording studios for many reasons including latency, levels, etc.

Hello,
After much troubleshooting, I discovered an issue when using the WD15 docking station with a Dell Precision 5510 laptop if the Cisco Systems VPN Client 64-bit software is installed and especially if Symantec Endpoint Protection exists on the laptop together with Cisco VPN (Symantec Endpoint Protection can manage the enabling and disabling of a wired ethernet connection).
To give some background, I provide I.T. support for a company that has deployed Dell laptops to its staff for many years.  In our environment, our Dell laptops run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  In this environment in the past, we've never had any issues using the Cisco Systems VPN Client with any Dell laptop that either has a built-in ethernet port or a USB ethernet dongle (including the Dell Precision 5510 when used with its included USB-C ethernet dongle).  But I've discovered ethernet connectivity problems from the WD15's wired ethernet connection when used with a Dell 5510 when Cisco VPN is installed (regardless of whether or not a VPN connection is active).
With the WD15 connected to the 5510 and with a wired network connection attached to the WD15, if Cisco VPN is installed and if Symantec Endpoint Protection is not installed, when after starting up Windows 7 and then logging into Windows, sometimes within the first few minutes, the wired ethernet connection will then drop connection (an exclamation mark will appear over the wired network icon on the taskbar of Windows). ... Hi,
I want to purchase the following memory upgrade:
Vengeance® Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 SODIMM 3000MHz CL16 Memory Kit (CMSX32GX4M2A3000C16)

how can i know if it will fit with my dell precision 5510  - intel core i7-6820HQ ?

A:Is a memory card upgrade fits with dell precision 5510?

You'll need to ask Corsair (or your vendor) about compatibility.
You do not need memory at 3 GHz -- if it does work, it'll simply downclock to your system's rated speed.  The added speed is designed for overclocking (which your system can't do).
