Omnibook 6000 PS2 Mouse nonfunctional

Q: Omnibook 6000 PS2 Mouse nonfunctional

I tried swapping in a known-good mouse and this failed to resolve the problem. I entered BIOS setup and ensured that both the touchpad and PS2 mouse were configured to work. I uninstalled the mouse drivers and rebooted so Windows2000 would detect and install the mouse. After Windows had installed the Mouse it functioned fine however when logged out and then back in the mouse failed to work again. I flashed the BIOS on the laptop with the latest version (downloaded from HPs Omnibook support site). I installed Windows 2000 SP2. I then removed the mouse drivers again and rebooted. As of this time the issue remains unresolved. The PS2 mouse will not function. The laptop is otherwise funtional, however, and the user can navigate using the touchpad, keyboard, and pointing stick. Incidentally....Event viewer shows no errors....

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Are you using a Synaptec's (sp?) Touchpad (which my lappy has)? If so, you should be able to go into control panel - mouse, and there should be some settings (over and above the default windows mouse settings if you have the synaptec drivers) to have the ps2 mouse enabled as well as the touchpad. You may also want to check out device manager and ensure that there's no conflicts between user input devices.

If you aren't using a Synaptec touchpad.. then ugh.. you may need to contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance.

I just got this laptop yesterday and it was working fine. The specs are HP Omnibook 6000/P3 800 MHZ/128 RAM/20 GIG/8X DVD. Today the laptop works fine in the morning, but in the afternoon it starts freezing a lot. Then it keeps getting worse and worse. It froze when it was loading windows 2000. The worse is right now when I turn it on but nothing shows up on the screen. I think its the hard drive so I took out the hard drive and turned it on. With and without the hard drive, the laptop still turned on and nothing shows up on the screen so I think that the hard drive died or something. Also, when I took out the hard drive, I hear a loose piece inside when I shake the hard drive. I Don't know what exactly the problem is, so please tell me if its a software or hardware problem. Please tell me what I should do.

Win 7 on C: drive (rather old installation with other evident MINOR problems, but functional until this problem), separate D: drive for data. Logitech wireless mouse with USB dongle/receiver rather erratic recently (few days or few weeks?), cursor arrow sometimes froze, then cursor arrow moved erratically to desired site when mouse shaken, persisted thru multiple reboots. Tried new battery in mouse w/o benefit. Removed dongle from USB port and replaced in same USB port. Mouse completely dead and cursor immobile (or absent) ever since then. Tried another mouse (verified it worked in another computer before and after test in problem computer) w/o benefit. Moved dongle/receiver to other mobo USB ports and to other USB ports on PCIe card w/o benefit. Switched in new HDD with separate and almost new Win 7 installation (C: drive only) w/o other evident problems, same result. Almost new mobo, CPU, and DDR3 RAM. Now reboots stall at user/password screen because cannot move cursor to choose any user account or enter password, so locked out of any computer use (including control panel). Cannot get into computer to try restore, to reinstall driver (should be native to Win 7 anyway), or to download or run TSG SysInfo. HELP!

Hello Thanks for reading and I know this problem has been on here one too many times but im just very curious as to asking these certain questions before progressing onto what I think I should do.

My problem is that I recently bought a 7870 HIS IceQ mainly for the cooling system it comes with.
Now I had installed it (carefully no static shocks nothing like that) into my PC. Now when I boot it up I get no signal and my keyboard and mouse are getting NO power at all. Now the curious part..
my pc came with a HD 7670. Thats it. No VGA output on my motherboard.Which makes me think..do I need to change something in BIOS? Does my PC only detect that 7670 because it came with it? And yes I plugged in the PCIe power connecters too.

