Asus N56vz displaying phantom monitor in display options

Q: Asus N56vz displaying phantom monitor in display options

I recently broke the screen to my asus n56vz. I ended up removing the whole top panel and removing the inverter cord.

I plugged in a external monitor and it worked fine at first. When i restarted i noticed that it starting running hotter and displayed a second option on a 768p monitor. My 1080 aoc was made the main display seen though its not the first monitor its second.

I dont know whats going on. I tried to delete or disable the second monitor but i could not. What should i do?

I used to have 33c temps idle and not its 50c. It used to display only the external monitor. Now it displays 2 and the 2 is my main.

I dont have any recovery or 8.1 disks... I tried a refresh and it said "missing files" so i cant even do that...

Im frustrated that microsoft was no help.
So i am pinning my homes here that someone out there in the world can help me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. So I know there are lots of posts about laptop turning off, yes I read them, and could not find a solution. I did some tests and etc..
So my story is: After like half a year of using my new laptop, It started to shutting down without any warnings at some games (like 50% of any games I tried). But the strangest fact is that it does not depend on how advanced game is.. Some games manage to make my laptop hot as hell and it does not turn off at all. And some small games these don't need many resources, turn my laptop off. Like after 5 min. of gaming... N56VZ is kinda high in resources. 8Gb ram, GT650M video card, i7 processor... Small games should not do a lot of impact on it.. Also on browsing or doing something else does not turn off my laptop, only games.
I tried running without battery, only with battery - result is the same..
I did some stress tests, laptop did not turn off, and results of prime95 you can see in uploaded photos. I ran them like 1 hour each.. http://speedy.sh/yPJSZ/Smal-FFT.bmp and http://www.speedyshare.com/B62C5/Blend.bmp
I also did ZHPDiag test. http://www.speedyshare.com/WHB5P/ZHPDiag.txt
I tried to disable sound driver. Laptop still shut off, but after 30 min. With drivers on, it shuts off in 5 min. Tried to uninstall and download drivers again from asus support page, tried older ones and newer ones, that did not help..
I also tried installing different windows 7 os, and that did not help me.
What could I do? Im annoyed, I would send my lap... Read more

Ok. I tried disabling graphics drivers. It seems that it worked fine. So I uninstalled them and after restart laptop installed by itself new drivers, so far so good. But not sure about updates, I guess I will skip graphics driver updates for some time...

The laptop really only BSOD if i am playing a game or something similar. It does it on windows 7 and 10. If it is a issue with over heating I am not really sure how I can stop it from happening. I also put new thermal pasteon the GPU and CPU hoping that might of been the issue. It seemed to work a little better but it didn't stop the BSOD.

A:Asus N56VZ BSOD (Over heating I Think)

Looking at the report the temps are through the moon! Are you sure both fans are working? Also was there any change with the new paste up or down?

Hello and welcome Wasa mate as a by the by did it download it's driver when you plugged it in as they usually give you a message to say it is installing the software for a drive.

Plus if it did that have you checked in the BIOS ? or DISKPART for this drive?

Post back the machines spec model at least.

Hi All - just joined.

I just removed a NVIDIA GTX 260 and all software and now I cannot get my screen display correct using the blue VGA connector (removed the DVI as my computer does not support one).

Where do I get an driver to support my Asus 22" monitor?

Microsoft display does not offer this resolution. Been on ASUS site and had a look through several pages here, cant find a driver.

A:Asus 22" Monitor wont display 1680x1050

It's not the monitor its a graphics driver issue. You need to go your motherboard manufacturers website and download the correct video or chip-set driver. Even then it might not support that resolution.

Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup.

Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex. left/right/top/bottom).

