I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What app are you trying to use with the insert key?

For example, newer versions of MS Word have that key disabled by default

I'm using Excel 2010 and when I right-click on a row or column, the Insert/Insert cut/copied context specific options are greyed out. The options work when I open excel in safe mode.

This happens in all workbooks, including brand new ones. I've looked through the Excel Options but can't find anything.

Any ideas?

I have a friend who's computer works great on my network and my computer works great on his network, but when his computer is hooked to his network internet connectivity is slow and intermittantly fails.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

Hi, I purchased a X380 Yoga two weeks ago and realized when I received it that:- there was no separate [Insert] key- and the Insert function was not by default on the [End/Insert] key.I clearly didn't pay attention to this detail prior to purchase the laptop. For left handed people, it's a major issue! We place the mouse on the left of the keyboard and we use the [Shift]+[Delete], [Ctrl]+[Insert] and [Shift]+[Insert] shortcuts located on the right of the keyboard for Cut/Copy/Paste (instead of [Ctrl]+[X], [Ctrl]+[C] and [Ctrl]+[V] located on the left of the keyboard).https://lifehacker.com/three-keyboard-shortcuts-left-handers-can-actually-use-1548841723https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut,_copy,_and_paste#Common_keyboard_shortcuts Problem, on the X380 Yoga:- there's no separate [Insert] key,- the Insert function is not by default on the [End/Insert] key,- the [FnLock] key does not affect the [End/Insert] key,- I can't find any Lenovo setting to swap the End and Insert functions to set Insert by default- and using [Fn]+[**bleep**]+[Insert] is also not an option as you need 2 hands and keys are 1 on the left and 2 on the right of the keyboard. In fact, it looks like this [End/Insert] key has been an issue on several laptops for at least 5 years now!In most cases, people wanted Fn keys by default, BUT... [FnLock] was also swaping the End and Insert functions, and right handed people were complaining about it as they had very rare use of the Insert function...htt... Read more

My brother got a X240 with a regular 1TB HDD, and I'm looking to help him with upgrading to an internal SSD for the OS/Apps. I first thought it just used a regular mSATA, but it apparently uses a new style called M.2.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find any info on what's supported, how large can they be, etc...

My local computer store has this for M.2 in 512gb size, would this fit in the X240?

A:X240 M.2 SSD

Howdy HiVolt,

I don't think that one will fit.  There are several different lengths of m.2 SSDs and the one in the X240 is 42mm.  The one you linked is longer than that.

Up until recently the highest capacity 42mm part was 128GB IIRC, but I think someone has come out with a 256GB 42mm unit.  [edit] I'm not able to verify that just now.  [more edit] Yes I am.  See post below.

Here's their compatibility list.  Please note I have no personal experience with this company.

A:Old drivers for X240

Hello and welcome,

I don't have a direct answer but there may be a way to finesse this.

Just did some poking around in the Win 7 wifi drivers.  Using the 64-bit Win 7 Intel driver,  I copied the link to the latest and replaced the "version" part of the link with an older version extracted from the readme.

I was able to download nz0wh0w 2016/05/10 by modifying the link to the latest version.

Does that or similar get you what you need?

I?m unsure if I?m doing the right thing here, never posted anything like this before. The X240 laptop I have was working yesterday, and I put it to sleep so I could continue working later. However now it won?t turn on at all, except the lights over the F1 key, F4 key, and Fn are on. It wasn?t plugged in, but this has never happened before. I?ve also taken out the battery in a myriad of different methods people have suggested online but there?s been no mention of the lights still on.  If if I could get some help, that?d be great. I recently purchased a refurbished x240 - I am having 2 issues, which I would welcome help with: 1. the areas with buttons on the top and bottom of the track pad also move the cursor - this often causes an inaccuracy, with the cursor moving slightly before or after pressing one of these buttons - is there anything which can do done about this, or is it a design fault? 2. my computer arrived with no internal battery, just a 6-cell external battery - the seller claims that the internal battery only functions if the external battery is a 3-cell, and that there is therefore no point in me purchasing an internal battery - can this be verified? Thanks for your help!

Hello, In short, fn key does not work in lenovo x240 with latest bios update (2.35). I can swap fn and ctrl keys, and then function keys works via the ctrl key, but the fn key does not work as ctrl. I think this problem is OS independent (tried w10, w7, ubuntu). I have tried installing older bios for this model from the following page:https://support.lenovo.com/es/en/olddownloads/ds035950 But I can only install a few of the newest ones, as the older ones report that they are not compatibles with my system (though the readme says w7-w10 compatibility). No luck with any of the ones I could install. I also tried the hotkey features integration from here, no luck either:http://support.lenovo.com/es/en/downloads/ds029026  This question has been answered a gazillion times, but ill do it one more time as there is no solution posted anywhere. Hello,I'm sitting here absolutely confounded. I just reinstalled Windows on my x240 and decided that, while I was at it, I might as well remove my BIOS password, as I am no longer in school. I primarily use my laptop at home, so a password isn't really necessary.I go into the BIOS and straight to the security tab. I start disabling everything that is enabled and related to Supervisor password, Boot-up password, Start-up password and so forth. At one point, I am prompted to type in my current password and next to fill in my new password and to type it in once more. Being somewhat familiar with how unintuitive a BIOS can be, I leave the fields where I have to type in my new password blank, thinking that the BIOS will then assume that I want to have no password. I leave the fields empty and hit ENTER. It accepts this for some reason. I get a system halt for some reason and my laptop reboots. I am then prompted to type in my BIOS password as per usual, but it won't accept the password I usually use, which means there's an active password, but no longer the one that I've set prior to this. I try different passwords, I try just hitting ENTER, but no luck.I am locked out of my laptop and every Google result even remotely related to my issue suggests that I have to purchase a new motherboard for my x240. Really?I did not set a new password, I left the fields BLANK and hit ENTER. I have no idea what the password could be.I figured perhaps the BIOS password reverts to a prior password,... Read more