Now to what I think I should do based on reading through the forums..
Cmos Reset
And thats basically it

Here is a detailed Spec list.
Name: HPE Phoenix
HD 7670 1gb DDR5
AMD FX 8120 3.1Ghz
4x2 Ram DDR3
ThermalTake TR2 700w PSU
Motherboard is a Gigabyte 2AC8 model
BIOS is AMI Ang_717 4/13/2012
2TB hardrive

ANY help is very much appreciated. Ive been on this problem for a while now .

A:New Card. No signal. Keyboard and Mouse nonfunctional

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Make sure everything is properly fitted and in the right place. When you replaced the GPU - Is that the only component you unplugged and removed? Try putting in the old card to see if it works. If it does, you could have a bad GPU.

Hello, I have a MS Wireless Comfort Keyboard and Mouse 6000 and have the Intellipoint and Intellitype 6.1 software for them. The keyboard and mouse lately have been acting squirrelly, for instance, when I hold down 'w' in a game to move forward, it will stop and I have to release and repress. The mouse is also acting a little jumpy. It felt like the batteries were running low so I checked the two programs above to look at the battery indicators and surprisingly, they were both 'good' and fully green. I have had those batteries installed for at least 3 months. I changed the batteries anyways to see if it made a difference. They didn't. In fact, when I took out the batteries altogether, they battery indicator still read full. Has anyone heard of the program not updating itself? The issue is new and yes, I have played the game for months now without the issue. Thanks guys!!

Hoping this is a simple fix.....
the scrolling on my mouse is choppy, when I scroll an IE page it has like a delay? Its not a smooth scroll. I have been all over my manual and support for it and cannot find anything that will change this. The settings offer up slow-fast options but it only causes the page to flip faster or slower duh lol sorry I am at a loss as to how to describe this. Let me know if I can tell you anything that would be of help.

A:MFST wireless laser mouse 6000

No one familiar? I have been digging but cannot find a solution. This really seems to be a simple fix with-in the controls but there is not any option that corrects this. You scroll and the page moves with a delay and a line as if going page by page. I had first thought it was a setting within IE but it also does this in notebook and other software programs. Even sliding the sidebar vs. scroll is choppy. Any suggestion would be nice thank you.

New Years Greetings!
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 (March 2007) with Vista.

I just installed the Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000...several times in fact!
First time it worked. Then after rebooting, it came up with a message with 3 choices:
- install driver (had already done that)
- don't ask again
- (I forget what this said)
So I said "don't ask again" and that's when the mouse went dead! Argh!
After uninstalling and installing from the disk TWICE, (pressing all the correct buttons on the transmitter and mouse and unconnecting the USB before this)
I finally downloaded the driver from online just in case it was the driver that came on the disc. It is Driver Version
Finally got it to work, HOURS LATER! but not on my mouse USB port which is the PS/2 Port that says IRQ 0x0000000C (12)

I had to move the USB connector to another port.
I spent [email protected]! trying to install and uninstall this and am coming to the conclusion that VISTA is the problem. Am I right?
I went to all the help features and did all the right things.
Device Manager says this new mouse is there. Says it is working properly.
But then nothing happened until I moved it to another port.
I would like to plug the USB into the normal mouse port. But it probably won't work. Why?
Am seriously considering a Mac for the first time since I started using a computer in 1980s! Thanks for any and all suggestions. Cheers!

I just bought a Microsoft laser mouse 6000 from Newegg (specs here). I'm trying to get the back and forward buttons working in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty). I did some modifications to configuration files as suggested by Google search results. Unfortunately, that screwed it up so that the scroll wheel controls back and forward, and the real back and forward buttons don't work at all.

The imwheelrc config file (/etc/X11/imwheel/imwheelrc) says that the xf86config file needs to allow for enough mouse buttons. But locating xf86config in the terminal returns nothing.

What can I do??

I am having 2 issues with a Latitude 5480 and a Dock 6000.
the first issue is I've been experiencing an issue with my Latitude 5480 that I have finally been able to troubleshoot down to the Dock 6000 being the culprit.