The left side of my screen extends further than the monitor shows. The windows icons however line up normally. However the screen saver tends to drift into space out the left side of my monitor until eventually drifting back in. The problem began after I upgraded my computer to windows XP. I checked the settings in properties and it shows 2 monitors when I only use one monitor, one monitor,(the secondary) represents my motherboard graphic card and the other monitor, (the primary) represents my manually installed graphic card (voodoo 3, the one that I use). I dont know if this is normal or if it has anything to do with the problem. Any suggestions?

I had 3-way SLI. Removed one card to run benchmarks with 2-way SLI. I opened notepad and it appears to open on a display that is no longer there. I had three displays (each display connected to one GTX980). I now have one display connected to the fist card. I'm running Win7x64 on a Dell Latitute E6400. I'm hooked to a docking station with 2 monitors attached to it.
When I go to adjust screen resolution, I can see both monitors in the control panel and no more... but I can drag windows totally off screen to a 3rd 'ghost' monitor that doesn't seem to exist at all. Running PowerPoint, it gives me an option to launch my
slideshow on 'Monitor 6'. which is the ghost monitor. I'm pretty sure it's not the laptop screen (lid is closed), but can't find where this monitor is configured or how to disable it.
Other colleagues with similar setups don't have this ghost monitor.
Anybody have any ideas?

A:Phantom monitor on Windows 7

Click Start=>Devices and Printers
How many monitors are shown there? Remove or configure monitor 6? if it's there.
Try the Windows (key) + P and select duplicate or extend. (whichever fits your dual configuration)
Finally, with the notebook undocked, check the Fn + keys to enable \disable onboard and external display. Perhaps that's in a both mode, like an undocked presentation, and messing things up.

Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. I was able to use the touch input completely problem-free again and felt happy like a little child, not knowing how much is missed this comfort! The problem w... Read more

I have an unusual, if not pretty, "problem." My laptop is a Samsung (and therefore South Korean) and although Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit being in English, if I try to edit my WLM sounds all I see is presumably Korean symbols rather than English words to name the sounds.

Windows 10.
If I use the Windows Key-X, or click on the windows icon and do a right click, the menu items are displayed but only a few of the menu items actually then do anything if they are selected.
For example clicking on the Control Panel - nothing happens.
If the type Control Panel in the taskbar search box - control Panel is displayed and clicking on that displays the Control Panel.
It was working fine, then suddenly stopped.
I have also tried logging in to another account but the same problem exists.
Any idea how I can get the Windows Key-X menu options to be reset - I have tried a restart, but no change.

I was trying out this cheap game off Steam (Brothers: A tale of two sons), where in the game you control two characters (the sons) and was pressing I believe R-CTRL, Arrow Left, and possibly either ALT or the menu key can't remember. All of the sudden my screen goes black, and I'm like "Alright then".

So I try to press the keys again, nothing. Turn off the PC, turn it back on, and nothing, my keyboard / mouse don't even light up (When I press keys the back lights behind the indicators for the "SCROLL LOCK", "CAPS LOCK", "NUM LOCK" look like they're TRYING to turn on, but don't).

Try turning it off then on a few times, still nothing.

So I switch out my graphics card, boots up like normal, run a BIOS diagnosis, comes back clean so I think sweet, it's fixed. Well I try the other card (One that wasn't working) and same thing happens.

Now I'm thinking MAYBE it's a driver issue (I know, doesn't make sense considering Windows doesn't even boot up, but I'm guessing anything), so I plug in the second card again, and now it doesn't work. I try my onboard, nothing.

I've tried another monitor as well and get the same issue, and no, I can't try the cards in another system, this is my only desktop.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A:Asus M2N32 Cpu options?

Hey there. You can update to that CPU but I would recommend that you go for a newer AM3 quad core by AMD instead. That way if you ever decide to upgrade your motherboard you can buy an AM3 one and the new CPU will work with it.

I recommend that you wait for a while until ASUS has created a BIOS update for that motherboard that allows the newer phenoms as the current one is in BETA testing which I do not recommend.