A:Lenovo x240 LOCKED OUT

Ok, this is embarassing but it might be something to learn from.I just remembered the very first BIOS password I set. I tried it, and it worked. Leaving the fields blank caused my BIOS to revert to the earliest password, which is the password I set prior to the one I am using now.Either that, or my supervisor password and my start-up password were different.Anyway, feel free to mark my thread as resolved or just delete it.

Hi My X240 needs 17s until the first message appears on the screen.Usually this takes about 2s (no matter whether Quick Boot is on or off).Everything else works fine. By searching for similar problems I found about a dozen threads covering the same topic (for other models), but no solution. The laptop has the newest BIOS (2.40). Unfortunately I can not test any downgrade, because of security reasons. I tried to force a downgrade by extracting the BIOS files and by using a generic flash tool, but I did not succeed. If someone knows how to do that, please let me know. Resetting the BIOS did not help.In the last few days I tried almost every combination of BIOS settings, but no success. I should mention, that the Intel AMT has been configured to be permanently off. I should also mention, that for testing purposes I'm using a minimalistic setup: the naked mainboard just with the CPU cooler, a DRAM module, and a SSD is hooked onto a docking station. Any help greatly appreciated. regardsEdmund

Hi,I bought a Thinkpad X240 a few months ago, it was working perfectly except the know bug of the "bottom left corner" which happened a few times. But a few days ago, the screen backlight suddenly stopped working. I put it to sleep, I came back home, I opened the lid and the screen didn't light up.The screen itself works perfectly (if you put a light on it you can see what's displayed), and there's no other problem. This doesn't seem to be a software problem since I doesn't work in the BIOS, nor in Windows or Linux.. Why does the backlight would suddenly stop working ? Thanks in advance,

A:Thinkpad X240 no backlight

Same here. The backlight is out in the bios as well so I believe mine is a hardware problem. For other thinkpads, I find people saying this is a surface mount fuse on the motherboard and can be "fixed" by bridging the fuse with solder. But I can't find a fuse near the display port that is bad. The most likely fuse I find is F2 on the backside of the board near the display port, but it doesn't measure as an option circuit so I don't think that one is bad. I will probably buy another broken laptop and swap parts.

My Thinkpad X240 only comes with an external battery pack, no internal.  I usually power down my laptop at the end of the day.  The following day it won't power on.  I have to remove and re-insert back the battery pack before it turns on. If I power down and leave the laptop for 2hrs it will power up without me having to remove and re-insert back the battery pack.  But if I leave the laptop powered down for more than 3hrs I have to do the process to turn it back on. The battery charges normally, I usually get 4hrs out of the 6 cell pack. I ran the Lenovo Solution Center Comprehensive Tests, no errors found.  I also did the rest button but it won't power on without going thru the process of battery removal.

Read the PSREF for x240 options:SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, removable, upgradableDouble-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with WWAN cardSingle-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with Smart Card readerSo x240 can be configured even with 3 drives simultaneously:- 2.5" SSD or HDD- m.2 SSD- m.2 cache SSDWWAN card could be installed instead of the 2nd m.2 SSD, seems PFREF has a fault, look at the HMM for confirmation. If you purchase x240 from the shop.lenovo there is a couple conditions:- in order to get 3rd m.2 slot and cache SSD you should choose basic model with HDD. System Expansion Slot for the cache m.2 SSD will be added automatically; - or choose the model with 2.5" SSD. In this case you should add Smart Card Reader which could be equipped with 3rd m.2 SSD slot. But it's not all - you should find on aftermarket or purchase from Lenovo service center adapter and cable for the 3rd m.2 SSD youself. Look at x240' HMM and fru_bom file for details.Note cache m.2 SSD from Lenovo has a small capacity, so you should replace it to your choice. The only limitation is the formfactor - it should be single-sided 22x42 mm to fit into the slot. So the nomenclature and capacity are limited.

Greetings,I have Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Laptop Configuration is following: i7-4600U(3.3GHz), 8GB RAM, 1TB 5400rpm HD, 12.5in 1366x768 LCD, ...Currently trying to do an upgrade. Already decided for SSD upgrade and now checking the RAM upgrade.Unfortunatly, I have found out that X240 has only one memory slot. Also I have found out following information: "Haswell processors all can take only 8GB UDIMMs or SO-DIMMs". Am I right understanding that RAM upgrade (e.g. to DDR3L SODIMM 16Gb, 1600MHz, CL11, 1.35V) is not possible at all? Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody, yesterday my X240 didn't wake up from sleep properly (LED backlight went on, nothing else happened), so I tried to restart it. When I hit the power button, the following happens:The power button LED and the Fn key LED light up and stay on.The red F1 and F4 LEDs briefly light up, as well as the keyboard backlight, but those go out after less than a second.I can hear some faint noise, the fan probably.Screen stays dark, no backlight. Connecting an external monitor does not help. I have tried to remove the power supply and external battery, pressed the Power button for 30 seconds, hit the emergency reset button, no results. Any ideas?