I have a Latitude 5480 running Windows 10. I have the Dock 6000 connected using USB C, which also has a number of USB devices connected to it, as well as 2 24" monitors using a the display ports. I use a wireless Logitech mouse connected via the standard Logitech receiver.

My issue is that my mouse cursor constantly blinks and is basically unusable when using the Citrix Reciever (er. 4.9).  I am unable to use the minimize, maximize, or close buttons in the upper right.  The file menus will sometimes appear but disappear before I can select anything.

During my troubleshooting (reinstalling both System-level mouse drivers and Logitech mouse drivers, disabling all Startup items, disabling non-Microsoft services, etc.) I was not able to fix the issue, until I started checking the Docking Station itself.

I have tried undocking the 5480, and connecting my Logitech wireless USB mouse directly to the 5480's USB port, and connecting my external monitor, and the cursor problem does NOT occur, which also leads me to believe the Docking Station is at fault. It does not appear to be an issue with the wireless mouse receiver. I've also unplugged ALL of my USB devices from the Dock as well, and the cursor problem remains.

Do I have any options?... Read more

Usually, a mouse driver isn't needed. If not, try rolling back the driver to the previous one, or just uninstalling it in control panel.

Hey, I recently bought a Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2, and when I put the install CD in, it says it is not compatible with my version of windows which is Windows 7. Only problem is whenever I try to open the Control Panel for the mouse, to change my buttons or something, nothing happens. It shows a loading cursor and than stops. I've tried reinstalling the program, and I dunno whats wrong. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone has some suggestions for my new problem.

The problem:

My new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 installs on my laptop the way any normal mouse should. I have since decided to use this new mouse on my desktop PC instead, which was successfully using a wired mouse. When plugging the new mouse in, the New Hardware Wizard could not install the mouse. On top of all this, when I reverted back to my old "wired" mouse, the wizard could not install this mouth either. Something has gone wrong and now I can't install any mice. I have tried all three mice that I own, and it seems that my computer is just having trouble installing mice in general. All the mice install fine on other computer.

-wizard says, "cannot install this hardware"
-mouse is listed in DEVICE MANAGER as "other device" with a yellow exclamation mark
-pointer arrow remains in the middle of screen, mouse doesn't work to move it around.
-USB ports work fine for my other USB devices. I've tried them all
-Microsoft Intellipoint software is up to date, installed and seemingly ok when I open it in control panel

Already done:
-tried replacing DRIVER.CAB from WinXP installation disc
-tried uninstalling the mouse in DEVICE MANAGER, unistalling Intellipoint, and starting the whole process over again.
-tried changing channels from the mouse to the receiver, but that isn't relevant to the problem anyways since I know the mouse w... Read more

Hope I don't have to buy a new set right now, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

I am a huge fan of the right-click function of the mouse.

Yesterday morning, it was working fine, but later in the day the right-click action quit working. No response at all. The left button, wheel, and other buttons are working fine. I use the right button a lot, did I say A LOT? Mainly for cut-and-paste (at least it was, yesterday.)
Keyboard is working fine, also. Batteries are good. Signal is good. I suspect I wore the little guy out.

Suggestions? or, recommendations for replacement. I like the "comfort keyboard" in this set. The curvature is not as pronounced as the earlier Microsoft Natural keyboards. Not split in the middle.

Thanks for listening to me whine. BTW, running Windows XP Home, in case that matters.

Accidents happen when you get too sure of yourself. Yesterday in copying my weekly Acronis TrueImage8.0 to a second internal HD I came back into the office and noticed it was attempting to copy Drive "D" not "C," the primary drive. Drive "D"(80 GB) is devoted entirely to the AcronisSecureZone, the name for its proprietary cache. TrueImage promptly stopped loading and asked me to cancel which it refused to do. Hit the panic button and rebooted only to get the following message after the Bios flash: FIXMBR error No. 3. I then ran the Windows Recovery Manager for FIXMBR told me that there was an unauthorized startup and deleted it accordingly. But on reboot, the error message was the same. I then opened the case and disengaged the "D" drive and the system(XP Home) booted up normally. I turned off the machine, re-engaged "D" and ran the Western Digital wipe utility which I was sure would solve the problem. After wiping the disk and rebooting I got the same FIXMBR error No. 3. I should say I have an external(40 GB) HD which I am using for Acronis backups but I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get my 80 GB "D" drive back.