Keep an eye on this website http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=0jMy2X8lKstYRvev
That is the ASUS page for that motherboard. Have a look at the CPU support list and keep an eye out for newer releases that support the newer AM3 phenom II's

Welcome to TSG!!

If the display is "pink and all broken up", does it look like broken glass designs? It sounds like the LCD glass broke.

With the external monitor, once it boots up and the monitor goes off, can you use the Fn (function) key combination (not sure what it is for those laptops, for Dell it's <Fn><F8>) to set it back to external video mode?

Hello all.  Can anyone please help me?I am having display issues.  I have an HP Stream 11-d006TU, used by my wife. She was in the middle of working on a MS PowerPoint presentation, when the LCD Display went black.   When I hook external display via HDMI to our Sony Bravia TV, it works fine.  I immediately rushed to an open Computer repair shop at a nearby mall, asked a couple of repair guys but they had different opinions:First guy said it is a video card issue.  He tried turning the laptop power button off then back on (which I already did), and just flipped the laptop to check the bottom.Second guy detected that the external display is working, and advised to have the LCD replaced (which costs PhP 3,500 - PhP 4,500 or approximately US$70 - US$90).  I didn't pursue with his repair yet, as I was hesitant that he may just be trying to make a quick buck from me.Can somebody please help?   Can I still try some things before concluding that it's indeed an LCD replacement?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Beardedscot81, and welcome to TSG.

Make causes you to be so sure your computer's hard drive is working fine?

Am I safe to assume that your computer was working OK and now you only get the black screen with a blinking cursor (white bar)?

Does anything appear on the screen before the blinking cursor when you first turn on the computer?

What activity do you observe when you first turn on the computer? Internal self-test beeps? Keyboard LEDs blink on? Do fans start spinning?

Are you able to get into the BIOS settings on power up?

What is the full model number of your computer?

Not all of todays monitors are "backwards compatible". Newer monitors have "minimum" and "maximum" resolutions. If it is a really old computer, It might not meet the "minimum" resolutions for your monitor. Hope this helps.

I've got a very strange problem here with my PC (I'm posting via my roomie's laptop)

When I try to switch my PC on, the monitor does not show anything. It shows 'No Signal' and then displays a bronze colored light on its Power ON/OFF Button (It displays green when it's on and working normally). The DVD trays are opening, the fans are working. During normal cases, the monitor displays this bronze light during the first two seconds of the boot process, and then turns to green, and displays what it had to.

It's not the same as when the monitor's cable itself is removed. In that case it shows 'Cable not Connected'.
I have no idea what's going on. Any help?

The same thing happened yesterday, after a powercut. I tried for a few hours but nothing worked. Finally, I removed the power cable of the computer, and plugged it back in after 10 minutes. It solved the problem (not working today).

The easiest way to isolate the issue would be to unplug all the cables from the back of the tower and the monitor. Then, press and hold the power button to release the residual charge from the system board. Connect all the cables as they were, reboot the system and check if there is any improvement.

Hi there , May the Forums be with you!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.  I understand that your computer seems to be booting up, but there is no display on start up. I am happy to help with this. Since you have already verified your display, did you also test both graphics cards in the other system to be sure they are both good as well? Normally I would recommend that you start with this document:  HP Desktop PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10,8), and you can still do Step 1 and 2. Step 3 from your description, should send you to this: HP Desktop PCs - Computer Starts but Monitor Remains Blank (Windows 10, 8). Just follow it through. Some of it you have already done, but read through it carefully and try everything else. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Well, recently i didn't touch my computer at all.. everything was working good. Then one night, i was on ventrilo talking to my clan. Then my mic stops working So then, i go and check if it works on my brothers computer, and it does ! So i run back to mine, make sure it is plugged in right, check the settings on the volume, control panel.. make sure the mic is on.. i even try it on the voice recorder, and still! doesnt work! so i dont have a mic for a day or two. Then later i look inside my computer, and unplugged some blue things that were on these spikey things, and put this old part that has an audio and microphone port, it didn't work so i unplugged it. Next thing you know.. my audio goes down. I turn off my computer, i plug the little blue things back on and then my audio on one speaker goes on. I go back.. plug them in different places.. then my audio works and one speaker. So i try once more and it detected everything! exept for my dvd drive :/.. so i turn off my computer after my clan scrim, and go back and try and fix it. But then, everything quit displaying on my monitor. I know it isnt the monitor cause iv tried 2, i even tried 2 video cards.. So i am not sure.. iv even plugged everything back to normal. Any suggestions?
sorry if the typing is alittle odd, im on a labtop :S