A:Second internal HD(Drive 1)nonfunctional

Wipe justs erases the whole disk, right? What if you formatted D drive from windows disk manager? This would actually create an NTFS partition and Master Boot Record (MBR) from scratch on the drive. Just an idea....

I was recently experiencing a flurry of blue screens, and after an aggressive hardware purge (mobo, ram, cpu, gpu) and an ensuing reformat, I can declare an expensive victory over the bsods.

However, I noticed that now when I go into standby mode, it will shut down instead. Windows will not load properly afterwards since all that will be displayed is a blank screen and I'll have to press the restart button. Someone told me that perhaps my ram isn't getting enough voltage.

On another note, I also noticed that my computer doesn't have the option to hibernate anymore.

After a reinstall, you may need to unset and set again (with a reboot between) some of the power-saving settings - see control panel. There is a check-box for enable hibernation, for instance. Unfortunately, a power or other hardware problem such as HDD failing is also likely.

I have experienced similar problems with standby/hibernation, which were down to not having ANY pagefile.sys on the C: drive as I had long-ago moved it to a second hard drive. That second drive eventually began to, and eventually did, fail completely.

For about the past two weeks I've been unable to utilize any JavaScript-supported code on webpages I pull up online. I use IE 6, and even installed Netscape 7.1 to see if it was an IE problem. Any link on a page that depends on JavaScript fails.

I've checked to see that JavaScript is enabled, and gone to various webpages that check for Java and JavaScript. They all pan out okay. I reinstalled IE. No change. I reinstalled a "scripten.exe" patch from Microsoft. No luck. I turned off all startup programs, and disabled firewall and popup-blocking software. Nothing has helped.

I'd let this go for now, but I can't pay some bills online while this problem exists. Any clues -- ever heard of this problem? I can't find anything relevant from Microsoft's website, and the problem itself prevents me from using the newsgroups effectively.

I am scratching my head over a serious problem which has rendered Windows explorer (explorer.exe) next to nonfunctional. I hid my desktop icons by right clicking the desktop --> Arrange Icons by --> [unchecked the checked option]Show desktop icons. After this, any window requiring explorer.exe, such as opening folders, viewing network connections etc. do not work. Icons such as Network connections, Volume control, Safely remove devices are not displayed in the system tray; however, other programs such as Avast, Truecrypt can show their icons on the desktop. USB devices, when connected, are not making sounds.

Right clicking on the desktop to revert the option is impossible as the right-click menu itself is not being displayed; restarting did not work. In safe mode, however, I can open windows like my folders, Network connections etc. although with quite long delays of 4-6 seconds. Reverting the option from safe mode did display my desktop icons, but only in Safe mode and not in the normal mode.

Ideas, anyone?

A:Linksys router nonfunctional

Welcome to TSG.
By hard reset do you mean holding the reset button down for at least 15 seconds.
That resets everything including userid/password to factory default.
If there were any special config setting, they also have been reset.
While connected, can you log onto the router.Probably
Probably admin/admin
If you can, make sure encryption is not enabled. and mac address filtering is not enabled.Probably should not be after a reset, but check it.
Here is a tutorial to check basic connections and resets. If it works connected,we should be able to get wireless up pretty quickly.
Also is this a cable or dsl connection?
Basic network setup procedure

From a Johnwill tech tip:

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.
• Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
• Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
• Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
• Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.

I have been able to solve them all up until now. I have no clue what's wrong, and stupid me, I never backed it up so anyway, currently my computer won't go on the internet (doesn't think it has a wifi card installed) won't play audio (doesn't think it has speakers--haunt tried plugging in external ones, but my guess is it would work fine) won't open any Microsoft office programs or files (no clue why) won't recognize my external hard drive, or flash drive, or any USB device. I have a brand new Inspiron 13 5368 (arrived less than six hours ago as of this writing) and the speakers don't appear to work at all.  I've rebooted, disabled Intel Display Audio, and updated the device driver (and subsequently rebooted three more times), all to no effect.  I can get audio through the headphone jack no problem.  I've gone into the BIOS to confirm that audio is enabled (it is) and into diagnostics to run a speaker test (I heard nothing).
My thinking is that that last thing is the important part, and the speaker test not working indicates that, well, the speakers aren't working--they're defective, or got damaged during shipping.  Does that sound right, or have I missed something?

Andrew, that's correct -- the speakers are either damaged or disconnected, if no sound is heard during the test called ePSA "perform quick audio check". It's a hardware test and not susceptible to problems that might otherwise be caused by the audio driver, mis-configuration, or Windows.

My sister is running XP Home Edition version 5.1.2600 SP1 Build 2600 on her computer. It seems that it has been hijacked. The home page opens up to: http://nowfind.biz/search.php?q=free e card -- popups are rampant and no url seems to work in the address bar. I typed in www.yahoo.com, for example, and the url automatically switched to http://unimax.us/search.php?q=cheap hotels. Internet Explorer is the only browser that she has on her computer (bless her heart). I searched this forum for a possible solution before posting this thread, but everywhere I looked, people already had Hijackthis and posted a log, or they could go and DL it. Sis does not have Ad-Aware, Spybot, Hijackthis, or anything else yet. They have relied only on the XP firewall. The problem I can't seem to get around is that I can't go ANYWHERE to DL these programs on that computer. I can't go anywhere period. No matter what I type into the address bar, I get redirected. It won't even let me go to TechSupportGuy -- imagine that! So, I am submitting this from my own computer. Can anyone advise me on how to go about getting this straightened out?
Many thanks.

Just upgraded to Windows 8 via clean install.

Everything seemed to be working OK, and then I noticed that I was not able to mount an .iso. Looking a little closer, I noticed that my DVD and BD drives were missing. I have checked for updates, but everything seems to be up-to-date. I have also tried a few restarts, but no luck.

Looked at bios but DVD and BD drives are present.

Tried unplugging and plugging in drives, but still no change.

Looked at hardware manager and I see exclamation points by all items under the DVD/CD-ROM drive category (including virtual drives as a result of attempting a mount). Specifically, here is the error I get:

'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'

I did not mess around with the registry to cause a problem.

Tried updating drivers, but no luck. Tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers, but also no luck. Tried uninstalling drivers and reboot, but same result.

Any ideas?

A:Code 19: DVD, BD, virtual drives all nonfunctional

After screwing around with this for 2 days, I decided the hell with it: I'm not that invested yet in my build; its a good time to start over (again).

So I again completed a fresh install of 8. I suppose I should have just done this from the start, as ever since windows 7 I've found that installing a new OS is quite simple and not as time intensive as it was in the 'old days'. I.E, no need to spend hours loading drivers and crap like that. Windows 8 also makes it a little easier, since once I logged in using my Hotmail account all of my settings automatically ported back to my machine.

Although I'm not interested in doing this on a weekly (or monthly basis), my threshold for a clean install should probably move lower than it has in the past. I mean, I think for SNAFUS, it is likely much faster and with much less frustration and tears to just start clean than spend hours searching for solutions, trying them out, and still get nowhere.

But MS be warned: although I have been a strong supporter for years - your competitor continues to gain traction. I likely will not be as forgiving if silly quirks continue. (although no doubt that Apple is not immune to its own stupid problems).

Hello Everyone.