Hi there. Can you help me please I am operating windows xp out of the blue my monitor is not displaying anything. I have tried another monitor and another lead but to no a ail I'm guessing its a graphic card issue ? The computer is switched on and is running. Thanks pete

A:Monitor not displaying

It's a graphics card issue sure enough, but it's not simply a case of installing a driver but because even without the proper driver you would still get something displayed on the monitor.

Since you've already tried a different monitor and vga cable, your graphics card may have died and you need to replace it.

I've recently got two monitors, but the secondary monitor doesn't show anything. On the screen resolution panel, it detects the second monitor, and when I move the mouse to the side, it acts as though there is a second screen there. However, on my video card control panel (I have an Nvidia GeForce GT 640) It only detects one screen. This might be because I am using a USB to DVI converter as the video card only has one slot.

Why are you using a usb to dvi converter ? Doesn`t the monitor and the card both have at least a vga or dvi connection ?

You need to use 2 video cables, vga, or dvi.

Post a link to your exact card, from what I can see, that card has at least 2 if not 3 video outputs.

My monitor is not coming out of sleep mode. I have hard booted and reconnected all cables. When clicking on source display comes up for 5 secs stating DVI Active

I disconnected DVI and connected VGA cable. Same happens. Says its active but displays for only 5secs or so. Keyboard inputs don't activate display

Now I have both cables connected and same thing happens stating VGA and DVI Active but display goes blank after 5secs

It's an HP widescreen monitor
What is happening?

Hey I recently ordered some new parts to build a better computer and have ran into some trouble.

The main bit of it being that my monitor isn't displaying anything when I start up the system.

Currently I have an old dell monitor plugged into the video card which is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT( tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4283353&sku=E145-9626 ) , using an adapter to hook up my monitor.

I would have it plugged into the mother board ( tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3573170&sku=A455-2808 ) except that my monitor plug is VGA.

Basically what I was wondering is if there is an adapter out there so that I could plug the monitor into the motherboard, or if there is some way I could get it to display through the video card without changing any software settings?

I'm assuming that you're using a DVI to VGA adapter? That's the one that you would use if there's no VGA input for your gfx card. Don't plug your monitor into the motherboard (assuming

You aren't displaying anything? Even at the post screen? Or once you boot into windows? If it's the former, then your graphics card isn't working/connected correctly. If it's the latter then drivers are your problem.

I assume you at least get a POST? Check to make sure that your graphics card is inserted properly, that the adapters/cables are connected properly (maybe change ports if you have more than one).

Hmm, I looked at your motherboard, and it's SLI capable, meaning that there are two slots for the graphics card to go. Try moving your card over to the other PCI-E slot. Also, sometimes there's a "card" on the motherboard itself that you have to flip over or switch to enable SLI if you're going to try to do that...

Hi all

I've just purchased a workstation with (among other things) the following setup...
PNY Nvidia K620 graphics (2gb)
Iiyama ProLite B2888UHSU monitor
Windows 10 Home
16gb RAM
2tb Hd
128gb SSD

I've installed / updated the driver for the graphics card to the latest version, and I'm using a displayport cable (Assuming it's 1.2, as it came with the monitor)

The issue that I'm having is I can get a maximum resolution of 'just' 2560 x 1440, when both the graphics card and the monitor are capable of 3840 x 2160

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?