I have been searching all over the web for literally weeks and have made tiny incremental steps toward finding my total solution. I have successfully cloned my original factory hdd and the clone boots and runs the laptop just fine. There is one issue, though, for which I still need assistance. The Lenovo Onekey tool is unable to reboot into recovery mode to perform a factory reset. This issue does not exist on the original hdd.

After much research online, I have been able to determine that it is simply a matter of the software being "confused." The program apparently uses information within the reagentc.xml file, to know where on the hdd it will find the required recovery partitions. On the cloned drive, the reagentc.xml file needs to bu updated with the correct location /ID info for the cloned drive.

All I need now are the command line instructions (with explanations, if possible) that will allow me to correctly update the appropriate config file (reagentc.xml), so that Lenovo Onekey can find the required recovery partition(s). I ask for explanations because if I understand exactly what I am typing on the command line, and what each part of the command does, then I will be better armed for any minor issues still needing to be tweaked, and for future situations.

For those interested, I am using a Lenovo G510 i5 Win 8.1 on 500GB hdd. The clone is also 500GB, though of different brand.

Also, the cloning was performed by installing the blank (spar... Read more

A:cloned HDD Recovery Partition Nonfunctional

To paraphrase Mssr Holmes, once all of the lies have been proven, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the truth.

The most common opinion stated throughout all of the comments in all of the forums to which I posted my query was that of the unlikelihood of a clone functioning differently than the original. So in my attempts to prove them wrong, I decided to verify that the original did not in fact have the same symptom as the clone.

Can somebody tell me which emoticon represents egg on one's face?

Lo and behold, the original now has the exact same issue as the clone, which proves that the popular opinion was correct and that my copy truly is an exact clone of the original.

So now my question should be "why did the original lose the ability to locate and boot into the recovery partition?" But you know what? I don't care. I was only waiting until I finished this particular project before wiping my drive and installing Linux as the primary OS, then using virtualbox to run vpc for any other OS I choose to play with.

I really appreciate all of the feedback I received. Thanks for being such a supportive group!

I can't seem to find drivers that work with the built-in webcam of my Y700-15ISK (came preinstalled with Win10 64-bit).I uninstalled my drivers to update them for a newer version, but it turned out the ones from the Y700 support page don't match my hardware and as such won't install. My laptop has a Realtek camera, the ones on the driver page list a bundle for AVC, Bison, Chicony and Intel. So I went back to my c:\drivers\camera folder and installed what I assume to be the native drivers, but while these do install without errors, my webcam remains nonfunctional. It's not being recognized by windows at all, it's just sitting at the bottom of my device manager as an 'Unknown USB-device (device descriptor request failed)'. Lenovo Settings also no longer shows a tab for Camera, though Windows does still have the webcam privacy tab in the config menu (not sure if indicative for webcam presence or default Win10 page). The webcam worked just fine up until the last moment and I strongly doubt the hardware randomly broke at the exact same time I uninstalled the previous drivers, so something seems to be borked on the software side. Screenshot from Device Manager: http://i.imgur.com/cqc7nfY.jpg(I've tried hitting the 'uninstall driver' button to see if it would catch onto the actual driver installation after rebooting, but no luck there either) Does anyone know how I can get the camera functional again?(And on a side not... My problem is with one program in particular. I've used it before on a laptop with a larger screen and I know that the buttons I need to access in order to make this program function correctly are at the bottom of the program's window.

However, Windows 7 will not allow me to move my mouse off of the screen, and since the only place that I can 'grab' this program's window is on the bar at the top, I can't move the window and then resize it to access the buttons.

In short, I need some way to either:
- Move the window without using the mouse (I've tried the Right-click -> Move option, that still snaps my mouse onto the bar at the top, which means I still can't move it)
- Increase my screen's resolution beyond the limits that the Control Panel will allow (I'm already at 1024x800, which is the max allowed there)
- Add a scroll-bar to the program itself, if that's even possible.
- Any other solution that you guys can think of

Thanks in advance

A:Screen size too small - program becomes nonfunctional

Well, I managed to circumvent the problem by blindly fumbling around with the Tab key to select the button I needed.

It'd still be nice to know if there's a more practical way of dealing with this problem, though.

Will the "NextWindow Voltron Touch Screen" driver (version, 2/4/2013)--firmware--whatever, EVER be updated to restore Touch Screen functionality in the HP TouchSmart 300-1020 all-in-one computer?  After upgrading to Windows 10, Touch Screen functionality is gone, Gone, GONE.  (I do realize it is an older model, and so I hold little faith the Touch Screen functionality can be restored; however, IF IT WILL one day happen, please advise.)  Thanks a bunch! PS (to save time)   Same question for the "HP Camera" driver (version 10.0.10586.0, 6/21/2006)--firmware--whatever.  The HP Camera also does not function after Windows 10 upgrade.  Thanks again!!

Hey Everybody.

I have an HP OMNIBOOK 4150B. I installed Win XP pro and it ran great. Fixed a bunch of things actually. I lost some minor functionality but that wasn't a big deal. The problem was that when I booted up the computer without it being plugged in(AC), it would freeze up after 30 seconds or so. So basically my laptop became a very portable desktop.

I reinstalled the recovery CD (win 98) and it solved the problem. However, I would really like to run XP with my OMNIBOOK....there must be a way to do it.

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem or if anyone knew how to fix it.

Anyone know where to get all the drivers?

My computer's so messed up that it took my 20 minutes just to get this site up to post.

What I think is a fake Windows Updater keeps downloading malware on my computer and it barely runs. I've scanned with multiple scanning systems which have found trojans, malware, a rootkit and adware. Each time after the removal process, it seems that my computer runs worse, and of course, every time I restart the computer that fake downloader downloads a bunch of crap back on it.

Please, please help! It'd be much appreciated.

The following concerns an HP Omnibook XE3 GF Notebook, running Windows
XP Pro.

Occasionally the screen blanks (completely black) as though the
machine were in standby mode. This may happen soon after booting or
after several hour's use. It may happen more than once on one day, or
maybe it doesn't happen for a couple of weeks.

After power-switch off, or hardware-reset, to shut down the machine,
the standby button re-boots it, but the display is _not_ restored.

However, the display _can_ be restored by: power-switch off, unplug
the power cord, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, replace
battery and power cord, press standby button to re-boot.

Having removed/replaced the battery, following a screen blank, Windows
insists on performing a consistency check on the FAT32 hard drive, at
next boot. The last time this happened two errors were found:

Windows will now check the disk.
Volume Serial Number is 2C77-3ED5
\WINDOWS\Prefetch\LOGONUI.EXE-0AF22957.pf first allocation unit is
not valid. The entry will be truncated.
\WINDOWS\Prefetch\NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.pf first allocation unit is
not valid. The entry will be truncated.
Convert lost chains to files (Y/N)? Yes
336 KB in 2 recovered files.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

If the screen did not blank, removing/replacing the battery doesn't
cause Windows to perform the hard drive check, at next boot.

I should be grateful for advice as to

why the screen blanks,

why Windows performs a consi... Read more

I have an Hp Omnibook XE2 with only 5 GB of HDD and 64 Mb of RAM, Win 98 SE operating system. On my desktop I use Win XP Pro, and would like to move on to Win XP on my notebook too, preferably without buying a new notebook.

I intend to install maximum RAM (512 Mb) and a Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 HDD. Can anyone advise me if it is worth the effort to upgrade. I would only use Ms Office 2003 applications.

A:Upgrading Hp Omnibook XE2

I've run XP on sub 1Ghz computers before and although it is more stable, it will take a big preformance hit. Just before you dig into it, consider the cost. You can buy a new laptop from Wally World for under $500 when they are overstocked.
